Serving Venezuelan street food, this place doesn't have the most amazing food I've ever had in my life, but still gets five stars for creativity and uniqueness. I had the Perro Con Todo hotdog, voted the best NYC hotdog by the Village Voice, which boasts onions, cabbage, chips, shredded cheese, ketchup, mustard, and salsa. I love a good dog, but wish they had served mine hotter and with the cheese melted. It arrived a little cold and flat. They have several types of dogs with various cheesy toppings, veggie choices, and meats. They also have a vegan dog. I also had the Criminal Burger, served with chicken, steak, or chorizo. Also comes with egg, ham, cheese, onion, and chips. Fries must be purchased separately. As with the hotdogs, there are several renditions from which to choose, all with unique meat and veggie toppings--and yes, there is a vegan burger. They also have meat platters and sandwiches to clog any artery you have! My favorite part were the cocktails. Mezcal drinks, margaritas, beers, shots. Super reasonably priced (especially for New York!) and I found them fruity and refreshing. This is a quirky, edgy establishment with tons of fun art and stickers all over the wall. The only thing I didn't like about the tostones was the green sauce because I'm not a cilantro fan but otherwise it was very good. Between the guys, they ordered a burger, a side of fries and the tequeños. As for the drinks, I really don't remember what everyone had. All I know is I got a frozen passion fruit marg and my bestie got something with hibiscus and rum in it. Both were really good. The French fries tasted like Mickey D's without the chemicals and the guilt, so they're definitely a must order if we're ever in the area again. I'm not gonna lie, the tostones smelled DIVINE but the steak was seriously lacking salt. I also felt like they could've added just a tad more BUT their prices aren't bad so it's not a dealbreaker. My main critique would be they should find a different way to plate it. It gets very messy and everything was crammed into a small basket. There is a total of 3 booths outside, all made with reused material. It has a bit of a charm with the unconventional reused snowboards used as a serving plate. The overall ambience was laid-back skater/ snowboarder vibes. We came to try out Santos salsa on a Tuesday there weren't many people at the restaurant. We ordered our food and it came out quickly, however the food came out with no utensils, or napkins. There weren't many guests at the restaurant that day, but the waiter seemed to be very overwhelmed. We helped ourselves to the napkins (-1). The food came out in a speedy manner. The food was not bad, but it wasn't anything that would make me say, "let's come back". The hotdogs were regular boiled hotdogs with toppings, the bun wasn't even toasted. As a big fan of yuca fries I have to say Santa Salsa's version is out of this world: crispy, chewy, and piping hot. The hot dogs are also solid, you can get them plon or loaded (with salsa and fried cheese). There are a few vergan iterations including the fried plantain dog, very creative. What is this secret eatery hidden in the back of Over The Eight!? Do my eyes deceive me? Have I had too much cheap beer and tequila to see this little spot!? I was quiet lucky to be popping in for a sidewalk sale and then I noticed Santa Salsa and had to grab a nibble. What the hell is Guasacaca!? It's fricking delicious and addictive and I want a tub of it. The clerk described it as a cilantro sauce. I have googled this recipe and there is also AVOCADO! He served me a thimble and my tongue licked it up like a scifi Alien! I was thrilled to see veggie options and truly outside the box concoctions. I ended up with the Bambu, an asparagus and scallion hot dog with crumpled potato chip crumbs, mustard, onions, ketchup, cabbage and my new fave condiment, Guasacaca!
