This is a really delightful spot! Nice views of the city and river from the roof and pleasant indoors seating too. While I'd advise you to slip staying in the hotel where this restaurant sits, the restaurant itself (and the other one downstairs, fleeting) were bright spots in an otherwise lackluster hotel stay. We enjoyed breakfast here a few days. The service is fantastic (we saw Miranda a couple times and she made us feel like regulars, remembering our order and offering some sight seeing tips), all staff was friendly, fun and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is well done, with a Mediterranean influnce. We enjoyed the shakshuka (highly reco you add the kefta and ask for oven bread instead of the sourdough) and the Turkish eggs (also reco asking for the oven bread with this one), both dishes were flavorful and well executed (and we try shakshuka everywhere we see it!) We also had evening snacks one night and enjoyed the hummus with the mushroom add on and some of their signature drinks. Staff In the evening was also strong and didn't disappoint. If we ever find ourselves back in Sav we won't stay at the hotel Thompson but we will stop into Bar Julian! read more

A great spot for a lazy Sunday afternoon. While in town for a few days and an open afternoon we wanted a comfortable spot to sit back, have a glass of wine and just enjoy the opportunity "to just be." Bar Julian fit that need perfectly. On the river front, 13 stories up, views galore and options both inside and out. We chose a high top near one of the open patio doors and ordered a bottle of wine. A chilled Sauv. Blanc that was delicious arrived. We just needed some p & q so we each broke out our earbuds and drifted into one audio books. Just lovely. It wasn't long before we noticed a few nearby tables getting food delivered and it looked delicious. We inquired and ordered the Whipped Feta with Crudités. Our wonderful server highly recommended the Oven Bread as an easy add-on. We are so glad we ordered the Oven Bread as it was mind blowing. Simple, hot, salty and tender - puffed, pizza like dough that we could have ordered 3 more and one for the ride home. I asked the server how often she takes one home and she said her addiction has adjusted down to just 1 a week! The cheese and bread were lovely together and the watermelon radish and cucumber slices were great too. We relaxed, snacked and chilled. Just went for after dinner drinks and found what is probably the highest rooftop bar in Savannah, a very cool spot to hang. There is inside as well as outside seating that are a combination of high tops, couches & regular tables. This night is was slightly cool and they had the garage style door open so all can enjoy the fresh clean air! The bar itself is quite large with seating for many folks. Last night I dined at Lavender Rooftop Bar and said it was one of the best rooftop views in Savannah. And that's still true. But I think Bar Julian is better. Located in the swanky Thompson Savannah hotel, it is higher up and has a broader sweeping view (IMO). Service wasn't quite as warm or welcoming as Lavender, but was cordial and attentive. I had the smash burger, which was juicy and well seasoned and I love the caramelized onions and crisp pickles and oozy cheese. Fries were hot and crisp. They also offer a chicken sandwich, a lamb sandwich, pizzas (pepperoni, Margherita, sausage, mushroom, and more). They call themselves mediterranean inspired and do serve feta, stuffed dates, hummus, and mezze, but it's a stretch to call them mediterranean. The drinks were all great. I had: Summer heat: reposado, aquavit, grapefruit, lime, serrano pepper, and cilantro. It was good, but I have to say, I am so tired of jalapeño in everything. We need a new trend. Family vacation: this was my favorite. strawberry infused rum, kiwi oleo, lime, tiki bitters, cava. So light and delish. Would make a killer to go drink if you want to go walk along the river. Winner winner: gin, green chartreuse, orange oleo, lime, peychauds. Another refreshing, fruity (but not too sweet) take. I liked family vacation better, but still great. And Damage Control: mezcal, stool, pineapple tepache, house fermented pineapple cordial, acidified watermelon. Definitely a tiki-like crowd pleaser. Overall great experience. Both drinks were good, but super expensive.. we ordered the bread and whipped feta dip. It took a really long time to get out appetizer (like 20 minutes). Upon arrival it was clearly fresh out of the oven and delicious! So amazing! The feta dip was so addictive! My critique is that it did not have enough vegetables. I needed more. I also found it odd that bread was not included in the dips. It had to be ordered separately. This made the dip and bread $17. We live in the area and have talked about coming to Bar Julian since moving to Savannah--and let me just say, it did not disappoint! The tables were full, so my husband and I decided to sit at the bar, and that turned out to be a great choice. The seating was surprisingly comfortable, and the young man behind the bar (dark brown hair--I wish I remembered his name!) was incredibly sweet and offered lots of great recommendations. We ended up trying the sausage pizza, and even though my husband usually isn't a fan of sausage (he wasn't that hungry and planned to just nibble on mine), he was so surprised by how good it was. I also went with a drink he recommended, and it was amazing. Then we had the pleasure of meeting the fabulous manager. She was so cool--like seriously, she had this smooth Lenny Kravitz energy, total badass rockstar vibes. She was effortlessly chic and so down to earth. It was easy to see why she was chosen to manage such a great spot. All of the young women working were equally sweet, and we ended the night out on the balcony. Even with the summer heat, there was the most perfect, cool breeze as we looked out over the water. Bar Julian is officially going on our list of favorite places to eat and chill. This bar is located on the rooftop of the Thompson Hotel. We were staying at the hotel and had a $100 credit so we decided to use it here for drinks and dinner. For drinks, I ordered family vacation (strong, rum forward) and the great romances. I preferred the great romances. Both were good though. My husband got the Albariño and French burgundy Chardonnay. Both good. For dinner we got the gambas, delicious and the mezze platter. The bread and whipped feta on the board were my favorites. My Husband enjoyed the hummus. The gambas really stole the show through. There was some heat but it only built a little. It never got super hot. So if you like a little bit of spice but don't want it to kick your ass get it. Oh how I love Savannah and this is a great spot to see the city day or night but the service and food were dismal. First I sat at bar. The bar tender made a B-Line to me and said" You know you can't get alcohol here at this time." I said, "Yep, I know but this is where the hostess said I had to sit. Then the bartender was kinder but not attentive. I was getting breakfast and he was setting up so I'm sure I wasn't his first priority. I didn't want to sit a the bar but the hostess said all the other tables were reserved. (You can probably see from my pics there were a lot of tables without anyone seated my entire stay.) I ordered coffee. It was cold. My second cup was warm. I ordered the basic,.... eggs, sausage, potatoes. I asked for crispy potatoes. Instead, I got eggs and only potatoes. I couldn't get his attention to let him know I didn't order extra potatoes. But whatever. I ate the eggs.. didn't eat but one potato becasue they were these fat, undercooked things. It's not a cheap breakfast so to have lousy food and service was disheartening. My friends and I stayed here for 4 day long, birthday weekend. We booked a reservation for 24 people at Bar Julian in the Thompson Hotel for my bachelorette party two months in advance, confirmed a month in advance, and confirmed it again the week of. When we arrived, we were told the rooftop was closed for a private event that was not ours. We received no prior notice and no attempt was made to contact us ahead of time. For a group of this size, this isn't a minor inconvenience. You cannot simply find another restaurant that can accommodate 24 people on short notice, especially when the evening has been carefully planned around a reservation and other scheduled events. The handling of the situation made things worse. Maya, the point of contact I had been working with would not come speak with me. She told another member of our group that the only other large table was reserved for someone else. We were then offered a single bottle of prosecco if we returned later, which felt dismissive given that our group would have easily spent thousands of dollars--and would have been charged a significant fee had we not shown up. This was also disruptive to the event that was going on in the space, with attendees offering us their own food and drinks after seeing how poor the customer service was from management. The servers and bartenders all seemed wonderful, so it's unfortunate to see the leadership at this restaurant seem to be the opposite. After the fact, we were offered a gift card to Bar Julien, despite the fact that we were visiting from out of town. This does not meaningfully address the issue, as it requires us to return to the same place that failed to honor a confirmed reservation. Given the reputation and standards associated with the Thompson brand under Hyatt Hotels, I expected a significantly higher level of service and accountability. Thankfully, the AC Hotel was able to accommodate us last minute, and even mentioned that this is not an uncommon occurrence with Bar Julien. That contrast in service did not go unnoticed, and it's clear which brand I'll be choosing moving forward. If you are planning an event or booking for a large group, I would strongly reconsider. A confirmed reservation here does not appear to guarantee anything. read more

One of the exceptional places about this bar is that it's an indoor outdoor rooftop bar overlooking the river and the riverfront and you can see the boats and the container ships come by. It's also part of an amazing hotel called the Thompson. Perfectly situated on the riverfront away from all the craziness but close enough to walk. Also has a great bakery and coffee shop called stevedore on the first floor. We come here for the sourdough bread every time we come to Savannah. Food is always fresh and very good with a Middle Eastern Mediterranean flair. read more

Bar Julian is a bit of a hike from the usual historic district crowds and the river street area but it's well worth it. It is a bar/restaurant located on the top floor of a boutique (Hyatt owned) hotel. Getting to the top is nice and quick with easy access to the elevators. Once on the top, you'll soon be greeted by a friendly face and sound of good music playing in the air. All the seating is first come first serve. The menu's top item is the Mezze platter that comes with hummus, whipped feta, red pepper spread, crudité, olives, dolmas, giardiniera, and oven bread. It's a little steep for $28 but can easily be enjoyed by two. The one gripe that I have about the platter is that it only comes with two pieces of bread which is insufficient to enjoy all the dips. One extra piece of bread will set you back another $4. I think a platter this size and cost should really come with four pieces of bread. Nonetheless, the views are absolutely stunning from this rooftop bar and you almost feel world's away from all the crowds. read more

This is a review mostly of the Frosty Social Club - decorated for Christmas. SO magnificent! I can not recommend highly enough. We hit the bar around noon right after checking in for a girls weekend. This place hit every button. We had a glass of sparkling wine and ordered the hummus, mezze platter and sausage pizza. Each item was delicious. BFF fell in love with the oven bread (pretty sure she ordered more). Service was great. Pricing for a hotel was very reasonable if not downright cheap for the eats. HIGHLY recommend. Came here for Sunday brunch right after yoga. My friend and I sat at the bar. We ordered the Julian Latte (it was really yummy). We also got the loaded potatoes and Shakshuka (I got mine with bread, and my friend got hers with grits). The loaded potatoes were really yummy, and shakshuka was good, too. The bread is so good! Recently stayed at the Thompson and tried Bar Julian twice during the stay. The first time was for dinner and while the food was okay, the service was horribly slow. We had a hummus appetizer (there is an extra charge for bread, which is really good), a pizza and chicken kabobs. The hummus and pizza were decent. The chicken kabobs were pretty good but hardly any meat. We went again to try breakfast and experienced the same issue with service - extremely slow. Again, the food was okay but nothing was very good. After our food was delivered, I tried to wait to eat so I could ask for hot sauce but the waitress never came back until we were nearly finished. The space is beautiful and the views are breathtaking. If I went back, I'd probably just stick to drinks and would skip the food. read more

Bar Julian is a fun bar at The Thompson Savannah. I really enjoyed the Classic City Draft beer. (I think that was the name) It was real fresh and happy. The male bartender was excellent. The female one was very unhelpful when I asked for some ice dduring the day. She wouldn't give me any. Meh I wanted to try their burger, but ran out of days. The whole bar area had a really nice vibe. They had a singer a couple nights. She was great. The whole area is very cozy. I would say stop by here even if you are not staying at The Thompson. I'm what you would call "a Lil picky " This place has some of the best tasting food that I have ever had. The staff was always pleasant, attentive, informative, and welcoming. Bar Julian is a rooftop bar with impeccable views of the city of Savannah and the river. It is a bit away from all the local shops but a quick off down the river. It was well decorated for the holidays with "Frosty's" pop up Christmas bar. Drinks were a bit pricey but again the view was breathtaking. Unfortunately, I couldn't provide a more acceptable rating. We snagged a table outside but it seemed to take a while it to get cleaned. I ended up grabbing menus from another empty table inside so when our server arrived we were ready to order. Sydney, our server, really tried her best but think she was a bit overwhelmed. In total we ordered 1 holiday drink, 2 beers and an espresso martini. The espresso martini was delicious and one of the best ones I have had, but it cost nearly $20. There was a party near us who ordered multiple drinks as well and they similarly waited a while for their table to get cleaned, get menus and drinks. Needless to say, I would return to this bar solely on the gorgeous view (and possibly for an over price espresso martini). read more
