We, my partner & I stopped in for a quick lunch on Saturday (2/15/2025). We love their Pinto Gris & had the Med. plate. It was extremely busy (family +1 @ the bar, a group in the little room, us & then a group of ?14? came in) Aiden was the only person working & handled it all extremely well! We went to the tasting room today and had a tasting with Keith. The entire experience was 100% lovely. It was so fun to compare the wines from New Zealand and Oregon. We have a full wine fridge, but we will find room for the wines we bought! The tasting was for 4 wines and was waived with a purchase of 3 bottles. The wines were priced at a VERY reasonable $24-$30 average. There were a few food items - we did not have any, but it looked great. I would absolutely recommend this place! read more

Cute little spot! I'm not a big wine drinker but the lady who helped was so patient and kind ! She gave us two wines to taste , both of them were pretty good and something I would drink . The three day a week addition of the terrific pizza truck really takes this comfortable wine bar up a notch. The outdoor tented area is also very special. Decorated to use space to make sipping wine and enjoying your dinner and snacks feel like you are away from it all in a very special place. The wine is fine. The pizza is too. Sadly this was the first time I had visited Capitello. Happily, it will certainly not be my last. What a great establishment with an equally great location right off 5th St. Service was friendly and efficient, and they offer a wide selection of wines. Owner and founder Ray Walsh used to be a wine producer for King Estate, so it's safe to say he knows what he's doing. I also really like how Capitello infuses Walsh's New Zealand roots and influence into some of their wines. It's different and should be something valued here in little ole Eugene. When COVID passes this makes for a great place to get together with friends and family. They also currently have some outdoor seating as well. I highly recommend this place, and while it's difficult for great wine to separate itself given our area, don't let this place go unnoticed! read more

This was the very first winery visit for me in Oregon. I love that they have food trucks right next to them. Their tent set up is awesome especially in good weather and adds to the atmosphere. It was a bit windy on the day I visited but they offered blankets to their guests. Great price point for their wine. I ordered their Syrah Rogue Valley and fell in love! If I didn't just flew here with a carry on, I definitely would get a bottle and bring it back home with me. read more

A great place to do wine tasting without having to go out of town. The owner was in when we visited, and he definitely knows his stuff yet makes wine approachable and makes you feel relaxed. We had a ton of fun talking with him! I recommend the Oregon/New Zealand wine flight where you get to taste Oregon and New Zealand varietals side by side--super interesting. We had a fabulous Sauvignon Blanc at a Newport restaurant. Imagine my surprise when an internet search revealed the winery was located in Eugene. Living in the Portland area, we looked forward to our next trip to Eugene to visit the Capitello Tasting Room. It is located on Charnelton at 5th and has plenty of free, off street, parking. There are many options for seating, including outdoors. Capitello produces a variety of fabulous wines, both red and white, here and in New Zealand. Capitello is a nice little tasting room in the heart of Eugene. They have the best service and are taking great precautions during Covid-19. They have a variety of delicious wines and I recently enjoyed a sparkling wine flight and hummus plate outside on their enclosed and heated patio area. It's best to call in and make a reservation just to be safe. They have a pizza food cart a couple days a week and it gets pretty busy on those days,m. When they don't have the pizza truck you can bring your own food or munch on some of their snack offerings like cheese plates and charcuterie. They even had gluten free crackers for my friend which was nice. I can't wait until we can enjoy the inside of their cozy tasting room again! read more

After ten years in the local wine industry, family owned Capitello Wines has finally opened a tasting room in downtown Eugene. Ray, who was recruited from New Zealand in 1993, made a career with King Estate for ten years before opening his own winery with his son Desmond and his wife Jen. Capitello combines a selection of wines from his native Marlborough, New Zealand with Pinots, Sauvignons, a Brut, and dessert wines from the Willamette Valley. When we stopped by this afternoon to find the old Lord Leebrick Theater transformed into a warm but modern space with rustic design touches like farmhouse shutters. The owners clearly put a lot of effort into customizing the bar space, which beautiful displays their selection in a natural, untreated Oregon wood structure. If you look up from the bar, you'll see some of the exposed brick from the building itself, which adds to the contemporary, rustic feel of the place that puts you in that vineyard state of mind. We enjoyed all of the wines we tasted, especially the Sauvignon Blanc which had a pleasant level of acidity, and crisp, citrusy flavor. The sweet riesling is fruity and sweet but better balanced with acidity than most. We'd love to try their award-winning Dolcino some time too, which is a (Gewürztraminer) ice wine in the style of King Estate's Vin Glace, which, incidentally, the owner of Capitello helped develop for King. The downtown tasting location seems like a good place to relax after work, and they're setting up a little side space where groups could get together. They're also working on getting in some other wines, and setting up a tap for some Oakshire beer and Mead (Blue Dog I think?). They're open noon to 8pm, Wed-Sat, with Happy Hour daily from 4-6pm, which means $1 off glasses of wine. Welcome to downtown! read more

This place is a hidden gem in Eugene. 1) The wines are fantastic, and there's a great variety. 2) The food plates are perfect for pairing with wine, and are delicious. 3) The BEST part about this place (in my opinion) is the owners. They are incredibly hospitable and friendly. It's clear that they have a passion for wine and REALLY know their stuff, but they aren't at all arrogant about it. The husband/wife duo are incredibly down to earth and easy to talk to. They really seem to love answering questions and engaging with their customers. It's wonderful to see a family owned business being run by such kind people who genuinely love what they do. 4) Although the venue isn't large, it's incredibly comfortable. The atmosphere is cozy and classy. There is plenty of seating, making this a delightful place to join with friends for a fun time. 5) They regularly host various activities such as salsa nights, painting classes, cooking classes, and bingo. 6) Unlike most of Eugene (where finding parking is AWFUL) this place has its own parking lot, making parking as convenient as can be! If you live near Eugene, or even if you're just visiting- I highly recommend putting Capitello Wines on your itinerary. You will not regret giving it a try! read more

Great location. Very pretty, mellow vibe inside (as long as you don't look at the drawings of chicks with distressed animals on their chests). Nice for a few friends gathering after work, before heading off to a dinner spot. "75% concrete egg," is the first bit of a wine descriptor I read. Lawdy. If you're not an avid wine person, you'll have no idea what the taste of a wine is by reading the menu. Or listening to the staff, if my experience was any indication. No one in my party knew a concrete egg was a winemaking vessel, we just wondered why the f*ck we'd want something that tastes like sidewalk. Glasses were $7-11/12 each. None of us liked our wine enough to get a bottle so I didn't notice those rates. I didn't care for the "big, very grassy" Pinot I had and drank only half a glass. Several of my friends like what they got and we nearly all stuck to reds. Cheese plate looked good for small and overpriced but they'd run out of bread and Brie by 6:15. No real food menu to speak of, so don't go hungry. So, would I go again for great wine or a meal? No, but it gets a good rating from me almost despite itself. If you're looking for a casual but classy spot to sit with a friend for an hour and sip wine, it's perfect. Big glass front window and quiet enough for conversation. Go for the ambiance and consider the cost of your glass a rental fee. Then if the wine is also good, great! Bonus. :) On street meters, paid parking north of building on 5th. read more

Nice place, good wine, lousy service. I met a couple girlfriends at the tasting room, we each ordered the 6 glass flight and the hummus plate (which I do not recommend). There were only 2 other people in the place, we were all but ignored by the server. She was quiet friendly with the 2 guys at the bar but we had to continually ask for the next taste of wine. What they do well: Do you ever feel like a novice when you go wine tasting and the host describes the notes of pear and oak? When you taste wine, is your only palatable discrimination white or red? I often feel my palat isn't refined enough to taste each nuance in wine and I can I only identify obvious traits like dry or full-bodied. But here, every wine is so distinct. When the host says notes of mango, you smell the sweetness of the wine and you taste the mango. When he described the wine as grassy and peppery, that's exactly what I tasted. With each taste of wine, I was guided with an accurate description of what you should taste and it wasn't subtle by any means. The strawberry in the rose was nothing short of strawberry. Too often I've tried a flight of white wines and only been able to enjoy the sparkling muscat. Here I loved the pinot gris and the sauvignon blancs. I feel like I've only just now had first real wine experience. I highly recommend this place. Wonderful, knowledgeable service and above all, absolutely delicious wine. read more
