Some of the friendliest staff in town combined with a great wine list and consistently solid food have put Late Air in our date night rotation for good. They also have a few beer options if you are like me and would prefer that over wine. We typically get the Caesar Salad as I think its the best thing on the menu but last night we mixed it up and got some of their new offerings - the shrimp, squash and mushroom rice. Not sure how they worked their magic but the shrimp seemed almost calamari-ish and was pretty unique. They also have a happy hour before 6pm and some of the items are discounted including oysters at 2.50 each which is hard to beat. It is not a large place so reservations are recommended. We typically like to sit at the bar but when we went last night, the bar was already packed. About 10 minutes after being sat, some spots opened and the host came back to ask if we wanted to move to the bar. We declined but it was a very nice gesture and just goes to show how nice they are to their guests. Cannot recommend this place enough! read more

I can't believe this exists in Savannah. Honestly, I hope this city values this restaurant because it's one of the most authentic places I visited this trip. It doesn't feel like a complete tourist trap. It's a staff of honest, kind people who care about food and wine. The ambiance was so comfortable, clean, and mindful. It was dimly lit which made me feel like I was in a friend's dining room, lending to a more familiar and intimate experience. John guided me flawlessly through the menu and every single item recommended to me was moving. I will never come to Savannah without making a reservation here. The head chef is also from Richmond which was an added layer of familiarity and comfort to me. I wish I could pick Late Air up and take it home with me! read more

So the last time we ate at Late Air, we overheard some guy complain to the server that the steak tartare wasn't traditional enough. We were intrigued, be ause a) we had recently had a very traditional version at a nice French restaurant and b) we had ordered the steak tartare here too. The steak tartare comes out and it's DELICIOUS. It ends up being sort of Japanese -inspired, really unexpected and completely excellent. My husband and I were delighted. Finally the server comes back and asks, with some trepidation, how we like it, and we tell them it's fabulous, to their obvious relief. We ate there again last night (we don't live in Savannah, if we did we'd eat there far more often), and again we had a superb meal that was unexpected in all the best ways. We had: - Olives in a house made red chimichurti - a half dozen oysters with their homemade peach hot sauce - the Caesar salad, with a sesame and jiri anchovy dressing - Fairy eggplant with a tahini sauce and a spicy saute sauce of some sort - Georgia shrimp with a spicy yet creamy red sauce - Lemongrass-muscadine grape ice cream - Cantalope sorbet (both house made) Everything was so inspired. That Caesar salad could have been like any old Caesar, but instead it managed to be savory without being super anchovy forward. Also they literally covered it in finely shaved Parmesan and clearly made the croutons themselves. I wish I could remember exactly what they called the sauce on the shrimp, but basically it was reminiscent of creamy chile crisp - mmm mmm delicious. The ice cream/sorbet had clear flavors. The chef just knocked it all out of the park. Combine everything I've said with the lovely, friendly service, and an excellent wine list, and the experience just can't be beat. My larger point is that if you're looking for a super traditional meal, this is not going to be it - but if you want some of the best and most interesting food in Savannah, eat at Late Air. read more

I love coming here to catch up with the girls. The wine selection is amazing. the second time I went, a vendor was in giving samples to the staff for new options- which was really good to see because it showed me how serious this place is about their wine selection. I love the happy hour, and I love how knowledgeable the staff is about each wine option. The tapas options are yummy, locally sourced, and have beautiful flavor profiles. Parking is on the street with a very small lot that fits about 2/3 cars. I would be mindful of parking as there is a tight corner where cars come off of Victory. I worry about my car getting clipped so I park a ways away from the turn. Very lovely place, prices are comparable to other wine bar-like establishments. We stopped by Late Air on a Friday evening for a quick glass of wine and we ended up staying a while, to enjoy a full bottle and plenty of delicious goodies instead! The space is very chic, warm and inviting and the natural wine selection is so incredibly unique that one glass was simply not enough for us. We also had the pleasure of meeting one of the owner's Colin, who came by our table to compliment our wine selection and give us a little more color on their space and how they come to select the wines offered, which was just a lovely surprise. The food was also exceptional and exactly what you would expect to compliment a great bottle of wine. We cannot wait to visit again and see what other delights may surprise us next time. read more

Oysters were delicious, just right for me not too briny. Bass crudo was amazing absolutely Delicious a must try and definitely will come back just for the crudo. The Padrón Pepper mojo cilantro was delicious have to order along with the house made bread to soak up the dressing. YUMMY!! Wine menu is extensive and diverse and was Ryan was very knowledgable on all the wine's served. I really wanted to like this place. Great guys who are the owners, nice atmosphere, good w8ne bar concept. I order a glass of white wine and the Jamon ham and chips snack ($10) on happy hour. The gave me a plate of homemade chips. There was a small sliver of ham on top and 2 more small slivers hidden in the chips. I never would have ordered a plate of chips. I ordered a Jamon ham snack! I let one of the owners know of the poor description of what I ordered, he just smiled, said thanks, and gave me my check. I paid, gave a 20+% tip and left. $30 for an inexpensive glass of wine and a plate of chips. Not happy. I so wanted to like this place. Words matter on your menu. Smiles don't make for good experience when there is negative feedback. Sorry i didn't take a pic, but who takes a pic of something that is very disappointing. Luckily the menu is limited...so not an arduous process. Plates are small...so with 4 people...got expensive very fast. Understand they are intended to be tapas...but at about $20 a plate....takes quite a few plates to make 4 proper meals. Couple of the dishes were over-sauced...and when sharing...becomes awkward when trying to be sure you get the "right bite". Place has potential for sure. The atmosphere at Late Air is exceptional. No matter the season, a chill in the air, or sweltering humidity, the ambiance is Hot and Chill! The wine is like no other in the region sourced from near and far. I am told that in most cases the wineries are visited by the owners and operators Madeline and Collin. This greatly adds to the mystic because if you are lucky enough to be there when they are (which is highly likely), they may tell you a heartfelt story of how that particular wine made its way to Savannah and your palette. Waitress was friendly, prompt and helpful. Decent wine list. Nice industrial chic ambience is warm and comfortable but a little too dark. Had to use a flashlight to read the menu and see the food. Dropped by for a casual dinner with the husband on a Friday. Wonderful place with a relaxed but very pleasant vibe. Great spot to have a glass of wine and a light dinner with small plates. They had a very nice wine selection... but the star really was their food. Seems like their menu is seasonal and changes based on what is local and fresh.
