The cream cheese, tomato and dill toast.... omg. Take me back. I have to start by saying that I'm not a huge fan of this whole toast fad that's going around -- I mean, give or take $8-$10 for toast with an egg or avocado or whatever is just a little much for my tastes. BUT, I broke my own rule when we came here because the dill/cream cheese mix caught my eye and I wanted a little more than a muffin or scone (which they also looked amazing). My boyfriend got the bacon egg and cheese toast. Let's set this scene by saying we thought he would literally get an egg, slice of bacon and slice of cheese on top and I thought mine would just be a spread but we were WRONG. My toast was the perfect blend of cream cheese, dill, red onion and spices with spinach and tomato on top and it absolutely blew me away. His was an actual scrambled bacon egg and cheese mix -- super cheesy -- with a little bite to it (maybe jalapeño?) but not too much. He was very impressed. The coffee was great here as well and the setting was very interesting. No laptops on the weekend, which encouraged lots of readers in the area. The walls were windows, so I imagine this spot is amazing in the warmer months where the entire sides can be opened up to the street. read more

It's been over five years since I first tried this place, and since they have moved into a glorious new space (with AC!) I thought it was time for an update: The food is just as great as ever, my current love is the breakfast burrito, but that's kind of an ongoing thing with me everywhere lately. Baked goods are phenomenal, and the staff is friendly and personable every time. I have to say, though, that seeing the cow's milk on the counter when I go to pick up my coffee is always a sad punch in the gut at this otherwise vegan place. This bakery is adorable but we ordered a custom cake and it was terrible. It was gluey and dense and the cake itself was flavorless. The icing was fine and the cake looked beautiful but it tasted awful and I have had delicious vegan birthday cakes. It was pretty embarrassing at my son's birthday party: no one ate their cake. The previous day, when we picked up the cake at the bakery, we also ordered a biscuit with sun dried tomatoes and cheese and it was raw inside. A nice idea but you have to check for doneness with an internal temp reading for some of these finicky vegan baked goods. Alas, my son will return to allowing me to bake his vegan cakes next year. I wish the cake hadn't been horrible but I think it was the second to worse cake I've ever had in my life, and I've been eating cake for half a century. Gives vegan cakes a bad reputation. read more

I have lived in BedStuy for 5 years now. I want to love Clementine, I've come here several times hoping for a better experience but I've been disappointed almost every time. And it's not an experience that is just exclusive to me, my friends have experienced the same issue. The kitchen staff is HORRIBLE. There is always an issue with my order. Sometimes they are out of an ingredient and don't even tell you, sometimes they will jus blatantly "forget" an ingredient that is supposed to in the item, and then best of all is when you ask for a modification and they can't even keep up with that. It's sad because I want to love this place, but I cannot pay $12 for a burrito that has only tofu and six leaves of spinach. How do you consciously put a PILE air tofu on a wrap and just hand it off? I don't get it. Avoid this place if you don't want to be ripped off. read more

When I placed the order I wanted a pistachio croissant and latte and asked if They could toast the croissant and the cashier flat out said "no" not a "sorry, we don't toast croissants" it was a simple "no" and her answer was so short that it came off rude. I was so taken aback lol. I have a bakery down the street from my house and they toast pastries for me with no hesitation especially if it's been sitting out for a bit. Delicious :) Ordered a vegan tiramisu cake for a birthday and it was delicious!!! A little too sweet and the inside the center was very moist and edges that met the frosting dry - but perhaps it needs to sit out and warm up before serving? (It was more of an actual cake compared to traditional tiramisu) But even with those small tweaks it was delicious! We also got cupcakes and I tried the red velvet and cookies and cream! Snagged one of their vegan pies for thanksgiving and I am so excited! While inside I picked up the s'mores cookie, cream cheese brownie, & tiramisu cupcake. The s'mores cookie was insane. Can't believe it's vegan! Cream cheese brownie was a bit odd for me personally, but the tiramisu cupcake was insane. Everything looks smells and tastes amazing. I can't speak to any other products at this bakery, but the cake was outstanding. After years of bad birthday cakes (like much worse than just picking up an Abe's from Whole Foods Market), this one was a winner. And they were flexible about decorating it for my toddler, too. Was pretty easy, relatively reasonable, given the going rate, and I'm looking forward to having a last piece that was frozen and saved for me when I return to my mother-in-law's. They sell vegan soft serve!!!! The ambiance of the place is very light and bright. Didn't try any of the pastries but I really enjoyed the soft serve that was vanilla. I must admit that even though it was vanilla it tasted like coconut but I'm not complaining. read more

We bought a vegan cake for my friend's birthday. It was dry, dense, inedible. And around $100. No one at the party could eat it after trying the first bite. It tasted like a kid had baked it for a school project. We were shocked at how crude the whole thing was, from the nasty texture (coarse, dense, dry) to the horrid taste (sugary flour) to the presentation. We got the pink cake and it was such a crude color, a tacky hot pink. We were embarrassed to present it as the birthday cake at our friend's party. But it was the only cake we had. Literally no one ate it. Giant slices sat on plates with one bite missing from each, no more. We threw everything away, including the entirety of the cake itself after dinner. How can they serve such cheap disgusting garbage and charge so much money for it--and get away with it? Do not make the same mistake we did. Never going back here again for anything. read more

The good: both the savory food and sweets are terrific. I've gotten most of the sandwiches - my favorite is the Shmancy. The baked goods are a hit with vegans and nonvegans alike. I've had them make a custom gluten free cake for a friend and it was also delicious - you'd never know it wasn't gluten free. The bad: the cafe is a really unpleasant place to dine in, and -in my opinion- management really needs to do something about the hoards of people on their laptops who take up all the tables, talk at top volume on their phones, and generally make this feel like an open plan office and not a place to eat ( see also: photo of someone's laptop cord stretched halfway across the cafe). Today I was in to eat and stayed for an hour. All of the indoor tables except the communal table were full of people on laptops. None of them moved the entire hour I was there. None of them ordered food, either, which makes me wonder how the cafe is making money when a significant portion of the clientele seems to use this place as their auxiliary office. I saw a couple people peek in and leave after seeing the tables were full, too, so not just me who is put off by this. I come here a few times a month but after tripping on someone's laptop cord today am finally writing a review. Why not limit laptop users to the communal table, put in a two hour limit for tables, or even - gasp- get rid of the WiFi so people can enjoy this as a cafe? Other cafes have done some or all of this - it's nothing radical. I enjoy their food and want to support vegan businesses but won't be eating in again unless the atmosphere improves. read more

Updating my review to reflect that in the hot summer weather we had last week, they had set up an ice cream window at their wholesale entrance just a little down the block from the cafe entrance. Vegan ice cream for $2.50 a scoop!!! I think the flavors cycle through periodically (they had 3 on the day I went). Again, I'm not vegan but the mango ice cream was so creamy AND light/refreshing that I literally couldn't tell it was vegan. It was just the perfect treat on a 90° day. The guy at the counter said that the mango was made with a coconut milk base and that the mint chocolate chip and the other flavor available had a cashew base. SO, basically, in conclusion: the best mango ice cream I've had... ever. Hands down, no contest! read more

This is a lovely space. I'm a Pratt student, and this is one of my go-to cafes for food, work, food and work, or just to chill. The green ambiance is makes me feel calm with windows all around and hanging plants everywhere, even amongst the mid-day chatter customers. There are so many vegan and gluten-free options that actually taste delicious. Everyone who works here is so friendly and really do make sure you have a pleasant experience, whether you're grabbing a lavender loaf on the go or sitting down to sip on an ice-cold oat latte. If you do decide to stay awhile to work here, make sure your laptop or other device is charged, as there aren't too many outlets. Definitely will keep coming back. read more

This cute little spot brought me lot of joy during the 2020 COVID pandemic. I always recommended this spot when people asked around, until today. I got an unpleasant surprise by their staff not allowing me to enter and use the ATM because they were out of business hours, which I can understand but the way they spoke to me was very rude and condescending. Very cool hipster cafe to dine at. I got the Kail Caesar Salad with Tempeh Bacon. All I'm gonna say is......... HOW CAN TEMPEH BACON BE BETTER THAN REAL BACON?!?!?!?! It blew my mind! I almost wish I had a plateful of that stuff lol. That was the highlight of the whole dish for me. They seem to have a great selection of pastries and cakes as well. After I tried one of their cupcakes (Maple Pecan) from a co-worker I instantly wanted to check out the bakery for myself. Clementines offers an assortment of pastries but they also offer sandwiches. A lot of their items are soy based from what I can see so this might not be something for everyone; they do offer gluten free options as well. I bought half a dozen of their cupcakes for New Years. I found that they had some of the same options with slight differences to them in terms of appearance which I assuming differentiates, whether they are gluten free. They are reasonably priced for a vegan bakery at $4.5 per cupcake, coffee is also not bad (but of course depends on what you're getting), their sandwiches were as to be expected for the neighborhood around $7+ (I don't like that they are heavily substitute meats and cheese based; I personally like when people make vegan options out of veggies and nuts and are not overly processed). They have day old pastries in a basket for $1.50. I tried their pumpkin bread which is not too sweet, the crust at the top is sprinkled with sugar so to take that bit off if you want it less sweet. First time I came here was to pick up a vegan birthday cake for my friend. I ordered a chocolate with vanilla and it was really good! even our non vegan friends were asking where I got it from. Recently, I went back because I wanted to try all the vegan savory goodness that they have and I wasn't disappointed. I got kale bacon cashew cream danish, Which was delicious!! Also got tempeh bacon scone and, a cookie and cream cupcake. All the savory food was delicious, sadly the cupcake wasn't great. Overall, definitely go it's a great vegan bakery. The man working the counter proceeded to ignore all three of us patiently waiting on the line for over 15 minutes as he chatted away on the phone.. yes! That long. I made eye contact with him, to see if something was up? Or if I should come back later? Were they closed? What did I get back from him? A dismissive eye roll. Yes. A dismissive annoyed look shot at me and then some more ignoring. That's what I get for my patronage. This kind of behavior can't be good for business. Everything that I've had here has been incredibly delicious. So good, that I'd marry the baker(s) to get dibs on the goodies. Out of all the goodies: muffin, scone, danish, cookie, blondie and cake. My favoritest is the pumpkin coffee cake!! That shiz was holler back status. Like the other goods here - it was moist, packed with flavor and not overly sweet unlike most vegan bakeries. And the coffee flavored crumbs on top was mighty taassttyy. I can't even imagine how good their cinnamon roll is if that's what they're known for. Also looking forward to trying their pumpkin pie.
