As we were walking by Cafe Maiko,…read morethe matcha-themed menu immediately caught our attention, as none of us can resist a good matcha treat. Originally, I was planning to order a matcha latte, but one person in our group was craving ice cream while another wanted tapioca. Thankfully, we found the perfect compromise: a matcha soft serve topped with tapioca that managed to satisfy everyone's cravings in a single order. I was pleasantly surprised by how bold the matcha flavor was. It had a rich, authentic matcha taste without feeling overly heavy or bitter, and the soft serve itself was smooth and refreshing. The tapioca was another pleasant surprise. Even sitting on top of the ice cream, the pearls remained wonderfully chewy rather than hardening, which is something I've experienced at other shops. Overall, it was a simple treat that really hit the spot. If you're a matcha lover looking for a refreshing dessert, Cafe Maiko is definitely worth a stop.

This place is a kiosk located on the second floor of the Valley Fair Mall, and you are expected to order through a kiosk. First time customers get a small discount (which you can access by pressing a button on their ordering screen) which is pretty cool. I decided to get the Coffee Cold Foam with Kyoto Matcha. The cold foam didn't look as I expected (normally they place it on the top rather than around the cup) but it was fine. The cup design was pretty cute and unique compared to other places. As for the drink itself, it was fine. Although I ordered 50% sweetness on the matcha, it didn't taste sweet at all. However, the coffee foam was sweet enough to make up for it so I'll let it slide (in hindsight, it was probably favorable that there was no sweetness in the matcha at all). The small boost of caffeine also kept me energetic enough to get through the rest of the day, which was a nice bonus. Overall, an alright experience. Wouldn't mind going back again if other areas in the mall are busy.

It tasted exactly as described, with both the lychee and jasmine flavors coming through nicely, and it wasn't overly sweet. However, I'm not sure the combination worked for me personally, and there was a bit too much lychee jelly for my liking. 4/5 Service was fast and efficient. Despite a small crowd ahead of me, I got my drink in under 5 minutes, which was impressive. JUST OKAY 2.5…read more We were quite thirsty from a mix of warm weather and a full day of shopping at Valley Fair Mall. We hadn't noticed this kiosk before and decided to give this place a try. Ordering is done entirely through a touchscreen pad. At first, we weren't even sure they were open because there was no employee in sight. A few other customers were lingering nearby looking just as perplexed. We browsed the menu and took our chances. There were quite a few drinks and snacks that read, "Sold Out"; close to half the menu. I ended up ordering a Tropical Dream (pineapple slushee, fresh pineapple, agar boba and mint). After placing our order, we wandered around the surprisingly large kiosk but still couldn't find anyone working. The entire preparation area is enclosed behind frosted plexiglass panels, making it impossible to watch your drink being made. Personally, I enjoy seeing the preparation process, not only because it's interesting, but also because it gives me a sense of the cleanliness and care being taken. Here, everything was completely hidden from view. My husband even tried peeking over the partition for a glimpse, which felt a little awkward. After a few minutes, someone did appear with our order. Mine was okay. It tasted like pineapple and I did love the crystal boba. I drank about a quarter of it, then tossed it. Maybe it was too sweet. I just couldn't justify drinking my calories for a drink that was merely okay. Calories are meant to be savored and enjoyed.

I am writing to express my extreme dissatisfaction with the service I received at your establishment today. Before placing my order, I specifically confirmed with your staff that a large drink could be split into two smaller cups for my children. Despite their verbal agreement, the execution was entirely unacceptable. The staff displayed a complete lack of basic service standards and common sense. Instead of mixing the drink in a standard cup before splitting it, they poured the concentrated strawberry syrup (ton of it), ice and boba into one cup and plain milk (no ice) with one scoop of syrup (after I pointed out that all the syrup is in the other cup. Furthermore, I overheard a staff member instructing the person preparing the drink in Mandarin to "not fill up both cups," despite the fact that I was paying for the full volume of a large drink. Even after I addressed them in Mandarin to point out that one cup was purely syrup and the other was plain milk, they refused to correct the mistake and handed me two undrinkable cups. I have ordered split cups many times at other establishments like Happy Lemon, where they manage this simple request perfectly (and I don't mind paying extra for split cups). The level of incompetence and intentional poor service I witnessed today was shocking. I strongly suggest management review the video footage of this transaction. It clearly shows the staff's incompetence to provide the product as promised. Because the item provided was not what was paid for, I will be disputing this charge with my bank. I expect a formal response regarding how this situation will be rectified and how your staff will be trained to avoid such ridiculous errors in the future. read more

A couple of tables and chairs were set out for folks to sit and enjoy their drinks, and a gentle breeze blew down the walk. I ordered the #8 Combination soy pudding drink and waited while the lady made the drink for me. She handed the drink to me with a smile, and I told her that it was beautifully made. Indeed, the drink was beautiful to look at. Spoonfuls and spoonfuls of soy tofu mixed with sweet syrup and Japanese pudding. Layered on top was the green pandan jelly, gelled basil seed, grass jelly, and red bean, all topped with shaved ice. I took my first sip. The soft silken tofu was the main event, very cool and balanced by the creamy pudding and sweet syrup. I lifted my straw higher to pull in more toppings, and the sweet floral pandan landed on my tongue. The grass jelly followed after, tender and al dente. Gelled basil seeds slid past, and I enjoyed their soft crunch between my teeth. The red bean was soft and starchy, with a hint of sweetness that rounded out the cast of toppings. Not too sweet, with a variety of flavors and textures to delight the tongue, my combination drink from Soyful Desserts was a cup of wonder. I found that Soyful Desserts creates joyful desserts, and mine definitely warmed my heart. When I'm craving soy tofu drinks again, I'll be back for more.
