We finally made it to Modern Love. It's been on my list for years now because Isa Chandra is like the OG vegan chef. We happened to get there during brunch for our first visit, which was great because it was a mix of both lunch and breakfast options. We split one main dish from each part of the menu. The Tofu Benedict was the best Benedict I've ever eaten IN MY LIFE, and also top three best breakfasts I've ever had. The smoked tomato is what makes that dish extra special. The rosemary home fries on the side were also incredible and I'm really picky when it comes to potatoes. We also split the Chickpea Parm sandwich but I was so full that I ended up taking a majority of my half sandwich home. Which was perfect because it was even better cold! The Italian flavors mixed with the savory chickpea patty and the bitter greens was just perfect. The only thing that wasn't great (not docking any stars for this) was dessert. We ordered the Strawberry "Tiramisu." I'm putting Tiramisu in quotes because I detected no espresso and no cinnamon. It was super bland. I let my husband eat most of it. Would not order that again. I am looking forward to returning! The wait staff were really friendly, the ambiance was super pretty, and food came out super fast and hot. Perfection.
Modern Love is where I'd love to call home. If I'm ever lost, just look first to see if I'm at Modern Love. I love it here. Everything about it. I don't eat meat, so I'm always obsessed with the opportunity to have... EVERYTHING on a menu. Came here on a Friday night, my boyfriend and our 2 friends. One of our friends is gluten free, like super duper gluten free, so we appreciated the added measure that Modern Love cooks every gluten free item in separate fryers. They really assured her about that detail. The layout of the restaurant is sleek and inviting, kind of like open floor plan and communal but dimly lit enough to feel sexy. EVERYTHING on the menu is unbelievable. When I ate meat, one of my fav things were buffalo wings and Modern Love has scratched the itch, folks. The seitan wings are ummm... unreal. GF friends, the cauliflower wings are also 10/10. Don't even get me started on the chicken parm hero. It's actually against the law how good this is. I've been here now 4 times and it is always a hit. Obviously I'll be back :)
I'm not a full time vegan but I do enjoy a vegan experience. The lasagna was a special and I would've never guessed it was vegan and probably one of the best lasagna dishes I've had. The tomato sauce was robust. The "cheese" matched the texture and taste of real cheese. Definitely would more from the menu if I ever have the opportunity.
I'm not vegan, so I don't often eat vegan food, but this meal was really enjoyable! My vegan friend took me here, and I'm so glad she did. I got the fetuccine alfredo, and I honestly have been craving it recently... I need to go back! The sauce was so thick and rich, and the noodles were cooked to al dente perfection. The garlic bread was also delicious, and I appreciated the side arugula salad that balanced out the heaviness of a pasta meal. I also got a glass of their chardonnay, which was so lovely and buttery. My friend and I shared the walnut brownie, which was topped with a scoop of ice cream, and that was such a delicious way to end our meal. I really enjoyed this meal, and even though I'm not vegan myself, I think I will definitely be back!
Have been to this establishment a few evenings and probably will be coming back. Lol The service and staff are always nice and checking in to make sure all is well. The space is nice a bit tight on the table size but it's New York lol not that much space to go around to begin with. So I have my defs that I always get. The nachos! They are tried and true! Please never get rid of those lol. The hot honey chick'n sandwich...delish and the sauce they use...is drool worthy. Always scrapping up the sauce with the side of fries. The kale salad is good as well. They have new items that pop up here and there. Tried the mushroom chick'n once and it was okay imo. If you are in bklyn and are looking for a vegan joint....this is it!
Yes! Tried another popular vegan spot for the first time. Took a couple of friends with me, non vegans but supportive lol We walked in & were digging the nice vibes, interior was cute with dimmed lighting, etc. Drinks were ok though, on the weaker side. Food: two out of the three dishes were so yummy. The third was tasteless, bland, just all around disappointing to be honest. My friend barely ate which made me feel horrible. They really dropped the ball on this dish. Our waitress was pleasant aswell. Enjoy!!
Great vegan food! We were visiting NY and wanted to find a decent vegan food and we found it at Morden Love! The staff is friendly/informative and have great suggestions. Honestly the tofu chicken sandwich stood out as a must have and we were not wrong! The sandwich is crispy not overly greasy and the slaw is delicious. I would highly suggest only having the sandwich in the restaurant because the slaw can get the bun a little soggy and you do not want to miss the flavors with a texture issue. We also tried the Brussels sprouts, amazing, really great flavor and perfectly cooked. We finalized our meal with two scoops of ice cream- peanut butter and strawberry great texture and flavor. Ambiance was relaxed and the restaurant was clean (including the bathroom). Overall if you are a local or looking for a great vegan spot when you are in town I highly suggest stopping by and trying it out. We would have gone back if we had more time!
Was craving vegan food while visiting Brooklyn and Modern Love BK came up. After reading the menu I knew I wanted to try it out! We arrived and were sat by staff. They were kind and attentive. To start we ordered a sour beer and the brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were SO good. The flavor was delicious, and they were perfectly cooked. We then ordered the hot honee chick'n which was a crispy tofu sandwich that came with their house made hot honee and fries. Wow! The sandwich are fries were so tasty! It was a generous portion. The tofu was beautifully crispy. Amazing texture and flavor. The fries were so fresh and good. Very impressed by this sandwich. For a sweet treat, we ordered their home made ice cream - a scoop of peanut butter ice cream and a scoop of strawberry topped with coconut whipped cream. The peanut butter scoop was so good and creamy. The strawberry was refreshing but a little hard to eat as the fresh strawberries were really frozen. The coconut whipped cream was so creamy and a great addition to the ice cream. Really enjoyed the food and ambiance at Modern Love!
VEGAN REVIEW Came here for brunch with my omni daughter & sister 11am Sunday- it was pretty empty. We were surprised! Had the tofu rancheros- yum! Also split waffles for the table. Everything was delicious. No espresso drinks, just drip coffee. Love the music & decor. Friendly service.
Ordered for delivery, and it was really good. The Mac with cashew cheese has a nice taste and texture to it - it's topped with buffalo cauliflower, pretty good, a little too vinegary for me. The cauliflower was cooked nicely though. Had the walnut brownie for dessert, definitely worth it. Very good chocolate flavor and it's chewy. Will be ordering again!

We grabbed takeaway Saturday evening. This was my first experience ordering from this vegan restaurant and I was somewhat satisfied. The ceasar salad was fresh greens and overdose of croutons, nothing a stand out. The nachos were much more flavorful with alot of pico pickled onions and jalapeño. I really didn't enjoy the Seiten wings the texture was very gummy and the wings needed more sauce. If I find myself in the area again I would be willing to dine in and try other items because the food was fresh and the takeaway order was prepared on time.
My boyfriend and I were spending the day in Brooklyn and planned a brunch at Modern Love. While we visit NYC periodically, we don't get to Brooklyn very often. Modern Love is the brainchild of vegan cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz, and on this visit, I saw two of her cookbooks for sale (but I have enough cookbooks I don't use to be buying more). Modern Love Brooklyn has a slightly punk ambiance, with many of the servers rocking funky-colored hair (just like me). I love talking with servers about great restaurants, especially when I'm visiting a city, because I can talk about food for hours. Our brunch strategy is to order one sweet dish and one savory dish and split them between us. We got the seitan and waffles and the Shrooms and Grits. I was a bit nervous, as I've never had a really good experience with grits before, but these were flavored just right, with a great texture, and the mushrooms were delightful. The sauce was described as spicy cherry tomato, but I didn't find it spicy at all. And I am really nervous about spicy food. The seitan and waffles on the other hand, well, it's hard to get seitan right sometimes. I think it needs to be cut thin to get any flavor out of it, and most of the seitan slabs I've had are just too thick. So I don't know that I'd get a seitan dish there, but there are plenty of tasty-looking dishes I might try should I go back.
If you're into plant-based comfort food that doesn't skimp on flavor (or portion size), Modern Love is absolutely worth a visit. The menu is stacked--sandwiches, hearty apps, macs, and cozy entrees that make you forget you're eating vegan. During my visit, they were running a Reuben sandwich special that seriously tempted me, but I went with the oyster mushroom calamari, and wow, the seasoning was spot on, and it could easily fool a seafood lover. My friend tried the seitan wings and was really impressed, even though he's usually not into mock meats. They came with super flavorful sauces and were definitely shareable. He also had the smash burger, which was a total win--savory, satisfying, and gave big diner vibes. We heard the milkshakes are amazing too, but we were too full to fit them in. Next time, for sure. Only downside? The service was on the slow side--we waited over 30 minutes between apps and mains. It's a popular spot, so some delay is understandable, but it was noticeable. Overall, I loved it and can't wait to go back with an emptier stomach and room for dessert. read more

A lot of restaurants talk about vegan, but they only have soy or pseudo meat options. What I loved about Modern Love was that they weren't trying to imitate meat and everything tasted delicious. Complex flavors, creamy texture & great for meat eaters too because you don't think it's suppose to taste like something it's not. It was quite busy, but we got seated by the entrance which was cute and feminine with varying mirror shapes. Definitely recommend. $20-$30 meals. read more

Modern Love is a cozy vegan spot in Williamsburg with a diverse menu. Note that they do not serve hard liquor here, rather their cocktails are wine-based-normally I would not be a fan but I loved their strawberry basil sangria which was not too sweet. We started with the Nachos which were probably the highlight of my meal-that queso is killer! My friend has the Cacio e Pepe which was very tasty. For my entree I ordered the Chick'n Fried Mushrooms which I honestly was not a fan of and ended up sending back-it just severely lacked flavor. I also tried the Brussels Aioli, which I have had in the past and loved but they were a bit lackluster today. The Buffalo Wings were also a bit of a let down :( so I ended up plowing through the nachos lol. Now DESSERT: the Brownie Sundae is an absolute must and redeemed my meal. The brownie itself is so chocolatey and delicious, it just needed more ice cream. The Cookie and Blueberry Cinnamon roll were also nice. Overall, I have found Modern Love to be a bit of a hit or miss-i've been in a few times and there's always a few dishes that are good and the others just lack flavor. It also seems like it depends on the day as well. read more

I've visited Modern Love Brooklyn twice and had amazing experiences both times! Once with a vegan person and another with someone extremely lactose intolerant. Although I'm not vegan the restaurant handled my own allergic dietary needs with great care. The food was absolutely delicious - full of flavor and beautifully presented. I've recommended this place to many people and will definitely return. Their attention to allergies and the kindness of the staff truly stand out. Highly recommend! read more
3.5 stars: the food was good but reminiscent of vegan food of the past, which I characterize by slightly strange textures and a distinctive "yup this is vegan" taste. That was good enough in the old days, but doesn't really fly in 2023 when vegan restaurants are now making you think, "wow this is vegan??!?!" Arancini: yummy start to the meal. Fried to perfection on the outside, ooey gooey and comforting on the inside, with a nice light pesto flavor Kale Caesar: though beautiful, the dinosaur kale pieces was too large and tough for the salad, and the flavors just weren't melding right. The dried mushrooms offered little salt bombs that seemed out of place. Overall it was okay Mushroom sliders: another dish that was ok. It could have used a sauce or something, anything, to complement the flavor of the mushrooms. Tomato rigatoni with tofu fried chicken: I really enjoyed this pasta! Creamy and tomatoey, it was exactly as described. The tofu was breaded and fried perfectly - probably the crispiest tofu I've ever eaten in my life Cacio e Pepe with friend mozzarella and chickpea fried chicken: this pasta tasted incredibly... vegan. The creamy sauce was thick and nutty, as well as slightly sweet. They tried. The chickpea chicken was very interesting, and tasted like seitan - I thought it went well to cut the overwhelming nature of the pasta sauce. Tiramisu: the cake was spongey and dense, and the cream in the middle was also heavier than I would have expected. The whipped cream on top was a delight. At the end of the night I gave this meal 3 stars, but it earned an extra 1/2 point when the leftovers tasted even better than at dinner! Don't get me wrong I'm glad Modern Love is out here offering a beautiful dining experience and enticing menu. But vegan food can and should be so much more. read more
One of the best vegan spots in NY!! Their peanut butter shake is to die for (and since it doesn't have dairy, it doesnt leave you feeling heavy or stomach ache). I also really loved the tofu Benedict - probably one of the best plant based Benedict's ive had. My bf loved the seitan Buffalo wings - pretty much the same texture and taste as regular wings. Nice staff and really vibey spot but there miiiiight have been something up with my food. I got the fish switch sandwich (actually really did taste like fish and had a great texture) and my friend and I shared the mushroom calamari which was eh fine. I also got a side of Mac and cheese which was also ok! Friend got the Almost Famous Bowl and said it was good but it was mostly mashed potato. I know some people think it's too pricey but for the amount of food I think it's fair. After dinner we both felt off. And then when I got home I literally couldn't move lol. I think it must've been the sandwich. Maybe the seasoning or the marinade was bad? Overall most of the dishes here are super heavy/oily/fried which is great if you're in the mood for that stuff. But after this experience I donnntt think I can come back. read more

Service was great, food was amazing. We opted to just continue ordering appetizer after appetizer, followed by dessert after dessert! Hope to come back one day and get an entrée. All of the food had fair portion sizes, delicious flavor notes, and they had the best ice cream I've ever had (and I've had a lot lol). Service was also kind, attentive, but not overly hovering. Ambiance was good - not too loud but also not too quiet. Plenty of seating options. Even the bathroom was cute and quite clean! read more
Oh, Modern Love! I have used Isa Chandra Moskowitz's cookbooks for years and have dreamed of coming here. When staying with a friend in Brooklyn for the weekend who happened to live steps away, I knew my time had come. They were pretty empty at 10am on a Sunday for brunch (shortly after opening, but people started trickling in as we finished up). My first note is on their aesthetic: the dining space is beautiful, and the mural on the building's exterior marks this as a destination. We started with coffee with a splash of oat milk. Their coffee is very good; their oat milk seemed homemade, maybe? I liked it a lot. But, no doubt, the real highlight was the item I ordered: grits with oyster mushrooms. It's rare to come across vegan food this visionary. I felt full in a good way after; I felt nourished. It was an impressive culinary feat. Next time, I look forward to trying the rest of the menu (and their milkshakes! Those look good!). I left happy and refreshed. read more

I'm going to start off by saying that I usually have exceptionally low expectations for vegan cheese, and I was surprisingly impressed by the nachos here. That alone is something to rave about. Now that we've established that, Modern Love is a cute vegan spot with a pretty diverse menu. As mentioned, we started with the nachos, which I was pleasantly surprised by and really liked them. I followed it up with the jerk tofu bowl - it was good, not excellent and I'd probably try something else next time. A couple cons: 1) almost everything had little like hairs or fibers - my water glass, my tea glass, and the bowl of jerk chicken. My guess is the towel they use to try their glassware is shedding. It was kind of ick but also not the end of the world because they definitely weren't human hairs. 2) The service wasn't particularly friendly. The host who sat us was VERY unfriendly, and our server wasn't particularly friendly either. Seemed a little too good for us. I was between a 3 and a 4 for this spot, and I'd probably settle at a 3.5. Definite plus points for the nachos, the jerk tofu was neutral, and negative on the service. read more

Well it was a no brainer to choose Modern Love as our splurge meal in NYC. As a vegan, I had heard of Modern Love and knew Brooklyn was the place to be for vegan food in NYC. We live in what was once thought of as vegan "Mecca," Portland OR, but this isn't like any place we had ever been to. I sat at the bar while my husband went to get his vaccination card, as he had forgotten it in the car. In that time, the sweet bartender and I bonded and they recommended the Spiked Butterfly Lemonade. When I said I didn't like sweet they told me they could add less lemonade and more seltzer and it was great. Super attentive to what I asked for and a lovely cocktail. My husband got the Raspberry Rum Punch when he came back. It was definitely not my kind of drink but he really liked it. First off, the calamari was a must have as I haven't eaten it since I became vegan, and it lived up to my expectations!!! Chewy but not like jerky, crispy and flavorful. A delight! But the shoe stopper appetizer for me was the Fried Mozzarella. Now I lived in New England for 8 years and grew up on "real" Italian food. Fried Mozzarella was always sliced mozzarella discs lightly fried in a pan with rich delicious marinara. What it was in FL and in most other places I lived or visited after New England was a tube of deep fried (in a frier,) cheese with a ramekin full of sad tomato sauce. This was authentic. This was what I grew up on. This was flavorful vegan mozzarella which did not taste vegan, but I knew it was, with the most delicious marinara sauce to dip it in. Oh it was absolutely perfect. Crispy, flavorful and melted cheese with chunky marinara. Then there was the main courses. I got the Cacio E Pepe with Feta and crispy chickpea cutlets and my husband got the Mushroom Fried Chick'n. I had Cacio E Pepe probably 35 years ago for the last time as I hadn't had it since leaving New England, and every bite delighted me. It was creamy and seasoned well. The almond feta was delicious, the cheesy pepper sauce was creamy and just peppery enough for me. The crispy chickpea cutlets were the added crunch and the pea shoots gave a nice fresh earthy taste to the dish. I was very pleased. My husband loved his Mushroom Fried Chick'n. It was SO flavorful, so crunchy and the texture was perfect. The slaw was one of the best I've ever had. I really love how it was simple. Acidic and crunchy. Not too complicated. The mashed potatoes were the best I've had since becoming vegan. A nice smooth whip and creamy! We honestly had stuffed ourselves but I had to get the Pumpkin Praline Cheesecake because my husband loves cheesecake and I love praline and pumpkin lol. Again a total win. Creamy and flavorful without being just BOOM pumpkin. And it was the perfect amount to share. Our one negative was the table service. It seemed like our server forgot about us several times as we had to ask three times for water, follow up on drinks and our food. They were busy but not this busy that guests were forgotten. The food and drinks and great bartender kept them at a 4 star for me though!! read more

If you like vegan comfort food, this is your spot. I came here to celebrate my birthday and have a nice meal. Food was 5 stars-that jerk tofu is so flavorful. The Buffalo wings have the perfect taste and texture. You will leave here very full. Service was friendly and attentive. I had a pomegranate margarita and it was watered down and lacking flavor. The whiskey sour had the same issue. I would definitely be back again but I Would try different drinks. It's still one of my favorite vegan spots. read more
Solid vegan spot. Came with a friend and sat outside. We tried: + Butterfly pea lemonade + Oyster mushroom calamari + Greek salad + Cacio e pepe + Buffalo wings + Strawberry sundae The highlights were the lemonade and calamari. Definitely recommend those! read more
Been thinking of coming here for a while, as it has a nice ambiance and is famed for vegan brunchy food! The drink menu was pretty crisp and quite affordable at ~$12 for a cocktail. I liked my Hot Honee Burger but it was way too much to be able to finish! I appreciate that. The food wasn't anything crazy and I wouldn't crave this to come back, but for a vegan spot in Brooklyn, this is pretty great! read more

The Spiked Berry lemonade was soo good, forgot that there was liquor in there. I'm not vegan but those oyster mushrooms were so good. The mushroom fried chickn with mashed potatoes is a must and the oyster mushroom calamari was absolutely worth it. I would definitely come back here. The edamame had a nice kick to it as well. It was a clean restaurant, very pretty, and the staff was great. They gave suggestions and were really nice. read more
Perfect spot for veggie lovers and all food lovers. Met up with my health conscious friend, who wanted to grab a cocktail as well graze on the creative all green menu. With the help from Yelp, we found Modern Love to be perfect location and fun area to walk around after dinner. The seasonal cocktail menu, and non alcoholic beverages with plenty of option for all. Will have to come back to try a milkshake. Fried mushroom with mash potatoes with gravy, perfect portion of cold slaw was amazing; and big enough to share. Save room for dessert, we shared an ice cream sundae - sprinkles on the side, at my guest request. read more
