I used to love this place when it was the Beanery. Seize really needs to shape up thier customer service. They were rude and when we went to set down at 3:45, they told us the tables were reserved for dinner customers that come at 4:00. They would not let us order from the menu. They said we could go have pizza. They were nice in the pizza portion but the pizza was not that great. read more

Went there with my father on November 8th, 2025. We had a reservation. My father called 2 days prior and confirmed reservation. Upon arriving, we were told there was no reservation. Talked to manager and we were told that his staff were completely trustworthy and mistake could not have been made. Therefore, implicating my father was lying. Talk about customer is always first. Have had some underwhelming lunches here but today was probably the last. The seafood chowder was very watery and mostly just potato. Sandwiches are quite small and meager. Mine had a total of three pieces of greasy potato as the side salad. Spouse had a beefalo burger with cold bun and single soggy leaf of lettuce. The bread here seems good, I will say that. You order at a counter, find your own table, clean it first, and then clean it again when finished. Dinner may be better based on the menu, but I would avoid lunches. read more

I have never been disappointed with a meal at Seize the Cafe. The food is elegant and always well prepared. The price is less than I expect for such high quality. The service is friendly, competent, and personal. They all manage to stay cheerful even during the busiest of times. I love the fish dishes - my favorite place to try new & interesting fishes and ways to prepare - lovely seasonings and always cooked perfectly. I tasted the pork and pasta dishes and they were excellent as well! Desserts are well represented. Tonight we 3 tried a lemon tarte, a fig cheesecake, and a flourless chocolate cake. I've been here for lunch several times with friends and the pastries are very good. The sandwiches are flavorful, put together very nicely on good house made bread. But there are a couple of things that we didn't care for unfortunately. The sandwich size is quite small, definitely not enough for a satisfying lunch for a person of average appetites. It's accompanied by a small amount of an unusual type of potato salad that is a bit mushy with a weird taste. We hear that the dinners are really good so we'll try that. read more

Seize is open for dinner until 8 PM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The dinner plates are new every week. Tonight they included a wonderful braised tritip of beef served with scallop potatoes, a salmon with rice and rhubarb compote, both served with asparagus, the best locally grown fresh vegetable available in early May. Both dishes were magnificent, extremely well prepared and large enough that there was some to take home and feast on later. We also had a very simple but very fresh beet salad with butter lettuce, a very simple but elegant dressing and crumbled blue cheese, also all available very local and very fresh right now. The very simple decor is serviceable with little change from the coffee shop that preceded this restaurant. Our waitress was prompt, very polite and clear. We were there exactly an hour for the three courses (including an excellent key lime pie, entirely prepared there and delicious), but we did not feel rushed at all. I look forward to coming again for dinner and also to try breakfast and lunch that are served more days. This restaurant has been open for several years, but I had not known about it until a few days ago. You come too! read more

The server I had was really nice, but the beefalo burger definitely made me sick as a dog. The environment was also extremely uncomfortable. I believe I saw employees walking out (or at least, I saw the manager or owner yelling at them as they got into their cars and left). Overall, I would maybe recommend this place to someone I really don't like, but I personally would never go again. read more

I went to this place as part of a special event, never been there before. The place is very modest and humble, which is just fine. The food however, was an altogether different matter, it was among the best food I have ever had in Eugene. My wife had fish with rice and asparagus and the fish was perfect, something we seldom can say and the rice heavenly. I had risotto with real fantastic shitake mushrooms, perfectly done and amazing mushroom flavour. You would never know driving by that this place is putting out some of the best baked goods in Eugene. Best brownie in Eugene (or possibly tied with Noisette). Excellent key lime pie. Super tasty coconut almond cake and apple cider donut. We are planning on eating dinner here at least once a week since that's the only way to get some of the best sourdough you'll eat. Seize the Cafe is a limited seating restaurant in an aging strip mall that has probably some of the best food in Eugene. We were lucky enough to snag an early evening table the same day we called, and we arrived to find a small restaurant with about 10 tables, all of which were in sight of the kitchen's plating table. We both had the butter lettuce salad with hazelnuts and the snapper (a special for the evening) with rice and vegetables. Both were excellent. I can honestly say it was the best meal that I've had in five years. The wait staff was well trained and very attentive, and knew the menu by heart. The wine selection was adequate and there was a good selection of desserts. Everything was fresh and made in-house. To top it off, the prices were amazingly reasonable - the salads were $6 each and the snappers were $21. Wonderful experience. We'll be back. read more

It was our first time there - I ordered the beef bourguignon, it was awful- dry and fat and a cheap cut of meat - the potatoes were Greasy and the carrots undercooked- I should have sent it back but didn't- my husband had the fish - it was better than the beef - that's why I gave it two stars instead of one. I try not to have that sound." During our evening visit, Seize The Cafe's waitstaff achieved that subtle objective while delivering plates of chef Chad Fuhrec's exceptional creations to your table. The rest of the staff, however, succeed in producing a continuous high decibel-range of clatter, making conversation amongst diners a struggle. A fully packed Olive Garden or Mazzi's is church-like compared to the noise level at Seize The Cafe. Perhaps the owner is hearing impaired. Let's hope he installs a drive-through takeout window for his incredibly fine food. Their parking lot is roomy enough for a pleasant meal and conversation amongst passengers. I was there after coming back from swimming in the nearby Amazon pool. This café, which doubles as a restaurant, is a great place to relax, have a coffee (wonderful large espressos), a snack and pastries. They also have great homemade rosemary bread. You can feel, it's made with love. All in all, everything I've tried here over the years has been great. read more

We had the pan-fried walleye which was clearly previously frozen and tasted "fishy" in addition to being somewhat soggy. Seize is in the old Allan Bros. Coffee shop on Hilyard in SE Eugene. I've only had dinner there, and it's typically a small staff of 2 that runs the entire place! They accomplish this by having only 3 new entrees weekly plus a variety of salads and appetizers. I don't drink, so I don't know about the drink selection, but I have eaten in a lot of great restaurants in all the big cities on the west coast, and I can say that Sieze holds its own with the best of them. It's all accomplished by keeping it small and keeping it simple (not to suggest the food is simple. Its creative and gourmet at it's best). I also need to mention the deserts are fantastic. Last night was Strawberry Rhubarb pie a la mode and Earl Grey ice cream with chunks of figs in it. The food is great, staff is friendly and professional: the only area I see for improvement would be to serve later and more nights a week! read more

This is my new favorite lunch place. Every bite was like a chorus of "yeah's!" bursting in our mouths as a friend I devoured our sandwiches within minutes. I ordered the slow cooked beef and she had the mushroom Swiss sandwich--both came with a teasing smidge of delicious homemade potato salad. We also had the roasted beet salad with blue cheese. OMG. The menu was adventurous, too: there was a duck confit sandwich with carmelized onions, which wouldn't be normal fare at a sandwich shop. The slow cooked beef melted in my mouth. They also make homemade soups, one of which had seafood, but I can't remember what in particular. Specials change weekly. This is gourmet food with a very reasonable price tag. Our sandwiches were $10 and $9 and the baked goods were under $5 each. A man was leaving with a dozen baked donuts and was such a fan that he offered to give me one, smiling sheepishly and divulging, " I took the last of them for today!" Bless the owner's heart, for the care and integrity come across in the presentation, creation and resulting flavor/taste. One of my favorite things was watching the owner and another baker roll out dough and fashion pie crusts on the large open wood butcher block that is next to the front counter. You can sit right in front. The thought crossed my mind of "why don't other bakeries give us a sneak peek into this?" But perhaps I am a baking geek and get easily thrilled by things like this. There is a full cappuccino bar and pizza restaurant as part of the establishment. We will be back to try the pizza and all the other wonderful items on the menu.
