[[HIGHLIGHT]]Their smoking area was small, but laid out extremely well with leather chairs and a large TV screen.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The humidor was also rather small, and several of the cigars were pricier than I've seen. The first time we came here it was amazing! Food was incredible, drinks amazing, cigars were smooth. We brought friends back tonight and horrible service! Waitress could not remember anything. Had to ask multiple times for water. Took 30 minutes to get my glass of wine. Had to go to the bar to get the ice cube for whiskey she forgot, and then forgot again, and still never realized. And the one thing we ordered, chocolate cake, had to go back to the bar to ask them to get. We would have ordered more drinks but at this point it had been over an hour and we were over it. When the bill came, had additional items on it, so back to the bar to fix it. At this point restaurant should have done something to make it right. On the fence if we will try again. read more

Stopped by Monarch Stag with some co-workers. They wanted cocktails, I wanted food -- so this was a nice compromise being that Monarch Stag delivered solidly for both. We ended up order a variety of food and drinks. All of the food was great! From a timing perspective, we went on a Tuesday evening. While the venue was mostly empty in the main dining room and bar, the private room was full. This made service extremely slow. We went last Friday night for a fun date night. At first we were really impressed with the vibe of the place, but unfortunately the service and pricing were a complete letdown. I eventually had to just get up from our table and go to the bar to pay our check to leave. I gave them a credit card and then after we left realized we had been over charged for two items (oysters and filet) by almost $15! I've called several times now and have yet to get anyone to answer the phone and there is no email on the website. The Monarch Stag is a beautiful bar! I loved how well the interior was decorated. They had a few lounge chairs and booths. We walked in around ~9:30/10 pm on Friday and there was a live country music performance. After the live music set was over, we had the same woman that perfumed the aerial hoop from the Glen (next door) pop over to do a few sets. The service was quick, and the waitress came around often enough, but did not feel hovered. Since we had dinner next door (The Glen), we didn't order food, just drinks and dessert. Monarch Stag truly stands out with its perfectly balanced Old Fashioned. Most places I've been to have the wrong ratio, but MS nailed it. Additionally, the inclusion of a cozy cigar lounge adds to the overall experience, making it an ideal place to unwind after a long day of work. Although parking proved to be a slight inconvenience, it's important to note that this is beyond Monarch's control. Braden, our bartender, took excellent care of us and recommended what to order. Monarch Stag appeared in my TL on another social and was listed as a combination restaurant, cocktail bar and cigar lounge. Considering I enjoy all 3 of those things, I was excited to check it out. Not to be confused with Monarch in downtown Dallas, Monarch Stag is as nice, in its own way. Located at The Star in Frisco, it comes from the same founders of J. Theodore and Rare Books (both located in Frisco) and based on my experience, they do a nice job in being all 3 things. I met friends and upon arriving we were immediately impressed. It started with the service from the valet parking staff as they were prompt and friendly. Upon entering, we arrived at a small lobby area where we were greeted by the hostess and then escorted to our table (while not required, we had a reservation). Once seated, a server quickly came over, introduced herself, served water and shared the cocktail specials for the evening. She then gave us time to catch our breath and check out the menu. After a brief time, our server returned, and we placed our order for drinks, starter and main entrée. For drinks, I went with the Monarch Stag Smoked Old Fashioned. The presentation of this drink was nice and thankfully, the drink matched the presentation as it was tasty. For the starter, we shared the Wagyu Bee Bites and an order of Truffle Fries; both were delicious. For my entrée, I went with the Chilean Seabass and it did not disappoint. Through the entire time we were there, our server was present enough without being a constant interruption. She kept our water glasses filled and always arrived just in time to see if we needed another cocktail, etc. As for the space, it has a very cozy and somewhat intimate feel to it. While I did not go into the cigar lounge, from what I could see it seemed to be a decent size. Add to it, the humidor appeared to be well stocked. Also, as importantly, the dining and bar area did not smell of cigars which implies the lounge is well ventilated. While all the food was delicious and it is a nice option, my primary reason for return visits will be cocktails and to check out the cigar lounge; for me, this felt more like a lounge than it does a restaurant. I brought my hubby here for his birthday dinner, we were supposed to dine next door at the Glen however they were having a private party. For dinner he got the lobster pasta and I got bacon dates, I honestly wasn't a fan of either. The pasta tasted super fishy, which meant it wasn't fresh at all. For $60 a plate I'd like to think they were serving fresh food, I had to take stars off for that. The cocktails weren't very good either. The 3 stars are for our waitress and that's it. You have to make reservations to Monarch Stag because there are only seven tables and a small bar. Come on Fridays or Saturdays for the live band and aerial performance and any day for the wonderful service. The food was decent and the drinks were wonderful. The Ceviche and Fries were good but the Paella and Brussels Sprouts were disappointing. I forgot the drinks we had but both were delicious (possibly the Desperate Housewife). Also, the original Old Fashioned looked stellar as it came with a cool presentation. The best part of the meal was the Creme Brulee. More specifically, the best part of the meal was the Peach on the Creme Brulee. I wish the peach alone was a dessert accompanied with some ice cream and it would have been fabulous. It has a humidor so you can purchase a cigar and smoke it there. I didn't check out The Glen next door, but apparently, it's a pretty sweet bar. read more

I made reservations for a late Thursday night dinner and I will say they had a full house at 9pm for I definitely recommend making reservations. Monarch Stag is a very intimate lounge. There is a bar, cigar lounge, a few round booths and a couple small tables. Tables are spread out, allowing you to enjoy private conversations. I loved how dim the lounge was because it gave such a sexy atmosphere. There are lamps on your table to turn on in order to see menu which was a huge plus. There was also someone singing nice jazz songs and took requests. There is only 2 servers which is more than enough for how small the lounge is but I did feel like they could move a little quicker. You can tell that they have their regulars that they spent more time with and gave more attention to, because I had to flagged the manager down to inform him that I was ready to order then my waitress came back apologizing (because we were sitting for almost 25min waiting to place even a drink order). That's the only reason they were not 5stars. Food is pricey but I expect that for that location in Frisco and because of the type of vibe/ambiance (high end) the lounge is. I ordered a dozen oysters, wagyu bites and crab cakes. The crab cakes were my favorite but everything was good. The crab cakes had a good portion of crab and not a lot of breading and the sauce that came with them were fantastic. The wagyu bites came on a sizzling hot plate with 3 different sauces for dipping. The wagyu literally melted in my mouth, I just wish it was seasoned more but I get it was a little bland because you're suppose to use the sauces (which all 3 were really good). Oysters were very fresh. Also ordered a bottle of wine and it was fantastic also it was cheaper to just buy a bottle rather than ordering 2-3 beverages so keep that in mind. Seating area is small, I don't suggest coming with more than 6 people unless you're okay with sitting at multiple tables. The drinks were great! Food was delicious! The black rock fire jump shrimp was really good, and the bacon wrapped dates were good as well. Someone had ordered the wagyu beef bites, and those were pretty tasty as well. I was told i was "too close" to the VIPs that were set to arrive in 15 minutes. We went back and forth debating why I couldn't/shouldn't be there. I was FLOORED! The VIPs arrived mid debate & heard me say, "so what do you want me to do, ask them if they are ok if i am next to them?!?" He walked off annoyed and the VIPs offered me a chair. I later found out the VIP was his previous boss & her family...nice people! I have never felt more humiliated in my life! I took a picture of the bartender, paid & left. Will DM you. The Monarch Stag is a fabulous hidden gem. It is pretty small but wow. Not much like it in the metroplex. I know some go for a drink before heading to the Glenn or Dee Lincoln. You walk in and the bar is all the way to the ceiling and lit up. Just about every bourbon you could imagine. I have gone twice now and one of my favorites is the blackened shrimp. Overall the place seemed nice looking on the outside. The place had cool but cheap elements. It kind of looks upscale but isn't. They put cheap brick accent walls in which didn't go with the rest of the place. There are a few fun pop of decoration here and there but it isn't throughout. Service was horrible. Our waitress was horrible at her job. She would walk away before we were even done ordering. We ordered the Wagyu beef bites. What we got was rough chopped pieces of beef some pieces were about the size of a pea. They were supposed to be cubed. They put three condiments on the side and none of them really complement the wagyu. First was an over vinegary chimichurri, then was a watered down cheese sauce and the last was a brown gravy. All places in a small pouring cup but none of them you could pour. We ordered two sub par cocktails. Clearly it was the bartenders first day in a bar. When I saw this place was open I was very excited to come try this out. This place is a new restaurant, owned by the same owners as rare books bar in Frisco. I have always loved rare books bar (a speakeasy located behind a secret bookshelf!) and when I saw they were opening a sister location I was pumped. So, Friday night I tried this place out. First off - it is another speakeasy type vibes. I recommend calling before for a reservation if you have a large group of 3-4 or more. This is because there is sitting inside however during times when they have live music (which is almost every night) and on the weekends they did have a large crowd. I went with my boyfriend and they were able to sit us at a table since it was just two of us (we did call prior to going as well just to make sure there was room). There is also bar sitting of about 8ish maybe seats. So that is always an option as well. First to start we got espresso martinis these are amazing ! Additionally we ordered the broccolini and wagu beef sliders. The broccolini came with a nice tomato sauce topped with parm. This was very delicious. The wagu beef sliders were a bit pricey. It came with just the sliders no side (which is why we ordered some broccolini) however, regardless both items were delicious. Service was excellent. Live music was amazing. And how can I forget about live ring dancer! Absolutely will be coming back ! They are opening a restaurant thats going to be connected as well however it's not finished yet! Must go!! read more

Pretty interesting, I can dig it. This establishment fits right in with the classy exclusive spots around the area. The entrance is a giant nice looking mahogany door. Upon entry you're greeted by the lovely hostesses in an exclusive looking reception area, totally closed out from the inside so you can't see or hear what's going on inside. Word of advice make a reservation for Fridays or Saturdays or you will be turned away at the door. I've seen that happen a couple of times while was checking in. Inside is immaculate. The place is small. Not too small, but still small, which adds to the intimate vibe. I love what they did with the decor. I thought it had an old English library feel with a modern classy twist. The leather couches, multiple wall candles and digital illuminating art on the walls make it really nice for a date night. They have a fireplace which adds to the vibe, and the Stag head above the fireplace to keep with the theme. Service is above average to pretty incredible. I've been lucky enough to get amazing service the few times I've been there. Food is really good, served tapas style. They aren't playing with their drinks selection either, especially whiskey. I'm a whiskey guy so I know. Very extensive collection. Another big plus is that they always have some type of live entertainment going on every day including weekdays. Usually it's live music but on the weekend they step it up a notch and throw in an lady swinging from the ceiling doing a performance. For the cigar lovers you will be pleased to know they have a cigar room with very classy decor and some of the best cigars around. The room is through a glass door to the side of the lounge. Only downside I can think of is that it's really difficult to get in without prior reservations. To be expected for a place like this though. Overall I really loved the few times I've been here. They have an huge wall of whiskey and bourbon, as well as bourbon flights you can try. The other cocktails are very high end and delicious. I tried the "Melony" a watermelony, gin situation which was spicy and sweet and very pretty, I also opted for a couple of dirty martinis, and they had bleu cheese olives which is always a plus in my book. My friend tried the adorable "Flirty Bird" which was very citrusy and refreshing, topped with a whipped cream to look like bubble bath and a cute little rubber ducky to finish it off! We just tried the apps, the fried artichokes and truffle fries were amazing, the bacon wrapped dates were very good as well. There is a cigar lounge which we did not check out, but if you're not into cigar smoke, don't worry it is a completely separate area and won't disturb you at all.
