It's not just what you do, but how you do it. Hopvally makes great brews of different types, and they run a great tap room. I can't get their beer where I live anymore, so I picked up my brother in law and we took a long trip, the Springfield tap room was our first stop. I called ahead & talked with Randi, the general manager. When we arrived, they had my favorite Hopvalley IPA on tap as she promised. We were greeted with smiles and a handshake on our arrival. Just like the beer, the food was top quality. Made of fresh ingredients and came out quick and hot. The onion rings for our appetizer were some of the best I have ever had. The Alphadelic IPA on draft was excellent, well worth the long drive for our first round. Our dinners were well cooked and presented, me a cob salad and my brother a BLTA. He switched up to a gin & tonic (made perfectly), and I had a Cryostash for my second round, can't be beat. The service is the punch line, this is the how you do it part. Excellent all night. This was a Saturday evening, the tap room was packed. All the staff were working hard and moving fast. But the key was, they all had smiles on their faces. The took time to talk and listen to every customer, including us. This does not happen by accident, it happens by prioritizing creating a great customer experience, but ultimately comes from people truly caring about what they are doing and how they are doing their job. We had a great time the entire evening, could not have been better, but it was. They gave me a very gracious present for coming from a long distance. I mention this only to illustrate the caring that I am pointing to. We already had the best evening of our trip, and that last gesture comes from the heart. They did not need to do anything like that, and they did. It came from the general manager and all the staff with a hand signed card. This restores one's belief in simple kindness. If I was local, I would be a regular. These people no only put out great product and excellent service, but they genuinely care, and it shows in how they do their work. Came in on a quiet Friday afternoon before a Duck game. Got The Big Kahuna Burger with fries. Eugene ain't cheap nor is anything west of central time. But, they don't inform you about a hidden charge of sharing a plate. $1.50 charge for a split plate. Guessing that's the cost of one dish getting washed. I'd hate to ask for a new fork. We've dining here since 2009. A lot of changes have happened over the years, mostly not good. Generally Hop Valley has steered a reliable course but in the early 2001 it was close to bottom. Fortunately, the management and chef have changed and we enjoyed tonight's dinner very much. The clam chowder was excellent,, smoked gouda mac&cheese with bacon and broccoli will be a go-to dish next time, and the French dip also scored high with us. The food was mediocre but acceptable--nothing terrible, but nothing that really stood out or made me eager to come back. Unfortunately, the saddest part of the entire experience had nothing to do with the food. While we were eating, I watched a young delivery driver repeatedly climb multiple flights of stairs carrying a handcart loaded with food. As time went on, he looked more and more exhausted and defeated. I honestly felt terrible watching him struggle just to deliver food to the restaurant. I couldn't help but wonder: why is a profitable restaurant putting its delivery drivers through this? If the restaurant operates on a second or even third floor, shouldn't there be a reasonable way for employees to get deliveries in and out without making someone haul a heavy handcart up and down multiple flights of stairs? It really took away from the experience. It's hard to sit there and enjoy your meal while watching someone work that hard under what seems like an entirely avoidable situation. The food was acceptable, but the way the delivery driver was treated was by far the most memorable part of the visit--and unfortunately, not in a good way. Hopefully management takes a serious look at how they handle deliveries and the physical demands they place on their drivers. read more

Would had liked a little more sauerkraut and more even distribution of meat in the sandwich (it was piled up in the middle), but the beer braise was a nice touch on the Pastrami and everything else about it was fantastic! 5 stars! We were staying next door and walked over for a bite and drink. When we walked in we noticed the environment isn't too inviting, very dark and cold. We normly sit at the bar anyways so we had a seat in their handful of bar tables. The service was very good, the bartender was attentive, recommended beers and brought over tasters. We ordered mozzarella sticks off the happy hour menu and a couple of burgers, one with garlic fries and one with sweet potato waffle fries. The mozzarella sticks were $9 and while large, there were only 3 of them so pretty expensive for the portion. They were good but not worth the money. The burgers and fries were all solid, both fries were crispy and tasty. Overall it wasn't a bad visit, but the environment just isn't comfortable or inviting. Generally this place is pretty good. Yesterday we stopped in for a late lunch. I had the frickles and then the fish n chips (a lot of fried food right). Normally no problem but half way through my entree I couldn't taste the fish anymore but all I could taste was an old used oil taste that lasted in my mouth the rest of the day... I actually turned sick later in the evening and had nothing else to eat for the day before or after that. The beer was good as always and my fiancés burger was good but something was not good with the fried food. Just had that over used old oil taste...Do you know what I'm talking about. I went by Hop Valley last night since I'm traveling for work and was staying in the nearby Courtyard Marriott. I was so pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here! My Chicken Cobb Salad was huge and just what I was craving. My server was lovely and she was super on it the entire time I was there. Ah, Hop Valley. Beer that tastes like the nectar of the gods made with hops that glisten with gold. Their beer cheese soup is always a must and required appetizer. This location has some limited seating in comparison to the other location but has a quick turn around on food and attentive staff. Do to being located so close to serval hotels there is great convenience for a good beer and food when traveling. Wife and I come here often and have yet to have any issues. I have had two beers that I have really enjoyed from Hop Valley recently. The first one was their Light Me Up Lager. A clean, sweet and hoppy lager. Very drinkable! It's similar to what the big corporate breweries have along the lines of a Coors Light. But the craft beer version of this beer is always better and this excellent, lager easily passes that test with ease. The next beer I enjoyed was their Stash Panda. This is an IPA with heavy emphasis on tropical and grapefruit flavor specifically along with bitterness and hopiness. A very good IPA. I can't say for sure but I believe this is my first beer experience with Hop Valley and I must say I'm impressed! read more

Really enjoyed my lunch visit to Hop Valley. I ordered the four street tacos with chicken and it comes with a side of chips and salsa. It was ample food and most of the entrees are very large. My table also got the loaded fries with BBQ on them. The tacos were very good and I really liked the chicken ones not too spicy. We were in town to visit family and walked over to Hop Valley from our hotel for dinner. Michaela gave us such amazing service, and the food was so delicious, that we ended up coming back for a second dinner with my sister's family! A great place to have a good dinner, good beer, and a good time. Michaela was our server again (lucky us!) and was so attentive and helpful. I'm not a big beer drinker but she helped me try a couple samples and find something that suited me (Citrus Mistress, and Stash Panda, both excellent). Burger with pineapple was GOOD, and homemade potato chips. My husband raved about the chicken wings, which are brined, smoked, then fried. We tried Buffalo the first night and BBQ the next, both good (but if you like spicy, go for those buffalo wings!) Portions were generous, and kids food was good too. My son said it was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches he's had. There are a couple of TV's in the dining room, but the volume of the music etc was great, not too loud, so we could chat as a family. The only things we didn't like were the garlic on the garlic ties tasted artificial almost. Kinda icky, but the fries themselves were good. Next time I will get them without the flavor. And the fish on my salmon salad was very dry. Seemed frozen and a bit fishy. Other than that, everything was great. The frickles were to DIE for. Would order those 1000 times over. The french dip was good but almost had too much cheese melted on it. Otherwise the flavor was great and the sauce was perfect. The onion rings were mostly good too but had too much batter. This was my first time at this Hop Valley location. It was Saturday night, but they had some open spots. They have an outdoor patio with several tables and the bar has first-come first-served seating. The bar has the standard stool top seating and about 10 regular tables, and 2 TVs. The mozzarella sticks were excellent! But eat quickly before they cool down. We both had burgers and they were cooked perfectly and tasty but messier then I like. The garlic fries had a lot of raw garlic which was great, if you don't mind raw. The mozzarella mashed potatoes were a little bland, but use the extra raw garlic. There are 10+ beers on tap, though I didn't try one this visit. I've heard good things. They also have homebrewed root beer that's really good and not too sweet. read more

We found this place completely by accident during our first week in Eugene. It was pouring out with poor visibility and we were driving a terrible rental car, jet lagged and TIRED. We wanted something easy and reasonably good that we could just pick up and bring home. We saw their sign across the parking lot from Best Buy, checked them out on Yelp, as ya do, and called in an order. Our food was ready in 15 minutes -- delicious shepherd's pie and local IPA.
