Cute spot in Asian town in Austin. This place is perfectly located in an area surrounded by Asian food. The parking is packed on the weekends so you may need to fight for parking. We went on a Saturday night and there was a line forming to order. They serve Taiwanese food that consists of rice and noodles for the entrees. I wanted to try a little bit of everything so I ordered three different appetizers: fried dumplings, scallion pancake(half size), and fried chicken. They also have bubble tea here so I got a green tea with rainbow jelly (my go to). It's great that you can get food and bubble tea together. Surprise was the little Winnie the Pooh/Piglett and Minnie/Mickey macaroons. I couldn't resist the temptation of cuteness and deliciousness. Food was delicious! Help yourself to dipping sauces and soup located in the back. I really liked the pickled jalapeños in soy sauce with my scallion pancake because the pancake was a bit dry. Really enjoyed this place, was able to get in and out in a few minutes with some bubble tea to go. I got their almond milk tea with boba, which I would highly recommend, but what's really great here is that you are welcome to try different options. I'm a little picky, and had this not been offered to me, I wouldn't have bothered trying the one I ended up getting. There are 2 drink sizes: 16oz and 20oz, and I got the smaller one. There was ice in the drink, but not too much which was nice. They were out of their mango option when i went, which might have been because it was 30 min before closing time, but the staff was nice and helpful. They also had a bunch of other ads-ins, in addition to boba. The tapioca pearls themselves where really good too! Great place! The drinks are really good. We got them to go, but there is a nice little indoor dining area as well. They are requiring masks for ordering (not while eating of course), which is definitely a plus for me. I never really realized this place served food. I always see it next door to Din Ho's but never walked in, until recently. My husband is a fan of their peppercorn chicken. I thought it was going to be like salt and pepper chicken, but it is more like popcorn chicken. There is a light, bubbly batter surrounding it and it is lightly fried. Comes with some soy-based dipping sauce. It was pretty tasty, and I'd like to come back to try the peppercorn shrimp. I loved the green onion pie. Definitely try that as an appetizer. I have so many great memories and associations with cocos cafe. Prior to entering undergrad, cocos (off the drag) was my first restaurant to eat at during my freshman orientation. Throughout my college years, this was my go to place for their fried chicken with rice, green onion pie, and bubble tea. I even worked here during my junior year of college. I will never get tired of this place. I can always count on this place to taste consistently the same. Just the other day, I came for fried chicken with rice, green onion pie, vegetable soup (free with an entree order), and almond milk tea with egg pudding. I stopped by here for a quick dinner and was surprised they sold rice ball. That's a common Taiwanese street snack...like salt/pepper chicken. Really excited, I ordered it, pickled veggies, and a milk tea with boba...thinking I'm going to have me a Taiwanese snack feast, without the street. What happened is, when you bring Taiwan to Texas, the drink is too sweet (can be easily solved by ordering "light sugar"), boba slightly over cooked (better than undercooked, I guess), the veggie extremely salty (can't solve that), and the rice ball so tough it's like chewing a rubber ball. Good thing is, after eating much of the innards of the rice ball, the pickled veggie didn't taste so salty anymore. Still, don't order if you don't want hypertension. read more

I have come here whenever I go to the restaurants nearby (aka Tatsuya or Julie's). I always get the classic milk tea with boba which is good, but nothing special. I have heard their actual food is good but I've never tried it before myself. They do have good customer service - once, I decided to try out an almond milk tea and it turned out to not be what I was expecting at all. When I brought it back up they exchanged it with a classic milk tea, free of charge. This past visit, my friends and I got the fried rolls in condensed milk (not sure if that's the exact name). There are 3 rolls in one order. They are definitely unhealthy but so GOOD ahaha. They taste like those Chinese buffet sugar rolled donuts but with condensed milk instead of sugar. The best of the rare Taiwanese food places in town. I don't know who else in Austin has shaved ice, but it's good, considering there's no real alternative. But if you compare to places in Houston, this place is okay at best. Recently, their prices have gone up substantially. I guess when you have the market for Taiwanese food and shaved ice cornered, you can do that. Maybe that'll promote some competition. But probably not. Coco's cafe is a boba drink and eats chain in the Austin area. I used to tag along with my boba loving friends to the location on Guadalupe St by the UT campus. This coco's lies in a crowded Asian market area by 183. It's a nice setup with plenty tables and chairs, but prepare for the line to order at the counter to weave all around the store. I ordered the avocado smoothie with pearls. The smoothie was a bit chunky and flavorless but still refreshing. I like how the taste was more fruity and less sugary than other avocado milk teas I've had (usually get 30% sugar), which suggests that they used real avocado when making it. For a large bowl you get to choose 4 toppings and its topped with ice and condensed milk. Very tasty and cheap. Now its not your traditional Korean shaved ice so don't expect that when you order. It will not look like their picture and the cashier will even tell you that. I love this place. I have only been once so far but I am hoping to return! The boyfriend and I got a Strawberry and Cappuccino. We personally found the Strawberry one a little too sweet, however the Cappuccino one was amazing. There is a wide variety of drinks, which I like 'cause I will probably try some different ones. I live close and yet I've never ventured to Cocos. It's just always put off that vibe for me but on a Sunday night when I was desperate for something Asian, Cocos was open. So we made our acquaintance. The teen behind the counter was really patient as I asked about this and that and he pointed at the pics on the wall (genius) and gave me the skinny. After ordering a green onion pancake and some peppercorn tofu, I helped myself to the complimentary soup. Flavorful, with watermelon in it (though not sweet) and other unidentified floating objects. Added some sriracha and made my mouth buzz in eager anticipation for what was to come next. I took the whole shebang to go and sat down to a proverbial feast. Small is one thing these portions are not. I was eating that pancake for days. The peppercorn tofu was piping hot, with great flavor though kind of a funny consistency. I'm sure also that Ive never been confronted with a huge container of tofu before. First time for everything! I'm glad Coco's and I are now friends and that I know where to go get my Taiwanese caloric fix. And maybe one day they'll share the recipe for that gorgeous green onion pancake. read more
