Haven't been to Davio's in years - great food, perfect service - a wonderful experience.

A very nice weekend dinner for myself and wife. We were staying nearby - Boston Park Plaza and concierge recommended, when we learned that we did not have reservations for places of interest. We have dined at other Davio's in Braintree and Patriot Place. This place was very nicely decorated - rich colors, spacious, not bumping into each other's chairs so tables spaced apart. We arrived right on time and were seated with a nice table looking out onto the street. Service was very good and the menu was nice. We started with chicken livers in a port reduction. Thought this was different from our usual calamari dish. Was okay - the livers were dredged in some flour, cooked, so the segments were not really recognizable. Flavor was good, but not distinctive enough, didn't really see many toasted pine nuts as mentioned in the menu. My wife had a 8 oz strip steak medium rare - very nice piece, cooked according to taste. Very tender. I had an Atlantic Salmon broiled on a bed of farro, mushrooms, spinach with a small lump of jumbo crab meat on top of the salmon. Very nicely done, tasted great - wife loved the crab meat. We split an order of organic mushrooms in balsamic and crispy onion rings. Both were excellent and good to accompany our main dishes. We were too full for dessert, but had coffee to close out the meal. By the time we finished dinner, the bar was full, the waiting area had a line and the place was fully seated. Great ambiance and great service. Everyone besides me ordered the pasta and everyone left happy and full. I got the scallops with a side of mushrooms, and Brussels sprouts. The latter of which was a little too oily for me. We ordered the molten cake for dessert with a side of fruit for me and the fruit was very fresh. The only things that were a little annoying were how long it took us to get our food order placed and the fact that everything was an up sell - would you like still or sparking (no tap mentioned)? Went this evening to meet a childhood friend I have not seen in 40 years. Had a wonderful evening. The staff, (hostesses in particular) are extremely friendly, cordial, and inviting. They remembered my first name from my reservation an hour after I'd been there. Doesn't end at that, the food was exceptional. Flank steak is mouth watering. Tender, perfectly cooked. Bolognese was loved by my Italian guest. Overall great experience! I look forward to returning. read more

Davio's was packed and had no tables available, so a friend and I scored the last 2 seats at the bar at around 8:30 on a Wednesday. I did notice that there were actually plenty of tables open, but they were not seating anyone. We started out with Davio's delicious, unmatched bread basket, and a half dozen oysters, which were good. We then moved onto a TORRE DI PESCE and we were brought out a large dish including Oysters Rockefeller; Mussels Pernod; Crispy Calamari; Crispy Scallops; Shrimp, Spicy San Marzano Tomatoes; Lobster, Tarragon Butter. The Shrimp with Spicy San Marzano Tomatoes was amazing, best part of this dish! I wish they would make a dish with just the shrimp, and better yet, they were huge! The Mussels Pernod were decent, and I loved the Crispy Scallops, although my friend didn't feel the same. I was not personally a fan of the Oysters Rockefeller. The lobster was great. The platter got a 7/10. For dinner, we split a 22 oz. 55 Day Prime Aged Bone-in Cowboy. It was cooked medium rare to perfection, I fully enjoyed it. For dessert, I ordered the cannoli with fruit, and although the cannolis were small, the fruit was fresh and delicious. I would have loved one or two more cannolis since they were very light. The ambiance was beautiful, looking over the seaport. The bar was especially busy, but most of the staff were very attentive and welcoming. I believe Rafael, Adelaide, and Aaron helped us. Davio's is probably one of the most formal restaurants I've been too since the primary covid lockdown in March 2020. I also visited with my extended family. I wouldn't say this is the most kid friendly restaurant. To quote the hostess, "ya I think we have a high chair around." We had 4 adults, a few 10-16 year olds and a toddler. It took a bit longer to get greeted and to order drinks than I would have liked but once it all got going service and course timing was wonderful. Appetizers came out in like 6 minutes then there was a good 15-20 minutes after our apps were cleaned for us to enjoy family and wine time. The food here is quite good though. Perfectly inline with restaurants of this caliber but nothing really unique. My lobster was decent but the tail was fairly over cooked and took some strength to get the meat out of the tail. Formal, pricey, tasty, not mind blowing. read more

Had a city hall wedding ceremony with my wife: It was just us and our daughter. Came here for dinner that night and it's a lifetime memory. They took care of us, even though we were trying to play it down, they made us feel special. Food is something we are still talking about today and it was 5 months ago. Service was amazing, it was real people that took care of us, made us feel special. The setting was appropriate, the place is not a instagram hangout. Overall a premium experience and we were very well taken care of. My old boss Herb Chambers was right about this place. read more

We made reservations and waited far longer than expected. When we were finally sat it was a horrible table with a large pole between my husband and myself. There were empty tables so I am unclear why this would have been the choice. That said our waitress was good. The food was good my husband particularly enjoyed the blue cheese potato. Thankfully there are other choices for fine dining so we will likely not return. read more

This was my first time dining at Davio's. We came for restaurant week so we ordered 3 courses for a set price. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I would come back again. I thought both the food and service were good and I enjoyed the atmosphere. My only cons were that it took ~40 minutes to get a drink and the dinning room was pretty loud, making it hard to hear. Now onto the food - let's start with the popovers. So fun! I had no idea they did these instead of bread and they were AMAZING! I could go back just for the popovers. Then for our restaurant week selections, the appetizers (an iceberg salad and a lentil soup) were both ok, but I would not order again (however, I did dip the popovers in the soup and that was yummy!). The main courses we had (the chicken with risotto, and the saffron pasta with shrimp) were both delightful and I would highly recommend. We finished off with blueberry crumble and strawberry shortcake. Both were great! read more

From start to finish it was 1st class. Key was our waiter and did a fantastic job. Great evening to celebrate our anniversary dinner! Steak was perfectly cooked and the sides were spot on. I visited Davio's for my birthday (noted in my reservation) and sat at a booth by the bar. The food was excellent, and the service was fine--until the end of the meal. Once we had finished eating, the server cleared our plates but didn't ask if we wanted additional drinks or dessert. Instead, she quickly returned, dropped off the check without a word, and walked away. This was disappointing, as I had been looking forward to ordering an espresso martini and a birthday dessert. When the server returned, I mentioned that I didn't understand why the check was dropped without asking if we wanted anything else, offering dessert or drinks. She seemed caught off guard that I called her out and replied dismissively, "Um, okkk." I explained again that I was surprised we weren't given the option to order dessert, especially since it was noted in the reservation. Her tone and attitude were rude, unprofessional, which made the situation uncomfortable. She eventually brought over the dessert cart but with the same inappropriate demeanor, which made us hesitant to order. At that point, the damage was done and I decided we'd just settle the check instead, this seem to annoy her. I explained to her that I wasn't trying to upset her but simply didn't understand the service approach. She seemed visibly upset and left, but later returned with the check, an apology, and a complimentary dessert, explaining that she had been feeling overwhelmed. I appreciated the apology and gesture, but by then, the experience was soured. It's also not the customer's problem if the server is overwhelmed, blah blah blah - sort it out and fix your attitude. As someone who has worked in fine dining, I know that great food can only do so much--exceptional service is essential. I chose Davio's to celebrate my birthday, but instead, I felt rushed and unwelcome. While I understand that everyone can have an off day, fine dining comes with high expectations. Servers must maintain professionalism and emotional intelligence, as the service can make or break the experience. It doesn't end there....i received an email from Davio's asking for feedback about my experience. I did. The manager emailed me back apologizing and asking if we could set up a call to talk about my experience and an opportunity to "make things right". While I'm not looking for anything I think when you go to a fine dining establishment where they fail to deliver, feedback is essential. I agreed and shared my availability. It's been almost 3 week and never heard back. Clearly the issue stems from the top. I'm a local and have absolutely no plans of ever going back. I recommend you take your money to another stake house that fully meets the expectations of fine dining. Unfortunately, while the food is good, they're killing the whole concept with the terrible service. read more

So I'll let you know that this review is strictly based off of the bar and popovers. On our first trip to Boston, Davio's was walking distance to our hotel. We popped over for a drinks. As for my main, I had the Penne with Applewood Smoked Chicken -- delicious!!! Dessert items are displayed on a cart and you can order after seeing the different options -- cool element for ambience/service. Only downside of the service was being seated in a section right next to a corporate happy hour/bar. It was loud and crowded with people standing over our table -- felt like we could've been seated elsewhere since we were the only table seated in this section. read more

Went to the Back Bay location for lunch. Food was decent, but below average service. The host told us they had a children's menu , but never brought it over. Cesar salad , but no offer to add pepper. They bring a check without details. It wasn't that busy , so we didn't understand the lack in service. Since posting this review, the manager contacted me to discuss my experience and apologize. I can't say I was in love with my cocktail choices but all the food options were absolutely delicious. It has been awhile since I have paid this much money for a meal but actually felt it was worth it. Dang. Disappointed. We really wanted to find a nice Italian spot outside of the North End, somewhere walkable for us, but alas, it was not to be. The place was crowded, decent vibe, kinda fancy crowd, but the service was...odd. Lots of staff, different people for water, taking orders, various people bringing dishes- it all seemed rushed and not cohesive. The server himself gave off an attitude like we were bothering him or not ordering food to his liking. We felt judged asking for boxes for leftovers. My husband didn't get a steak knife with his steak. It was weird. Food-wise? Meh. Nothing special. They do bring out tasty popovers fresh from their in-house bakery with a nice compound butter. Their lobster bisque? Above average- not overly sweet like most places. But for an ITALIAN STEAKHOUSE- the pastas and the steak were all forgettable. We had the Fusilli with Grilled Prawns, spaghetti with meatballs on the side, a 6 oz filet, their special butternut squash soup - across the board, flavors seemed off (too sweet, too sour, too...confusing?). The "highlights" were the prawns themselves and the asparagus that came with the steak. We shared a baked Alaska (we were told came with hazelnut gelato inside), hoping for a tableside flambé (given the type of restaurant)- but it came out of the fridge with plain chocolate ice cream inside (some hazelnuts sprinkled around the plate). We have so much good Italian food here in Boston- I don't see why we'd come back to Davio's. read more

A Disappointing Visit This was my second visit to Davio's this week. I loved the 20-ounce bone-in cowboy steak and wanted to enjoy it again. On this second visit I clearly conveyed to the waitress my order of a bone-in steak. As you might guess, I got a delicious steak but without the bone. As much as I was enjoying it, I really wanted the bone and told a different server that this was not what I ordered. He was very apologetic and offered to get me the right steak. The Manager came over to make sure everything was fine. I assured him that it was. But then the original waitress returned to my table to explain to me how I had made the wrong order, that it was all my fault. She said that I had ordered a 16-ounce ribeye without the bone. I just responded with the truth, that I had absolutely asked for the bone-in. She was not happy with my response and left with a poor attitude. The manager came over several times to see how I was doing. While I had been waiting he even offered to bring me something, which I declined. After I got the steak he came back and asked how I enjoyed the new steak, as did the replacement waiter. The original waitress brought over pepper, but did not ask anything about the second steak. Needless to say the server ruined what could have been an outstanding steak dinner experience. I decided not to complain to the manager about the waitress. I wanted to see how they would handle the check. As it turned out, they charged me full price, adding insult to injury. Hence the 3 stars for what could have been 5. The ambiance of Davio's is upscale, but a little dark to my liking. All the servers, except my waitress today, have been outstanding. I was staying at the Boston Park Plaza across the street and the concierge recommended Davio's as a great steak restaurant. This experience just goes to show how important a server's attitude is, especially when something goes awry. The mix-up on steak was totally understandable. Trying to blame me for the error left a bad taste in my mouth. The original server never returned to my table, as another server took over and did a great job. No adjustment on the check was the topper :( read more

So this was a bit of an up-and-down experience. We were with a group of 10 this past weekend having actually eaten at the Seaport location on Friday night as well for another birthday. I was very clear when we arrived that we needed to be paid out in 2 hours, and I was assured that was no problem. And it might have happened, although it would've been a bit tight except for the fact that when our entrées arrived, my strip steak was clearly overcooked. I have never sent an entrée back at a restaurant, and I only did it because there was no doubt that at least half my steak was cooked medium well and the other was probably more medium versus medium rare as ordered, and at $75 for a steak at a professional steakhouse , it' seems to me like that should be right especially if I know I can actually do that at home myself without going to an expensive restaurant. The waitress of course said no problem we'll have it right back and then it took over 30 minutes for the steak to show back up. At that point, the entire rest of the table had finished their dinner. We all know it only takes a few minutes under a restaurant grade salamander to cook a steak to perfection. So this seemed kind of crappy to me The manager, when I mentioned that it was taking a long time told me that he had looked the steak and it was medium rare and that I was WRONG. Guess what: Wrong answer. I seem to believe that the customer is always right, and in this case I actually was and others at the table who looked at my steak all agreed with me. So it wouldn't of bothered me much except the guy had the nerve to tell me I was wrong when I know I'm right because I actually know how to cook a steak and I'd be happy to post pictures here of the ones I cook at home and you'll see what medium rare is. It's called pink in the center not Brown. They did redeem themselves, however by doing a fantastic dessert set up for my wife which arrived 15 minutes after we had told them we needed to be out of the restaurant for another reservation. So we wolfed everything down standing up with spoons and were able to leave having paid the check a few minutes earlier. Overall. A nice dinner but a mixed dining experience. read more

I've been to Davio's a few times now (primarily for restaurant week) and my experiences had been great. Their customer service is consistently great...and Davio's really trained their staff to treat their customers what they deserve...that they are valuable! Because the only few times I had been to Davio's were during restaurant week, I could only speak of some dishes that they offered and that...really...their dishes that were offered as part of the restaurant week meals could be hits or misses. My first time dining there, the mousse dessert was pretty comical...wasn't anything I would want to order or eat again. The second time I went, however, and picked the cheesecake was pretty legit! Overall, if you are looking for a nice ambiance, great service...a nice dimly lit dinner for your date or for a group of close colleagues or family members to celebrate special occasions, consider Davio's! Customer service is top notch. The restaurant week's menu may be ok, but I think their main menu offers much more and will really live up to your high standards/expectations of food! read more

What a lovely night with some fellow Yelp Elites and everyone's favorite plus one, Gary, whilst dining at Davio's for Dine Out Boston: Summer 2019! I organized the event with original designs on Marliave or Fogo De Chao as our dining destination, but when I realized that the event was growing and needed to accommodate a larger group of hungry Yelpers, I swapped the venue to Davio's, which has been a Dine Out Boston favorite of mine for quite some time. The Summer 2019 edition was no exception! Davio's is a "Northern Italian Steakhouse", so they cast a pretty wide net of menu items. On the main dinner menu, there's everything from seafood to housemade pastas, and of course, steaks. However, we were ballin' on a budget, and here for Dine Out, so let's just chat about that instead! There were two choices for appetizers, three for entrees, and two for desserts, all for the very fair price of $38. Compared to the prices on an average non-Dine Out visit, this is downright cheap. I was worried that the portion sizes would reflect the lower price, but everything was well sized and quite filling, especially the entree. I was impressed and pleasantly surprised! We all started out with the same appetizer, a duo of arancini rice balls stuffed with fresh crabmeat and fried to a golden brown. They were served alongside a ramekin of citrus aioli, which provided a nice contrast to the crispy goodness of the rice ball. There was also an ample amount of crabmeat, which was flavorful and filling. Along with some warm popovers, this provided an excellent start to our meal. The other option was a bruschetta with olive tapenade and heirloom tomatoes. I can't stand olives, so I made like Ariana Grande and said "thank u, next" to that one! The entree was a strong point of the meal for me, even though I broke the mold of everyone else's Swordfish Spiedini order and got the Scallop Spaghetti, which was served in an olive oil based sauce with chopped tomatoes and smoky gunciale, bacon's yummier Italian cousin. The pasta is homemade, and you can definitely tell in every perfect, al dente bite. The scallops were just okay, but I am not a huge scallop fan - I was more in it for the carbs. No worries, my boyfriend was thrilled to supplement his swordfish with my castoffs. No one in our party got the third option, a crispy chicken with lemon butter sauce, but if the pasta wasn't made in house, I had my eye on that one, too. Finally, the dessert course arrived, and this was also super great. The Amaretto Cheesecake was my selection, and it came beautifully plated with fresh whipped cream and raspberry sauce. The cake wasn't too heavy or cloying, and the amaretto lent a light almond flavor to the dessert that cut through the richness of the creamy cheese layer. I also ordered a side of homemade strawberry ice cream a la carte after I was convinced by our server to do so. It was one scoop, but it was LIFE CHANGING. Seriously, if you go here, you need to get the ice cream. Trust me. Dine Out Boston Summer 2019 was a success, overall. The courses were yummy, and the company was excellent. Special thanks to Joop, David, and Mark for making their way to Downtown Boston on a Friday evening to hang out and kick off Labor Day Weekend in style! We had a great time, not only for the food, but also for the fun conversation and wonderful camaraderie. If we could, we'd give this visit 3.75. We've been here many times but the service is slipping. Our server was great but clearly inexperienced, but the water guy was mostly MIA and almost agitated when he was there. But, the food was excellent, as usual. I've heard of Davio's before, but I never really knew what it was. My goodness was this place classy! Made it out here on the last day of restaurant week, and was able to try some great food at reasonable prices (pretty expensive otherwise). From the Prix-Fixe style restaurant week menu, I opted for the Arancini, Swordfish, and Chocolate Espresso Cake. Popovers served while we waited we're great. Such a wonderful idea to have popovers instead of just bread. Just s very nice and interesting touch. I think they were asiago popovers, but please do not quote me on this. The Arancini were amaze-balls (pun SO intended). They were cooked to absolute perfection, with just the right amount of crust on the outside, and softness on the inside. The size they came with was divine, good enough to finish even when the Arancini were already gone. The swordfish was good, however, the execution didn't really hit the spot for me. I felt that the fish was cooked and generally seasoned well, and the other garnishes and such were also well thought out. My critiques are this: First, I found it was a little too citrusy for my taste me. Second, there is something to be said for plating. The presentation was a bit messy, and I found that having everything sort of jumbled in made it more difficult to taste a distinct flavor from each component. Then there was dessert. This cake/ice cream hybrid was divine! I loved it that the consistency wasn't that of birthday cake or basic ice cream, but somewhere right in the middle. The sweetness was on point, and the layers were well thought out. Considering how fancy Davio's generally is, the portion for the price we're in line with what I expected. I didn't leave stuffed, but not at all hungry. The service was nice, and while it wasn't the fastest I've seen, it wasn't slow by any means. read more

Came to Boston for a show at the Emerson Colonial theater and walked 7 min to Davio's for dinner after the show. We had 4 tween/teenagers (11-15 yo) and 4 adults. They accommodated our party of 8 and provided excellent service. Warm popovers were a hit with everyone and the best I've had in New England. Everyone enjoyed their dishes- rigatoni with sausage, shrimp tagliatelle, tortellini, scallops with risotto. For dessert we had the panna cotta, cannoli, and a chocolate cake. Expensive but great place for a family to enjoy dinner on a special occasion. All your pickiest eaters and discriminating foodies will find something to enjoy. read more

Slow service. Had to wait 10 minutes before they even gave us water, and we had to ask just to get the water. Nothing came out hot, probably because the service was so slow. Overpriced for the quality of the food, even if it came out hot, it just was not good. Will not be going back. read more

Kicked off Mar 2019's Dine Out at Davio's with fellow Yelpers! I liked the way the inside, everything was beautiful and our waitress Paige was super helpful and knowledgeable about food in general. App - Crab Meat, Lemon Arancini: 3 Small balls of crab meat mixed perfectly with lemon (I like the faint taste of it) Entree - Free Range Chicken: I couldn't figure out what it was, but I loved whatever sauce they glazed the chicken with. It had a citrusy taste, which anything in that realm, I like. The only part I didn't like was the tomato. Dessert - Flourless Chocolate Torte, Vanilla Ice Cream: Wasn't my first pick, but based on everyone's dislike of the raspberry mousse, I got lucky! To me, this is a brownie with vanilla ice cream with a side of raspberry sauce. Overall, I liked the presentation of the meal, staff and location. but I would just stick to the main menu. read more

We have been to Davio's in Boston and the one near the stadium as well. This one is the worst in terms of the big three: ambiance, service and food. But the worst is still three stars - making it an above average experience. The decor is nice, white tablecloths, good cutlery and great lighting plus the popovers are no doubt. I have never been to this location and it being a vibrant "scene" so if you want a quiet dinner this will work. The night we were there are server was a disappointment, not really promoting the restaurant or being excited or promoting anything - fortunately the group of 6 are all foodies and know our way around the menu, cocktails and wine bottles- as the server was just that a server- not a good representation of the establishment and offerings- which actually was awkward. read more

Quality menu with many options. Good wine list as well. Food was not bad but not spectacular. Ambiance also OK but special - demerits for putting my family in back corner staring at wall when much nicer tables were open. I noticed two other families back there with us in the corner - looked intentional. Service was otherwise very good. read more
