Really great fresh food with some interesting combinations. We came here on a whim (no reservations) while visiting my wife's niece at UofO at around noon on a Saturday. Busy but they had a table for us. Very nice decor, rotating menu. We had the buckwheat pancakes with caramelized bananas, dates, and pineapple syrup which was sweet but not overly so since the pancakes underneath were not touched by the syrup ended up being a really nice balance. Bacon was like a cross between pork belly and bacon (very thick) but really tasty. Breakfast Sando was good with in-house ground pork and a nice aioli. We also tried the savory macarons (Brie and truffle) which are delicious. Creamy and a tad sweet. Not too much truffle. Coffee was a bright tangy pour over-not my favorite type but some people really like that style. Oh, and we had a blood orange mimosa which was really good Overall an excellent experience! What a delightful and terrific restaurant. The décor is certainly whimsical (is the airstream trailer necessary?) but the connected cocktail bar serves as the perfect waiting room and the service is truly excellent. Our food was beautifully prepared, the drinks were outstanding, the menu was thoughtfully laid out, and all of the staff were kind, helpful, and fun. The house rolls are excellent. Our waiter just about clutched his pearls when I asked for Stevia. The ambience reminded us of small tourist-free boutique eateries in NYC. Tried this for a late breakfast and really enjoyed. In the heart of Downtown Eugene. Had the sausage,egg and cheese breakfast sandwich. Included the potatoes as well. Also shared the spiced coffee cake with the wife. The coffee cake was very good and had fresh Huckleberry's on top. The breakfast sandwich was very good as well. The sausage was excellent and the eggs were perfect. The potatoes are definitely a must try, they had a slightly spicy and smoked seasoning on them. Absolutely delicious! Super cute restaurant in Eugene! We didn't realize it was a farm-to-table concept until we got there, but wow! The food was outstanding. The homemade sausage was full of flavor, the Bloody Marys were fantastic, and the pancakes were so good. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. Tip: Definitely make reservations if you want to sit on the "restaurant" side. We didn't have one but showed up right when they opened on a Sunday. There was already a line, but they were able to seat us on the "lounge" side, which still had a nice atmosphere. Service was a bit slow -- our server gave us a heads-up that food comes out as it's prepared, which we appreciated, but it took close to an hour for all four meals to arrive. The lion and owl has been one of my favorite restaurants until now. I stopped in, thinking I'd have a scrumdiddlyumptious burger and fries. The burger was thick, the meat decent, but it was about the diameter of something you cook as a breakfast sausage patty. It had minimal sauce on it and an almost charred bun. The flavors were good, but it just didn't hit the spot. They also have steak fries, which are my least favorite. And I decided I needed a little bit more ketchup, I got that, and was surprised to find an extra charge on my check. And it was sure a small amount of ketchup in the first place! And then there's the staff. When I was first seated, I was located right under an air-conditioning unit and was chilly. I asked to be relocated because it seemed too cold and the person who responded shrugged as if to say "what's the matter with you? Sure find another table." Then gestured to another table, but I had to carry my own silverware and water, which is something I usually find servers immediately do for you. I experienced a less than exceptional experience there and found that surprising. read more

My first visit was on Father's Day, I made a reservation and waitlisted myself looking for the possible seating. I was offered a seat at the bar in the back lounge area. It was also graduation weekend so there was a large table of folk celebrating. Lounge felt elegant and I would definitely recommend it (except to vegan friends who will undoubtedly find the life size taxidermy giraffe head plus neck very disturbing). Barkeeper Eddie was busy and attentive. Decided to order a half ounce of caviar because I noticed an order of it walking by to another table on my way in. Love how it was presented and discovered the thicker crème fraîche was really wonderful with the finely chopped fresh chives and the house made waffle chips. They created the perfect space for salty delicious pop of the Ostera eggs. The buckwheat pancakes arrived truly beautifully presented with generous dollops of whipped to goat cheese. The rhubarb counter points to the pancakes had been prepared three different ways. This dish elevates all pancake-kind. If you prefer lighter syrup, you might want to ask for the syrup on the side. I also requested two soft scrambled eggs on the side; they arrived warm with a sprinkling of kosher or sea salt and paprika. They are a comfort food for me so I was delighted by how skillfully prepared they were. I returned a second time bringing a food-loving friend who is visiting from out of the country. We just decided to have coffee and desserts. The lemon mousse like dessert was beautifully presented but a less lemony than desired for my friend. The butter cake had a nice flavor. We enjoyed sitting on the green velvet couch, and appreciated the magnifying glass that was offered along side the menu so reading would be a little easier. It's also women-owned with a chef who is a James Beard Award nominee. Yes, that's a genuine Airstream inside - serving as the bar. Beautifully designed space with a "plant wall" in back. I thought these might be too sweet, but the earthiness of the buckwheat really kept things in balance. Fresh raspberry jam, whipped lime cream cheese, almond crumb & mint syrup, wow! Had a fantastic lunch today at Lion and Owl. We were greeted as we walked in and quickly seated. Since this was our first time, the server explained their seasonal menu and that it was just updated two weeks ago. I love a farm to table experience! We went with his suggestion for the Heirloom Tomato salad (which was bursting with different layers of flavor) and a hamburger. The hamburger was big and vey juicy. I love the vibe of the atmosphere-air stream bar inside the restaurant, cute wallpaper and dried flowers on each table. Their house Pinot Noir was also excellent. A delightful, friendly, brunch spot perfect on any day that ends in a y. A visit to PDX wasn't going to be complete without stopping by this area to see a childhood friend. She made the reservation as we drove over from Portland in the morning. We got there just as soon as the munchies kicked in. My friend dines here often so she didn't even have to look at the menu. As there was four of us, we decided to share a bunch of items. One of the best food experiences my fiancé and I have ever had. We tried three different items: the Porto, breakfast sando, and the buckwheat pancakes. The buckwheat pancakes have caramelized bananas, dates rolled in brown butter salt, coconut creme, and a pineapple syrup. The breakfast sandwich has an awesome harissa aioli, and phenomenal potatoes on the side. Our favorite part, by far, was the Porto sandwich. Portobello mushrooms, with pesto and goat cheese on sourdough. Easily one of the best food items we have ever had in our life. If you go for brunch definitely get the Porto. Phenomenal. The inside has wonderful ambiance, lots of natural light and very personal. Our family walked in to be seated at 10:35 am on Saturday and we were told we would wait 45 min to an hour. We had no issue with waiting since we really wanted to try their food. She told us we would receive a text message when they are ready for us. We waited for an hour and a half and had not received a text message. We walked back over to check in on the status of our seating. We walked up to the hostess to kindly ask where we were on the list and she was very dismissive to us. She checked the iPad to see where we were on the list and then took a phone call for 5 minutes in front of us with no answer to our question and then proceeded to seat others in front of us without acknowledging our question. She came back over to the hostess table and then checked the iPad and still did not give us a response. After waiting for close to 10 minutes of standing there, we decided to leave. We understand busy times and schedules but the hostess was very rude and dismissive and made sure to make us feel unwelcomed. Very disappointed. read more

What a great brunch spot in downtown Eugene. We stopped here twice this past weekend, on our way to and from Crater Lake. Both times we had excellent service and delicious dishes. Food was very flavorful, and the taste combinations are very thought out. I came for dinner with my parents for a road trip coming back to California from Canada. However, the service was extremely slow, and the restaurant was obviously understaffed. We waited around 30min for our entrées. Additionally, for how big the portions looked for breakfast the dinner portion sizes did not live up to the expectations. The albacore tuna was only three slices of meat, and the steak was very small too for $35!! The taste combos were good but with the wait and small portion sizes, I would say it is definitely not worth it. read more

I started off with the iced caffe pacori hazelnut latte. Great coffee and taste, I would rate it an 8/10. My friend and I split the Breakfast Sando and the Buckwheat Pancakes. A little savory and sweet is my favorite pairing. Wow the breakfast sando was bursting with flavor! Fluffy egg, hearty breakfast sausage, flaky bread, and a perfect chipotle sauce to go with. It feels like a great place for a celebratory meal. I had the shaved foie toast and the field greens salad. The salad was overpriced, at $10 I would've liked something in the salad besides chicories. Throw me a few nuts, seeds, or berries, please! The foie "toast" was something I would drive out of my way to eat again. It's a piece of fresh brioche, topped with shaved foie gras, crushed hazelnuts, and drops of house-made Marionberry jam. You eat it with a sharp knife and fork. I was expecting it to be rich, and it was, but I didn't understand at first. After a few bites I realized, this is basically a riff on peanut butter and jelly, and oh my gosh it is good. My compliments to the chef. The crunchy nuts were a genius addition, and I loved that I could still taste the foie, so everything was perfectly balanced. read more

The interior was fun with a truck inside the restaurant that has the bar and some seating. I tried the menemen which sounded like shakshuka which I love. The menemen was super flavorful!
