Stand out dishes have to include the beet fritters, flatbread and toum, and frikkadella. The burgers were great as well, with a nice cook on them and delicious mushroom and bacon jam! It's a casual but pleasant atmosphere, clean and comfy to sit in and enjoy a beer. They have a selection of mead and cocktails if you prefer. I liked the ambience of this spot. Cool lights and the open beams with wood accents felt like either a small village or a on a Viking ship. We went on a Saturday night, not crowded at all. The menu selection was good but not many options if you are gluten free. We did get a smorgasbord and I picked options that were gluten free and my friend had regular non gluten options. She liked it. I did enjoy their mock tail options. I'm sure it's a fun spot when the weather is warm as they had outdoor seating. I gave it 4 stars only due to the limited gluten free option. Pillage Responsibility... engraved on the side of the mead flight. That was how the meal started and it only got better. The meads were fantastic! As a mead maker myself, i was impressed by the different tastes. If you like creativity in your food, this is the place for you! I got the small smorgasbord (basically pick 3 items from the small plates). I chose the smoked sausage, the beet colored jammy egg, and the cucumber salad. Yumm! I love this place! The restaurant is very clean, and has a couple choices for ambiance. If you want more space and less noise reserve a table in the back room. The cocktails are yummy and unique. The food is all good! I would say some of the prices seem a bit high for what you get, but I can also say that everything I've had has been very very tasty. I love the smorgasbords board options. First time visiting this establishment. Nice clean interior plus they have an outdoor area as well. I bellied up to the bar and told the bartender what type of beer I preferred. He suggested two draft beers that he thought I would like. He immediately brought me a sample of each. I chose the Mountain Mexican Lager - I'm not a big beer drinker but this was better than Modelo Especial which I like. I ordered the pretzel for a nosh to complement the beer. When the pretzel arrived, it had more small oil beads than salt on the top. It was also very, very chewy but had a great flavor. It came with a cheese sauce, some great mustard sauce, and very, very, very thinly sliced pepperoncini-, which I loved. Next time I'm going to request that they don't heat the pretzel up so much. I was there mid afternoon during the weekday. There were only a few other people in there, but I am definitely returning when I have a bigger appetite to try more of their menu and to get another one of those delicious mountain Mexican beers. read more

The Bangers and Mash was good as was the libations. Service was friendly but definitely lacking (there weren't that many tables occupied when we visited for lunch). Was not asked if I wanted or my wife wanted a refill on anything, which is a pet peeve of mine and hers. I was looking at the menu online and an item stood out to me -- the Lamm burger, described as "a lamb patty, sweet pepper romesco and feta aioli, red onion & arugala" with meat from Long's on a brioche bun w/ seasoned fries ($17). I appreciate different-style burgers that don't rely on cheese and bacon, so I called in the order and they had it finished pretty quick. All in all it was a delicious burger, cooked perfectly with great flavors. However it was somewhat overshadowed by...THE FRIES. Oh my heavens. These aren't your average fries. These are thicc pillowy potato sticks, beautifully seasoned and amazing in texture. Every bite was perfect. Honestly I couldn't stop eating them, they were that good. And they gave a very generous serving. I even enjoyed some cold out of the fridge the next day. Seriously, these fries are magical and you need them in your life. Also the decor inside of the restaurant was cool. Some high-top tables were enclosed in these Viking-inspired wooden structures which added a little extra privacy. The more I stop in, the more I love Viking Braggot. We got a chance to come back in to try more of their menu and ended up ordering the burger since it was part of their $13 burger and brew Tuesday special. The burger was really tasty--they make their own brioche bun with caraway seeds which is unique and super tasty. I have zero complains about the burger and recommend adding the goat cheese spread to it. The steak fries that came with it were well-seasoned and crispy in the best way. We also tried one of their rotating ice creams, a house-made vanilla cream soda ice cream with lingonberry swirl. It was as good as it sounds. They do rotate flavors, so be sure to save room to try their homemade ice cream. As always, beer was interesting and--you guessed it--tasty. They had a seasonal spiced ale which I really enjoyed, and their Battle Axe IPA is great. Definitely come in to support this great local brewery! read more

The food here is good, definitely something a little different (for me!) than the norm. I'm not a big alcohol fan, so that was a miss for me, but my brother enjoyed the alcoholic lemonade and the variety of meads. Their kale salad is one of the best kale salads I have ever had, and I will absolutely be back for it. My partner and I loved the smorgasbord, with the flatbread and loum, meatballs, and sausage! Everything was tasty, and worth the price. Getting to try all the different sauces was fun, too. We had several types of pizza, burgers, brusel sprouts, soup n' salad, cauliflower steak and everyone raved about how good their meal was. The carrot cake for desert was fabulous too. All around an excellent dinner experience for an out of town mini family wedding reunion and we're happy we chose this restaurant that took reservations for a large group. I was here before and liked it and then it looks like they did a few upgrades which made it all that much better and they keep it spotless and clean throughout with the bar wiped down and the floor swept up and The Viking Braggot - Southtowne Pub would be a perfect place to bring friends and family from out of town. Their menu is Scandinavian inspired which is adds nice addition to the Eugene area. I had the Scandi Wrap with the seasoned fries which was out of this world delicious and their beer list is certainly creative. I went for the Battle Axe IPA which was bold with a slight sweetness to it and I found it to be delicious. I see they have pizza which I cant wait to get back there to try out. read more

This place is part of the Eugene beer trail and made for a unique stop off. It sounded the most interesting out of all the places on the list as it consisted of braggots (fermented drink similar to mead) and has a Viking theme. We made the decision to definitely check it out when we realized they have bar bingo available on a Friday evening (do note they are taking the summer off). The bar itself is quite large, consisting of two separate rooms with lots of seating (I was there nearly half an hour before I realized the 2nd one existed) and an outdoor patio area in the middle. As a current lover of the show Vikings, I was excited to see info about Ragnar Lothbrock on the wall and enjoyed the rest of the Viking decor. I sampled a few beers and really couldn't tell that they tasted any different than traditional styles of beer, not to imply that they were not good, just that the differences escaped me . However I did love my garlic knots and was so excited when they were willing to sub daiya for the Parmesan cheese. I wish I would have got the full order to snack on rather than the half. Staff behind the bar and in the kitchen were exceptional. What made the night a lot of fun was the bar bingo. The hosts were very into it and had been doing it for many, many weeks in a row. The prizes were a good mix of odd things nobody wants and things of value. Definitely makes for a fun night if you are tired of just sitting in bars doing nothing. I've been here a handful of times and I think I've tried all the vegetarian items by now. This place is a winner. The chef cares about flavors and textures and menu items are creative. Who knew that sauerkraut and beet fritters would taste like horseradish (in a good way)? Who knew that pure garlic could be whipped up into a fluffy paste with the texture of yoghurt? Mushroom gravy that veg-heads can eat, mushroom fritters with pickles, several salads that are all interesting in their own way (no boring lettuce piles, phew), fresh ingredients in everything--but my absolute favorite is the carrots with skyr, honey, pistachios, thyme sprigs. Akvavit is not really my thing, I discovered, despite liking the flavor of caraway. But if you like akvavit, you can get flights of it here and all kinds of interesting varieties. The real fun is the mead. It's sweet, like a dessert wine, so a little goes a long way. Comes in a little crystal glass (um cute). They also have a lot of beers and braggots (honey beer), true to the name. And finally: they have outdoor seating in summer AND the tableware is all made locally by Alli (Greenbird Mountain), who teaches classes over at Clayspace. Logging this as a new fave. read more

I've been here a handful of times, and haven't been disappointed so far! The staff have always been friendly, and the food is great. My favorite menu item is the smorgasboard, which allows you to pick your own plate with 3 - 5 small portions from a number of items. I usually get the frikadeller (Danish meatballs) which are tasty and also come in a cute little mini cast iron pan. The mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy are also great, and I also enjoy their seasonal green salads. The beers are good, too, they always have a big selection on tap. Bingo and trivia nights are fun too. My only complaint is it's often pretty crowded, but they also have a ton of both indoor and outdoor (heated in the winter) seating, so it always works out. read more

Upfront, I must state that this is one of my favorite places run by some of my favorite people. During the quarantine period, they have upped their game considerably! These folks have been open here in South Eugene for just over a couple of years. When they opened (like Bier Stein), the acoustics inside were intolerable, but they fixed that in a hurry. (That's my audio junkie take.) Their draft offerings were just a little 'strange' for beer drinkers, but most of us got over that (see the "Battleaxe IPA," made from wildflower honey). It's braggot, which has some close ties to mead. Look it up. (That's my beer take.) They do all kinds of "Viking" related stuff (including trivia nights and reminding patrons to "pillage responsibly") and -- during the early days of the pandemic-- devoted Brownian down time (a good thing) to grooving out the interior of the pub. Their food, in the old days, could have been dubbed "uneven." Now, the food is the thing. This here pizza (see photo - the sauce is mushroom-based) is astoundingly delicious. We had some sampler plates a few week back that kicked all kinds of butt. We're heading into this nuclear winter, and places like this are worthy of our support. read more

Told my server that it was ridiculous that they expected me to eat the burger in this manner and told them to take it away. Server said she would get the manager but only returned with a bill for my beer. I paid for my beer as nobody attempted to rectify the situation and I left proclaiming that I will not return and I was told that viking brewing didn't want me back. We were so pleasantly surprised with this place! Our usual lunch place was closed for remodeling, and we were super hungry. Due to work/time constraints, we didn't want to go out of the area, so we saw that this place was open and had plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as super high ceilings--just an overall cool vibe, too. We never thought of trying it because we're not huge beer drinkers, but...Wow...my husband had a burger and I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. We both agreed mine was the primo choice, but he enjoyed his burger just fine. Delish! The fries are also amazing--large, crisp, super tasty. Really good food and not your usual greasy, heavy pub food. I did take a look at the brews and they looked pretty tasty. I look forward to coming back at night to try one. read more

At last... some Scandinavian food. This Norwegian (74%, and 6% Swedish too!) is happy. While it's more Scandinavian inspired, there are some familiar flavors that are like wrapping myself in a warm, comforting blanket. The bread and honey butter, the use of caraway buns, meatballs, and HELLO- æbelskiver Sunday! The veggie burger is delicious, as is the Scandi-wrap. The soups are amazing. Once it was tomato curry with spinach fritters, and another some sort of potato corn chowder. I can't wait to try more. The meatballs are good. (Psst, my grandmothers secret was nutmeg). The beverage list includes Brennivin? And Akuavit??? Blueberry infused Brennivin last time I was there- so good! Not your typical offering, but again- great to see some representation. We came on Viking night aka winter night and costumes were optional but almost everyone had them!! This was a really fun evening. We ate before we came here but all the food looked amazing. The music was good. The beer was awesome as always. Some of the patrons were incredibly rude but most were nice. Super crowded and full of regulars but we still received polite, prompt service. The staff had excellent costumes. Next year, if we plan for this costumes are a must!! read more
