    Pesto gnocchi (with no hazelnut)
    Sarah R.

I stopped in to try a new spot, and I was not disappointed! There was only one server for the whole restaurant, but you'd never know it. She was on her game and so sweet (I think her name we Chelsea). I asked about NA drink options and she gave me a lot of choices, and even offered to mix me up anything I wanted. I ended up with the cutest NA pink drink! Then I got the pesto gnocchi and it was delish! I actually got two meals out of it.

We had a great meal at Sophia's. The shrimp scampi was delicious with lots of shrimp. The chef told us he isn't good at portion sizes and I can attest to all his dishes being supersized! We started with Arancini and bread. Both were great. The cocktails are yummy too. Service was leisurely, might be slow to some people but for us it was okay because we had time to visit with our friends. Let's support this great local Italian spot.

I wanted to love this place I really did.. I know it is new so I write this with understanding that there may still be some kinks being worked out. Sophia's is located in the cute downtown Springfield area that almost automatically gives you a leg up on ambiance due to the old building charm. When you walk in you are greeted by nice old wood floors, the tables and chairs are nice but then as you look up it feels like they haven't quite finished figuring out the decor. It has the potential for a nice date night vibe but it's not quite there yet. The menu has a decent variety of options without having too many choices. When I asked I was told that the gnocchi is house made but the pasta isn't. I'm a sucker for anything made in house so I went with the pesto gnocchi. It was inconsistent sizes which I took as good evidence that it was infact house made unfortunately the inconsistent sizes and/or maybe an over crowed pan meant it was not cooked evenly. The pesto sauce could have been much more flavorfull, by about halfway through my dish I was pretty over it and the few very roughly chopped sun dried tomatoes sprinkled on top didn't do much to help. My husband got the shrimp scampi. Not only was it not super warm, unfortunately the shrimp was overcooked and this dish was also lacking flavor other than the random red pepper flakes that were sprinkled on top that felt out of place. The menu shows two options to purchase bread, a 5 dollar option that doesn't specify what kind other than that it is house made and comes with a couple things on the side and then a 19 dollar focaccia bread with fresh veggies, whipped feta-ricotta and other accompaniments. We didn't order bread but then we were surprised when we received a plate of a half loaf with olive oil and balsamic. Now I'm not one to complain about free bread, however when I asked I was told that this was in fact the house made focaccia... This news left me very thankful that I didn't gamble on the 19 dollar focaccia plate because the only hint that this bread is trying to be passed as focaccia was an oily bottom and a faint dusting of what seemed like dried powdered herbs... Where is the garlic, fresh herbs, chunky salt and the dimpling? Ok that was a lot of negative but here is what was good. The service was incredibly friendly. From what I could tell there was only one front of house staff and one back of house staff but our waters were never empty and we were checked on multiple times even though the restaurant was full. Despite my hesitations I'd love to come back and try a pizza or brunch. I do hope these guys can grow into becoming a great addition to the downtown Springfield area

Sophia's Trattoria had their soft opening and they are working out some kinks. That said, they served a delicious pasta dish of el dente linguini with butter and white wine sauce, with shrimp scampi and fresh tomatoes. That dish was absolutely perfect! The pizza we ordered, and shared, was the Pezzonovante pizza, with salami and portobello and cheeses with a red sauce. The crust was nice and crispy without being burned, the amount of toppings was just right. We did not care that much for the Arancini, the fried risotto balls. They were fried properly but they were too bland even with the two different sauces it came with. Like I said, they are working out the kinks and the ordering system did not function well for our table which made it a long wait before we got our food. The two waitresses were very kind and apologized several times, and even comped part of our meal, but it was frustrating to see other tables coming in and being served while we still waited for,our food to arrive. In the end, the great food and especially the pasta made up for the inconvenience of the wait. The restaurant is small with about 8 tables and a small bar. They have a limited but interesting menu, a happy hour from 4-6 during the week, cocktails and wine. I love the trattoria style where you can order multiple things and share with the table, if you want to. The tables are called by the picture that hangs above it. Kind of hilarious since the picture above ours was about a resting bitch face which cracked us up. Plenty of free parking in downtown Springfield. I will surely return.

Such a lovely little place, cute and charming location with good drinks and friendly staff. Menu selections are all wonderful! And the fogged pig pizza is a must try!

The Shrimp Scampi had a lot of things going for it, but it works well! There's definitely palpable various levels of flavor and depth!

I accidentally came by this place just browsing for place to take my aunt who is visiting from So-Cal for dinner before she leaves. I'm not local to Springfield, so giving this place a try was a gamble....BUT... it was definitely worth it! This place is a gem, and so refreshing. I enjoy finding small, family-owned restaurants that are just genuine, honest and leave you with a warm feeling after having their food. I love their simple presentations because it belies how good their food is! I love their bread plate, and it is just the right serving size. I heartily went thru my Bolognese plate with a smile, and my aunt had their Scampi! The only thing that made me a bit impatient was the wait time... BUT... it was soo worth it! Met the chef and he was gracious and kind! I'll definitely be back here soon with my son and family members so they can try it. You should too!

Had a wonderfully delicious meal and service at Sophia's Trattoria last night. My cocktail was delicious. The shrimp scampi was delicious and just the right amount of food.

Great food, great staff. Just opened so they're still working out a couple kinks but the food and staff are super on it!

I've always found there was too much BBQ sauce on the pizza. I was very pleasantly surprised with the more of a drizzle of BBQ sauce on R Pizza, so I gave it a shot. I have to say it was easily the best BBQ chicken pizza I'd ever had. That leads me to tonight...it was one of those nights where you don't feel like cooking dinner and pizza sounds great. I was running through my normal list of pizza restaurants, and then I remembered R Pizza. I searched for them online and was quickly taken to GrubHub for ordering online. I loaded up the GrubHub app and R Pizza came up and even had a coupon on top of their great pricing. I didn't need my order for a couple of hours, so I scheduled it and waited to get off work. I arrived about 5 minutes ahead of my scheduled pick up, and walked in. I was greeted promptly with a smile by a nice woman at the counter while a couple of men in the back were working in the kitchen. I told her I had a GrubHub order, and she knew my name and said it would be about 4 minutes. I sad down and listed to the music that was playing while I waited. I noticed something almost immediately, how clean everything was, and how clean everything smelled. As I looked around, it was obvious they care about the cleanliness of the restaurant. A few minutes later, the nice woman al the counter said everything was ready for me with a smile. I picked up my boxes and proceeded to my car. Everything smelled so good, I had to try the garlic cheese bread. It was super-good and I was excited to try the rest when I returned home. Once home, I opened up the boxes and everything was perfect and my order was exactly as I ordered. I added ranch for dipping for 75 cents and was impressed I had 3 containers in the bag, not just one. The cheese bread seems to be made on some very fresh French bread, topped with garlic, cheese and pesto in the least. It was cooked to perfection being crisp on the bottom, doughy in the middle, and cheesy on top. The flavors all blended incredibly well, and I would buy this over and over. I'm not sure what they do with their dough that is different, but it's great. It's not something you will get at any other place I can think of for pizza. It was once again cooked to perfection, crispy on the bottom, cooked thoroughly through and the toppings amount wasn't too much, or too little. The sauce is subtle and blends great with the amount of cheese and toppings. I would call it more cheese-heavy than sauce heavy. Everything is balanced correctly. Needless to say, I'll be returning to get more pizza here. The pricing is correct, a the product is obviously fresh and the employees know how to cook. It's so refreshing to find a clean place where employees obviously care about quality and customer service.

These are far from your traditional pizza (which I'm used to). I was leery about steering outside of the comfort of standard pizza menu....I am thrilled I ventured into R Pizza. They are truly the Bomb! The thin pizza isn't really thin which is perfect and it is flavorful in it's own right. We had the Paneer Tikka Pizza- Goodness it was so delicious. Very flavorful, crunchy crust bottom and soft doughy crust middle... perfect. We also had the BBQ pizza that had a BBQ drizzle on it in addition. We added hot peppers to it... added even more perfection to it. The service was incredible. Prices are fair and in today's economy, you can't beat that. You get what you pay for and you pay for amazing pizza for a great price We took our dessert to go- definitely must try the Rangoli Cake- A must try if you haven't tried them yet.

Weekends and evenings are hectic, the place is packed and our wait was around 35 minutes. On weekday midday we were seated and served right away. Servers are very accomodating and attentive. Our food came out relatively fast both times, within 15-20 mins of ordering for multiple dishes. The basic marinara pizza is surpsingly very good and is our favorite so far. The thin crust is cooked perfectly with a satisfying bite, and the marinara with garlic/oregano/olio verde/pecorino was simple yet delicious. All pizzas come with chili flakes and parmesean to add to your liking. The pepperoni and Il Tuffo were great too. The menu has a variety of pizzas with yummy sounding topping combos that keep you wanting to come back and try them all. The location is clean and lively, with a lot of varied seating indoor and out. And, it's tradition to grab icecream next door, which is a good use of time during longer waits. For the price and the quality, the pizzas are definitely worth coming for.

I won't bore you with details on crust (thinnish with a nice chew) or toppings (interesting varieties and well and evenly dispersed, nothing clumped in one area) and the friendly staff, etc. Nope, I would not have been there numerous times over the last handful of years and recommend it to most everyone I know. So why just the three-star rating? Lemme tell you about a pet peeve of mine: automatic gratuities. Tips added on to the total without any indication to the patron. Don't get me wrong-- I completely understand for larger parties, like six or more. I've spent months/years as a waiter so I understand the frustration of working hard to please a table only to get a 10% tip. As a now-former waiter, I try to tip generously. What I don't understand or expect is an automatic gratuity for small group, especially when I am a solo diner. Just me. Party of one. With minimal indication on the bill as to the added tip. After my last time at H-N-I-P I got the check, added on my own tip and paid. Then I pondered on the total. It seems funky -- why is it more than just the pizza and salad I ate... there's no tax in Oregon... Whuh? I look more closely at the bill and see that they already added on a tip...? I guess they just got a nearly 50% tip from me. Which might be the last tip because it's seriously irritating. In time I'll probably have a pizza craving that only they can fill, and go back. I'll look more closely at the menu to see if and where the automatic gratuity is mentioned. Enjoy the pizza. Beware the automatic gratuity.
