Food was good. Liked the decor and vibe. Music not too loud. Good for couples, singles or groups.
We've been long time fans of Cornish pasty, although this is the first time we've been to the downtown location. This location is quite large, taking up two stories. It has a separate billiards room and a large bar in the middle. I love the different lighting fixtures hanging amongst the big chandeliers. I really like the aesthetic of this place. There is a patio outside as well. There are so many varieties of pasties that you can order. We ordered the bangers and mash pasty and the Italian pasty. I have no idea why we would go towards the Italian pasty but there are so many delicious, traditional fillings. The Italian was good, with roasted tomatoes, pepperoni, salami, cheese. But the bangers and mash was absolutely fantastic with the wine gravy. Next time I'll stick to more traditional fillings. The service was fantastic here. Our server was very nice and friendly and when I told her we were in a rush she brought the check right away. This is a really great option if you've got a show to see downtown and want to hit dinner first. There are a lot of good options, however, this place has a nice casual feel.
Oggie Pasty (2/5): Very mediocre pasty with not a lot of flavor and an off putting bitterness. The red wine gravy was pretty good and helped a lot, but overall, this one wasn't really for me. RATING SYSTEM 5 - Great (Need to get this again) 4 - Good (Would get this again) 3 - Ok (Might give this another shot) 2 - Not Good (Won't get this again) 1 - Bad (Telling people to avoid this)
I remember visiting the Cornish Pasty in both Scottsdale and Tempe over the years, and I have always enjoyed any of the signature or premium pasties I have tried. Today, I was walking near my office and came across the Downtown Phoenix location of Cornish Pasty. I enjoyed a tasty lunch with good service, and I am already looking forward to heading back there. When I approached the restaurant from the corner of Central and Monroe, it wasn't clear which door was the door I should enter though it seems like any door off Monroe or Central is just fine. There were limited number of tables plus the bar, and I was delighted to see a small table available. I was eating on my own with a book, and I was quickly greeted by one of several team members who stopped by my table over my lunch hour. I asked a few questions about three options, and I decided upon the Chicken Pot Pie Signature Pasty consisting of chicken, carrots, red potato, green beans, celery, and onion with rosemary. There was also chicken gravy on the side. Everything about the dish was delicious! I would consider ordering this again as I enjoyed it so much; however, I may want to try something else next time. There are so many options! I did learn though that you cannot substitute most options in the pasties. Visit the Cornish Pasty website at https://www.cornishpastyco.com. On the website is the history of the Cornish pasty, information about all 11 locations (of which 9 are in Arizona), menus, a photo gallery, catering options, contact form, employment options, online ordering, and gift cards. The menu consists of their signature pasties and premium pasties though they also list vegan and vegetarian pasties, salads, appetizers and soups, sides, desserts, and drinks. While the Scottsdale and Tempe locations appear larger than the Downtown Phoenix location, it was still comfortable and had similar positive customer service from staff. There are so few restaurants like the Cornish Pasty in the Phoenix area. I'd certainly recommend visiting any of the Cornish Pasty locations though for a positive experience Downtown, feel free to stop by. No reservations are needed. If you don't find a regular table available, feel free to stop at the bar and take a seat there. I look forward to returning back to the Cornish Pasty again soon. Yum!
I recently visited Cornish Pasty in downtown Phoenix. I was most impressed by the amazing service that we received. Our server was very attentive and quick. The drinks were on point and the food was delicious. Also, I would visit again just for the bathroom and the amazing old-school 90s and 80s playlist. This is a two-story venue and we loved sitting upstairs. It was such a vibe!! Keep up the great old-school music and the amazing service!
I got the Oggie, which is the traditional Pasty with steak and potato. I enjoyed it, definitely felt like comfort food, which is not surprising for the food from that region. A little bit lacking in seasonings for my taste but that's alright, you need that too sometimes. It was also surprisingly filling too, although it might not look like it. The service was great and we got our food way quicker than we expected. I also like that you can see through to the kitchen where they are making the Pasties, definitely adds to the experience. We were there for lunch but I can imagine this place is really vibey for dinner and just hanging with friends over some drinks and food.
This Cornish Pasty Co location is one of my favorite spots to grab a bite and a beer in downtown Phoenix. Their bar selection is vast with tons of beers on tap and various bottles/cans available. While it is always pretty busy, there's always a spot to sit, and the service staff is on top of their game. The location has two floors, an upstairs bar and downstairs, and pool tables/dart boards on each level as well. The vibe is very cool, with plants and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. If you want more of a dark and mysterious vibe, head upstairs. If you like it a little more spacious, downstairs is your place! If you haven't had a pasty before, you are missing out on an exquisite dining experience. Whether you use a fork and knife or eat it as a proper hand pie, you'll love it. I am particularly fond of the chicken pot pie.
We had tickets to the Orpheum theater and we're looking for a fun place to have dinner before the show. We parked in the nearby parking structure for $25 for the evening and walked over to this restaurant. It's pretty good size with both indoor and outdoor seating and seating downstairs and upstairs. The music is pretty loud inside, so we grabbed the last table that we saw outside as the sign said the seat yourself. Our server arrived within five minutes and we soon received water and a beer. Our server gave us tips on ordering. We decided to try the scotch eggs to start and they were very delicious! My husband got the chicken pot pie pasty and I got the Greek pasty. They came out crispy and hot within 15 minutes. We both enjoyed our choices. We would definitely come back again. The prices are good and the service is friendly.
Got takeout and our order was prepared quickly. There were several items they were out of online unfortunately but they have an extensive menu so decided to try the Guinness Stew pasty. It came with a filling of steak in gravy with cabbage, carrots, potatoes and cheese. Overall, was moist and flavorful though wished there was more protein included for the price. The outside crust was stellar and brought all the flavors together - super buttery and flaky. The sour cream and chive dip was a nice touch too! Inside the restaurant had a traditional pub style vibe and looked quite busy even on a weekend evening. Staff were overall quick to help get my order.
My first visit to the Downtown Phoenix iteration of Cornish Pasty Company - Tempe locations have been prior experiences of mine for more years than I care to mention (close to 20?). That said, I was in the area for somewhat of an extended lunch break and I selected CPC. Sat at the bar. Not very busy all around, which I have experienced lately in DT PHX; how are these high-rent establishments staying in business to open for lunch when there's hardly anyone to serve at noon on a September Thursday?! Service was very quick and attentive as necessary. I ordered the "Green Chile Bacon Cheeseburger" and it was good. Crust: crispy and flaky, but strong enough to hold in the ingredients. Green chile was on the mild side - that's my only wish here; not everyone can Hatch, NM or Los Dos every meal, but personally, I'd like for it to be! Ranch for dipping, which I did about twice per half. I bet this place is fun on weekend nights!
I love Cornish Pasty, regardless of the location, though this was only my second time eating at the location Downtown. It was a Wednesday night, so it was a bit quiet downtown. The service was quick and, per usual, the food was very tasteful with a large (almost overwhelming) selection of pasty options to choose from. I ordered the chicken pot pie pasty and it was so good! The outside of the pasty was nice and flaky and the gravy that came alongside the pasty was amazing. The only reason I'm giving this experience a 4 instead of a 5 is because our server was not very friendly at all. She was quick and efficient, but she was not very inviting, didn't thank us for stopping in at the end of the meal, and overall just did not make us feel welcome as guests.
THE BEST CHIPS (FRIES)! As a British expat, I'm always happy to try a new British restaurant, so I had to try this one while visiting Phoenix. The pasty and gravy were authentic and delicious. The chips were some of the best I've had in a very long time, if not ever. The restaurant is large with an upper and lower level and patio dining. It has a pub-like feel. Use the QR to view the menu, but order through the waiter. (This isn't quite obvious, so a sign stating 'Order with the waitstaff' would make things more clear). There are a variety of pasty flavors to choose from. The bathrooms are completely graffitied -- I think they've chosen to make that part of the decor. Don't let them scare you off! I would visit again if we were in the Phoenix area. Helpful?
We went to Cornish Pasty for a nice walk and lunch downtown. The restaurant is so nice inside and there's a great patio to sit at also. Our pasties came out and they were huge and steaming hot. I had the chicken pot pie one and it came with a gravy for dipping. My bestie had the Rueben which she said was delicious. I tried to eat my entire pasty but they are so big it was impossible. Our waitress was friendly and kept our drinks full too. Cornish pasty is definitely on our lunch rotation as the food is always reliably good and the service is so quick.

The kitchen was slow on cooking up the pasty that I ordered up. Besides the lag during the lunch run, the peppered steak pasty with mushrooms and leek, was a bit on the salty side, but very homely to eat. It was surely a filler and complimenting with a beer, which they have a variety to choose from. There were other pasties to try as well. Thanksgiving is coming up so I was on the edge to try turkey with stuffing pasty, but was thinking that I will have a feast of that in the coming month! One staff knew his pasties so he recommended well. They have 3 tea selections and it was refreshing for the warm day. It's a spacious pub and sort of looks antique. It suits the pub pasty experience. Lots of room for dining! Comfort spot! read more

Wow!!! This place blew my mind! Lots of vegan items on the menu to pick from. Menu items that I've never seen on anywhere else! I also had the Greek pasties on another occasion while visiting Phoenix. This is by far my favorite place to eat in downtown Phoenix. Prices are great $12-$15 on average, large portion, excellent flavor and variety. Indoor and outdoor seating, very English style, dark wood, cozy. Service was slow during the busy lunch hour but food is well worth it! read more

First time at the downtown location and we loved it.. it feels like it's been there forever .. that old world charm. We chose to sit upstairs in the black leather love seat chairs by the bar.. the bartender brought us menus and when the guys couldn't decide on which beer to have he brought them samples.. awesome service!! From our seats we could see the pastys being made.. they sure make it look easy.. I ordered the chicken pot pie.. it was delish.. that pastry crust is perfect with the veggie, chicken & gravy filing. We shared the garlic roasted potatoes, also very good! We'll be back to enjoy a drink and some pool.. and make our way through the menu. Lots of vegetarian & vegan options. read more
I came here on New Year's Eve day. Always a good vibe inside. Went upstairs play some pool in order some beers. Very cozy and dim environment. First time I'm trying to food over here. I got the spicy Asiago chicken Pasty and I also tried the carne adovada Pasty. I really like the carne adovada Pasty as opposed to the spicy Asiago chicken. The port in the carne adovada was really juicy and flavorful. You get a side of sour cream and salsa, which I just lather onto the Pasty. Would definitely recommend trying the carne. The spicy Asiago chicken was okay, I'm but I'm not too big into the Hatch Chiles, and there was less flavor with the chicken compared to the pork. Wasn't really spicy in my opinion. Spicy Asiago chicken was around $10.50 + tax* The carne adovada was $12 plus tax. Really like the free pool tables that they have upstairs, easy way to pass the time. Also good window seating upstairs. The Waitresses were super friendly and attentive. Come check this place out. read more

Definitely one of the best tasting and freshest pasties I've tried, probably better than what you get in England too. The crust was so so good and the inside just bursting with flavor. Would highly recommend if you're hungry or thirsty in the Phoenix downtown area! A real gem!!! read more

I enjoyed my experience at Cornish Pasty. Very unique building with 3 different levels and 3 different atmospheres. I sat on the top floor honestly because that's where most of the people we're sitting. Staff was great, very attentive and friendly. Food was unique. Basically a delicious meal wrapped up into a pastry. I ordered the scotch egg (which was good) and the Tikka masala pasty which was great. One thing that concerned me was that you can't make edits/special requests to the food. That screams frozen premade food to me. BUT my meal came out using delicious and not previously frozen. Prices are very good. All pastys are around $11 and they have an ok happy hour. If I had my way with this place, I wish I could get 2 or 3 pastys for the same price. Lots of different options to choose from so I really would have liked to try multiple of them vs the one big one. I would definitely come back here to try the different pastys as the number of options is great. Give them a shot! read more
Simply awesome! I'm talking about the location, the ambiance the service, and off course... The pasties!!! Delicious, fresh, and flavorful. They were hot. And filled with goey goodness. My friend had never been there and she loved it, so that means a lot. Our server was fast, kind, smiley. I really cannot say enough about this place. It smells delicious. Just like curry when you come in. The guys are simply cool. They let you seat wherever. You know they are made tho order because they make them right in front of you pretty much on their beautiful firs floor kitchen. Talking about floors, we sat on the second level. There a certain charm about this place. I couldn't get enough pics. I'm a happy camper for sure! And this is one more place I recommend. read more

Yelp 100 Challenge 2018: 34/100 Came here on a Wednesday night to find this place not too crowded. There are people at the bar area and at the upstairs game area as well. My boyfriend and I say down and ordered. There weren't too many tables but we still waited over 30 minutes to get our food. It was 9 pm when we sat down so needless to say we were pretty hangry by the time the food finally came. Service was ok, food was ok. What's so special about this place? Its like blaze except they need to bake the pastry a bit more. read more

Never had this type of food before, but it was good. A little dry in my opinion and a little over priced since it didn't come with any sides. It was very pretty i almost didn't even want to eat it it was so pretty. I probably wouldn't go again, but for people who like this kind of food it's definitely a place you should try out. read more
Lamb Vindaloo pasty is so yummy and flavorful! I kinda wished I had basmati rice but loved the convenience of eating it as a pie. Tried a bite of the Italian and I was not blown away but it had more to do with flavors I was craving. The pasty crust on the Italian was more enjoyable since the Vindaloo completely overpowers the bread flavor but I felt it was perfect as is! read more

This place was soooo yummy! A friend that lives in Phoenix took me here for dinner while I was visiting and I absolutely loved it. I had never had a pasty before this and now all I can think about is how sad I am that there is not a location where I'm from in Southern California! I had the pesto chicken and it was truly delicious. The cocktails we had were also very good. read more

How has it taken us this long to try Cornish Pasty out! We tried this place while on a bar crawl and fell in love with it. We went upstairs and were surprised by how much space there was. There were a couple pool tables, tons of places to sit, and a cool looking bar. The staff were friendly but not very outgoing however the bar was very busy. We sat down at one of the bar tables and ordered the hamburger pastry with fries inside. So amazing! Would highly recommend coming here, their menu is extensive and we were impressed. Good beer and good food, would definitely return. read more

The scotch eggs app was delicious perfectly seasoned and fried. Our pasty's we got a bangers and mash and a cheeseburger like one which came with fries inside. Both of those were okay, a little salty. The real star of the show was the meringue we got for dessert and the toffee cake and ice cream read more

I used to work in downtown Phoenix and this place was slated to open for a long time. I'm glad it's here and I got to visit for dinner this weekend. It's an interesting setup; they've got some outdoor seating and you walk in to what seems like a small space. However, they have a basement as well as a second floor, both set up lounge style. They really took a creative spin and I thought it was great. The hostess greeted us and gave us the rundown: we seat ourselves and the server comes by with menus. We chose to sit downstairs and I loved all the booths and private spaces. It was dark in typical CP style but didn't detract. My friend and I ordered waters and their oven chips as an appetizer. Delicious! They came with complimentary jalapeños and garlic topping and the potatoes were crispy and flavorful with no hint of greasiness. My first choice of pasty was unavailable unfortunately so I went with one I've tried before, the veggie chicken tikka masala. My friend got the veggie Mexican. My order came out wrong and I received the veggie cottage pie instead, and I decided to take it instead of waiting longer for my original order. We split our pasties and I liked the Mexican but not the cottage so much. However, our server was apologetic about the order mixup and didn't charge us for the second pasty. I do love the buttery flaky crust (props if you get my reference haha) and I learned that the crimped edges means those are the vegetarian pasties. Way cool! Despite the snafu, I will come back to CP. This is a neat location to check out in downtown Phoenix, walking distance from other entertainment venues. read more

Interesting... The few things I really liked about this restaurant was the pool table and the darts . My experience here was a 1 star. My food was very hard to eat and I did not get what I expected. The waitress waiting us could have been much gentler and kinder. But, the rest of the members of my party enjoyed (their meal actually had meat and the normal amount of cheese!!) their dining here. read more

Who comes to the Cornish Pasty Co. on their busiest night of the year?!! Obviously me who does not plan ahead well! Celebrated St. Patrick's Day with my youngest son who loves this place. He fancies the IPAs so he has a large selection to choose from. I am more of a wine drinker myself but when in Rome you know.... beer and pasties! Yes it was super busy and we probably got the last table in the house which was a two top down in the lounge in the lower level. Service was slow because they were packed to capacity and everybody was drinking massive amounts of spirits. I won't judge them based on that but the pasties well at least make you feel like you've traveled to Cornwall, England and back! And the beer will make the flight even easier! read more

I had the Oggie and a Guinness and they were both perfect. The service was a bit slow but the weather was nice enough to sit outdoors so I just relaxed and enjoyed the fresh air. It appeared that there was a healthy contingent of regulars which seems like a good thing. read more

Stopped by for a few drinks and hubby and I decided to try one of their pasties. It was good and definitely will return to try others. So here's the reason why I gave it a 3 star and it wasn't because the food or service it was the restrooms!! Well the women restroom. It was so gross and no fault to the business but at the same time they need to keep this clean cause it can ruin your freaking appetite. I mean it was as bad as Walmarts restrooms. That's my only complain-Thank you kindly. read more
