I was looking for bubble tea in Austin and found this place. The atmosphere in this cafe is quite interesting. I had no idea that Coco's had Taiwanese cuisine (perhaps i should take note of that the next time i go here!) Oh, and the bubble is was super good (coffee flavor). The Cafe also has cute little phone straps/phone charms for your mobile devices; i have a pink bunny with a little red heart on its belly, and it was about $4.99, quite expensive if you asked me! I really love the bubble tea here but I agree with almost everyone else, the food is not the highlight of this place. Their menu is quite extensive, with food ranging from the quite good onion pie to the questionable squid noodles, but don't bother messing your bubble tea craving up with food. I live in the neighborhood, so this whole strip mall becomes my default 'kitchen' many nights. Coco's is definitely in my rotation of places I hit up for to-go food pretty often. Peppercorn Shrimp is my favorite. The extra garlic, jalapenos and crunchy fried goodness that gets left behind is so delicious! I also enjoy their veggie dumplings and, of course, the boba tea! I like the taro one and passion fruit when I'm feeling fruity! The food always comes out hot and fast and I've never had them mess up any of my orders. This place has the best boba/pearls in Austin. The texture is perfect, not too hard or mushy. Just the right amount of softness. Their flavors are good too. One time I said jasmine tea instead of jasmine cream tea by mistake, and it was sweet enough that it didn't disappoint that there was no milk. I like the almond milk tea and the jasmine milk tea options. I can't speak to other options. I also love their peppercorn tofu, so delicious! Just don't go anywhere afterwards where you need good breath. You'll have a garlic breath, for sure. read more

We hadn't been here in a few years and as we walked in today I could tell that they've been doing well. The remodeled dining area looks great and the pictures of the different dishes and drinks that they offer are very helpful when ordering. The food and pearl drinks are still top notch and they even have complementary soup to enjoy before your meal arrives. Service was great, too. No complaints! read more

Terrible service, didn't get our green tea milk drink right and when asked to remake or get a refund, they refused saying that the drink was supposed to taste like jasmine green tea even though they have an entirely different option for that drink. They just mixed milk at the end manually by toppling the glasses. When we asked about it, they said this is he usual way of making. But we are regulars here, and we never saw this unethical method. This is my favorite place for bubble tea and Taiwanese shaved ice and I have been remiss in not reviewing it yet. My 11 year old and I are big bubble tea fans and we keep trying new places (mainly because we are hoping for something closer) but we have yet to find a place we like as much and regularly make the trek to Coco's. Their flavors are great and the boba is the perfect texture and sweetness. While my 11 year old and 15 year old prefer elsewhere for shaved ice because they prefer flavored ice, Coco's has the best toppings of any place I have tried and they serve it up quickly. Their red beans and sweetened barley are particularly good. I have only had a meal here once and while the main dish was not remarkable enough to stick in my mind, the complementary (with a meal not a drink) vegetarian soup is *amazing* and I am not ordinarily much of a soup fan. read more

By the the time I got through the unsolicited explanation, I didn't bother to think about toppings. Bubble tea! I've been to both locations and they consistently make superb bubble tea. Admittedly, I've never had it anywhere else, but Coco's can make several vegan bubble teas so they were my first. I like the chocolate mocha one the best, and I've had others there too. I had a fried tofu order at this location. I was surprised that I couldn't finish it (I can really throw back barrels of the stuff), and I think it was just too greasy. When I put the remainder aside, I found a pool of grease on one side of the container. Maybe if I had the tofu cooked into a dish it would be different, but just fried on its own isn't all that impressive. I'm against group drinks orders when going out and getting stuff for coworkers. It almost always ends in a mess. They have a seal on their bubble drinks that eliminate that concern. You could buy as many as you needed and be sure that they'd make it to the destination intact! I used to go to the location near campus while I was attending UT. Unfortunately, it's a hassle to park anywhere near that location. I was excited to finally try this location and I did not leave disappointed. I loved it. I highly recommend the almond milk tea with pearls. Awesome food and excellent smoothies. I always get the mocha smoothie with pearls (tapioca). Good mocha/coffee flavor. I often ask them to cool off the tapioca. If they put it in hot, it will start to melt the smoothie that is put in on top of it. Not a problem if you are eating right then but if you want it to stay cold longer it helps to have the tapioca go in cold. Especially if you are bring one back to the office for someone. Also the peppercorn chicken is excellent for lunch. Very crispy, good portion. Rice with some garlic/jalapenos in it is flavorful and great all by itself. Who ever finishes all their white rice? You will with this. The complimentary soup that comes with any purchase is also good. Put in all of the extras to spice it up, but careful on adding the green jalapeno peppers in the soy sauce, they are spicy! I'm a regular here. Only downside: The place is popular at lunch during the work week so get there early, or late, otherwise your food order cold take 20 minutes. But worth the wait! read more

I just ate there with my buddies. I was very excited about the ambiance. and it seemed hip and cool. I am vegetarian. So, I asked the guy what to get and I got what everyone eats which is jalapeno tofu. When my food arrived with my friends I looked onto my buddies plate loaded with fried chunks of pork that fill half her plate. Her husband had fried chicken overflowing his plate. So I take a bite of my popular dish and ALL I COULD TASTE WAS PORK. Deciding to be nice I didnt return it they were busy and my friend said she would take it to eat later because she loves meat. So she went up and asked for a to go box and mentioned my food. He said its because they use the same fryer. Yesterday around 5:40 pm, my significant other and I decided to give this cafe a try based on the appeal of their boba tea and the location being next to Ramen Tatsuya. While we were very satisfied with the taste of our boba tea, the customer service left much to be desired. When we arrived, it was filled with people yet wasn't very busy, my partner and I being the only ones in line. We hadn't quite decided what we wanted yet, so we went up to the counter and stepped aside while we began making our choice. After a couple of minutes, the cashier at the register appeared visibly annoyed that we were taking our time to ensure we made the selection that was best for us. While we continued to decide, one man and his child came in behind us, we offered to let him go in front of us but he declined. A few moments later, the employee looked over at us yelling in an irritated tone, "I can help the next customer!" almost as if to attempt to rush our choice. He then walked away, seeing that we were not yet ready to decide, and began talking another employee behind the counter. We eventually made our order with a slight special request, my partner ordering a mango smoothie with half boba, and myself ordering the honeydew smoothie with the full amount of boba. We received this order with the amount of boba being switched for us both. Seeing that it wasn't that big of a deal we decided to leave rather than risk irking the cashier with the mix up. Granted this all happened in the course of a few minutes, the atmosphere became a bit less welcoming with this interaction, leading us to almost not make a purchase. We understand we shouldn't form our idea of this business based on one aggravated employee, but it was a bit disheartening to feel like a bother when we were just weighing our options for beverages at the end of an enjoyable out of town trip. I only go here for their smoothies. Never tried any of their food. Price is a bit high for a regular cup. The chairs and table are very uncomfortable to sit in. Environment is kinda dark and dingy and out dated. Music is so loud, you would think your at a club downtown. Service is good and fast. But sometimes they don't fill up my smoothie all the way, sometimes Its not even full all the way. They need to properly assemble a waiting to order line, a cash out line , a waiting line. because whenever I would come in, there would be a bunch of people near the order station, which is also the check out and waiting station. I was brought here by my friends on a visit to Austin from So Cal and we truly are spoiled in Los Angeles where there is the best, authentic, Taiwanese food ever, including milk tea. I used to eat here frequently when I lived in Austin. Now Coco's is a place that I enjoy stopping by when I visit Austin. They have a large variety of Tapioca Pearl teas, and many food choices. For food, some great choices are the Onion Pies (wonderful if you enjoy green chives), Spiced Eggs (think Lipton Tea Flavored eggs with a hint of spice), or Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. Coco's is authentically Taiwanese food and super tasty. If you're not into the whole asian food cuisine, there is always the option of ordering Coco's Chicken Nuggets. read more
