I've been here on several occasions, and clever koi is always a solid dining option especially for their happy hour deals. This most recent visit we got the tuna chips, black bean pancakes, confit wings and pork belly buns. For a drink, I got the French 75 which was good and we later shared the scorpion bowl which was strong but easy to drink and more on the fruity side. The tuna chips are always good, light take on nachos with tuna and rice chips. The black bean pancakes were a surprising new find for me. They were very flavorful with a good spice and vegan! Pork buns and wings were solid too, pork buns melt in your mouth and the wings have a spicy element. Service is always good, they're always willing to help you make the right menu decisions and ambience is trendy. read more

Customer service is amazing. Great staff. It had a lovely atmosphere and cute patio. Ramen has a lot of flavor (really salty), noodles weren't over cooked, and i loved the mushrooms added to it. The chasu is hard to chew but yummy. read more

My son's fav place to take me when I come to town to visit. Friendly staff, and good, attentive, and quick service. We ordered several items (sticky buns and dumplings) leading up to the pork ramen; all of it was wonderful. Ambiance is simple yet warm. Definitely recommend. read more

Went here for my birthday lunch with some friends. She made reservations but they're not needed. Not much parking spaces outside but luckily it's next to a parking garage. I ordered the steamed buns, 2 pork belly and 1 soft shell crab. I enjoyed the pork belly but not so much the soft shell. The soft shell crab itself was delicious but it just didn't work for me being in the bun. My gf's both ordered the ramen. I could not really tell if they liked it or not? Looked good! Either way, great place to dine but so many places in the area that I still need to try. read more

We recently met at Clever Koi to celebrate 2 individuals promotions. Our server was not very good. We had to wave over other servers for water or a 2nd cocktail. It was Sunday at 5pm and not that busy. My husband ordered the XO noodles and asked to add the chicken thigh to the dish. The food came out with dry chicken breast and they left out the pork! Overall we like the food and setting. However, when the temps get to the 80-90's extra water is appreciated. read more

The variety of food choices are great. Whether you're eating in or taking out, try this place. Best Pad Thai and don't forget the banana fritters. The bar has an interesting selection of specialty cocktails and they switch them up often. This is a must try! read more

Came here for a birthday and were disappointed by food quality. Appetizers were good: bao, tuna chips, calamari--hard to mess up. We had to send back chow mein as it was way too salty. I never send back food but almost did the same w xo noodles -- salt, msg and chili was the only taste in this seafood dish. I felt sick all night afterwards. Chicken ramen broth was more like a gravy -- so thick and fatty. And the soft boiled egg was very undercooked. She also felt sick. Dad ate all the shaking beef which looked decent. Cocktails looked good but didnt drink. Good ambience but won't be going back. Tables were too high from the booths. read more

The service here was good and the food was mediocre. Majority of my group ordered ramen. It was pretty amusing when we asked about hot sake. They claimed that they don't serve hot sake because it's not traditional. From that being said, My bf ordered a study in emerald and my friend ordered a sake. Both drinks were average, you really can't go wrong with drinks. All in all, it is worth a try! read more

A cute place to check out in downtown Gilbert. There is parking in front or at the parking garage right next door. It offers up a bit of Asian fusion and a nice cocktail bar. THey have a dog-friendly patio right outside as well. You can make reservations in advance and the inside is very cute for a date night or fun night with friends. They have a happy hour during the weekdays as well. They cocktail menu is extensive and has lots of fun treats and flavors from passion fruit to even a Thai tea cocktail. In addition, you can get wine and beer including Sapporo. They have some items to share like calamari fries on the menu. THere are also some dumplings like a short rib dumpling and then bao to choose from. For entrees there are some ramen dishes followed by noodles and rice dishes like a kimchi fried rice. You are served with two signature sauces on the side that my husband was obsessed with. We tried the pork belly and fried chicken bao to start. The bun was good, chicken okay, but the pork was way over cooked. For entrees we tried to the spice ramen and pork belly ramen. Very large portions and came with eggs which was a nice change compared to others charging extra for this. The pork was once again over cooked and a bit to tough to each. The spicy ramen was full of flavor. We ended up taking some back for lunch. Definitely interested in coming back for a cocktail or two. read more

I like the new vibe of the restaurant in the up and coming Gilbert AZ area. The food was just OK however. The chicken in the miso chicken ramen wasn't very good. The whole dish was so so. I've had much better ramen elsewhere. We had the soft shell crab steamed buns. The buns didn't have much flavor at all and the crab was a bit fishy. The sriracha sauces were good. Kind of saved the day actually. The service was poor, not friendly, just going through the motions. No one ever came by to ask how we were doing or if the food was good. Also, they charge you a service fee for kitchen staff. That's just BS. I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately won't go back. read more

A large group of us came here for a post brunch meal and drinks. First thing I noticed is that the staff was very friendly and accommodating. All of us checked into yelp and got a free steam bun, but they happily honored this for all of us. Secondly, the scorpion bowl (alcoholic punch) is usually only available at the bar, but they happily served it to us at the table. It was quite tasty as well. Overall a pretty positive experience and we will probably come back some time. read more

Ate here for the first time last night & we can't wait to come back. Food was great and the staff were SO friendly. Our pork belly bun (delicious, btw) was a little late coming out of the kitchen so the waiter comped it for us without us even asking (we wouldn't have asked). read more

Let me start with the best part... Great Ambiance!! The service is Nice. We loved the calamari!! I can say it's one of the best we had. Pork bun was good. Spicy kimchi Ramen was ok... not wonderful. I was really craving for dumplings, but I was disappointed with the Pig face dumplings. They're very oily, that I could feel the taste of oil alone. From my next dumpling, I had to cut off the sides to avoid oil. $6 for sparkling water was really shocking for me.. like really..?? $62 for 2 people- I must have chosen a better place read more

I am giving five stars. One item fell short and I will explain later. The service was excellent. The tuna chips, like ahi nachos on fluffy rice chips, were amazing. The server highly recommended them without being too pushy or overselling. They were awesome, and I am going back to have them again. The pork belly steamed bun was amazing! Perfectly cooked, a bit of crispiness yet moist and lovely. The hoisin sauce was good too. The soft shell crab steamed bun was really delicious on first bite, but I lost interest after that. It was really good though and I do recommend it. The Korean Fried Chicken ... I give a disclaimer that I go to Ktown in NYC and LA and eat KFC there, it's one of my favorite foods. So, if you are gonna call something Korean Fried Chicken, you better bring it. They don't. It's good, for fried chicken, but it's no KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). Also, I will have the bean pancake next time I return. I hear it's great. They need to have soju on the drink menu. It's the #1 selling liquor in the world and you have KFC and korean pancake on the menu. You must sell soju too. read more

I tried there Pork Ramen. The only thing that was good was then pork belly with the red sriracha sauce. The broth of the ramen did not event taste like ramen and the noddles were not too special. The kimchi was horrific. It was bad enough for me to spit it out and not eat the rest of any of it. The tastes was no where close to kimchi but the taste alone was just bad. This is the food review however I would give the service a 4.5 star. The younger lady was very kind and very accommodating. The GM was kind enough to pay for my ramen and give me an additional coupon for the future. I'll definite have to come back and try something new. And hopefully make a better review read more

Downtown Gilbert has changed so much in a great way, and it really is becoming our go-to place for dinners! Clever Koi has a low key atmosphere, perfect for an intimate date night or with a small group of friends. My husband & I have dined here a couple of times and were pleased with our experiences. From the menu items we've tried, we liked the Steamed Buns the best, especially the Soft Shell Crab one! The Soft Shell Crab is fried to be very light & crispy and it's topped with the right amount of toppings. They have a good number of shareable options along with full-sized entrees. My husband got the Grilled Octopus Curry & really enjoyed it. He said the Octopus was cooked well & the curry had great flavor! They offer options for Happy Hour & many drinks as well! Overall, one of our options to return to in the future. I think my favorite part is getting multiple small dishes & sharing! read more

This place is about ambience. Has a good atmosphere and vibe. However, I would say the food we ordered left us with mixed impressions. Kimchi fried rice was too salty , Cashew Vegetable Ramen was ok while the Soft Shell Crab Bun was particularly good. We also ordered a pina colada that tasted a little too sweet for our taste. Overall, might try it again if especially if we're looking to go out for drinks and some appetizers. read more

I came here for a friends birthday and I enjoyed the soup. I consider myself a soup connoisseur and this was good. Not the best but you can do much much worse. One of us had a more spicy seafood soup? Not sure what it was but that will be my order when I return. I prefer a kick. Overall this was a nice restaurant with good food and an awesome party drink called the Scorpion. Definitely turns head and enough to share, buck up and pick one up you won't regret it. read more

I love Clever Koi! It's a beautiful restaurant with the best pina coladas and pork ramen! 10/10!

Came here for the first time in awhile and was pleasantly surprised by their new menu! Our waiter, Seth was so friendly (literally the best!) and helpful in helping us decide what to eat. Highly recommend the Krazy fries to start! They were very cripsy and a good balance of sweet and salty with the hoisin and pork belly flavors. For my main, I decided on the Spicy Kimchi Ramen! This type of ramen is one you won't find at other restaurants. The spice was the perfect amount and the broth was well seasoned and flavorful. The kimchi balanced everything out. I do wish the egg was more runny though like how other ramen places do it! I got the Eye of the Chai-ger for my drink and it was the perfect coconut based drink to balance out the spice. A good drink to get when it's colder outside. The ambiance was very modern with dimmed lights for dinner. We ate outside and felt very cozy with the heaters! Overall a great experience at this restaurant and can't wait to come back! read more

Visited this location last night for dinner with the family. Let's start with the location.. location is great surrounded by other business, there's not many parking spaces but that's okay because there's a huge parking structure you can park at or even the dirt lot across the street, not a far walk. The ambience is so chill and a great vibe for a cool Friday night. I loved the candles lit on the table, the lighting inside was great. We had reservations at 8pm for a table of 5, and literally as soon as we walked in we were seated (which was awesome). Waitress came straight over with waters for us all. My mom and I ordered the Lemongrass Swizzle ($11 each, not too bad for a tall cocktail). We ordered 2 orders of the steamed buns with pork belly (3/12.50) which were amazing! I loved the crunchiness of the pork belly. For my main meal I had the pork ramen (15.00) the pork ramen was okay quite honestly. The flavor of the broth tasted really bland to me. The pork belly and pulled pork really complimented the meal. Overall, it was a great place. The waitress was sooo nice and very attentive to our needs. read more

This is an updated review of my previous review. Shortly after I detailed my dining experience at the Gilbert location, the owners reached out and invited me to try alternative dishes, taking into consideration that I have a more traditional palate when it comes to Korean food. Off the bat, I was impressed that they showed interest in turning my disappointing encounter into a positive one. Their invitation was sincere and humble. This time I took my teenage daughter with me to help me navigate through the various flavors. I'm happy to say I was pleasantly surprised the second time around. As I said before, the restaurant is beautiful and trendy, great vibes. Our server was attentive and polite, and again, we had excellent service. Nick, one of the owners, shared some insight on how they decided on an Asian fusion theme, which was interesting. You can tell he really cares about creating a unique and special culinary adventure for the every day patron. I ordered duck Curry on brown rice, which was amazing. Not too spicy, just enough kick. My daughter ordered kimchi fried rice, which she enjoyed. We had three steamed buns as an appetizer. Those were a treat--the bun is so fluffy and soft, feels like you just bit into a cloud! My favorite was the crab steamed bun. It's official. I have decided that I will be back again. The "Clever Koi" has convinced me that they deserve props when it comes to paying homage to traditional Asian dishes, but with a modern twist. read more

Ambiance was cool! Service was great and food was good! The family and I would definitely return.

The food is incredible here. We've been quite a few times and it's always been A+. Would highly recommend.

I great place to spend the afternoon with a good friend or two. We enjoyed everything the had. Drinks were smooth. Appetizers delish - calamari, short rib dumplings in broth, and buns (pork belly, soft shell crab, spicy chicken). I had Thai salad with crispy pork belly. Salad heaven. My fiend had the XO noodles. Right amount of shrimp with baby scallops. A delightful time was had. read more

The customer service here is great, and the food and drinks were good too! We'll be coming back

At first I was nervous - I don't tend to risk it too much with Asian food, but I loved every piece of dinner here. When we walked in, we were immediately seated. The staff brought waters within a minute of us sitting down. The waiter thoroughly explained the menu of options available, and provided his recommendations on the best entrées they have. The atmosphere was very clean yet unique. It definitely had an Asian zing to it. It was quiet, easy to engage in conversations with. They have indoor and outdoor seating. And we did not feel rushed. The staff kept refilling our drinks and allowing us to feel comfortable while we engaged in conversation for a while after we finished dinner. I will definitely be back and will tell friends about Clever Koi. read more
