Met a friend here for brunch. I had the chicken sandwich with the sweet chili sauce and an espresso martini. Both were very taste. I believe the price for the drinks were a bit much for the size of the drinks. Service was very good. Jackson was attentive and friendly! We sat on the patio, the weather was great. Came here to enjoy a family meal with my brother and parents and have to say that the Restaurant carries a great ambiance! If the weather is nice I recommend sitting in their patio! The service was good, and when a leaf fell into my dad's wife the staff gladly provided a refill, which was appreciated! The appetizers were very good, with the meatballs being some of the best that I've had, and would gladly recommend! The calamari was also very good and it had a sweet sauce alongside the traditional marinara sauce that paired very nicely with the calamari. I will say for the price point of $23 that I would have hoped for a larger portion, as it was pretty small. The French onion soup, was solid but did not really stand out versus other French Onion soups I've had. For an entree I did get the waygu burger- French style, and have to say that I was extremely disappointed with it. The burger had no flavor to it, the burger did not seem to have any seasoning and the aioli and the cheese was not able to impact the flavor profile at all, it was definitely very bland. The fries though were delicious and very crisp. The rest of my family enjoyed their food, and highly complemented their tacos, and my brother got the ahi tuna salad, which I tried some which was very good. The menu is definitely will put together and would come back to try something else as they had many options that sounded craveable. It must have just been an off night with that particular burger as everything else was delicious, but from my experience would recommend staying away from the burger. read more

I love J Theodore. It's my go to for a double date or delicious dessert (I love the chocolate raspberry cake). I've been three times in the last 4 months, so I've got some things to share with you. Sometimes the service is a little lackluster. People doing a job. Not terrible or even a little bad, just unmemorable. The food is very good which makes up for that. In the evenings they dim the lights and it's intimate, especially if you've got a booth. Brunch is great, with the exceptional note that they do not have specialty milks. No almond, no oat, no 2%. Whole milk only. For a place that claims to have barista service (and not just a server making a coffee), I find this shocking. But again, the food is VERY GOOD (see photos). Dang it. I love love love their chocolate raspberry cake. I won't tell you how many times I've popped in for a slice of cake, but we'll just say it would be embarrassing. I love coming here but I hate the prices! We enjoy the cocktails and ambiance (this time there was a huge group of obnoxious ladies but they were having fun). We love the deviled eggs with candied bacon to start. We normally get the sliders and fries but this time we split a burger French style. The staff is always great and they make celebrations special. I wasn't planning on sitting down at J Theodore, especially not at 10:30pm on a Saturday night, but the Rare Books Bar quoted us a 30-60 min wait (Separate review for them). We decided to grab drinks, truffle fries, and a slice of cake. Service was good! Nothing notable, but nothing to complain about either. The ambiance was interesting, it is definitely upscale, but there was a DJ playing extremely loud club music with awful transitions between songs. A handful of people were dancing too. Food and Drink review: -Eye of the Tiger Cocktail: It was okay. It tasted almost a little powdery, like there was emergenC sitting in it. No where near worth $17 -Guinness: it is what it is....for $8, seemed a bit steep, but it was fine -Parm truffle fries: hardly any parm, fries were just alright. Serving size was decent -Strawberry and lemon cake: Also just okay. The serving was large, but it was notably cold and not particularly moist. This isn't on par with the typical slices I've gotten from here in the past Overall, 3 stars because we left feeling disappointed. For upwards of $65, two drinks (one of them being a beer), fries, and a slice of cake was not something worth writing home about. We won't be returning. read more

They could approve on making their food fresh, eggs Benedict are they had any hollandaise sauce on it had to order a side, they didn't even know what kind of ham they serve at the restaurant. The staff was so busy watching the soccer game that they didn't even care. Severely overpriced for what you get this restaurant has severely gone downhill in the past five years . The omelette was so thin I could not believe my eyes could've made it better at home or could've gone to IHOP . My bill was 150 bucks with tip will never die there again . Okay, this place wasn't terrible, but it's certainly not impressive. This is the second time I've been here, and both times I was unimpressed, but this time pissed me off. I came in for happy hour, and don't get me wrong, service here has always been great, but I ordered the charcuterie board, and that was a mistake. They put four slices of small salami folded up on a skewer, three thick slices of cheese, and a pile of rabbit food, and called it a day. The jam was fine, the nuts were fine, the bread was nice, and the cheese was tasty, but they put the absolutely minimum amount of meat to allow them to claim that there was a "chefs selection of meats and cheeses" on the board. If I could use profanity in these reviews I would have in this one. Offensively little meat in the meat and cheese board. read more

This speakeasy is nestled in a strip mall. The place is small and intimate. You just go behind the bookshelf. They play live music that is good. Our waitress was very nice and quick. I ordered a cosmopolitan but was convinced I must try the espresso martini. It was delicious! Before this I've only had one at Del Friscos is NYC and it was horrible. They do have a small menu. We ordered the eggs and bacon. By the time the night ended I was in good spirits. Super bummed tho I left or lost my Christian Dior wallet somewhere there. read more

J Theodore's - Disappointing Experience I've been to J Theodore's before and really enjoyed it, especially the mussels, but this visit was extremely disappointing. * Food: The mussels were $40, yet tiny, overcooked, and nearly half the shells were empty. The two slices of toast served alongside were cold and stale. The $14 truffle fries were also cold and had absolutely no truffle flavor. * Service: The service felt unprofessional and careless. With 12 people in our group, the tip was automatically added--but the staff seemed to take that as a reason not to try. * Value: For mussels, fries, and one drink, my bill came to $84. The quality of food and service did not come close to justifying that price. Overall, this was a disappointing night out--bad food, bad service, and outrageous prices for what was offered. I went here for a brunch baby shower that my friends threw for me and the outside is so beautiful. It was a small party about 10 of us and they sat us right by the fireplace which was amazing because it was a little chilly in November. Our waiter was so nice and kept asking if people wanted to order drinks as they arrived opposed to having to wait, and the guest loved that. I can't speak to the drinks as I'm pregnant but they did make me a virgin strawberry drink that was very flavorful. However, the same cannot be said for the entree. Biscuits were great but the chicken and waffles fell flat. The waffle was very dry and had no taste while the breading on the chicken was soggy and tasted like nothing. While the food I ordered wasn't good, some of the things my guest ordered was; such as the Benedict and steak and eggs. Recently dined here for dinner on a Friday evening celebrating a friend's belated birthday. We had a reservation so there was no wait to be seated. The dining area was semi-upscale and clean. We decided to move over to a different area where there was live music and a more relaxed atmosphere. We kept it simple and ordered pulled pork sandwiches, truffle fries and a few alcoholic beverages. The food was pretty tasty and drinks were on point. The service was excellent! Everything from third eye blind to Elvis, very cool. We booked a reservation online through Open Table for Friday at 630, but it was pretty quiet and could have walked right in. Service was good. Never waited for anything and water glasses always filled. Our food... jar of lobster and a pesto Flatbread for starter. The jar was the reason the hubby wanted to go. I read a lot of mixed reviews but we loved it. There was a lot of lobster and the butter garlic juice was great. Yes its pricey but it's lobster so not surprising to me. The Flatbread was very large. It was good but nothing to write home about. Pretty pricy for a pretty basic pizza. That would be the biggest drawback here... most items feel over priced. Spring salad with no meat for $20? French fries for an app for $14? A $25 Flatbread? Burrata for $21? And believe me, I'm more than happy to spend $36 for a tiny jar of lobster but many things just didn't seem like they should be as high as marked. He got the French dip. It was good. Not the best we have had but good. Now... me... I got the scallops with risotto and it was possibly one of the best scallop dishes I've had in a long time. Well, J. Theodore certainly delivered... just not in the way anyone would hope. Let's start with the food: one of the three of us barely touched his overpriced entrée--which I suppose is a creative take on "light dining." The Brussels sprouts appetizer? A bold choice if they were aiming for "inedible." The berry salad managed to be just okay, and the Margherita flatbread? Let's call it dough-forward--because it was clearly shy of being fully cooked. But the real star of the show was our waitress, who clearly mistook an almost-empty restaurant for a fast-paced airport terminal. She noticed one of us hadn't eaten his meal and, instead of the usual "Is everything alright?", she ups the charm by offering a to-go box mid-bite. Classy. And for the grand finale, she returns to the table and loudly asks how we want to split the bill--as though three corporate executives out for dinner needed to Venmo each other $35.00. Both were delicious and a must try - arguably some of the best mussels we have had here in DFW. First thing I'd like to say is the service is fantastic. Came here with my girls for a birthday HH and Seth was so attentive and accommodating to our needs. The food was unbelievably delicious- we had the margherita flatbread, calamari, truffle fries, and shrimp cocktail and nothing disappointed. Their mango salsa (served with shrimp cocktail) is fantastic, but it would be perfect if they had chips to go with it as well. While the shrimp cocktail has some pretty good size shrimp (medium to big), I feel like $16 is a bit expensive for just 4 shrimp. The dinner items can be a little pricey but their happy hour food and drink menu is all you need. The atmosphere is very hip and trendy. I love the lighting and it's not too loud at all. Not sure if it's a racial thing but we made a reservation on open door at 5pm but when we got there the hostess said that that the restaurant was fully booked so they automatically kick all of the "open door reservations" to the patio. I thought it was ridiculous because it was 105 degrees outside and there were so many empty tables. We sat outside for maybe 5 minutes before my husband got up to say something. They said they were fully booked but they said the next reservation for the indoor table was at 7:30pm. Which I thought was ridiculous because our reservation was at 5pm which is plenty of time to eat before the next reservation. They ultimately "let" us eat indoors after we complained and even during the whole meal, none of the other tables were even occupied when we finished eating around 7. So much for "fully booked". I call BS. During the meal, I watched the hostess try to seat another Asian family outside too which they declined. Food was okay, I wouldn't come back for the restaurant but the speakeasy was nice. Drinks are cheap and nice ambiance. They had live music was well.. Our favorite drink was the cherry bourbon smash. read more

The server picked a cocktail for me and it was tantalizing. Sorry, I can't remember the name but show your server the picture and s/he will know. Yum. The mussels were hands down the best part of the meal. It was so good that I took the sauce home so I could toss it in some noodles. The Garlic Parmesan Fries were fine. I liked the Scallops but the Risotto was slightly undercooked. The Spicy Shrimp Salad was fantastic but $24 for a salad is outrageous. The Jar of Lobster is tiny but the bread soaks up the sauce really well and I enjoyed that. I took home the recommended Blueberry cake and it was amazing. I got the scallops for $44 and I received four small scallops, with 80% of the plate being risotto (I've had jumbo scallops before, these were not it). Calamari ($23) was a tiny basket of super small and hard pieces of calamari rings. Service was mediocre at best. If you're paying these kind of prices, service should be excellent. I'm so glad I found this place on a recommendation from a friend when I happened to be in the Frisco area. The ambience is very upscale without being stuffy. It has a sophisticated eclectic vibe. There were a lot of art deco nods to the decor as well. Very cute place to go out with the girls or bring a date. The service was amazing. Very attentive, and Kim went above and beyond to make sure my food and experience was top notch. The food looked too good so I had to try the fries AND a pasta entree, and she had stopped by to check if I wanted those fries first so I could eat them hot before the entree. I loved that attention to detail! Let's talk about the food.....SO DELICIOUS!! The fries were hot, and instead of having seasoning sprinkled on top you can tell they properly seasoned them by placing in a container/bowl and tossing the seasoning to coast well before plating. This meant I never had a disappointing bite. Fries are a simple food so you have to execute them perfectly to elevate the experience and J. Theodore managed to do that. I also got the chicken pesto penne. I originally was going to take home half (bc of the fries) but it tasted so good I couldn't stop eating it!! They asked if I wanted any red pepper or cheese but I opted out to taste it as it's served and it had the perfect amount of flavor and cheese I'm glad I didn't alter it. The meal was hot, the chicken cooked perfectly so it wasn't dry, and the pesto cream sauce was divine. 10 out of 10 for both of the items I tried. Overall, you must come here. I live about an hour away but I will be coming back. I'm excited to try the dinner menu and they have a little secret speakeasy I'd like to check out too. I highly recommend you give this place a try if you are looking for something upscale but still with welcoming service and tasty food options that are both simple and complex. We had the calamari which unfortunately was a let down as it was over cooked. I ate the salmon which was delicious! My husband had the seafood pasta which was done perfectly.
