This was a find! Honey had the snapper and I had the steak frite. Both were excellent. Service is friendly. Kitchen was a bit slow with lots of "ceremony". Overall a great meal on our visit to Savannah! read more

Just perfect in every way! Very cool decor. Outstanding service, over-the-top food. Coquilles St. Jacques started out our big Wow! Escargot is not something I personally like, but my sisters loved it. The Steak Tartar --fantastic. I loved my dish, the Carolina Brook Trout. Delicious with its glazed carrots, leftover the next day. Definitely finish with Vanilla & Lavender Creme Bruleé and a Sidecar. We are still talking about this place weeks later. I Cannot wait to be back in Savannah read more

Worst birthday dinner ever. I was l looking forward to this but unfortunately things went haywire in all the worst ways. We were the first people in the restaurant. Walked in at 6:00 pm and got the first table. Most people came in about 5-10 minutes after us. First course were the scallops. They were delicious. I thought we were in for a fantastic meal, even though we didn't get the scallops until 30 minutes after we ordered them. Next course was the salads. That took another half an hour. For a Caesar salad, a beet and goat cheese salad and a bowl of soup. I do not honestly believe it takes 30 minutes to put salads on plates and soup in a bowl, but again, we were willing to overlook things as the food was delicious. A little after 7:30 we noticed SIX tables had left. Some of them came a half hour after us, when we were first eating our scallops. It was at this point that we finally decided to say something. Mind you I've had full view of the plating station and watched as meals went to practically the entire restaurant AND the bar next door. When we asked the waitress what was going on there was no apology. Immediately the response was - it's taking a long time for everyone. We said - uh no, everyone else has not only eaten but they've since left. She at least apologized at that point and said she'd check our meals. It took another 10 minutes but we finally got our food. The trout and chicken, which weren't that good but at least were hot, and ice cold mushrooms. It took another couple of minutes to get the bouillabaisse. It was at this point that we asked to speak with the manager, which the waitress politely obliged by saying she'd let him know. I then watched as the manager diligently plated additional meals, then took time to serve meals in the bar, and even stacked plates. In an hour and a half I hadn't witnessed this gentleman do any of that so it was pretty obvious to me he was doing anything and everything to avoid coming to our table. We ate our meals pretty angrily, but were quiet as we awaited the manager. After another 30 minutes went by it was clear the manager had zero intention of coming to our table. We finally asked for the bill, and asked to speak to the manager one more time. Finally he came to the table. First words out of his mouth were - you were properly served as per the timing for a three course menu. I've eaten everywhere from Daniel Boulud's eponymous restaurant in New York to Outback Steakhouse to locally-owned gems in Jacksonville to eateries in Paris to ... you get the idea. As if I don't know how long it takes for a three-course menu to come to the table. But even assuming for purposes of argument he's right, we said - but we just watched a half dozen tables get served before us and leave. His quip? They didn't have three courses. Ok now I'm just mad. It's clear there is going to be ZERO accountability here. Look, you messed up. Clearly. Even the mushrooms were cold so something had to have happened. We're all human here. Just apologize, tell us you messed up, and move on. Nope. Wasn't going to happen here. So we give him the bill and say just run the card so we can leave. He comes back and says - your entire meal is free. Now I'm insulted. Normally it's incredibly kind to comp an ENTIRE meal. An expensive one too. But he did it in such a way so that it looked like we were angling to get out of our bill. As if we concocted a story to eat free like some cheapskates. Again, ZERO accountability. We made sure to tip our waitress $80 as she worked hard and didn't want her to suffer for this egregious insult. Particularly during the holidays. I thought long and hard about writing this review, which I now realize is a tome. On the one hand, the argument could be made the restaurant tried to make things right by comping our meal. On the other, we didn't want a free meal or to be made to feel like this was some con or to feel like cheap jerks. All we wanted was an enjoyable experience in our last night in Savannah and to celebrate my birthday. And this establishment fell short. Clearly this is a popular place and this review probably won't mean anything in the white noise that comes with bad reviews. And it has all the makings of a great place - the manager started the evening by giving the wait staff a glass of champagne, I'm sure to get them excited about a good night of service; there seemed to be repeat customers; and there was a line of people without reservations whom the hostess tried to get seated in the bar. No pretense. Just a solid local eatery. But here I am hours after my meal still feeling like crap about how I was treated for a family dinner for my birthday. I guess I just needed to put this out there into the ether. So be careful if you eat here. Maybe your experience will be better than mine. There were at least six happy tables who left before us who seemed pleased. But if your experience isn't then you've been warned. Good luck. read more

We had the mussels, the Salade de Betteraves Rôties, and the sea scallops with pork belly & mushrooms! Everything was great, the white wine sauce with the fennel in the mussels was very interesting and a flavor I've not tasted before with mussels. Also the bread and butter in the beginning of the meal was delicious, the butter was unsalted with a sweet flavor! Ambiance is really cool too, loved the decorations read more

First and foremost, this is the best experience we have had in a restaurant. I'm not even kidding!! I made our reservations about a month out and saw on the Yelp app a photo of a little nook area that sat only two people. I had to have this spot for us to sit and eat. I added this request in the comments section on the Open Table site as I made the reservation. So, when we checked in, the hostess at the front said our reservations were made for 6:00 and here I was thinking it was for 6:30. Either way, she never gave our area up to anyone else because she literally waited an extra 30 min for us to show up!!! NO OTHER PLACE would have done this. I was very surprised. And on top of that, the lady was super friendly and accommodating. Already a HUGE plus for a first impression. When she sat us in the little area we had requested, this nook was very private and right up against the bar. We were greeted by Hannah, the BEST bartender we have ever had. I'm not even exaggerating. We were undecided on which bottle of wine we wanted to order. She went out of her way to let us try a few samples of some of the wines before we ordered an entire bottle. There's nothing worse than paying $50+ a bottle and you don't like it. She actually held a conversation with us throughout the entire evening and talked with everyone there as well. She paid attention to detail and made super good drinks. This is something very rare to find in the bartending world as a patron. Now it's time to talk about the food. We both decided that since this was a French inspired restaurant, we would have to try their Escargot. We normally really like snails, and these were good, but we both thought it could have used a little more garlic in the butter. Otherwise, they were really good. I had their soup of the day, which was a nice creamy Butternut Squash with two crispy pieces of sourdough. For our entrees, both of us had the Magret de Canard aux Cerises. This was a roasted duck breast served with mashed potatoes and finished with a Bing cherry sauce. Ok, this was delicious! I would definitely order this dish again. However, it needed a vegetable, like asparagus or broccolini. Maybe they'll read this review and think about adding it to the dish :) Overall, we had the best experience here and will be making this one of our regular places to dine when visiting Savannah. Everyone was so friendly!! Including the fellow patrons. This place will be highly recommended to all of our friends and family. We WILL be back and will be sitting in our favorite little nook enjoying a bottle wine, great food and great conversation with the other patrons and employees. read more

First time trying this place. The staff was very friendly. The food was delicious but the chicken livers were a little over cooked. The sauce made up for that. It is a little pricey so definitely a date night place. Now it is a little crowded in the restaurant with all the decor. The seats are not made for bigger people so that was uncomfortable. Over all it was good experience. read more

Had an awesome time celebrating my wife's b-day. Atmosphere was awesome, we were sat in a table for two downstairs and there was only one other table with us. I had the duck, which was delicious on its blueberry sauce. My wife enjoyed the trout as well. Dessert was also on point. The best thing about the restaurant, however, was our server Emily. She was knowledgeable about the food, had an awesome disposition and seem to genuinely enjoy talking to us and looking after our table. I give this restaurant a 10/10. read more

This place looked amazing and my girlfriend and I were excited to dine here this past weekend for my birthday. We had reservations for 8pm and upon arrival we were met by a very rude host who informed my partner that we were late and our reservations were for 7:30. When she tried to give a rebuttal she was spoken down to and told that our table was simply no longer available. When we asked if our names could be taken down or if we could have a table later that night the answer was "go online" My partner had gone online and had made the reservations in the first place. I have never been treated so poorly at an establishment. read more

We had our dinner all picked out. Our top 3 dishes were pate du foigras for starters, Bouillabaisse for main and profiteroles for dessert. All three weren't available . But the dinner we ate was spot on in flavor and temperature. The wine selection is solid and the ambiance and service is very good if not excellent. Our waiter, Marty was fantastic. This place has lovely French decor and fairly good French cuisine. We live in Savannah and have dined here several times. It is popular with locals and tourists. During our recent dinner, we were not greeted with a smile by the staff. The wait people seemed glum and over worked. Not good. We have many restaurants to choose from and may not return to this one. read more

Mediocre at best. Not bad but not great "French" food. The service was pretty good, hence the 3 stars. The potato leek soup was clumpy and served lukewarm so that went back. The scallop appetizer wasn't presented well but it tasted good. The duck confit and sausage special was okay but the duck was tough. The trout was delicate but had too many capers. They serve warm bread and herb butter. For the price we paid, there are many better options for a good dinner read more

Pro: service was nice, great ambiance Con: I don't think the chef has have ever been to France before, leaving me to think these reviews are a bit skewed. The foie gras was inedible while served on a bizarre thick toasted bread and one piece of lettuce. I seriously couldn't swallow it. If you enjoy just straight up eating snails you'll love the escargot. Forget seasoning, butter, garlic. Just snails. Soup was fine I guess. If you like soup. You'll like this since it's soup. read more

If you're visiting Savannah, you're coming here. And guess what you're getting? A full five star experience! Stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night and fell in love with one of my new favorite spots in Savannah! After visiting France for the first time last summer, I've been on a French food kick. The good news is Circa 1875 answers the call! First off, the hostess, waitress, and the rest of the staff were absolutely wonderful. They took care of us and ensured we had an excellent experience. We started with their delicious pate and cheese board -- which was expanded to include smoked meats at the suggestion of our waitress. It took my right back to vacationing in France and picnicking on the grounds of Versailles! For my entree, I ordered the chicken. I know this isn't a common dish to write home about, but this was the best chicken breast I've ever had. The mashed potatoes were delicious and perfectly cooked as well. I wish I had room for desert! Underwhelming, Average // the only way I know how to start off this review. We started with Escargot which tasted as if it was just dug from the dirt... We also got Scallops Au Gratin; the scallops were tasty & well cooked. The special was surf & turf. Right off, our steak was over cooked, the lobster was not served with drawn butter (a preference) and the sides were less than desirable. After asking for drawn butter, I overheard the manager at the kitchen window tell the kitchen staff to NOT use nice butter and just use kitchen/margin. After l got the butter, it was terrible so I left it sitting. [I'll say -- i think there are some very skewed reviews on this restaurant -- you know good food when ya have it and this was not it.] Overall service was great -- our server was very kind. read more

We came here for a bachelorette dinner and honestly everything was very subpar. Things to note: Main dishes were 2/5 on a rating scale if I'm being fair everything is overpriced compared to the quality received. The Cesar salads were warm, extremely salty and covered in too much dressing. We had an unknown bug in one of our waters and when we asked for a new one it instead sat on the table for 15 minutes. When this situation was brought to the manager instead of being kind she rudely approached our table and said "I'm not giving you a discount for a bug in your water you just get a new water." I have never experienced such terrible service from a manager. Thankfully this review can save you from an expensive poor quality meal/experience. Choose wisely. read more

We've checked the Circa 1875 out during the day sightseeing Savannah and decided to make a reservation for Dinner that night - they are on OpenTable. Got there in time and were right away seated. They had a table for 4 reserved for us so we could decide to sit beside or opposite each other. Nice gesture because the place was really busy. Service is vert friendly and the interior nice and charming - for our taste a little too stuffed with odds and ends. The food is really great the portions rather big - my wive could not finish hers. We started with the scallops backed with Gruyere Cheese, my wife had the trout - two nice filets and I had a sea bass - the server filleted it nicely on the table. Prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. So definitely Savannah has much more good restaurants to offer besides the Pink House. For sure we would come again. read more

Absolutely the worst meal I have ever had in Savannah. We waited 2 hours for our entrees which was steak and mashed potatoes. The steak was over cooked and was like shoe leather. The mashed potatoes were instant, bland and lumpy. I had to ask 3 times for a refill of soda which was 30 minutes between each request. Do not go to this restaurant unless you enjoy poor service and terrible food. Our issues were not resolved. It was a bachelorette party of 10. They took the steaks off the bill but we left starving after being there 3 hours total. We visit Savannah a lot and will never visit this restaurant again. read more

Circa 1875 is an award winning restaurant several years in a row, but of course our experience did not meet the expectation I had or in the very least had hoped for. When in Savannah, my mom and I always go to The Olde Pink House/ Planters Inn Tavern, but since the fire that happened in December, we needed a new restaurant to enjoy and experience. After reading Yelp reviews (shout out to all my fellow Yelpers), we chose Circa 1875. When we walked in for our 6 pm reservation, we were the first table to sit and after our server's greeting, we immediately ordered escargot and scallops as an appetizer. When the server brought us the best bread, hot and soft with herbed butter on the side, we then ordered our entrees. We sat promptly at 6 and at 6:33, we still had not received our appetizers. The manager came over to visit us and apologized for the long wait and told us there was an issue with the printers but the apps would be out right away. When the escargot and scallops arrived, they were piping hot and beyond delicious. The garlic butter in the escargot was top notch and the escargot was so tender and perfectly cooked. The scallops were in a creamy sauce with some gruyere cheese and bread crumbs, and the scallops were tender. Now, fast forward to 7:18 and still no entrees. I respect not being rushed, especially in a lovely restaurant that doesn't need to "turn and burn" but for fish, it was way too long of a wait. The manager came back and apologized for the wait and offered us a complimentary dessert. At 7:24, the entrees arrived, Carolina Brook Trout with capers in a brown butter sauce with carrots. I usually am not someone who would order the same entree as my dinner companion, but fish is fish and my mom and I both wanted it. OMG this was literally on a whole other level salty. With the capers, the salt level for seasoning should have been extremely limited. The amount of salt was so intense that my mother immediately got beet red in the face, and my ankles began to swell. Nothing requires that much salt. I gave him my credit card and wanted to leave because my mom and I were hot and uncomfortable. After signing the credit card receipt, the manager came over and said, "Oh no, we can do much better!" She took my credit card again and re ran it with much more of a discount than just a complimentary dessert to go. I am disappointed that there was such a wait for both the appetizers and entrees. I am disappointed that the fish we were looking forward to all day did not meet our expectations. However, the ambiance and service is superb, and the escargot a whole other level of deliciousness. read more

I love this place. One of the best restaurants in Savannah. The French Onion soup is to die for! The place is a French Restaurant...on the dining side you feel like you are in Paris. But I love the bar side. Lots of locals and the bartenders take total care of the customers and make you feel like you have been friends forever! I really do recommend this place when anyone asks me where to go in Savannah...I tell them if you want romance go to the Restaurant side - if you want some fun and meet really cool and interesting characters of the south head to the bar. The food menu is served in both! They have a great selection of wines - it's even fun during the week, when it's not as busy! Take my word for it - order their Cheese plate and a bottle of fine French Red wine and welcome yourself to Savannah! A must when visiting our city! read more

My husband and I were visiting Savannah for the first time and needed a change from all the Southern meals we've been having. We were very happy to find Circa 1875 because we love French food. The appetizer menu had so many of our favorites, we couldn't decide so we ordered 3 appetizers. Escargot, scallops and foie gras. The escargot was tender served in garlicky butter just the way we love it. The scallops were large and cooked perfectly in a mornay sauce. The foie gras was smaller than most appetizer size but was nicely seared. All 3 were delicious. We normally each get a different entree so we can taste each other's. However, this time we both wanted the special fish of the day, Grouper seared and served with foie gras butter sauce. We were glad we each ordered our own because it was delicious, even though my portion had 4 fish bones, one was pretty long, and a fish scale. The reason for not rating 5 stars. Luckily, the fish was cooked properly and I had no choking issues. We shared my favorite dessert, creme brûlée and it was one of the best we've had. I would recommend this restaurant. read more

Absolutely loved my food. The wait staff was very pleasant and friendly. They made me feel very special for my birthday celebration.

Visit Date: March 8, 2016 After learning this was a french gastropub I had to make a reservation to eat here with my husband during our stay in Savannah. I am giving it 4 stars because of the atmosphere and because most of what we ate was very good but I was slightly disappointed in the lack of vegetarian options. I had to scour through the menu just to find a few things I could eat. Our cheese plate that we sampled for the appetizer was just okay. We didn't like two of the three cheeses featured on the plate/cheese board because they were more of a blue cheese type and we don't like blue cheese. The fruit, jelly and one cheese that was not like blue cheese were good. I had the tomato bisque and a salad. Both were pretty good, the tomato bisque had great flavor. They also served bread with their own herb butter. The herb butter was interesting and tasty. My recommendation if you are visiting Savannah and looking for one fine meal go with the Olde Pink House over Circa 1875. read more
