I want to like this Chuy's because I love the Austin location so much. But after three tries this location has struck out. The food isn't good, great or excellent. It's generic and doesn't have the authentic tex-mex taste nor do the ingredients seem particularly fresh as I've had at other Chuy's. The margaritas were affordable but didn't get the job done even at top shelf. Additionally I don't go for the wait staff but our waitress could work on her customer service skills as she handed me the bill prior to even touching my plate and said, "not trying to rush you out or anything", needless to say I did not order another drink. read more

Tonight they failed to meet basic sanitation standards for restaurants. Bar personnel mishandling the equipment after picking up trash and dust pan without washing your hands afterwards is unacceptable. Picking your nose, touching your face then running your fingers through your greasy hair is unacceptable if you are washing the bar dishes that are being readied for use. Just really disappointed after giving this location good marks in the past. Made me lose my appetite and we left not wanting to return. They need to be retrained and busted by the health department to all go through Serve Safe recertification. read more

My boyfriend and I went on a Friday night for our date night. We walked in and it was packed and people waiting every where. We walked in and got seated right away at one of the 2 top tables. I was in there around noon today. We were served cold, stale chips. The food was not fresh. The enchiladas served to me were cold and did not taste like it usually does. This is a good tex-mex restaurant, but not exceptional, in my opinion. I do agree with others in that the queso and the boom boom sauce is pretty dang tasty! I had the chicken enchiladas with Deluxe Tomatillo sauce, they were good, but a little lacking on flavor. Service was really good though! She was fast, friendly and even gave us a free bowl of BoomBoom sauce to try since it was our first visit. If I was rating just the chips with creamy jalapeno sauce, I'd give it 5 stars. That stuff is seriously liquid crack. But I have to rate the place as a WHOLE and I just feel like their entrees fall short. Too much Tex and not enough Mex. Which is why I now tend to just order a bowl of tortilla soup (a bit bland and thin/watery but Tabasco helps) because by the time I've stuffed my face with more creamy jalapeno sauce than seems humanly possible, the soup just fills in whatever nooks and crannies remain in my stomach. read more

Horrible experience. We ordered over the phone and were told 25 minutes, great. We get there and call to do curbside pickup. I let the kid named John know that we were there to pick up our order. He said great, someone would be right out. 10 minutes rolls around and Still no food. I finally go inside and wait at the front for a few minutes for John to get done ringing in a shirt for another customer. I let him know that we have been out there for about 10 minutes and we are still waiting. He acts surprised and excused himself to find out what is going on. A few minutes later a young lady comes out and says "oh, He didn't tell us you were there. Your order total is xx." No, "I'm sorry for the wait" and John seemed surprised that they hadn't brought our food. So who's lying her or John. I then ask her, how long it had been under the heat lamps. She says nonchalantly "oh 15 minutes". So not only did they forget to bring it to me on time but now it's been sitting there under a heat lamp. Ridiculous. Needless to say this Chuys is a disappointment. This is the second time in the last two weeks at two different locations that their service had been laughably slow and lacking. read more

First off I'd like to say that this isn't the first time I have been here, I frequent often. The food is pretty good, the service was also good and the staff was friendly. The only complaint I have is about an employee named Bailey. She was the utmost unprofessional, rude, and arrogant person I have ever encountered at the restaurant. Her attitude was garbage and she treated my wife like she was jealous of every aspect of her, which I don't blame her because my wife is like a 9 and she's well...not gifted in the looks/personality department. But that's not the issue. She has some personal problems she needs to take care of outside of work, not inside. So overall, I give the restaurant a 3/5, the service a 3/5 (3s are good by the way), cleanliness a 4.5/5 and atmosphere a 3/5. This place just isn't a 5 star restaurant unless they tighten the reigns up on Bailey, or just get rid of her, then it could be a 4 easy. Overall Recommendation: Check it out sometime! read more

Chuys is hit or miss regardless of location. I had high hopes for the new denton location. But when your first bite of chicken enchiladas contains bones, it's hard to keep an appetite. The manager did take care of my meal, but the excuses were flimsy. It was not the server who left bones in my food - but after reporting that, I was suddenly left with a different server, mid meal, who had to do nothing but take my plate away. How do you tip that?! I wanted to tip the original server, not someone who took my plate away and handed me a check. So the food and the service is sub par. I will never forget having boney enchiladas. read more

Probably my favorite Tex-Mex restuarant in the area... Everything I like about Chuy's see below: Chips are perfect thickness and texture, not too salty and served warm. Salsa is fresh... not that tomato based ketchup crap some people call salsa. This is more like pico de gallo but with the consistency of salsa. Fresh home-made flour and corn tortillas. perfection! Their Queso is amazing. It is super flavorful... might be a little much for some, but I like cheese with spice. The deluxe tomatillo sauce is AH-MAY-ZING! its a white sauce, sour cream based... it is not like your typical tex mex sour cream sauce. it is much tangier less creamy. Gives your chicken enchiladas a little more zest... Both flavors of rice bring something different to the dishes. I like both. The beans are exactly what you would expect (re-fried or borracho)... anyone who says differently I don't know anywhere else you can get better??? Unless you like half an Oscar Meyer wiener in there I have no idea what ya'll are talking about. Its the same here as anywhere else. Things that need Improvement: The guacamole... it is bland. I like it because I use it to calm down the heat of the chilis... A little lime would really help it out and they could/should chop a few chilis or jalapenos in there to spice it up a notch. Other than that I can't really complain. My personal recommendation for newbies is the combo fajitas with flour and corn tortillas... with the green chili rice and refried beans. Add a little salsa on top (or hatch chili sauce if you prefer a little more kick) and it's pretty tasty.... for the adventurous... order either the chicka chicka boom boom with an egg on top and a side of hatch green chili sauce to top it off, or any enchilada for that matter, top that sucker off with an egg and some sauce of your choice and voila! Drinks are amazing too, especially during happy hour. My personal favorite is the strawberry house margarita (frozen) and the coronarita... they call it something different but its essentially the frozen lime margarita with a bottle of coronita and a shot of whatever you like... for like a buck extra. I gave Chuy's another chance...the 5th time I tried the place. I figured I just needed to try a different dish. I got custom enchiladas and the filling was sparse and dry. The tortillas were inedible, so tough I could not cut them with a knife. Normally, I love charro beans and the green chile rice but this time everything was so hot and spicy that just a small taste burned my mouth badly. A Texas based Tex-Mex restaurant should know better. After 2 visits: Refried beans - they are vegetarian and can also be used as a replacement for cement. Boracho Beans - kind of seemed like a lot of water was added to the refried beans and then was served to me in a bowl Spanish Rice - rice was fat and heavy with too much water and bland. Green Rice - see above and add in a couple of strands of what looked like boiled down cilantro stems. Vegetarian Enchilada - for some reason was served with chili sauce on top, contained 3 or 4 bits of vegetable Shrimp & Cheese Relleno - cooked in a fryer, not in a pan. Kind of reminded me of the breading on chicken strips. Not much cheese, 2 medium sized shrimp. Cheese Enchilada with Ranchero Sauce - had been left to sit before being served to us so the cheese had solidified, tortilla was al dente. Ranchero sauce had dried on top of the enchilada and there was very little of it. Southwest Enchilada with Boom Boom Sauce - husband thought chicken needed to be pulled apart more (shredded) instead of in solid clumps. Boom Boom sauce is bland queso mixed with bland green chiles. And it has a stupid name. Shrimp Taco - deep fried shrimp were fine, quantity was good, cabbage was crisp, sauce was bland. Fish Taco - same as shrimp taco. Both could have been better with a more flavorful sauce. Margaritas - House margarita was pretty basic, so was the one with blood orange. The special part came later with jaw pain. Waitstaff was just fine, so is the seating. Atmosphere perfect for those wanting to relive being 14 yrs old again. 1990's dance music is alive and well at Chuy's. If you must go, I suggest asking for a small bowl of the hatch chile sauce to go with the chips and salsa. You're on your own with the entree. Almost forgot! Chips - Not sure if they are fresh or store bought (taste store bought but husband saw women making fresh tortillas, so...), but they do warm them up in the oven for you so you can have the illusion of fresh chips. Medium thickness. The menu has nice descriptions of food, but in the end it's just another chain. read more

Chuys! YUMMMMMMMY! I love their chips and salsa and that's what determines quality to me. If a Mexican restaurant has rotten chips and salsa, how can you expect the menu items to be good? I've never eaten anything but stellar food here and their tortilla soup is awesome! It's different than most recipes but it is absolutely divine. My husband loves their Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom: freshly-roasted, hand-pulled chicken & cheese with Boom-Boom sauce, made with cheese, roasted New Mexican green chiles, tomatillos, green onions, cilantro and lime juice. The decor is fun and bright and it just makes you feel happy. Don't leave without taking a look at their t-shirt wall (all the shirts are for sale, too) because most of them have underlying humor. Great place for fun and delicious food. Oh yeah....the drinks are super good too! read more

I love Chuy's. Their mango margarita is the best thing ever. The raspberry one is also really good. I normally get the Hatch Green Chile Enchilada (the friday special) but if it's not friday I'll get the fajitas for 1. Both are really tasty. The hatch chile enchiladas can be really spicy or really mild depending on the batch of hatch chiles they get. So glad they opened one in Denton! read more

I've had Chuy's in Austin over 50 times. I tried the Denton location twice and it's as if the Denton store has a totally different food supplier as the food quality and taste is not up to Chuy's Austins standards. Consider sending staff up from Austin to properly train the Denton associates as well as change food suppliers. read more

Got here at prime dinner time so we had a wait but it less than 30. Our server was quick and attentive. So many great choices on the menu i decided to leave it up to my server. I was given chicka chicka boom boom. The chicken was juicy, flavorful and they were not stingy with the amount stuffed in the fresh made from scratch tortillas. The bite will get you on the back end so be prepared for that. Happy hour goes from 4-7. Can't hate on that! Hostess and servers dress code is a little too relaxed with skin exposure for my liking. I absolutely love Chuy's. My husband and I have been to the one in uptown, Plano and this location. Uptown is still the best, but this location was awesome too. I could eat their fresh hot sauce with a spoon. I have tried several different things on the menu but I always come back to the chick-a-chick-a boom boom enchilads. Absolutely fabulous. I would give them 5 stars but I am just not a fan of either of their rice. Oh well, that just means some more room for a tortilla. read more

I had Chuy's for the first time recently and it was awesome! The atmosphere is fun, the service was great (took about 20 min for a table for 4 on a Friday night, but once we were seated, the waitresses were speedy), but the food is what shines. We've been spoiled with amazing Tex Mex in Houston...however, this comes really close and even surpasses in a few areas! The chips are super thin and salty, the salsa is amazing (chunky yet liquidy with a little kick and lots of lime flavor), and all the food really feels homemade and authentic.
