I've been to Davio's two times now and had a great experience both times. The service has been friendly and helpful on both visits. The food is consistently very good. I ordered steak on both occasions and was prepared the way I requested both times. There are a lot of good side dishes, we ordered at least 6 sides for the table to share. We also had a vegan friend join us for dinner and she had no problem finding an assortment of sides, main dishes and desserts she could choose from. I'm looking forward to eating here again next time I'm in Boston. read more

I had high hopes for this place; while it was overall a pleasant experience, it wasnt worth what we paid. My party of 5 came for a graduation dinner, and we were seated in a nicer secluded area with only a few tables. For food we ordered: 2 Filet mignon tartare (to share) Crab spaghetti Veal tenderloin Braised short ribs, side of mashed potatoes Free range roasted chicken Georges bank sea scallops, side of horseradish mashed potatoes Lemon cake, chocolate cake We all felt the food was decent, but not great. Scallops were undersalted, some of the spaghetti were crunchy from undercooking, there was so much horseradish in the mash that your nose would sting with some of the bites. We have been to Davio's in Boston and the one near the stadium as well. This one is the worst in terms of the big three: ambiance, service and food. But the worst is still three stars - making it an above average experience. The decor is nice, white tablecloths, good cutlery and great lighting plus the popovers are no doubt. I have never been to this location and it being a vibrant "scene" so if you want a quiet dinner this will work. The night we were there are server was a disappointment, not really promoting the restaurant or being excited or promoting anything - fortunately the group of 6 are all foodies and know our way around the menu, cocktails and wine bottles- as the server was just that a server- not a good representation of the establishment and offerings- which actually was awkward. read more

I would say this is a 3.5 star place. I love the atmosphere. It's classy without being pretentious and fun at the same time. They are a children friendly place too. They have a kids menu and provide crayons to occupy your children as well. But the food I would say is only mediocre. I don't know if it was just the night we went or a usual thing for the chef, but he was definitely heavy on the salt for the dishes. We ordered the a couple of their signature dishes the lobster bisque and lobster risotto and they were both salty. They were nice to split the dishes for us. The portions were pretty good. It was still a good size even when the dishes were split. They had chunks of lobster in the bisque, which was a nice touch. However I felt like if they had bigger chunks or even a whole lobster tail in the risotto, it would like to the dish better. We did order the broccolini dish as well. It was not as salty as the lobster dishes, but still a bit more than I would've liked. It was also pretty tough. It was hard to chew and definitely hard to cut with the knife provided. I would come back mainly for the atmosphere and good portions. Hopefully it was just an off day. I may want to try some of the other dishes. read more

One of our favorite restaurants, been going there for many years since they were on Newberry St. Very bad evening. Asked for a specific table to be relocated to and they would not accommodate. So we ended up at a highly trafficked table. Waiter could care less about our presence. Finally got wine ordered. Did not see waiter again. Food was good , the service, not special which is what this restaurant is all about , waiter did not return to table , someone else got an additional glass of wine delivered. Finally someone showed up with the bill, did not ask if we were I interested in dessert, we paid bill quite unhappily and quickly left. We picked this place to go for my husband's 50th birthday and the food was absolutely amazing I would recommend it highly to anybody who is looking for delicious meal. the staff was amazing - we were sat at our table & within in five minutes four people were at our table already. I ordered the strip steak medium rare melted in your mouth he had the ribeye which was just totally amazing and then came the desserts the raspberry cobbler was hot with raspberry ice cream totally delicious and he had panna cotta for dessert and it was delicious. highly recommend this place along with our waiter was amazing and the whole night was just a great choice. read more

I have been coming to Davio's since Flash's was across the street and had an after hours dance club upstairs there. Back when Flemings was around corner. Now If I sit at bar and notice bill still present from previous customer one would assume it has not been cleaned yet so when I ask the barback to wipe it down , dumbfounded that you tell me with a look 'I just wiped it down" I get it staff shortages ?? but sure twice is nice so do it. Also the menu has some miles on it as it was wet before dry now its paper after all ... Finally now I am approached by bartender ,would you like a drink ?? Well how about a menu as I am not at McDonalds although this place has become similar to a Cheesecake Factory in its service !!! Waiter Carmelo ( sorry if I spelt it incorrectly) was simply phenomenal professional, very interactive, timely and attentive. We started with Calamari, the popovers are to die for. Hubby had the Chilean sea bass it was cooked perfectly and tasted so fresh. Son had 6oz Filet mignon rare, with goat cheese balls and was very pleased. I chose the Lemon Fettuccini , w red pepper & shrimp, it was utterly amazing, shrimp was slightly over cooked, however it was so darn good, I truly didn't care. Birthday desert was baked Alaska, with a passion fruit & raspberry sauce, delightful, light and amazing. I highly recommend these dishes. My Lemon fettuccini was truly epic! My mouth is watering just writing this review... this place was AMAZING! The restaurant was gorgeous and within walking distance of nightlife (club/bars & theaters). We loved the set up of the place, and the waitstaff was friendly and helpful! When I ordered the gluten free pasta, our waitress immediately went to get me a side of gluten free bread! My smoked chicken dish was so flavorful and the chicken paired perfectly with the sun dried tomatoes. My boyfriend tried it and said he couldn't even tell the pasta was gluten free! I can't say enough good about Davio's restaurant. We sat at the "kitchen/bar" where we could watch all the impressive activity going on. The food was absolutely delicious and the ambiance great. Not to forget the yummy pop-overs. Excellent dining experience from top to bottom. My family of three came for Thanksgiving dinner and when I first entered, it did seem very crowded. In the main room, every table was filled. When I asked the hostess if the restaurant was at half capacity, she really didn't know how to answer. She probably should have told us that they took tables out to comply. I asked if we could be seated as far away from the main room which was very loud and I wasn't entirely comfortable. We were brought to a smaller room and we were put in a corner. I definitely felt more comfortable. Let me start with the popovers. They were perfect! Light and airy, buttery and maybe even a touch of cheese. They were a great way to start our meal. We ordered the Arugula salad with Lemon Olive Oil, Braised Short Rib, Ribeye Steak, and Tagliatelle Bolognese. We also ordered sides of Horseradish Mashed Potatoes, Shaved Brussels Sprouts and Onion rings. Everyone was very happy with their entrees. My Tagliatelle was perfect. The pasta was cooked well and the sauce was well seasoned and balanced. It would really be hard for me to order anything else when I'm back at Davio's. My daughter loved her short rib dish which she said was melt in your mouth the way braised short rib should be and not too salty. Again, perfectly seasoned. And the ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare. Strangely the star of the sides was the onion rings! Instead of the thick onion rings you may be used to, these were thin and lightly battered. They were salty but not too salty. They were super thin, crispy and sooooo good. The only side we were disappointed with was the horseradish mashed potatoes. They needed more horseradish, butter and cream/milk. The horseradish was very subtle and the potatoes were dry. It was the only dish that we did not exclaim, "Mmmm, that is so delicious!" I did not take a star away because everything else was so great. The service was fantastic! We felt very welcomed by our first server and I do like the photo of each staff member touch. So smart during this crazy age of the global pandemic. He was friendly and attentive. Our waiter was great too! My apologies for not getting their names. We didn't feel rushed which was nice. I thought I read somewhere that there was a 90 minute limit. We were there longer with dessert and everything. Speaking of dessert, we had the Baked Alaska which was made with Cherry Garcia icecream and was excellent. We also got the chocolate lava cake. My only complaint is that I wish the desserts were bigger. :). The complimentary coconut macaroons were a nice surprise. I would absolutely come back to Davio's for a special occasion or the next time I'm back in Boston. It was a memorable meal and far and away the best Thanksgiving dinner I've ever had! Side note: I left my umbrella at the restaurant but didn't realize until the day I was leaving Boston. I was so glad the staff let me in to look around. And someone had turned it in! A single out of towner that stopped by after a show. They weren't able (or perhaps willing) to seat me at a table and I was shown the bar instead. Despite being within arms reach of the bartenders, I had the most abysmal service. Was largely ignored the majority of the night. Was flagging down just to tap off my water. The patrons around me getting expensive wine were not ignored, however. I ordered one of their "famous" egg rolls and lobster risotto for dinner. The egg roll tasted like they were reheating the grocery store freezer version they sell -- it was overcooked, tasteless, and clearly not fresh. If it wasn't $15, I wouldn't have finished after my second bite. So much downtime between courses. It wasn't packed, maybe half capacity? And yet I was there for nearly 2 hours. Was asked by a bartender if I wanted complimentary bread that never came. My time was filled with me awkwardly staring down the bartender who always came by with a look of guilt that he knew his tip was suffering the more he bounced by me without a look. Enjoyed watching them happily showcase and replenish wine glasses around me while I spun my empty water glass. The lobster risotto was good. Thats all I have to say about it, really. We went there for Valentines pre fixed menu last night. We have been here many times and expect the quality we pay for and they are famous for. Our waitress was attentive and ambiance was okay. I ordered lobster as my entree and it was missing claw meat and the crabmeat stuffing was imitation. I was shocked at this. It was filled with so much butter instead of lobster. The manager came by and joked it off and never rechecked to see if I received my claws. My husband got the steak and said it was good. I understand a pre fixed menu but there was one minute between courses which did not even give us time to digest. This was a 400 meal that was disappointing. read more

We showed up in the middle of the dinner rush without a reservation and they seated us at the Chef's counter in front of the kitchen. I really enjoyed this having worked in kitchens like this all thru college. Stephen took great care of us and made spot-on recommendations. We had the Philly Spring Rolls and enjoyed them thoroughly. They cheerfully split our salad and risotto dishes. The lobster risotto was sublime and had plenty of lobster meat in it. A manager checked on us after our meal and apologized for not being able to get us a table; I was just grateful to have a place to eat. The ambience of this restaurant is wonderful. I had a great time dining here! Very helpful staff. They all work as a team which really makes the dining experience extra special for its guests. I ordered the Maine lobster and my dad and sister both ordered the short rib. All were delicious. I'm from Napa valley and wasn't a huge fan of their napa wine lists but the bartender recommended a really lovely Italian white wine that I did enjoy! I tried to bring a bottle in from napa valley and didn't know that they don't uncork wines from outside the restaurant. I spoke with another local layer on that said that this was a common occurrence in Boston dining. Which i found a Little unfamiliar because when I dine in Sonoma county they are always happy to uncork wines for me in restaurants. Anyways, the lobster and short rib were delicious! I had the Caesar salad and a side of Brussels sprouts which were also very good. The mashed potatoes felt a bit dry for my liking but everything else was enjoyable. On the eve of Labor Day Weekend, it was a quiet evening at Davio's in Back Bay. I arrived with my best friend for a girl's night out. The staff greeted us with a smile when we arrived and surprisingly we actually ran into a few Yelpers doing a Dine Out dinner. Afterward, we were seated at a table perpendicular to the bar area. I asked one of the waiters for the Restaurant Week menu and was thoroughly pleased with my meal. I ordered one too many popovers and was feeling full before receiving my entree. For an appetizer, I ordered to crab arancini fennel Slaw with citrus aioli, my entree was the swordfish spiedini chermoula, corn, dill, crème fraiche, and for dessert the amaretto cheesecake. I enjoyed a great date night at Davio's for Dine Out Boston. I made reservations for 8:30 Wednesday night and I took advantage of their partnership with lyft where you received about 25% off your ride to and from a participating Dine Out Boston restaurants. I was so excited to see they were taking part in this because I've been meaning to eat at Davio's for years. When my dad retired his company treated him out to lunch at the Davio's in Foxborough. He isn't the one for fancy restaurants and loves finding those delicious authentic hole in the wall type places, but he came home raving about Davio's. Ever since I have wanted to check it out and was very excited to finally do it. I ordered the crab arancini appetizer, the spaghetti scallop entree, and we got both desserts to split. The crab arancini was amazing and I loved the entire plate, I gobbled everything up. The spaghetti scallop dish very good. The pasta was cooked perfectly and I ate the all of it. You always appreciate when fresh pasta is cooked al dente. The only thing is, I wish the dish had been drained a bit as the guanciale made the dish very oily. I feel like it could have been prevented by draining some of it before serving. Thank goodness there is always room for dessert, because I was stuffed. The desserts were incredible and an amazing way to conclude the night. I want to mention the incredible service, our waitress was very attentive and helpful. I truly enjoyed date night and I can't wait to be back. I already know what I'm going to order when I return; the Maine Lobster risotto. read more

Got the oysters Rockefeller as an appetizer. It was OK but I don't recommend. It's basically an oyster covered in a rich topping (which I'm assuming contains cheese and butter). You can't really taste the flesh of the oyster. Plus for service though. They missed my order and gave me a crab cake while I was waiting. The crab cake was pretty good. The steak was standard and tasty with no complaints or super impressionable. The steak came with blue cheese mashed potatoes. The blue cheese in the mashed potatoes honestly was not bad considering I don't like blue cheese, but its smell and taste definitely overpowered the mashed potatoes. The vanilla bean panna cotta for dessert was probably my favorite part of the meal. read more

Terrible , don't waste your time ..I've been here in Boston for 4 days now with my wife and 2 daughters eating breakfast lunch and dinner at different restaurants and this one by far the worst..we got 15 oysters that were ok and the cheese steak spring rolls that were nothing special..I ordered the cowboy rib eye which was warm and marginal at best.. the service was terrible.. everything took years to arrive...the servers at first appear well dressed and professional but it's an illusion..I constantly had to ask a passing water boy to find my waitress...it was frustrating..parking is a disaster.. Went for summer restaurant week which had a special menu. One of the best wine menus in the area. The sashimi appetizer was very fresh. The pasta was amazing. The flourless chocolate cake is one of my favorite desserts in Boston. They wrote a note on it for our anniversary. Great service. read more

I've been to Davio's during lunch and ordered al a carte... Good but nothing to write home about. However, I came here because of restaurant week ( unofficial Yelp event) and I hate to say this but it was quite disappointing. I got the crab arancini which was decent and then I ordered the Artic Char which tasted like a cheap version of a salmon with zero flavor. The presentation was artistic but they were very sparing on the reduction which could have flavored the fish.... Very bland but I suppose it was healthy to be positive. Dessert was uneventfully disappointing.I ate something that looks like what Hello Kitty made.. it was a raspberry mousse cake... I changed it to the chocolate torte which was better but not great.. The food here is very basic and I don't know why they called this in Italian restaurant because there's nothing Italian about it and I cook Italian food. Even though my friends ordered the short rib with rigatoni, the dish was very hardy and they sent it out as braised short ribs with a lot of macaroni instead of rigatoni...too much with pasta. This would have been good with mashed potatoes. Look, I get the appeal of the location and it is convenient for many people who work close by but this dinner was far from a five-star meal. I was very disappointed. At least the server was nice. Sadly, the popovers will probably the best part of the meal. I think I ate two of them waiting for everybody from our Yelp crowd. read more

Let me first say Quan the bartender was amazing! The entire staff I believe is super friendly. I've always like the set up of Davio's, the corner bar area is so beautiful. I ordered Gnnoci with lobster with red sauce. I typically like white but decided against it that night. I think I'll stick to white sauce next time because the sauce in my opinion just wasn't seasoned well enough. It didn't have that kick. Desert was fresh and I was tempted to finish the whole thing even after I was so full. I do like how it was an eggless dessert option, alternative to cream brûlée but still delicious.
