We ate our commencement celebratory dinner at Gordon Tavern. The place was packed and the service was a little hiccupy, but I imagine it was not a typical day for them. We ordered their house hefeweizen and I thought it was good. Daughter had a cider and appreciated it. Food ordered were two pork chop plates and a salmon. These were beautifully presented and tasty. The pork chop was a little tough for my taste, but honestly all pork seems to be that way because of the changes in hog care/feed. I think the restaurant is very pretty, but all the surfaces are hard. Consequently, it is very loud. I would return here and try appetizers, which looked great! read more

I was happy with our visit here. We celebrated my sister's birthday here; though it wasn't her first choice, she'd been here before and was glad to have the chance to visit again. They were able to seat our party of of nine, including toddler, fairly easily though we did need to call because nine is 'overbooked'. Thanks for getting us in, Gordon! The menu is not extensive but everyone found something that suited them well. I picked the burger, and it was excellent. Kudos to the chef for getting it fully well done; oftentimes I order a burger this way and it comes out with some pink on it. The bacon was also cooked through, another item that usually comes half cooked or less. It was accompanied with fries and I was really pleased with my choice. Some of the others got the short rib, salmon, and steak and everyone was happy with the meal. I decided to get an alcoholic beverage and was torn between the Starry Night and the Oregon Mule. I don't usually like a mule, but this one had marionberry vodka and I'm a sucker for just about anything with marionberry flavor so I went for it. I was surprised how much I liked this drink, because ginger beer usually is far too overpowering and here it was well balanced with the rest of the drink. I would order this again, and probably liked it better than the bit of the Starry Night I tasted from my sister. They also have seasonal drinks and lots of beers and wines to choose from. It's in the Gordon Hotel, so it's hard to miss (except I did, because for some reason I didn't make the connection that the Gordon Tavern was of course the restaurant at the Gordon Hotel). Bad experience here today on what did not appear to busy day at the restaurant. There was no one at the front desk to greet guests for more than five minutes. There were, however, employees in the restaurant glancing at us standing there and then looking away as if they had not seen us. Finally, we got seated and our waiter was squirrelly. He took our food orders and said he would come right back to get our drink orders, but apparently forgot. So the food arrived before the drinks. After that, we didn't see him for half an hour and finally had to ask another server for our bill. And he copped an attitude! Unfortunately, the food today was also mediocre. It's the first time I've had a bad experience here and I will give it another chance, but not for a while. I am giving it a rest and hope they can get their act together. read more

Six for breakfast in the back corner. Comfortable chairs and table in a well lit quiet area allowing for conversation. The menu looked pretty standard for breakfast. Food arrived in a timely fashion, mine with a big side of fruit, berries, grapes, and underripe melon in its own bowl. My eggs with hollandaise sauce was well prepared but arrived a cool room temperature on a cold plate. Too bad, The eggs were perfect as was the sauce and ham if you ignore the temperature. My guess is that the dish was plated on a cold plate and allowed to cool while other dishes were prepared. The tavern would have earned another star if the plate had been warm. Two if the dish itself had been at the proper temperature. All the dishes we ordered called for warm food. Simply heating the plates to warm would have vastly improved the meal which I suggest for the future. read more

I went here for happy hour and the food was just okay. We were seated quickly and had great service from Lisa. I liked the lemon drop, and the gin and juice was great as well. My burger was cooked properly but just wasn't that impressive. The fried chicken sliders, chips, calamari, and house salad were all just fine. It's a good deal on happy hour, and I may be back to try their dinner menu, especially since the drinks and service are good. The restaurant is cozy, we had a nice booth in the back. read more

We stopped by during happy hour on a Tuesday before seeing a show at the Hult, and it was a great choice. The service was friendly from the start, and we absolutely loved our server. Very welcoming and attentive. Between the three of us, we ordered the spicy pulled pork pizza, the wild mushroom pizza, and the Tavern Burger. Everything was delicious. The pizzas were flavorful and the burger really hit the spot. It ended up being the perfect pre-show stop before heading to the Hult. Definitely recommend, and we'll be making this a priority spot for our future pre-Hult show nights. read more

We had a horrible experience at the Gordon Tavern today for Mothers Day. We made a 9am breakfast reservation for 8 people and no one at the restaurant communicated that the Mothers Day didn't resemble the regular restaurant experience. When we arrived, the hostess proceeded to walk us to a table- not in the restaurant, but in an upstairs banquet room set full of round tables that felt like a convention or a really, really bad wedding. We were then were told that we'd be eating at the $50/pp buffet. I asked (nicely) if there was another seating option, even if it involved waiting, since none of this had been communicated to us when we made the reservation and we were pretty early in the day. The hostess tried to accommodate us, but a very rude and dismissive manager told us that all large parties would be seated upstairs in the banquet room with only the $50/pp buffet option, no exceptions. When I asked if we could at least order off the regular menu, we were told we could this was the only option but to "go ahead and do whatever you want" Nice. Since we weren't sure where else we'd get in on Mother's Day, we attempted to make the buffet situation work, but both the food and the service were abysmal. Soggy waffles, rubbery eggs, sketchy and less than fresh shrimp, undercooked sausage and dessert bar items that tasted either freezer burned/defrosted or slightly curdled (not exaggerating) The only edible things were the bacon and the green salad. The servers only responsibility was to take our drink order and they couldn't even pull that off. We ended up serving ourselves from the coffee bar, not once but twice, and were then scolded for it since we were supposed to wait for service. Even getting my hands on the check was an exercise in chasing our server down. And the bill- almost $400, for arguably one of the worst meals of my life. I'm not sure why I've never been here before but the Mrs was very excited to have me try it out. So here we are. The hostess was dressed very elegantly and asked if we had reservations, we did not. No problem, she found us a table readily enough. We were expecting friends to join us and thought the table to be a bit small.... 'Oh no problem, we can seat you here is this acceptable?' Wow Such gracious professionalism and courtesy, the entire staff was like that. Even the table bussers who went around refilling waters and clearing plates had the same level of service. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant with a smile that lit the table. She took our drink and appetizer requests. At one point my friend had switched to a different drink on a refill and the bar made a mistake. She was so gracious about it and corrected it without missing a step. Just awesome service. For an appetizer we started with some calamari. It was very tender, not chewy at all. It came with a spicy Green Goddess dipping sauce that had a bit of heat. The Truffle Fries were done nicely with truffle oil and parmesan sprinkled over all. I found them to be tasty with a nice light outer crisp and not oily. The truffle flavor was a unique taste and went well with the parmesan. The Wagyu Burger on a Brioche Bun was outstanding. The beef flavor was very pronounced and barely needed any seasoning. It came with melted cheese, lettuce, onion and fresh cucumber instead of pickle. The cucumber was sliced extremely thin and brought an aromatic flavor to the burger that was superb, just a very fine and refreshing fragrant flavor of fresh cucumber. The Truffle Fries appetizer was so good I also had it with the Wagyu Burger. The Wagyu Burger itself is cooked with 'pink' or 'no pink'. An interesting choice. The Dulce De Leche cheesecake was creamy, smooth and flavorful with a fantastic caramel drizzle. Fresh thin sliced strawberries were layered on top for an amazing flavor profile with a white chocolate and caramel swirl cheesecake. We visited for quite a while, we were not rushed, the seating was comfortable. Pleasant background music played overhead and the lighting wasn't too dim or intrusively bright. read more

I went there just to get a very simple lunch, a burger and fries and he asked me how I want it done and I said not well done a little pink in the middle and it came out like every other burger from every other place I've ever ordered with very few exceptions. The burger was dry, overcooked and mediocre at best not very flavorful and the fries were undercooked and kind of soft and not a little more crisp like I like. The service was good. I wish I could say it was great but good as a compliment. The person who seated me, let me pick my table and was very easy to work with for that, I was great for least. read more

In my opinion the Gordon has gone downhill since it opened. We have been 5-6 times and went last night and had a terrible experience. Our reservations were at 8 pm when we arrived the hostess said our table wasn't ready. 15 min later she seemed to forget about us. We asked about our table (the restaurant was emptying out) and she was sassy!!! She sassed back and said "I'll let you know, we are busy". She was chatting with the bartender and talking about us. They other hostess sat us and apologized. They put us in the back room. It's fine but the lighting is made for a meeting room, not a nice restaurant. We ordered drinks and appetizers. The calamari was great. I ordered the pork chop which I've had several times, it was terrible. It was thin, over cooked and covered in brown gravy. The service was great. Bill for 4 people was 400$ It's too bad too because Eugene needs special event places. I don't think we will go back. read more

My husband and I had reservations on a Thursday for our 21st anniversary. The restaurant was pretty bare. The place was freezing! The bathrooms were more cozy! Also, a customer should never get their appetizer before their drinks. Our appetizer of truffle fries came out within 10 minutes. Our drinks came 10 minutes later. I'm talking easy drinks to make. Even the waitress commented that she should have made them herself. Food was just average. My second cocktail took even longer (at a very unbusy bar, I might add. We visited Gordon Tavern for Happy Hour on a home game day so we expected it to be packed but we were seated right away. The rest of our service was quite slow despite it not actually being that busy but our server was friendly. They really have a good happy hour menu. The food was all pretty good and we got out of there for around $40 for two drinks and 3 happy hour items. I would definitely visit for Happy Hour again (really want to try their pizza). read more

Had dinner there yesterday (07-Feb-2026). We made a reservation and were seated very quickly upon arrival. Waited a great while for our server to take drink orders for us. Then when the drinks arrived we gave our orders (mine you there was three). She had to come back twice to reconfirm and to ask what we needed to exclude while holding a pen and paper each time. Horrible. I wish I had seen the November 2025 Health Inspection score of 76 before I took guests there for a celebration dinner and got food poisoning. They have been cited with violations repeatedly. The management hasn't responded at all to our experience. At minimum, food should be SAFE. read more

We had below average food and service on a quiet summer night. The calamari was too-tiny rings with greasy batter slightly overcooked and paired with a heavy mayo sauce. Pork chop, as others have noted, was covered in a cloying sweet brown gravy and served with runny mashed potatoes and crunchy veg. Salmon was also overpowered by a lemon-butter goo and served with ghastly salty arancini balls - would have been better with plain wild rice. Kitchen here seems in disarray. Old fashioned was also too sweet and lacked proper size single ice ball so even the bar is sloppy. Service was beyond slow, despite only a couple other tables. And although we sat inside the doors were open so we were pestered by flies the whole time. The lighting here is horrific - bare light bulbs at full intensity set very low give it the feeling of a stage. read more

I've only visited a couple of times, but this may become one of my regular spots. I visited for a girl's brunch - food was delicious. I was craving a burger one night - delicious. I've relaxed at the bar and received great service. There's also a fireplace and sofas in the lobby. Gordon's is reminiscent of some of my favorite Culver City/Los Angeles hangouts. read more

A pretty cool spot in Eugene Public Market; Gordon Tavern is a great spot for a meal. We visited on a Holiday and they were short staffed; making the experience super slow. Yet, we were seated quickly. We ordered a hummus and pita platter and fries to get started. We could see the prepared food by the server table but no one to serve it. It finally made its way to our table 10 minutes later. The taste however was super amazing. Then we got a veggie pizza ie margarita pizza with some added veggies. The pizza came hot and it was great. Crunchy, full of sauce and cheese, this one was pretty good. In spite of the slow service, the food was quite a hit. Would go back on a busier day and when it's less hot to try their amazing outdoor seating. Great food overall! read more

We just traveled from Washington to spend the wknd with our son at UO for parents wknd. We stayed at the Gordon Hotel and had brunch at the Gordon Tavern this morning. Basically staff were rude, food was cold and not very good, and service slow. I could understand if the place was busy but only half the tables were open. Pretty disappointing when you spend 8 hours traveling each way and lord knows how much paid in tuition etc to be made to feel like a major inconvenience to a local restaurant. Thankfully we weren't there for the food or ambience. We would not recommend this place. read more

Very disappointed, won't return. The buffet selection was limited, and Benedict's eggs were poorly prepared. The muffins were so hard that we couldn't cut through them. Our server brought us fresh ones, but unfortunately, the muffins weren't even toasted. We just ate the tops off of them because we were hungry and were saving our appetite for Brunch. Given the price of $50 per person, I expected a much higher standard of food preparation and service. To add to our disappointment, no manager checked in with us to see if we were satisfied, even though our dissatisfaction was evident. 5 stars for the inspiring drink menu and bartenders. I had the Oregon mule and then the rest of our road trip searched out the marionberry vodka to duplicate the drink at home for friends! I wanted salmon, but surprised it was farmed when I inquired. I chose the filet instead, which was wonderful and cooked perfectly. Whipped potatoes flavorful! Server was focused on order taking only, and nothing else. No attention to detail. One example- I had to ask for the steak knife after a few bites into my meal because it was not brought to me prior. Stars - A Masterclass in Atmospheric Tension My companion and I chose the Gordon Hotel Lounge for a specific, clearly communicated purpose: to watch the 12pm game. We were forthright with our server, a gentleman who assured us this was no problem. His confidence was... admirable. What we experienced was a fascinating social experiment in expectation management. The first act involved enjoying a perfectly adequate lunch and drinks in a library-esque silence, punctuated only by the gentle clinking of glassware and the visual spectacle of a football game playing out on mute. It was like watching a very intense, very well-dressed mime convention. The culinary team gets a nod--the food was good. The management's commitment to their chosen aesthetic of "funeral parlor during a big play" was even better. Our server was attentive and efficient. He did, however, seem to be losing a personal battle with his deodorant. A minor, if pungent, detail in the broader tableau. The real twist came later, a true coup de théâtre: the game magically appeared on the screen! The picture was crystal clear. The volume, however, remained at a whisper, presumably to avoid disturbing the profound quiet of a nearly empty Saturday afternoon lounge. One mustn't startle the guests with something as vulgar as audible commentary. The service was good, the food was fine, but the overall experience was a masterclass in subtle disapproval. I can only conclude that the management has a deep-seated philosophical opposition to the hearing of sports. Perhaps they are anti-Beavers? Or maybe they have a longstanding feud with Ducks? The mystery remains. In summary: highly recommend for a contemplative luncheon. For actually watching a game? Unless you're a professional lip-reader with a vested interest in silent huddles, look elsewhere. They play to win, but you're not allowed to hear it. They poured water for that table and topped off previous folks without giving us water or saying anything. Never have had such experience there before. Last time I was here the Gordon Hotel did not have the tavern quite open as of yet. Fast forward two years I'm sitting here having a late night dinner with family. I ordered a Rye whiskey Manhattan and the waitress came out and said oh here's your old-fashioned and I said no I ordered a Manhattan And she said well I'm a bartender and I know what it is. About 20 minutes later she came back and said yes it was an old-fashioned which I already knew because it was much sweeter than what I'm taste like that's the difference between vermouth and simple syrup. so it was nice that they fixed the drink, but did not take it off the menu for their screwup. It was a perfect night for sitting outside. The food was not bad try but the service was a little slow since they were so busy. read more

I had heard raving reviews of the Gordon, so I've been excited to give it a try. I did expect a more grand atmosphere, but this was on par for a regular hotel restaurant. I ordered the waygu burger and I must say it was flawless! The meat was cooked perfectly, the fries were tasty, and my expectations were definitely met. The price was reasonable as well. Our waitress was friendly and had a great sense of humor. Unfortunately, some other people in our party had ordered the shrimp pasta and green beans. The green beans were seemingly uncooked and the pasta was a teeny tiny serving. One person I went with had been to The Gordon Tavern earlier in the week and ordered the same dish, but she claimed it was a full serving a few days prior yet it was about half the size when she ordered it again during our visit. We came as a party of seven and all of the Eugene locals mentioned that their orders tend to vary greatly, probably depending on what chef is working. I think The Gordon has a reputation for being the greatest new(ish) restaurant in town, but it needs to grow into those shoes a bit. The potential is there, but if you've heard raving reviews like I had, I recommend adjusting your expectations a smidge. If they could get more consistency going in the kitchen, I think they might really be onto something. read more

We were in town for the Eugene marathon and called ahead to make sure there was no wait. This should have been more of a red flag. We did not get to eat for at least an hour despite being seated immediately. Home fries were subpar but I did enjoy my veggie omelette. The waffle was surprisingly good but that is about it. Mainly, service was bad. While the waitress was nice, she was not very attentive and either she forgot to put in our food orders or the kitchen was just extremely backed up but we waited for our food for such a long time we were considering just asking to cancel. I like to think of myself as a very patient person but this place on that day definitely tested my limits! My word of advice is don't seat people if your kitchen is over capacity! read more

I thoroughly enjoy the Gordon for evening meals, however weekend breakfast is an entirely different experience. The food is unremarkable, served tepid. The coffee is anything but strong and served in small cups. Instead of someone coming by regularly for refills, they bring you an entirely new [small] cup of coffee that is not hot. There are too many good breakfast spots in Eugene/Springfield to return for that. read more
