My friend and I went to The Houndstooth for drinks and dinner and had a fabulous time. We split the dinner special which was a Hawaiian Plate for 19 dollars. It started out with a large salad of beets and cucumbers, carrots on mesclan mix. The salad alone was enough for 2 people to enjoy. The entree of babyback ribs over basmati rice and macaroni salad was amazing! OMG! We ate and ate and ate and had enough leftover to get a to go box. Rough around the edges this sports bar is definitely not for everyone.. little bit dirty a little but sketchy. We stopped by because of the Yelp reviews. The service at the bar was a bit rude and the food was mediocre. I asked for a Food suggestion the bartender said the wings were amazing nice and meaty. The wings were not amazing they were skinny little baby wings. They had a handful of sauces you could choose. We tried a BBQ sauce and a really hot habanero sauce. I've been a regular for awhile and have been watching it go downhill but today I ordered a singular taco and waited OVER FORTY MINUTES. During those 40 minutes two small to go boxes, a burger and an order of a few wings came out. I asked if I could get a discount because my single taco took FORTY MINUTES and the bartender goes "sorry we're busy". There was barely anybody in there. read more

I was looking forward to going here with all the great reviews. When I entered their parking lot it was like a homeless camp with people rummaging through the dumpster. No way did I want my car parked there so I parked on the street. When we entered the Open Mic night was very loud so we sat way in back. It was still very loud for normal conversations. When we went up to the bar we asked for a beer sample and Melissa had a frown on her face and was extremely rude and unfriendly when asked any questions. We were later confronted by a worker about a conversation we had. What happened to our first amendment? Make sure you don't talk politics at that venue. I came in here recently with a friend for lunch, and greatly looking forward to it as I've heard really good things about the food! On a weekday during lunch time, the place was pretty dead- just the way we like it, lol. My friend and I hadn't seen each other in a while and knew we had a lot of talking to do, so we didn't feel too bad about monopolizing a table for several hours when there were plenty open. Houndstooth has that dark pub feel. A few windows stream in light but, otherwise, it's easy to not know the time of day while inside. There's TVs, a Golden Tee game, I think I spotted so pool tables on the other side maybe? Definitely a chill place to hang out in any form. Now for the food: The BB King burger was bomb! I'm a sucker for blue cheese on any burger. The fries weren't anything special. I did opt for "regular" fries and not the Cajun ones since I wanted to save a few to take back to my daughter. Maybe they would have been more exciting with the added spice! I really want to go back and try their Caesar salad after reading more reviews. Sounds like a hit. read more

I can't even believe how good the food is here, they could easily just be a restaurant. 10/10 would recommend. We have a circuit of places we go to when we are in Eugene. Izumi, Sabai, Osteria DOP, Bar Purlieu, Sweet Life and Houndstooth are the usual suspects. This place is just the best bar food I've ever had anywhere not just Eugene. Tried it based on the reviews and was really happy with the quality of the food and prices. The food was fantastic for a bar. It's clear they make an effort to deliver fresh from scratch food. The onion rings are clearly made in house which was a shock. They were fantastic. The chicken wings were also large in size and well fried and flavored with a traditional homemade Buffalo Sauce. The side salad was as large as a regular salad and came with nicely balanced blue cheese dressing also clearly made in house. The only negative comment about the food is more service related. The tater tots came out hot while everything else was just warm. So clearly timing was off in kitchen while waiting for the tots to deep fry. The burgers were also well done and a bit dry; we had ordered them medium. Drinks were well poured and priced very very well. Service was a bit slow and they were seemingly a bit overwhelmed. In the post Covid era, I appreciate they are probably facing staffing issues like everywhere so I'm letting it go as attention to other detail was clearly there. This is a 5* place but gave them 4* until they can address the service related problems. If Yelp allowed for half stars, I'd have given 4.5 for quality of food, pours and the really reasonable prices. read more

Liliana was tending bar and was so great! The first bartender was just so-so. I got chicken tenders and they were some of the best I've had. Really good food here and the drinks are good too. I am a musician, and I love hearing other musicians share their music. This Monday, Nov. 1, 2025, was an open mic at the Houndstooth. I went there for the first time, with two friends. We walked up to the bar to order beer. The person who waited on us was extremely rude and she seemed like it was asking too much for me to order a beer. I have never experienced such an unfriendly, rude attitude like this before, anywhere I have been. It was very chilling. I was shocked. She was rude to all three of us. She plopped down the beer with seeming contempt. Her negative energy ruined the whole atmosphere. My one friend asked her name. It's Melissa. We had to chose a table as far away from the music stage as we could, because the open mic music was so loud we couldn't hear ourselves. Moving further away didn't help much. We made the best of it, and managed to have a conversation, although it was a real challenge. After we were there for a while, a young guy and woman started playing darts next to our table. I began to notice that the woman was standing so close to me that she could have sat at the table. I wondered why, but didn't give it much more thought. Eventually they left, then the other waitress came to our table and told us that someone had reported us because they overheard us talking about Fascism! She said the person(s) who reported us were so upset they had to leave, and she told us we would have to leave! During the conversation that the young woman was apparently trying to hear, we had been lamenting about way the world seems to be going... The person who reported us THOUGHT she knew what we were talking about. The waitress accused us based on totally false information. A totally private, innocent conversation! No one else was anywhere near us but the two people playing darts. That was extremely violating. Since when is it the law that adults can only have a private conversation on pre-approved subjects? It seems ironic that we were asked to leave because someone felt "unsafe" because of our conversation, when to me, this whole event felt like we were in some other country, being interrogated! This made the already unpleasant atmosphere feel more like a nightmare. Unless other, friendlier people work there on other days, I can't imagine how anyone would ever want to go there. I have to say, I will never step foot in that place again. read more

We were passing thru the area and took a slight detour to eat here based on the reviews. Onion rings were amazing! They came with a dipping sauce that's as great. I had the mushroom burger. While it was slightly over cooked, it still tasted damn good and was worth the detour. The smoked roast beef sandwich with onions was tasty and the fries regular and spicy were awesome. We've been here three times, for three separate Oregon football games. It's always good. The location, the building, and even the interior is a bit unassuming. But the service and food is consistently top shelf. The food is definitely a hit with all of us. The weird thing is that this place has never been busy when we've gone. I dont know why. It's a good thing for us because Eugene, either a bit before the game or a bit after the game, can be very crazy busy at bar and grills. Give this place a try. The food is great. stopped in here pretty late after a concert just looking to get something to eat. it was a wednesday night, they had karaoke going (which i'm always a fan of, even if i'm not singing!) very much what you would expect from a dive bar, nothing particularly eye catching or noteworthy as far as decor and atmosphere go. service was friendly, it wasn't very busy so we were able to sit in the back away from all the noise, and no complaints on the food. my friend and i both got burgers and tots, the tots were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. burgers were good and i was especially happy to be having one since i was worried i would be limited to fast food or fried bar food since it was so late. read more

After our eight hour drive from the Bay Area to Eugene we were invited out to dinner by our friend. It was a Friday and apparently the Friday Night Specials are not to be missed no matter what is on the menu. Not one to argue about the promise of good food, we went along. Its a sports bar for sure. Service is excellent. All of the staff couldn't be nicer and friendly and accommodating. There is a ton of seating. They have a nice area outside to sit and enjoy an adult beverage and smoke as one should feel so inclined to do. Lets talk about the food. As I sat at the tall table looking at the meals that were presented to us, I couldn't believe my eyes. The special for the night was the Lasagna with garlic bread. I ordered a Cesar Salad and a side of Chicharrones. I ate my food and looked around. What I couldn't believe was I was sitting in what looks like a regular sports bar eating some of the most incredible food I'd ever eaten. It didn't seem real to me. This is more than five star food. Don't believe me? Look at the photos I took with my good camera. The food is not only good but photogenic. Rumor has it from locals we hung out with, there is nothing bad on the menu. I believe them 100%! If you are in Eugene or driving through Eugene come here for food or a pint. Apparently the owner has a very good selection of on tap beers that he curates and rotates regularly. Its incredible food and incredible service. We met the owner and he is not playing games when it comes to his restaurant. Everyone needs to support this location. Ordered takeout on a Sunday for lunch. The order took a while once placed. Everything looked burnt the fries, chicken strips, wings all very dark in color but they all tasted good! The bummer about the fries and tots is that they automatically come with a spicy seasoning on them, not sure if you can ask for them without. The Caesar salad was good but the amount of chicken it came with was a little lacking and it came with a soft cooked egg that felt a little random. I don't think any of us were blown away but also not opposed to grabbing some lunch again either. read more

The cheddar jalapeño biscuit pulled pork sliders aka Rusty Sliders were fantastic! I especially loved the biscuits. Paired with chicharrones that were still crackling and a refreshing paloma. Tried the 6th street salad with chicken as well, and it was impressive. There was no generic iceberg lettuce here, and the homemade ranch was delicious. The service was excellent. This is a totally hidden gem! We've now been five or six times and each time we love it just a little bit more. It's more of a pub atmosphere and there's a real chef that actually cares about food. Most nights there is a special, from pork chops with an apricot glaze and potatoes, to tonight's prime rib with homemade mashed potatoes, The regular menu has items from burgers to crabcake Poboy's, to Caesar salads and sandwiches. Everything is made from scratch, they even make all of their dressings in house. On top of that, they make awesome beverages and they have memorized our usual drink order after only the first trip! Outstanding service to boot. Of note: there are Pool tables to one side, lottery in a back room, two separate outdoor areas, some occasional karaoke nights. Took my Admin staff to lunch here thinking it was a restaurant; it was a bar with food service BUT the food was excellent. Everyone raved over their food despite the poor chef being inundated with 6 orders at once. He's a bar chef not a restaurant chef, but he produced great food. These types of specials are available every Friday night( the only night we tend to go). On the last Friday of the month it's prime rib night. It's also ridiculously affordable, less than $25 for a huge slice, garlic mash potatoes, grilled garlic bread, and a house salad with all in house made dressings. Make no mistake it's your neighborhood dive. Good classic cocktails, beer, and low light. The staff is friendly but does make fun of you, joke arounds, and I have seen them step inwhen needed. A lot of people pass by this place everyday and I'm sad for them. Everything on the menu is delicious. The Thursday and Sunday Royale with Cheese are 2 for 6 bucks and incredibly seasoned to perfection. Good lord they are excellent. The chicharrones are still crackling when they hit the table. one order is enough for 3 large land mammals like us that had them today. I think I've eaten over a 100 of them the last year or so. The burgers, salads, sandwiches, all of it, is off the chain. But dude, the smoked then fried wings? I'll just leave it at that to be simple. Stop in and give it a try.
