It's weird that I've never written a review for Hey Neighbor It's Pizza (H-N-I-P) before since I consider it to be about the best product in town. I won't bore you with details on crust (thinnish with a nice chew) or toppings (interesting varieties and well and evenly dispersed, nothing clumped in one area) and the friendly staff, etc. Nope, I would not have been there numerous times over the last handful of years and recommend it to most everyone I know. So why just the three-star rating? Lemme tell you about a pet peeve of mine: automatic gratuities. Tips added on to the total without any indication to the patron. Don't get me wrong-- I completely understand for larger parties, like six or more. I've spent months/years as a waiter so I understand the frustration of working hard to please a table only to get a 10% tip. As a now-former waiter, I try to tip generously. What I don't understand or expect is an automatic gratuity for small group, especially when I am a solo diner. Just me. Party of one. With minimal indication on the bill as to the added tip. After my last time at H-N-I-P I got the check, added on my own tip and paid. Then I pondered on the total. It seems funky -- why is it more than just the pizza and salad I ate... there's no tax in Oregon... Whuh? I look more closely at the bill and see that they already added on a tip...? I guess they just got a nearly 50% tip from me. Which might be the last tip because it's seriously irritating. In time I'll probably have a pizza craving that only they can fill, and go back. I'll look more closely at the menu to see if and where the automatic gratuity is mentioned. Enjoy the pizza. Beware the automatic gratuity. read more

I went with my sister and some friends. The restaurant is small inside, there are tables outside though. We went on a Thursday around 6 PM. There were portable heat lamps by the tables and a clear tent over half the outdoor tables. There was a QR code for the menu. No one took our order. If you wanted a drink, you had to go inside and order. The server brought water for the table. Other than that, there wasn't any interaction with staff. We ordered two pizzas. The wait was super long! The pizzas were fair. The bottom of the pizza was a little soggy, didn't hold up by itself. The size of the pizza was fair for the price. read more

If there is a more versatile and comforting food when you're hungry than pizza, then I don't know what it might be. On a cold, rainy night in Eugene, Hey Neighbor provided me exactly what I wanted. I ordered online, which I was able to coordinate through my Toast account, and it was super easy to handle pick-up. Even a rainy evening doesn't dampen the experience, given that Hey Neighbor has patio seating, both covered and un-coverable in colder weather (huzzah for tenting & heaters!). I grabbed a pint while I waited, some local Falling Sky for $7 a glass, and got my pie to go. Well, sort of, as I had to grab a wedge before I walked home, because pizza & beer were made for one another. The pizza, fresh from an oven a couple of degrees south of the surface of the sun, was SUBLIME. Crisped-up crust with a couple of bubbles and a little singe here and there, generous toppings, and OMG that sauce! A fresh as you please and jammed with flavor - so good! A 10-12" pie runs you $15 or more, depending on your choices, and that size is advised to feed one to two people, but you could easily kill one by yourself. That's a bit pricey but not unlike a lot of the pizza market in the EUG and the value far outpaces chains and other locals. Parking stinks because it's near campus and whatever, but you can also get it delivered if you're swimming in cash (Tip: go get it). Whatever your method, just know that the pizza is so worth the wait, price, and environment. Great pie in a great space! read more

Not a single worker made eye contact with us - not when taking the order and not when placing the food on our table. The response to our "thank you" was "okay." Pizza was very burnt- we left a pile of charred remains on the pizza pan. Ambiance and seating options are mostly outside and mostly under a patio roof. read more

My second time here but first time at this location, food was great! Location here is perfect for a sweet treat afterwards and what is close by. Pizza here is super good, we even tried some bread appetizer as well and it was good. We had the margherita pizza as usual and the seasonal pickle dill pizza, I wasn't convinced until I tried it! It was super tasty! Dough is fluffy but crispy. We always eat ours with ranch, the ranch there is good too. Service here was fairly quick and you just order online which I honestly prefer. read more

Was visiting Eugene for a weekend and decided to try this place out. I'm not kidding when I say this was the best caesar salad I've ever had...so good that two were ordered in the same sitting! the Aperol Spritz was reasonably priced and of the correct ratio. Bombo was easily the favorite! the outdoor seating area is pretty cool and spacious, especially when the weather is nice. staff was very attentive and friendly! Stopped in tonight to get a couple pizzas after hearing people rave about it for a long time. We must have caught them on a bad night, because I came away thoroughly unimpressed. We got the Brooklyn and the Polpetta. I tried a bite of the Polpetta, but there was something very bitter tasting about it I didn't like. I still can't figure out what it was. The Brooklyn didn't have the bitter aftertaste so I ate that one instead, but I have to admit I wasn't a fan of the sausage they used on the Brooklyn. The worst part, however, was the crust. It was ridiculously soggy in the middle, yet the outer crust was tough and hard to chew (the outer crust is normally my favorite part). I managed to eat two pieces of it, but I think I'm done. I don't even think it will reheat well because I'm afraid the bottom will be even soggier and the outer part will get even tougher. I'm just bummed that I didn't get the same experience everyone else seems to have with this place. But I'm also afraid of giving it another try and being disappointed again (especially given how expensive it is). read more

Came and got some good pizza from this small local chain in Eugene. Hey, Neighbor! has a few locations, including this one on 19th. It pretty much is like a bar that has pizza. Beers and cocktails. The pizza has a few plant based options. After looking for pizza place, we came here. It's one of the local favorites, and most people were saying good things about it. They weren't that busy when we got there. For an independent artisan pizza place, it's actually affordable. It's about $12 for a large. We got the Marinara Pizza. Classic. This comes with crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, olio verde, and pecorino Romano. Substitute vegan mozzarella for another buck. The pizza was hot and fresh. Good place for local pizza and other stuff like beer and bruschetta. It's located by the University Of Oregon campus on 19th. There's plenty of options for meat eaters and vegetarians. read more

I visited Hey, Neighbor! for the first time while visiting family in Eugene. We sat outside and I loved this option, with a heater on the table and a plastic barrier that we could still see through while it shielded us from the rain. We shared a Carnero pizza and it was delicious! The server was friendly and we were able to order using a code on the table, although if you don't have a phone with you (as is usually the case with me), I'm not sure how you'd order. Hopefully they'd figure out a way to make it work without requiring technology. The best part was that I didn't feel overfull or gross after the meal, which I can't always say is the case with getting pizza from a restaurant. It made me feel good about the ingredients they use! I will return the next time I'm in town, and I'm looking forward to trying more from the menu such as some of their great-sounding appetizers! read more

I'm so happy to live so near this delicious pizza joint. They have some delicious and unique flavor and texture combinations that keep you coming back! We recently tried the melanzana pizza, and the cherry pie. Yes, cherries. It was absolutely divine! We also enjoy their white pies and potato pie! The kids had the pepperoni and loved it, wife and I had the spicey meatball pizza with thick fresh mushrooms. Affordable 12 inch pizzas that are gourmet and made fresh, paid about 36$ for two. Crowded night last night with family weekend but they have a great online check-in process so we were able to walk around the neighborhood while we waited. Definitely worth the wait! This was my first visit to Hey Neighbor and I was pleasantly surprised. They were very busy as it was a sunny Saturday afternoon and we still managed to grab seats inside at the bar. Leo, our server/FOH, was welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed an arugula salad to start as we waited for our pizzas. The pizzas are wood-fired and came out hot. Plato wrote of his mentor and teacher Socrates discussing heavenly forms and ideal creations--the perfect representation of some worldly thing, be it a horse, a column, or a man. So great was Plato's influence on this discussion that everyone started referring to the Platonic Ideals (or "Ideas," if you want to get really authentic). At any rate, it's all about what makes a deal the real deal. And if Plato were looking to define his Ideal of a neighborhood college-town pizza joint, he'd be hard-pressed to define it much better than the Hey, Neighbor! Pizza House (though he might do a better job with the name). This is a joint that's quirky and smart and dishes up some awesome Neopolitan-ish pies and a handful of solid Oregon beers. I ordered the Bombo--a no-nonsense combination of ricotta, mozzarella, pepperoni, and basil with just a soupçon (I love that word) of hot honey to take it over the top. The crust was crispy where it needed to be with a little softness on the inside, basically just what Hippocrates ordered. My dining companion had the Maiale E Mele--an interesting blend of prosciutto, Gorgonzola, and fresh apple with a balsamic reduction. The prosciutto and cheese worked well together, and the apple just needs even distribution. As Plato noted, virtue lies in avoiding extremes, both in apple distribution and philosophical bent. Let's keep it even out there. But all this solid 'za still wouldn't define the aforementioned Platonic Ideal if it weren't for the great atmosphere, service, and just plain hip coolness of HN!PH (again, work on the name, y'all). Most of the seating is outdoors, though there are four or five indoor tables that provide an intimate and quiet contrast to a more kid-friendly, raucous outdoor setting. It's a bit of something for everyone, and it really works. Plato was kind of a snob, when you come right down to it, but even he could find much to like at Hey, Neighbor! I'd bet you will, too. read more

This is a great place to check out when visiting University of Oregon. There were so many options for pizza that we ended up ordering way too much, but it made for great left over and we still wanted to try more! I wish half stars were a thing but between a 4 and 5, Hey Neighbor leans closer to a 5 than a 4 for me. The pizza is really good, thin crust, and tasty toppings. The staff is fantastic, friendly and efficient. Food comes out quickly too. . I had a really good passionfruit, lime, soda water drink and their red sauce is one of my favorites in town. I do wish they were a little more on top of drink refills, especially on a $4 drink, and I wish the toppings were more plentiful at a $2/ea price point for veggies. Even still, it's been a great meal the few times I've had it and I'm happy to go back. They also have sandwiches and salads.
