Vegan fast food that's fun, tasty and one of the most affordable options around? Yes please. I actually stumbled here randomly walking around Maria Hernandez park. There is a takeout window and make sure to check out the specials on the boards. I ordered the crispy chickn sandwich and the cubano. I devoured the chickn sandwich in about 30 seconds - the crispness, slightly greedy yet spicy hint of the chipotle sauce hot the craving just right. I did like the Cubano as well but found myself wanting seconds of the chickn sandwich. Can't wait to try more of their items!

Fun little vegan streetshop next to Hernandez Park! Love to see the access to more burger-bar options for us; the line queued up more than I had expected at 7:30 pm on a weeknight, but it still only took ~10-15 minutes to get my food. I got the Chicken Caesar Wrap. I was craving one in the moment, but in hindsight this was probably the wrong decision, as there are so many other popular things on their menu that were more reputed. It wasn't "ranchy" enough and while tasty/semi-healthy, it lacked a bit more of that oomph you want when getting a post-run meal. I would love to come back and try some of their other menu! Pretty affordable as well, at around $10.

I've tried this spot on two separate occasions and honestly I have mixed reviews. I'll start by saying that I love the fact that this restaurant is conveniently a walk up and order fast food joint in Bushwick. Affordable vegan food is always a win. Both times I've been the staff was always super friendly and helpful. However, the food is so very questionable. The first time I ordered the Classic Burger and Loaded Fries. The burger was quite tasty and on par with a standard Beyond Burger. The Loaded Fries were just okay. The fries themselves were decent. However the chili, and the cheese sauce lacked flavor and were bland. They brought down the quality of the whole dish. Tbh it ended up all just tasting mushy. If they added seasoning to the chili, and cooked it for longer, it would be a lot better. Overall the meal was decent. I'd rate it a 3/5. On the second occasion I ordered the Choripan and Philly Cheesesteak. The worst meal I've eaten in a long time. The Choripan was slimy and flavorless. The sausage itself was fine, the best part of the sandwich. However, the sauce they used had a VERY unpleasant slimy texture and was very sour. When it came to the Philly cheese, the seitan was undercooked and unseasoned. There weren't any redeemable qualities, unfortunately. Honestly both dishes were so questionable I had to drink of kombucha after to settle my stomach. Unfortunately I'd have to rate it a 1/5. I want to like this place so bad, but the last meal felt like it would've given me food poisoning. If I do return I'd probably just get a burger. Again, affordable vegan food is a win. But simply put, there are better vegan fast food restaurants.

Super awesome little vegan spot by the park. Very affordable for being vegan and having great options, super friendly and awesome staff, and just overall a super cute "vegan fast food style" business. I got the bacon egg and cheese sandwich and my girlfriend got the philly cheesesteak. We both loved what we got. I cant wait to go back and try out some of the other things on the menu! 10/10 would recommend! Love it here. Also, btw there is a small enclosed seating/dining area on the side of the stand with a few tables for you to eat at if you please!

Tried this spot for the first time. About 30 min before closing. Cool spot, the service was great. super friendly guy. Tried the 10 pc tenders and a hot dog. Price point was really good. But the proportions can be a little small but makes sense for the price point. My girl got the arepa burger and that was delicious. Also got a strawberry shake.

I enjoyed every bite! There's nothing like some fresh clams to get the meal started. Of course, I couldn't come to Nathan's without getting a classic hot dog! I ordered mine nice and HOT, topped with sauerkraut, sautéed onions, and mustard. The combination was perfect--the hot dog was flavorful, the sauerkraut gave it that little tang, and those sautéed onions brought everything together. I also ordered a side of Nathan's famous French fries because, come on...you can't get the hot dog and skip the fries! Everything was washed down with a refreshing lemonade, which was the perfect drink to complete the meal. And before anybody starts judging my order...NO, I didn't eat all of this by myself! I had company, LOL! Nathan's is one of those classic spots where you already know what you came for, and it always hits the spot. The clams were fresh, the hot dog was on point, the fries hit the spot, and the lemonade completed the meal. Always a HIT at Nathan's! I left full, satisfied, and happy. I'll definitely be back because when that Nathan's craving hits, you just have to answer it!

They don't say up front what's different. My friend asked and wasn't deterred upon learning that it's turkey. At least it wasn't a Tofu Pup. In short, not all hot dogs are the same so I don't think you'll regret overcoming the $6.49 sticker shock at Nathan's. Who knows if it's a secret metallic component in the pan or the salt air but the dogs are different here. Get the grilled onions. The hot and spicy dog wasn't much different than the normal one. As with Ripper's in Rockaway, I give an extra star for public service. At Nathan's that means bathrooms that are cleaned often, helping address a severe imbalance in the neighborhood's crowd-to-bathroom ratio.

New York City has a remarkable ability to turn ordinary things into cultural institutions. Given…read moreenough decades, a basic diner becomes a historic landmark, and a simple hot dog counter becomes a neighborhood shrine. Gray's Papaya on the corner of 72nd Street and Broadway is the quintessential example. Founded in 1973 by Nicholas Gray after he split from Papaya King, Gray's built its reputation on snappy franks, tropical fruit drinks, and microscopic prices. High rents and Manhattan real estate realities eventually shuttered the other outposts, leaving this Upper West Side location as the last one standing. We ordered the famous Recession Special: two hot dogs and a papaya drink. One dog came loaded with mustard and sauerkraut, the other with grilled onions. Both were aggressively, heroically average. They were not bad, which would at least make for a compelling story. They were simply the sort of hot dogs that seemed to spend their lives avoiding taking a firm stance. If hot dogs were graded on a bell curve, these two would sit directly in the middle, quietly hoping nobody called on them. The mustard was mustard, the onions were onions, and the sauerkraut did its job. The papaya drink was cold and pleasantly sweet, offering a refreshing counter to the salty franks. The service was purely transactional. Nobody threw a hot dog at us, but warmth and hospitality are clearly not core company values. You step up, state your order, exchange cash, and move along. Still, three stars feels fair because nobody visits Gray's Papaya in search of culinary perfection. You go because you are hungry on the Upper West Side, you do not want to spend twenty dollars on lunch, and you want a quick taste of a Manhattan that existed before every storefront turned into a luxury bank branch. The hot dogs are strictly middle of the road. The history and price tag are considerably better.

I went for one filled with gooey mozzarella--so satisfying--and loved how it still kept the nostalgic corn dog look. There are over a dozen creative configurations, including versions with potato cubes or rice cakes, each with its own quirky appeal. Once you choose your dog, there are 2 more steps: pick a dry topping (I chose cinnamon sugar, which added a sweet-savory contrast) & finish it off with sauces from a lineup that includes ketchup, mustard, gochu hot sauce, and sweet chili. My only wish is that there was actual seating (it's more of a grab-and-go spot) & the wall being wide open made it feel a bit drafty. Still, the food is worth it. Definitely a fun East Village stop if you're craving something indulgent & out of the ordinary.
