The staff is all very friendly. Service is relatively fast and the food is good. Only disappointing thing is no ice water :( they have self-serve cold water, but no ice. read more

Pretty sure my last visit to the Bier Stein. Interior still pretty plain and they do still have an extensive selection of canned/bottled beer along one wall. Not a huge beer drinker but I knew they had my Chimay Trappist Grande Reserve that I like. I brought this over to the bar so I could enjoy with a menu item. This was the first time I was asked if I wanted my Chimay in a tulip glass. Of course I do, that's the way it is traditionally served. Next I decided to try their burger. I don't even get a choice as to the degree of doneness that I would like my burger. Well done equals dry and flavorless. The pretzel bun the burger was on was extremely chewy as if it had been microwaved. I opted for cheddar cheese, which brought the price of my burger meal to over $20 for a slightly below mediocre burger. Typical lettuce, tomato, pickle and small slice of onion as a topping. I opted for seasoned fries as the side and they were mediocre as well. Still searching for a truly good burger that is worthy of a $20 price point. read more

Hubby and I went in for a date it's been a little while since we popped in. I knew it was going to be delicious and it was had The Gouddhist was sooooo good we always add bacon. It was a little More saucy this time which I loved and soup on point. Love love it here . Staff is always fun and the decor also funky and cool . Stopped by here on a Sunday night after discovering other restaurants closed early on Sunday for winter hours. They have an extensive can and bottle beer coolers, and a nice selection of draft beers. We opted for their house IPA and lager selections. Everyone liked their beer choices. I ordered the bratwurst with sauerkraut. Brats were ok but really enjoyed the sauerkraut. Two got the beer cheese soup and another a Caesar salad with chicken. The beer cheese soup was good but needed to be a little warmer. My wife enjoyed her salad. They had so much to choose from in the coolers as well. We were going to stay for food, but the menu didn't have anything that peaked my interest. This place is great *if* you're coming just for the beer--especially if you prefer minimal interaction, since they don't have table service. However, I would not recommend coming here for a meal. I used to enjoy the pretzel and some of the other food, but my last few visits have been disappointing. Most recently, the food quality was just bad. My Reuben sandwich had cold meat--seriously, cold meat on a Reuben? And the pretzel was hard and cold, nothing like what I remembered. You can't order drinks through the QR code, which adds to the hassle. We ordered our food via QR code, then had to go inside and wait in line for *over 18 minutes* just to place the order. Then, to make things more confusing, the staff called us to ask if we had placed an order, and we ended up meeting someone outside to get our food--only to find that other people had taken our table while we were essentially doing the job of the servers ourselves. The staff we did interact with were friendly, and surprisingly, the busser was the person we saw the most--twice. It's just strange not to have any dedicated service in a sit-down setting. I still tipped 18%, but honestly, the experience left a lot to be desired. read more

I think it's time to write this review. I've visited Eugene twice and The Bier Stein has made both visits. And it's the small things that make this place so cool: 1. Like a magazine rack with brewer magazines. Am I the only nerd thrilled about this? 2. The little pumpkin stickers to mark pumpkin beers in the coolers. 3. Really cheap Pilsner glasses for sell (sadly mine broke in my luggage on the way home). I would rate the food as moderately better than bar food. Things came out hot and had the flavor of a kitchen that knows what it can do well in a reasonable amount of time. Yay, you made it this far! I went here specifically to try the mac and cheese at the recommendation of my boss. My friends got the chips and guac as well as the mac and cheese, and we only got a small container of guac for a big price. It was good guac, but it wasn't worth the price for sure so we wouldn't get it again. The mac and cheese was good. It was creamy and soupy which is not something I was mad at. It was perfectly cheesy and had a nice layer of breadcrumbs and melted cheese on top. My friends felt it was too soupy, but I enjoyed it and would order it again. The service was pretty good. We got our food quickly and didn't have any problems. It was pretty quiet at the time we went so we got to just look around and take in our surroundings. There was some traditional German decoration along with a wall of fridges with craft beers, which we didn't check out as none of us drink. The bathrooms were clean and easy to find. I was just a passing though the area when I heard there was a cribbage club that meets here. It's a huge beer venue and they had a lot of non alcoholic drinks too! I had the root beer on tap and it was so good! I lost all 4 cribbage games but it was a blast and the venue was overall such a good vibe! On our way to the airport from Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, five of us stopped here for lunch. That was a great decision!!! This place is amazing and it appears to be a local favorite. The service was very good, the beer selection awesome and the food was top notch. My Mac and Cheese topped with grilled bratwurst was excellent. My friend's meatloaf sandwich was delicious (he shared a bit with me) and my other friend's bratwurst with sauerkraut appetizer was yummy. Food quality used to be way way better but that's not even my biggest complaint. THEY CHARGE YOU FOR KETCHUP. They charge you for every sauce including ketchup? What place charges for ketchup? An $18 mediocre entree and you're charging for ketchup? You bring me one half of a chicken tender in a $16 dish and I complain and you guys freak out? Spot for old rich people they don't value the younger community whatsoever or affordability. When I go with my dad they treat me way better than if I go alone. Typical for a brewery but really disappointing to watch their quality dive down so hard in the last 3 years. They'll probably pay to delete this review anyways. To the one bier stein employee reading this fix something because your current operation is pathetic and insulting. The food at the Bier Stein is ON POINT! I'm not a beer drinker so when my friends recommended it I didn't have my hopes up but WOW! Everything is homemade...even down to the dipping sauces. The chicken tenders & fries were amazing and the clam chowder stole the show! Ambiance is really cool. Lots to do with sports on the TV's, pool tables and an array of board games! The only thing that wasn't to my liking is the soda is sold by the can. I'm a refill guy and don't ever like the soda by the can places. But otherwise the place is EXCELLENT! read more

Stopped here before a football game and really enjoyed the food. I tried the burger on a pretzel bun with bacon jam and for me was one of the best burgers from a bar I have had. The portions were good for the price. They have a lot of beer to choose from and have a to go beer case as well. It is a fun atmosphere and perfect for game day. read more

We love the Bier Stein, up until today. We ordered the HH nachos (which is a fav), completely different presentation. We're use to the plated version which is high, and good layering. Today we received (recent price hike) about half the amount and served in a metal tray with paper underneath. This place has Russian River Pliny the Elder on tap often. For that alone they get 5 stars.

Recently they changed their menu and I had to jump on here and review their new iteration of their nachos. I had the happy hour version which no longer comes with sour cream jalapeño sauce or guacamole. They no longer melt cheddar on the nachos instead they just pour their beer cheese sauce on it. The size has greatly diminished as well. The addition of the beer cheese sauce caused the delicious house made chips to be soggy. In addition, the sauce was cold. They added black beans which gave it a little more substance. Overall, I am disappointed and will not be ordering those again. Why go through all the effort to house make chips if you are just going to douse it with cold beer cheese soup ? Same great service so, hence the 3 stars. read more
