Fail. We have been here many times because of the convenient neighborhood location, and the food is ok, but today was the clincher and why we will not go back. Slow service is one thing, and we were reminded of it while our coffee and tea were bone dry and no body interested in refilling. After about 40 minutes of waitIng, our server came by to say that our tag never got put in and she would do it right away. We were leaving town and had a long drive ahead of us and didn't have another hour to spare, so we just said forget it and left hungry and irritated. I had observed the cook in the kitchen from my seat, in a full embrace make out session with a guy who then came out with a full plate of food and proceeded to eat away while we were waiting. I heard another server tell the couple behind us how patient they were because she forgot all about them. This is not a big place and when we arrived it was not busy and there was simply no excuse for the shitty service. I am a former food server and usually give folks the benefit of the doubt, but it seems like this restaurant has a chronic problem. read more

I have always enjoyed eating at Cornucopia. I usually go to the 5th street location, but I have just moved into the neighborhood of this location on 17th. I had been here before once just for beers. I was in a party for 4, we were here on Cinco De Mayo and had been moving all weekend. We were beat and ready for some good grub and drinks! We sat on the front sidewalk seating. We had an enjoyable meal with decent service. My problem came the next day when I check my bank account. Our party of 4 was put onto one ticket. I didn't see this as problematic at all. My husband and I paid with our debit card and our friends paid in cash. A total bill of $98 for the 4 of us. When I checked our bank account to make sure all our charges came out okay the next day, I noticed cornucopia charged my card for the whole of $98. This was still a pending charge. My husband and myself went into cornucopia to inquire about this. We were told no one was working who could assist us with our problem. This was upsetting and an accusation was made. Once the accusation was made, things got bad. Yes, the thought that the waitress pocketed the money should not have been voiced allowed, but it's was assumed. Why else would the full meal charge be pending in my bank account. I requested the owner be contacted and asked to contact me so that I could have peace of mind knowing the problem was going to be addressed. I was told it was unlikely that anyone would be able to make that call. This answer did not satisfy me. I mean, how hard is it to make a phone call? After "feelings" were expressed by the wait staff and myself, we walked away with no satisfaction or results. I was talked down to and made to feel stupid for questioning the "norm". It is not the "norm" for my bank to hold charges that where not charged to my account. My $45 meal turned into a $98 hold on my bank funds. This is problematic when you haven't planned for that. I did get a phone call a few hours later from the waitress. She told me that the owner was celebrating his wife's birthday and was not going to address any customer issues that day. Whatever, it's understandable, I guess. I got a call from the bookkeeper the next day. At this point I had already contacted my bank, only $45 was processed. But the $98 hold was because of the software/programs that cornucopia uses. Not the bank. I was not offered anything other then attitude and belittlement. I am very displeased, although the food has always been great. If I ever return, I will not EVER be paying by a card again. read more

Had a hard day - from out of town, don't know anyone, no sleep, conference talk at the U of O, feeling like a traveling salesman in my motel room. So I found this little place on yelp, took a chance, was perfect: Philly cheesesteak night, with fries and a cold pint of the house pale ale, all for 10 bucks. Usually I am a huge fan of Cornucopia! I've been living in Eugene for 20 years and have enjoyed dining each time I have come - I've always known their food is fairly pricy for what you get but the quality is generally really good & the food is usually fresh. However tonight, I attempted to try something new on the menu- the French onion soup & salad dinner entree. Wow. I wish I would have taken a photo of the actual size of the meal, because it was a total letdown. $15.20 for a smaller than average bowl of French onion soup and a small bowl of chopped iceberg lettuce with one tomato, four croutons, and a small ramekin of dressing. I was not told when I ordered that the French Onion soup was extra (Soup & Salad is around $11-12 normally I think- still pricy). I can't imagine what the markup was on the cost of the meal, but it must have been huge. Left hungry. my suggestion? Make sure you ask your server when you order if your substitutions cost extra. read more

I used to eat brunch or lunch here quite often. After a brief break, I returned and was dismayed to see the large increase in the lunch menu prices. $16 - $20 for a burger? So I ordered the least expensive sandwich Grownup Grilled Cheese. It used to be on thick cut bread. No more! It was on thin slices; not worth the cost. Then someday, if you're patient, you'll even get your food, but not before you can hear your waiter talk sh*t about you to the cook. My favorite part of our lunch was watching the people next to us get seated after us, but order and receive their food before our order was even taken! The food is mediocre. I struggled with how to review this place because I have never successfully eaten at this location. have on three separate occasions attempted to dine here. Each time my experience has been the same: We walk in to a full restaurant and are told it will be about 15 minutes to get a table. Then we look at the tables and notice that most patrons have no drinks other than empty water glasses, still have menus, and are looking irritated. Then you look and see there are perhaps 2 servers running willy-nilly around the restaurant. The conclusion I have reached each time is that there are too few servers and too many tables, and as far as I'm concerned getting seated in 15 minutes is fine but waiting 30 to get a drink/order is unacceptable. Each time the risk hasn't been worth it and we have walked out after waiting 5-10 minutes. I'm actually surprised to see no other reviewers mention this, but maybe others like me struggled with whether to review or not and decided they wouldn't. read more

This is one of those very rare places to get a great burger. The handmade patty, fried is my preference always. I've always had good friendly service. The service is Cornucopia's only issue - but it's a BIG one. I have been to this restaurant multiple times over the last A Eugenian born and raised, I first tried out the restaurant with my parents. Immediately realizing we had chosen a restaurant near campus during UO graduation, we expected a bit of a wait. You know, a 20 to 30 minute wait to be seated, and a little longer than average to get our food? Nope. 6:00 - We were seated timely and given menus. 6:15 - our waiter shows up with water. We order immediately as we are starving at this point 6:45 - empty waters, haven't seen our waiter since the first visit 7:15 - after not hearing or seeing our waiter for an hour I got up and began searching for him around the restaurant. Kind of like hide and go seek but I was way more hungry. I eventually found him and he apologized saying our food would be out shortly. 7:35 - My parents want to leave, I convince them leaving would take us even longer to get a meal than staying. 7:45 - We ask for a manager and are told they had just hired a new manager and he was too busy to come out. We explained to another waiter how unhappy we were and he assured us he would make it right. 8:10 - We receive half cold burgers. 8:25 - We get our bill? Yup. Still had a bill. What did they take off? The price of one beer. One. Beer. A few years later I decided to give them a try again. My anger had burned off and this time it wasn't graduation at UO. We had a late dinner - about 9:00. This time we made it out in about an hour and a half. Service still sucked, and we left full and unhappy. I would love for this restaurant to make some managerial changes and provide the same quality service as their burgers. Such a shame to see good food spoiled by bad service. Cornucopia is one my favorite places to eat in town. Yes, great burgers, philly's, and good beer selection, but everyone already knows that. Seemingly little known fact about Cornucopia: Their Breakfast is one of the best in town. From their basic with amazing bacon option all the way to their eggs-benedict, there isn't a wrong choice for you. Not to mention, the awesome lady who I constantly see there in the mornings is one of the friendliest and hard-working servers I have ever seen. Sure, when it get's really busy the food might take a little longer than I would like, and sometimes they can be understaffed, but I also don't expect to see my food in under 20 minutes with a full house. These people work really hard and the cooks do a great job of putting out delicious food. I highly recommend Cornucopia for any meal, but especially their breakfast. read more

After having a delicious meal and awesome service at the 5th street location, we decided to try the 17th location. I have honestly never been so disappointed and let down by a restaurant. After waiting over an hour for our food with no acknowledgement, other than they had lots of deliverys when I asked how much longer ( which suggests they cook that food first) it was luke warm and incorrect! My sons chicken tenders were the darkest brown, and by trying the fries and tots you could tell the oil was WAY over due for a changing. The rice bowl had maybe a tablespoon of rice, and we were told that's normal. Which was a lie, because we've had it before. There was no empathy from our server who lacked customer service skills and personality. Ended up spending 65 dollars to leave full plates and empty stomachs! Please beware before choosing this location. Would hate for anyone else to have the experience we had. Gave them one star for the great drink special. read more

Typical Oregon service: mediocre to bad. I ordered grilled chicken and it came with rice and sauteed veggies and a salad. Nothing wrong with it all, but not very exciting. The rice tasted like rice-a-roni, it was very clearly a homemade version of it, however, it was still roni-ish. Vinaigrette salad dressing was way too heavy on the vinegar, very little oil. With all the rave reviews I've heard from my friends, I'll give them another chance, but for now I'm unimpressed. read more

Terrible service all three times I've had deliveries from here. They ALWAYS send me a different wine than what I ask for (I complain about this every call) and they never fail to forget something i've ordered in the deliveries. I have tried to complain to a higher up, but the person on the phone continued to hang up on me every time i called and asked to speak to a manager. Hmmm...It pains me to write this, but I have witnessed the slow decline of this business over the years and my last experience was really bad. Perhaps it was an off day? Basically, we didn't get what we ordered, the server never checked on us once, and the food quality was just plain poor. Excessively greasy, burned to a crisp, just sub par. It was slow, too, so there's really no excuse. I read some of the other reviews and they're hit & miss...Here's to hoping it was a bad day. It didn't start mine out well. Hey Cornucopia...if you're going to do breakfast, do it right. If you're going to do what you did to my group on our last visit, don't even offer breakfast. Two stars may seem a bit harsh, but I would have given it 1 star if I didn't have some fond memories of past experiences with Cornucopia. This morning I decided to give breakfast another try. I've had some good experiences with their breakfasts, but have had some very poor and drawn out experiences over the years. 45 minutes!!!, just for the food, and 10 minutes waiting to order! I can understand this if the place was packed, but we were the fifth table seated and 3 tables already had their food. Now, as someone with roots deep in the service industry community, the lack of urgency/customer service within the staff is beyond laughable. One guy on 9 tables, fine. But there were 7, count them, 7, employees in the building during this fateful morning. I understand that they have some catering duties/office obligations, but your restaurant is your flagship, if it sinks/sucks you fail. When one of my companions and I left, one commented to the server on how long things took and the inconsistency of the food. The server said, "the new guy is doing good, last week he was a trainee and now he's pumping the food out." 45minutes!!! Today was most likely my last time visiting cornucopia. If I want overpriced food, slow service, and a who cares? service attitude, then I may return, but it's quite unlikely. Ownership: if you keep getting bad reviews/EW worst service awards, bad reviews/yelps or what have you, take heed! In the past I would have easily given this place a 5 star rating. The food was amazing, the drinks excellent, and the atmosphere outstanding. I have been going there for over 20 years, when they where a corner market and deli...I lived just around the corner. They also had one of the best beer selections in Eugene. Over time they became a full on restuarant with patio seating for the warmer days. The menu was excellent and they served the best breakfast in town...my wife and I made this our breakfast tradition. However, over the last year something has happened to,this place. I don't know if it is new management or a new owner, but it's not the same neighborhood joint. The staff is kinda snobby, not attentive, and the place is more about creating a "feel" than just being what it always was, the neighborhood joint. The last time we went they had us sitting without water for almost 20 mins and it was nearly another 20 minutes more before they took our order. It was a game day, so it was a busy morning, and we had expected a wait and were patient. We had to wait another 15 minutes before they brought us our Bloody Mary and mimosa. We noticed other people leaving because they were not being waited on. The staff was bickering at each other, and I heard the manager cursing right on the floor...it was a pretty bad day. So nearly an hour after we had ordered, we noticed other people who had come in much later than us were getting their food. When we spoke with the waiter he assured us it wouldn't be much longer...we waited for another 20 minutes. We left, but I paid for our drinks...though they discounted my wife's drink for "our troubles." Needless to say, we won't be going back. Sad! read more

Walking distance from my house so the boyfriend and I went here for breakfast one time. Sat outside and it was just great! Our waiter was really nice and diligent. Boyfriend got biscuits and gravy and I got a breakfast burrito. SOGOOD! They have a cold brew coffee here that is out of this world. The hostess/server was happy enough to get us seated, and continue seating as many folks as possible, even though there just aren't enough servers to accommodate all of us crammed in there. The food was amazing, our server was great and the beer selection was awesome. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because it was literally hotter than hell inside the restaurant. We chose to sit inside because it was a hot day but we should have sat outside as it was cooler outside than in the establishment. I was so sweaty and hot I lost my appetite and didn't finish my sandwich. Our water was hot by the end of the meal so we quit drinking it. But the food was so good and the tots were especially delicious, I'll be back but maybe in the winter. read more
