Such a cute coffee shop with great options. The front area has so many little gifts and next door is a flower shop, so you can grab a sip and do some shopping! Would be a great place to stop on your way to a birthday party to pick up a gift. I got the gluten free bagel with cream cheese and an oat milk chai latte, both were fantastic! Dare I say my favorite chai latte I've had in Oceanside so far!? The people behind the counter and who run the food were really nice and helpful. Overall, it's a little pricey as I paid around $17 for bagel and chai but both tasted worth it and I'll for sure be back to order the same thing again!
While the ambience and working space is very aesthetic and gorgeous, I found the pastries to be stale and drinks were pretty average. They do have some nice gifts and cards to browse though!
No complaints about this spot besides maybe it's only street parking. Ample seating, delicious food and drink, and a little shop you can browse while waiting in line. The sandwich was great, and I was iffy before ordering just because I don't like English muffin too much but the toast on it made it good. I had a hot london fog but would love to try the coffee next time. Seems pretty dog friendly, or that's just the Oceanside public acting like the Oceanside public haha.
I had a great experience here. Not a coffee drinker but came with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by their non-coffee selection. I had an Iced chai which was perfectly spicy and not overwhelming along with their turkey pesto breakfast sandwich which was balanced and the right size for a light breakfast. Would come back! Parking is easy (lots of street parking nearby) and service as fast with both indoor and outdoor seating.
Communal Coffee is my go-to Saturday morning pick-me-up. The lavender honey latte is my favorite. The space itself is super cute and has such a welcoming vibe. One of my favorite parts is that they even have a florist inside making fresh bouquets, which adds such a nice touch. There's also a small shop area where you can browse things like candles, books, clothes, jewelry, and even bottles of wine. The staff are always friendly, and there's plenty of seating if you want to hang out for a bit. They have WiFi, so it's a great spot to get some work done, and there's also outdoor seating for those sunny SoCal days. They also offer food options and even alcoholic coffee drinks, which is a fun bonus. Overall, such a great spot...definitely one of my favorites in the area.
Drinks were not bad. Nothing killer. Service was super quick, nice water station, reusable plates and cups etc. Setting was nice with plenty of spots to catch up with friends, study, work etc. outlets inside as well. Clean bathrooms
The moment I walked in, there was a line of adorable puppies waiting alongside their owners, so I got to enjoy a healthy dose of cute pups! I absolutely loved how pet-friendly the place was. They also had a super charming grab-and-go section with goodies and gifts. I ended up picking up a couple of cowboy shot glasses and some chocolates to gift. The strawberry matcha latte was delicious and definitely worth trying. The wait wasn't long at all, and there were plenty of seating options to choose from. The bar area was very clean, and there were lots of cozy, sunny spots both indoors and outdoors. Overall, it was such a welcoming atmosphere, and I can't wait to come back.
This place is adorable! When I walked in, the people were very friendly and were able to recommend a drink & food. Both were absolutely delicious. There's different areas you can sit (patio out back, inside, front & side of building. Everything is open & airy.
The vibe is great for working. The service is quick and the staff is polite. However I'm very disappointed with the quality of the matcha latte. The addition of $1 for almond milk is ridiculous for a $7 diluted matcha. Clearly it's cheap matcha powder. I'm not complaining about the price but the quality of the matcha is unacceptable to call it matcha. So you should order something else.
Had the Gold Coast iced coffee the other day with my daughter, I may have found another outstanding coffee house here. This place is not only really nice to just come and hang out, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but the coffee is really good! So many choices and they use good ingredients, I will definitely be here again and again.
Pretentious? Yes. Delicious? Also yes. If you're the type of person who shows up with a MacBook, orders matcha, and appreciates minimalist coffee-shop aesthetics, you'll fit right in here. The hours are great, the space is clean and inviting, and the matcha was okay. One thing I found a little odd: they bring your food to the table, but not your drink. Not a huge deal, just something I noticed. I came here twice in a row because I couldn't stop thinking about the lemon basil burrata toast. The first time was incredible which loaded with toppings and full of flavor. The second time looked noticeably lighter on the burrata and basil. Maybe it was an off day, because I know how good it can be. Overall, I'd still come back. The matcha was good enough, the toast was good enough to bring me back immediately, and despite the slightly curated "everyone here is working on a startup" vibe, the food was worth the visit.
Wow! I have been to the other locations in north and South Park and this location in Oceanside is immensely better. The size is larger with high ceilings and amazing lighting. There are several tables with outlets available to charge your devices. Lots of street parking nearby and ordering is really fast. I thoroughly enjoyed the vanilla cronut (the frosting had real vanilla bean!) and the salted caramel latte had a balanced flavor of espresso and caramel. My new favorite in north county!

This place is one of the most beautiful coffee shops I've ever been to. It has a flower shop within the cafe and a cute little section for local goodies and coffee beans. I love how there's so much space indoors and outdoors for people to study and to enjoy brunch with friends! I recommend the maple sausage sandwich. It was surprisingly flavorful and juicy. The lavender honey was a solid choice as well and not too sweet. I will definitely add this to my must-do list every single time I visit Oceanside! read more
Wow the inside of communal is GORGEOUS. So many pretty colors and plants everywhere. There is plenty of seating inside and outside as well and free wifi for those who want to work. I got the ube matcha latte which is a seasonal drink. The flavors blended perfectly together and it came out super pretty. It wasn't too sweet as well which was good. The latte art was purple with ube :) If you get a coffee/ latte, don't forget to tell them if you want it hot or iced, as they will most likely give you your drink hot. read more
I'm truly bummed to be making a negative update to my review. I hadn't visited in over a month but decided to stop in this morning to treat myself to a bagel and coffee. Everything was alright (except the batch drip coffee, which I drink black, was very acidic today), the food was good as usual, the service friendly. Only after the fact did I realize my $15 ham and cheese bagel sandwich was charged as $18, simply because I'd requested an everything bagel. Nowhere on the menu does it mention everything bagels costing an extra $3, only gluten-free bagels. Though the bagel sandwich was delish, no one could justify $18 for it! I'm hoping this was an honest mistake or user error, otherwise I'm beginning to think this place is just too expensive for me to patronize any longer. read more

I have passed by their other location in north park in the past so I was looking forward to this location. met up with a friend to do some work here and we found a table immediately :) plugs are available at most tables inside. staff was friendly, beautiful shop/cafe interior, and felt very chill. some people were doing work, others were chatting, others in phone calls. I ordered a matcha latte and the ricotta toast. matcha was so good - I like mine on the sweeter side and they have sugar and sugar alternatives on the side to fit to your liking. ricotta toast was delicious, loved the peaches and mint on it. loved the place and would come again, but my drink and the toast came out to $22. a bit pricey! read more

This place did not disappoint. It's equally cute from what it appears on the photos. Parking was easy to find, not as congested as downtown. It was also fairly slow when we arrived so we did not wait long to order or receive our food. You do have to go up to the cashier and order your food AND the one thing I disliked about it was that I wasn't aware we had to get our drinks from the counter. And, we weren't told this, so we were waiting for our drinks most of the time until I finally got up and asked where they were! My first time there so them explaining the process would have been nice. Our food was good and affordable. read more

My go to coffee shop in Oceanside!! With made in house syrups and clean ingredients for their food items, this coffee shop always makes me feel happy and content with what I order every time! Always consistent in producing quality drinks and food and the staff are always friendly and helpful! You definitely should try communal, grab a nice cup of coffee and sit on a comfy couch in their open air space ASAP. read more
This is a super cute coffee/drink spot in oceanside! Tons of street parking and the decor is adorable. Its quiet and calming with small groups chatting at a reasonable level. My coworker and I came by to work remotely and were able to sit down and order directly from the table. The lavender lemonade was delicious and they have cute holiday drinks now as well! Phenomenal service and amazing coffee/food! This is my third time here and I have always been served quality coffee with great customer service. The staff is so so kind. They double checked that a particular drink was dairy free, and they were beyond helpful/sweet in fixing a mistake I made when ordering a food item! And I loved reading and relaxing inside Communal with all their beautiful decor and plants inside. Please come to Communal to hang out and get some tasty food and spectacular coffee, this is such a special and cool place! By far my favorite coffee shop in all of Southern California!!! There doesn't seem to be a way to contact someone at this business. Ordered four sandwiches, two of them were totally different sandwiches, one had a hair. Tried calling, repeatedly. No one answers the phone. Texted the contacted number and got a response an hour later saying they issued a refund. A week later, still no sign of that refund. And guess what... they're still not answering their phone. I'm all about supporting my local business but come on, get a damn phone line! This is ridiculous. read more

I was lured to this cafe by the beautiful pics on Yelp of its interior. This coffee shop has beautiful aesthetics! It's quite a big space with seating inside and outside. They also have a small retail section selling cute stuff and a small retail store next to it too. You can order at the counter or you can order from your table with the QR code. We didn't realize this until we had ordered at the counter and sat down at a table and noticed the QR code. I had the mint coffee which was very sweet, coffee wasn't strong enough IMO. But I did enjoy the salmon bagel, which was delish! Prices fit the ambiance of the place. It's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! read more

The inside of this place is very aesthetic. I wanted to try this place because of how beautiful it looked in the inside and how good the breakfast is. I was disappointed to say the least. The servers were a bit rude and not attentive. The food was mediocre at best. I did enjoy my bagel, but it was definitely not worth its price. My boyfriend got a sausage sandwich, and it was also pretty average. If you want actual filling food, look elsewhere. I also got a matcha and it did not taste good. It tasted like water and lacked any sort of matcha flavor. I do not recommend the matcha here. All in all, if you're willing to spend a good amount of money for average food, then by all means. We visit San Diego every year and Communal is one of my favorite coffee shops by the beach by far. Not only are their lattes so flavorful and smooth but it's also super pretty inside! They have a florist shop and so many cute items/ceramic mugs for purchase. I purchased a cute hat/mushroom styled ceramic mug. 4.5 star review. Love this place, but still not good enough to be a destination restaurant, and to me, that means a place worth significant effort to travel to for super awesome food & experience. Love the vibe, the open concept, the minimalist decor, the flowers, super comfy and inviting. Food was very good. My wife and I shared a cobb chopped salad, and the communal pizza. The pizza was scrumptious - so much better than many pizza spots! Nicely savory, good balance of cheese and prosciutto. Wish there were more tomatoes for more acidity to balance out the salt. The crust was good - could have probably stayed in the oven a touch longer. Nonetheless, a very good pizza. A solid A- in my books. The salad had generous portions of every ingredient. The super thin bacon added an unbelievable amount of texture! And everything was chopped so nicely I simply ate it with a spoon. I would have actually preferred a touch less dressing to better taste the sweetness from the lettuce and the onions. Still, a strong A- The weakest link, though still very acceptable, was the cappuccino. A very generous serving but a little light on the coffee and probably too wet to be a cappuccino - it was more like a latte. Still enjoyed it and would definitely come again if in the area. read more

Food- 7 of us went and everyone loved the food. The highlights were Communal Avocado Toast, Oatmeal, Sweet Mint Cold Brew, and the Matcha Latte. I like that you could build orders and add items like an egg or sausage. Their menu is excellently labeled for vegan/vegetarian/gluten/nuts which makes it way easier to order. This place is adorable and everyone we interacted with was polite/friendly. This is a dream spot in my opinion for big groups because they have the space and you can pay for items separately, so no splitting the check convos at the end of the meal. We stayed for quiet a while and never felt rushed to give up the table. I like being able to order from the counter or from the QR code, also the line moved quickly. I will absolutely go back and look forward to trying more menu items. Why not 5 stars? A single glass of champagne took over 15 minutes, two coffee drinks took over 20 minutes. Our food came out with no forks/knives/napkins. It took us a while to find someone to get us cutlery, since at that time the register line was to the door. Yes we were there on a weekend but there were open tables and the staff was active but not slammed. Ordering through the QR code was helpful, however it wasn't clear which items they would carry to your designated table versus which items they would set on the counter for you to pick up. They have a self service water station which I appreciate but it was lukewarm water, no ice. It drips on the counter and there is no tray. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops to open up in Oceanside! The shop itself has such a cute aesthetic. It has lots of natural lighting, plant life, and cute little trinkets to browse around while you're waiting in line. It's also adjacent to a cute flower shop!! I've been here a number of times already, but I usually get their turkey pesto sandwich & whatever specialty lattes they have at the moment. Great space to get work done as long as it's not busy!! Another 3 cheers for Communal! I opted for a non-coffee drink this time and was delighted by the sweet potato hash with Brussel sprouts and an egg lightly seasoned on top. So good! I also had a crisp seasonal kombucha that was on tap. Really refreshing for the mid-morning. Communal's atmosphere and aesthetic is light and airy with a community feel. It's always busy, but never overcrowded which is a good sign. I don't mind waiting in line because they have the best merch to peruse while you wait! read more
