August 6, 2026 I visited Cocina Azteca in Placentia for the first time. I ordered, to dine in, a carne asada burrito which is beef marinated in citrus juice and spices, charred over a hot grill and a medium drink. The burrito actually consisted of, 95%, cooked rice and pico de gallo which is chopped onion, tomato and cilantro and only a memory of beef, or carne asada. This burrito was realistically worth about $3.00 however I was charged $11.19. The medium drink was $4.79. Obviously a high profit item. Also the drink machine could not dispense ice and my plastic cup had to be manually filled at another location. Also the machine was not immediately working and had to be "turned on" in order to dispense the drink. This is a sign of a restaurant NOT prepared to serve the public! I would suggest that anyone considering Mexican food to please consider other restaurants as this one is not a good choice. read more

Came back to this place after my first visit a few months back. Which was a really good experience. We decided to try their buffet and boy were we not disappointed! We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman, and were directed to the buffet, asked if we wanted handmade corn tortillas, which were bomb!!! And the food, from the pozole, birria, chicken mole, spicy riblets, rice and beans were just GOOD!!! The food is edible but not 4.5 star rating, I have no idea what kind of money they paid to make it happen, and I don't want to know. What I do know is that the food would be more enjoyable had the service not been so disturbingly cold and unwelcoming. I came back a handful of times in hopes of breaking the ice, if you will, receiving nothing but a "Cara dura" as they say in Spanish. Which translates to bold-faced and in my opinion, because food and service go hand in hand, I will never go back. Please pay a little extra to hire friendlier staff. When I make Mexican food at home, I always walk here to grab beans, rice and handmade tortillas. When I come home from work sometimes I grab bean, rice and cheese burrito. It's so simple, yet so cravable and satisfying. Their chips here are always fresh, the salsa is always tasty and fresh....I've had almost everything on the menu and you can't go wrong with anything! The only thing we haven't had is the buffet but we are going to try it soon! There are a few other Mexican restaurants within walking distance, and we've tried one....we were not enamored like we are when we come here. The food was OK . We ordered chicken tacos and what we got was a plate with three mini tacos a couple of tablespoons os rice and the same for their beans. The restaurant was completely empty. They had also ran out of the drink we wanted; and to boot someone backed into our truck. Since we were seating near a window we went to check the damage and the driver of that vehicle ran away. The restaurant has cameras but the owner only gave us film, but they only gave us a portion that excluded the impact. It obvious they are protecting the person that hit our truck. (Disclaimer: I do understand that orders may be messed up through third party delivery services and the food may not meet standards). Bacon breakfast burrito: So good with hash browns + bacon + eggs + beans + cheese -- the only negative was that it was a bit on the greasy side. Otherwise one of the best breakfast burritos I've had and might be my new go to place for them. Carnitas burrito: Much like the breakfast burrito, this burrito was sooo good! Sour beans, diluted agua de Jamaica. I tried this restaurant about 4.5 years ago, went today with my daughter excited to have some good food. She ordered menudo and I ordered machaca and agua de jamaica. The jamaica was diluted with so much water tasted like water with sugar only, I told the lady and she suggested to change it for orchata. The machaca had some kind cook beef nothing like the kind use for machaca but I eat it anyway. Problem was the beans, they were SOUR, I told the lady and she did nothing about it. ‍ I understand things happened and maybe the cook didn't taste the food at the beginning of the shift, Apologies go along way too sad they don't care for what they're serving to the customers and when someone points something out it should be taken under consideration, as I was leaving I saw people leaving the beans on their plates as well, you would thing after being told they would stop selling them. Also, I did have to ask them to bring more food out as they weren't on top of it. We love this place! Our 1st visit was PRE-COVID and the Mexican Buffet was delicious and so much variety! For under $20 you could get homemade tasting food (all you can eat), drink, chip and salsa bar. The staff is always friendly and gives you a feel of "family" when your meal is served. During the Pandemic we continue to support this small business by ordering to-go, still great food at a great value and the staff took extra precautions to make sure we were all safe With the OC opening up, we decided to visit for dine in... it was exactly as we remembered it!... with restrictions and modifications of course. The restaurant is clean and the food is of great quality. During these times of uncertainties, supporting small businesses is essential for the survival of these families.
