I was attending a wedding in Denton, TX and decided to make a weekend out of it. My wedding date and I decided to do some recon of the town the night before so we knew all the hot spots when all our friends arrived. We made our way to Denton Square and started bar hopping. We found ourselves at Paschall Bar by way of recommendations from locals. At first we were confused because what we thought was the door led to an abandoned looking basement. Then the other door out front led to a bar that sounded like they were playing metal music. Then we saw a red light above a door and decided to try that. Voila! We found a staircase leading up to the speakeasy. Stairs is the only option as this building is one of the oldest buildings in Denton. It's been around for close to 150 years and you can definitely see and feel those old timey vibes. You can see the aged look that I appreciate they kept. The bar is dimly lit with dark wood walls, tiled ceiling, a bookcase with old books, chandeliers, and even a big buffalo head. This to me is the definition of a speakeasy. Customer service was amazing on both nights we visited. The minute I took a look at the drink menu here and saw the bartenders at work, I knew I was in for a treat. They had all the classics, but they also had a signature and seasonal menu as well. If you want beer or wine, they got that too. It was fall when we visited and my eyes fixated on their seasonal menu. Everything looked good, but I went with the Great Outdoors. I was their seasonal take on an old fashioned. Instead of an orange peel as a garnish, it came with a flaming marshmallow. The first sip transported me to the times when I used to go camping. They used top shelf bourbon and the drink had a smores taste to it which is my jam. I absolutely loved this drink and have been missing it since. A drink that was a close second was the Lavender Lane. This was a vodka drink with hints of lavender, vanilla, and some citrus. It also contained egg whites which gives it a smooth, velvety feel when you drink it. Delicious! I'll be the first to admit that I was not expecting Denton to have such wonderful bars and speakeasies. We loved this place so much that we bragged it up at the wedding and brought a bunch of people here the next night. I would without a doubt come back here when in the area.

This place was a nice surprise! I was attending a show at the below bar and accidentally ran into this place. I love speakeasies and this definitely has that vibe, so I had to check it out after the show was over. You have to go up a flight of stairs that end at small window that has a person ready to greet you and check your ID of course. Once you go inside you're immediately transported to a sophisticated and classic old time. There's open seating and tables everywhere, the walls are filled with frames, paintings, mirrors, bookcases and lots of interesting decor to look at. I love the vibe of this place, I just prefer to go when is less crowded. You have to order your drinks at the bar, you don't get service. The bartender made a special margarita just for me, it wasn't in the menu. I need to go back to this place with my husband.

Yes yes and yes! It was everything I wanted and more! I had some neighbors tell me of the amazing cocktails at Paschalls. The first time I tried to visit they reached capacity and so I didn't get to go but I did this time! It reminded me of a Gatsby-Medieval Castle- Library home. When you step in you'll understand what I mean! It's a smaller place so seating is very limited, however you may be lucky like us and snag a table just perfect for us. I love trying new cocktails but often it's a risk because I like complex drinks but only if they're sweeter and easy to drink. If you're like me - get the Apple mule drink. Wow amazing. Like a spiked apple cider but you barely even taste the spike! I'm not sure if it's customary or if it was today but we waited in line to order which is awkward but I LOVED. I hate feeling like I have to fight other people to get the bartenders attention. The lady who helped me was very helpful and kind enough to answer all my questions. And the rec she made was perfect. I definitely need to come back with my husband! Thank y'all for the wonderful time! Bartenders deserve all the tips!!!!

Cool vibe with some games available to hangout and enjoy the company of friends, not just drink.

Love this speakeasy bar! It's a great hidden gem of Denton with the most amazing unique drinks! I love the atmosphere here with art and books covering the walls and chesterfield sofas for seating too! There's darts to play as well, along with soft chill music. A lot of people come and go but I'll stay here for hours relaxing and sipping on my cocktails made by the wonderful Tristan! It's the bourbon and craft cocktail lovers dream spot!

Salvador Dalí -such an awful drink. Only had a few sips and it's $12.00 down the drain. It's very thick and flat tasting.

This place is not the same. From my favorite bar to I will never be back. The drink menu changed but it's really the staff interaction we had. The girl was cold and rude. The drinks were not handled correctly. Gently stirring drinks that need to be shaken aggressively, not measuring the liquor properly and shorting the drinks. I couldn't even get my favorite drink cause they didn't have all the ingredients to make it. The whole fruit bar they used to have up front is gone making this place super average. What a letdown.

Probably one of the best "Speakeasy" vibes in Texas. Very friendly bar staff and great drink menu. The Smoked Old Fashioned hit the spot!

Ask the Community - Paschall Bar

Do they offer non alcoholic drinks?

Is there really outdoor seating? This page says there is, but I want to confirm because I haven't seen anyone.

    No, there's no outdoor sitting.

Is the entrance easy to find?

I would say no. There is no sign that says Paschall, it's almost like a speakeasy in that regard.… Read more

    Casual, hipster crowd.

    Is cigar smoking allowed here?

No cigar smoking, but it does kinda have that vibe.

Walk in via J Theodore, the ohone booth is to the left. It's a cool novelty calling with a book name to enter via the book shelf. Once inside the speak easy area there were two seating options. The Library which is set away from the open lounge area and quieter or the lounge area with the bar. They would not let us pick our spot despite seating being available. We opted for the lounge area as the seat offered to us there was better to our preference. The tables are packed quiet tightly which i dont like personally but i get it. That tidbit aside it is definitely a cool environment. Service was really nice and the food we ordered was great. I presume it's the same menu as J Theodore so I'm going to have to try that now for a more restaurant style meal. This is a cool place to hang out and bring friends imo. Since we don't really drink we'll probably end up at the restaurant next time as it's not easy to eat on tiny tables. It's a bar/lounge after all.

Instead of continuing with a 5 top they put us at a 4 top and expected us to squash in. Well this was a birthday celebration and we didn't want to be uncomfortable. I asked for a chair to be put on the side of the table even if it was tight. It took me asking 3 times. Not sure what the host didn't understand the first time as he just stood at the podium doing nothing. Secondly, this is a speak easy. The door to the entrance should have been closed and opened upon phone call entry. It's what makes the presentation. It was wide open, so no point in the phone booth. Again, an issue with the host bar. Other than that, our server was a beautiful long haired/blue eye girl who was so attentive. She made some recommendations I appreciated. The food was amazing! We all shared the portobello tacos, steak frites with sweet potato truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, Asian tuna salad, and ended with the Kahlua cake. It was all fabulous. And whomever they had as entertainment on 2/21 was incredible. Great voice. Ambiance is why I've come in the past and why I'll come again. I just hope this situation with reservations won't happen again, otherwise that will be my last time. At this age we come to enjoy a place not get squashed like sardines.

The venue is designed to resemble a Prohibition-era speakeasy, with an entrance accessible through a rotary phone inside a red telephone booth (which actually works!). Our tour was led by Jamie, who shared his extensive knowledge as he guided us through the Prohibition Era alongside our concierge, Landon. The speakeasy features stunning floors made of 120-year-old Italian wood, beautifully decorated with art, books, and a selection of premium entertainment and spirits. Patrons can request "prescriptions," which are 2oz alcoholic shots inspired by the owner's grandfather, who was a pharmacist. Cocktails and friendly service was provided by Emma and Kyle, their services were a nod to Bob Ruede, RPB's renowned Intoxicologist, along with other award-winning bartenders recognized for their excellence in service and hospitality. I made my reservation on Resy. A couple of days later I get a call from the restaurant saying they needed a $25 deposit over the phone, in case we cancel. I have dined at a lot of restaurants but never have I made a deposit upfront, they would just have a card on file and charge it if there is a no show. The lady on the phone (Chelsea) said we would only have 90 minutes at our table, which is standard for most restaurants. Nevertheless we paid $25 and kept our reservation, since Valentine's Day is busy time I figured this was the reason for all of this. Upon our arrival we were seated right away, and as soon as we sat down the hostess let us know that they would need our table by 5:45pm, because that is when the next reservation would be there. Right off the bat I felt rushed. I hated the table we were sat in, because we were so close in proximity to other people. Tycoon is very pretty inside, but if you are not seated in one of their spacious booths, the other tables are so close together, you will definitely hear other people's conversations. Let's talk about the food, I ordered the Lavender Lemonade as my cocktail and that was really good. For our appetizer we had the Deviled eggs, and I was excited because I love Deviled Eggs, but these were just okay. I didn't love how over stuffed they were, I just felt like it was too much. For my entree I had the Chicken Parmesan which I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought my meal was flavorful and the pasta was perfectly cooked. My husband had the sea bass and he loved his food. To end the night we shared their Dessert Trio and that was delicious, aside from the Creme Brûlée because that had no taste. Their service was good. Our waiter was nice and attentive. I definitely didn't feel rushed by him, but the same hostess stood near waiting for me to take my last bite of pasta so she could take the plate from the table. We were watching the time the whole time to make sure we got out of there on time. Overall I was disappointed. I get that Valentine's Day is busy day for restaurants but I don't want to be rushed through a dinner that should be enjoyable.
