French Dip

Food and ambiance were just fine. Try the French Dip, fries are good as well. The place seems to be popular with the local lunch crowd so be prepared if you go at noon. Overall very good.

If you want to go to a good restaurant without dressing up all fancy, come here and you will not be disappointed. It's a relaxed setting with family friendly vibe. They have breakfast lunch and dinner served all day and all of it is delicious. I've had the Country Breakfast Combo, the Big Texas Brisket Sandwich and the French Dip. All of these dishes did not disappoint and would order them again. They have a full bar and have outside seating that you can enjoy your beverage on sunny days.

Our experience was perfect. My daughter and I went in for appetizers and a drink. The fried pickles were crunchy and not soggy. The ranch was perfect, and the additional sauce was zesty and flavorful. We also had fried artichoke hearts. That's a tall order considering we are from California and lived only 20 minutes from the artichoke capital of the world. We know good artichoke hearts. I would give them a seven on a scale from 1 to 10. They could easily get up to a 10 if they did an actual fluffy batter on the artichoke hearts. The crust around the artichoke hearts is good but underwhelming. They get an eight because they are hard to find and I was happy. They had them on the menu. Service was perfect. Our waitress was attentive and quick. She was friendly and professional. I had the Marion Berry lemon drop with a sugar rim. It is a premium cocktail and they could do one up with it if they held off on the triple sec, and used orange juice instead. Still, It was absolutely delicious. We also discovered a new cider. If you like a sweet cider, you will love strawberry magic by cider boys. I believe it was on tap and what a treat. The restaurant was clean and the environment was family friendly. There was a good deal of chatter, but nothing uncomfortable or overwhelming. We will definitely be returning for appetizers and drinks in the future. The only negative thing I have to say has to do with the smell. When I first walked in I noticed it right away that there was a heavy smell of fried food. And when we got into our cars, we realized that it had permeated our clothing and our hair. This morning, when my daughter got up her hair reeked of cooking grease. She was pretty bummed out. I would not go here if I was going on a date because I certainly wouldn't want to take that smell with me but if you don't mind that in the evening, it's game on because I felt the juice was worth the squeeze.

I enjoyed lunch with my grandfather to celebrate him to day as he is a veteran who served 25 years in the Army. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and our waitress was amazing! Just look at the food, I mean hello mouth watering! I truly do love this restaurant it's such a great setting for any meal.

Happy that my friend recommend this restaurant to us. We came at the lunch time but breakfast and dinner serve all day. I'm so happy about that Enjoy our food so much. Our waitress, Alicia, she is so nice and gives us a really good services. She is very patient and friendly which made our meal more delicious.

Some Fall Specials!

My Partner and I wanted to try a spot we haven't gone to and we would like to rate our overall experience a 10/10! Everything was so yummy. I had a Hot Cider and my partner had a Seasonal Apple Spice Mimosa not really sure but it is on the Seasonal menu! We had around a 15 minute wait for a table but the Host was very kind and so was our Server. Service was great! Food was great! Will be coming again.

This clam chowder was very good, and the service was good as well. But the claw chowder bowl was a bit small. Not a ton of ambiance. It would be a good place to get something to eat and watch the Ducks games.

Every establishment I walk into starts with five stars, what they do from there is 100% up to them. We ordered onion rings for appetizers which came with two fresh dips and were some of the best rings we've had. Amazing! My dinner came with soup, ordered the Chicken Corn Chowder. Amazing, and would order this again but get a bowl instead. It's that good! Now comes the "Rub" part: I have been eating chicken virtually my entire life and am very versed with it, what it looks like and texture should be, as I had a lot of raising by Southern Grandparents. I love good chicken. What was served was a chopped meat, more on the dark side, for a better terminology, "Chicken McNugget" affair, deep fried and heavily breaded. No beautiful white chicken breast, bursting with flavor. Their menu called it out, and their picture on line showed it. The pictures I took and what I got was a polar opposite. It struck me as a lower-end Sysco-type frozen patty that was pulled out of a bag, deep fried and country grave smothered over it. The corn was frozen and had a weird taste to it, which was confirmed by my wife. Service was good, but she should have questioned why half or so of my meal was still on the plate. Establishment was clean including the restroom and overall had a decent vibe about it. This place has the potential to do much better, they just have to do it. Will we be back? I'd have to think that one over, as there are lots of great restaurants with great offerings for the same price, so we will see. One thing for certain, I would never order the "Country Fried Chicken" as it differs radically from what it is presented to be and what reality is. Great service! We were immediately seated and taken care of. Hostess even asked if I wanted a table in the bar because it was quieter than the main room (they had a large party in there). The staff was busy with the larger party but made sure were taken care of. The menu has a variety of items for every one. I appreciate their smaller portion items as well! I ordered the basic breakfast with 1 egg, 1 meat, hash browns and toast and it was the perfect amount of food for the price. The chicken fried steak was delicious. Batter was crispy, the steak itself was actually flavorful. Glad we stopped on by.

Dungeness crab omelette all day!!! My husband never eats omelettes and he devoured this one! Biscuit was moist, warm and seemed fresh. Delish! The kids French toast was tasty, although I think they should make a blueberry compote instead of serving thawed frozen blueberries. I guess kids don't care? Overall good quality food for the price always served with a smile. We'll be back soon.

Busy but they had a table for us. Very nice decor, rotating menu. We had the buckwheat pancakes with caramelized bananas, dates, and pineapple syrup which was sweet but not overly so since the pancakes underneath were not touched by the syrup ended up being a really nice balance. Bacon was like a cross between pork belly and bacon (very thick) but really tasty. Breakfast Sando was good with in-house ground pork and a nice aioli. We also tried the savory macarons (Brie and truffle) which are delicious. Creamy and a tad sweet. Not too much truffle. Coffee was a bright tangy pour over-not my favorite type but some people really like that style. Oh, and we had a blood orange mimosa which was really good Overall an excellent experience! Let us begin with the triumph. The buckwheat pancakes arrive not merely as breakfast, but as a composition. A stack of admirable loft and structure--evidence of a properly developed batter, handled with restraint and precision. The crumb is airy yet resilient, each bite yielding gently before dissolving into a delicate nuttiness inherent to buckwheat. A caramelized banana sauce pools generously, glossy and fragrant, its sweetness tempered by the cultured tang of crème fraîche. Toasted coconut chips scatter across the top like crisp punctuation, lending both aroma and texture. This is cooking that understands balance--sweetness checked by acidity, softness lifted by crunch, comfort elevated by technique. It is, quite simply, a five out of five dish. The kitchen, here, remembers what it means to nourish and delight. And then--alas--we encounter its counterpoint. Here, there is none. And the macaron itself? A confection that should whisper with delicacy instead resists with age. The Verdict Lion & Owl is a restaurant caught between what it is capable of and what it consistently delivers. There is real talent in this kitchen--evident in the pancakes, in the conceptual ambition of the menu, in flashes of thoughtful composition. But talent without rigor is unreliable. And hospitality without coordination is hollow. For every moment of genuine pleasure, there is another of carelessness--overcooked bread, stale pastry, inattentive plating, lapses in cleanliness, and disjointed service. In the end, one must judge the whole, not the highlights. Overall score: 2 out of 5. A restaurant with promise--undeniably--but one that must remember that excellence is not achieved in moments. It is achieved in consistency, in care, and in respect for the guest at every stage of the meal. Until then, Lion & Owl remains... a place that almost is.

The staff has always been (and still very much is) top notch in everything they do...but the food quality has dropped significantly to the point we can no longer justify the expensive. We've learned the changes began shortly after a new owner came in. Some of the changes we've noticed: The fish in the fish 'n chips is now buried in deep fried batter to the point I had to peel away most of the breading just to get to what little fish was there. The steak and eggs ($30) offers barely 4 ounces of steak, small heap of potatoes and two eggs...not enough to justify the price. They downgraded their organic, thick-cut pepper bacon to some odd, paper thin variety that is not very appealing and it would seem they no longer make their biscuits gravy in house! It now looks and tastes bland and pasty...industrialized. They used to have magnificent herbed gravy made from scratch so this is particularly disappointing. They no longer have real maple syrup. The prices remain that of an organic, farm-to-table but the food no longer qualifies and is very overpriced for what it is. I will really miss my Sunday mornings there but I just can't stomach these shortcomings. Very sad to see our favorite restaurant reduced to this state. If I could, I would give the staff 5+ stars and the food 1.

Kudos to the chef for getting it fully well done; oftentimes I order a burger this way and it comes out with some pink on it. The bacon was also cooked through, another item that usually comes half cooked or less. It was accompanied with fries and I was really pleased with my choice. Some of the others got the short rib, salmon, and steak and everyone was happy with the meal. I decided to get an alcoholic beverage and was torn between the Starry Night and the Oregon Mule. I don't usually like a mule, but this one had marionberry vodka and I'm a sucker for just about anything with marionberry flavor so I went for it. I was surprised how much I liked this drink, because ginger beer usually is far too overpowering and here it was well balanced with the rest of the drink. I would order this again, and probably liked it better than the bit of the Starry Night I tasted from my sister. They also have seasonal drinks and lots of beers and wines to choose from. It's in the Gordon Hotel, so it's hard to miss (except I did, because for some reason I didn't make the connection that the Gordon Tavern was of course the restaurant at the Gordon Hotel). Very welcoming and attentive. Between the three of us, we ordered the spicy pulled pork pizza, the wild mushroom pizza, and the Tavern Burger. Everything was delicious. The pizzas were flavorful and the burger really hit the spot. It ended up being the perfect pre-show stop before heading to the Hult. Definitely recommend, and we'll be making this a priority spot for our future pre-Hult show nights.
