I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience tonight at The Barrel in Bartonville was unacceptable. Our waiter made at least four separate mistakes throughout the meal, but one was completely avoidable and had real consequences. We specifically asked him to have my young son's chicken and fries cooled before bringing them to the table because we didn't want him to burn his mouth. He acknowledged the request, but either forgot or ignored it. The food came out straight from the fryer, and within seconds my son burned his mouth exactly as we were trying to prevent. As a parent, that's incredibly frustrating. We communicated a simple safety request, and it wasn't taken seriously. That alone overshadowed the entire meal. For a restaurant that prides itself on providing a high-end dining experience, the level of service we received was far below expectations. Multiple mistakes throughout dinner, combined with a preventable incident involving a child, left us extremely disappointed. We came expecting great food and professional service. Instead, we left frustrated, disappointed, and questioning whether customer care is truly a priority here. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because no family should have this kind of experience over a simple request that should have been easy to get right. read more

We heard about this place from our neighbors. The vibe is upscale whiskey bar, but the options go well beyond that. We've been back many times since. Monday is $5 martini night, and happy hours on most nights feature $10 burgers and quite a list of half price cocktails. The Smoked Old Fashioned is a must for any bourbon fans. The burger is mighty good as well. Precede it with the brussels sprout app. Our wine tasting group recently went to our third tasting dinner, which was hosted in the "secret" speakeasy which is entered through the kitchen. The food was absolutely superlative, and the paired wines were well done. The manager introduced the selections and was very personable. They have their own wine club. Due to the quality of the wine at the pairings, were were quite tempted to join, but in the end decided to just patronize the place more often. read more

Julia was amazing in no way does my review reflect her in anyway. Out of our four dishes only one came as it was described on the menu. My steak tartare took 10 minutes longer than my friends salmon that was actually cooked. The Caesar salad had zero watermelon radishes on it. The crispy brussels sprouts are not crispy. They in no way are crispy. They are sauced up and soggy. The Prosecco was good and same with the salmon with the risotto, delicious, the drinks were amazing. I can only assume that they have very young people in the back of the house like they do all over in the front of the house and behind the bar. read more

We went here in October; hadn't tried it because I kept hearing about high prices. It's not! Their prices are reasonable, their happy hour is generous, and they have a burger special on Mondays. We loved everything we tried - perfectly cooked, served promptly, just terrific all around. If you're lucky enough to get Eleanor as your server, take every recommendation she offers; you'll be glad you did because she's outstanding. Food here is always good and the drinks are great. We had the Elk Crostini for an appetizer. They were fabulous. Dinner was good. I had the 6oz filet with whipped potatoes and asparagus. The filet was slightly over cooked but still tasty. The potatoes were over whipped almost pudding like no substance at all. I wish the plating was different. My asparagus was drowning in the potatoes. There's was no way to eat just the asparagus. My husband's short rib had wonderful flavor. For dessert we tried the white chocolate bread pudding. It was a bit dense and really needed more of the sauce that was in the description. It came out more like garnish on the plate. I do like this place. The staff is nice. I received a Barrel gift card for Mother's Day and couldn't wait to get over there to use it. We came on a Saturday evening around 5:30, had a reservation and was seated right away. Our waitress was incredibly kind, offering recommendations and suggestions to make our dinner choices more delicious! We sat outside where is was very cute and had a nice water feature running next to it but I do think after May it might get uncomfortable at certain times of the day due to the heat. We tried quite a few things while we were there - salmon wontons which had wonderful filling and crispy exterior. Some drinks both alcoholic and non alcoholic, the waitress was also very patient with me when I confirmed my drink was non alcoholic which I really appreciated. We also had two delicious entrees, the ribeye and the short ribs. We both really enjoyed our own as well as the other persons. Depending on your mood and possibly how hot it is outside you might prefer one more to the other but I found both to be delicious, served quickly and very filling. We splurged and got the bread pudding as well and it was so incredibly good but after we ate everything else it was the one thing we didn't eat completely. We enjoy The Barrel but I need to caution you if you go in the winter. Any table by the door is very cold. We were there for an impromptu happy hour on Monday (I guess reservations are recommended for the bar tables) and the table by the door was the only option the hostess said was available. It was very chilly and coats were needed. (We later learned that we could have been seated in the speakeasy area but the hostess was more interested in the phone than sharing helpful advice on seating.) Go to The Barrel but make a reservation, requesting away from the door. In the bar area, request booth seating against the wall and you should be good. read more

If your a Bourbon Connoisseur they have you covered! If your a Wine Connoisseur they have you covered! If you enjoy Great not good but great food Chef has you Covered! First thing that was noticed was the placement of the Silverware, which was polished to a brilliant shine, the Wine and water glass, not a single spot as one would expect in a fine dining establishment. Our Waiter Xander quickly came to the table, and when asked about house favorites was quick and knowledgeable about the menu and foods! Absolutely spot on descriptions, including the sauces and flavoring of the foods! We choose the Oysters and Deviled Eggs appetizers! I had the Ribeyes and I am a Beef purist, no sauces just give me the meat! Cooked perfectly, I didn't need a knife this steak was simply amazing, I have had 140.00 and Ounce WAYGU that was not nearly as tasteful and so perfectly cooked as this steak was. The sides were some mashed potatoes and asparagus both flavorful and perfectly paired with this steak. Now I orders three orders of the scallops with my steak as I love scallops, these were not dainty little scallops they were big and tasty. Perfect cook on the scallops seasoned just right still allowing that sea taste to come through! We opted for the homemade Bread pudding, wholly Mother of Mary! This dessert should be illegal it is so absolutely delicious you have to tart it all, you can be completely stuffed you will make room for this dessert! I can not say enough about how well we were treated by the amazing staff, our Waiter Xander was truly an absolute pleasure to speak with, and a consummate professional, his recommendations were spot on! We asked politely to sit at a different table (a corner one), but she curtly said it was reserved. Fine, we then asked to sit at the bar, and her snarky tone made it clear she wasn't thrilled about that either. When we sat down, she and another employee came over to wipe the table while whispering and giggling to each other, extremely unprofessional. We waited nearly 10 minutes without so much as a greeting, water, or menus. Finally, we decided to leave. On our way out, we let the hostess know we hadn't been helped, and she replied, "We were about to send someone." Really? After 10 minutes of being completely ignored? Between the attitude, lack of service, and overall unwelcoming vibe, it was enough for us to leave before even ordering. The place has a cool vibe but they need to put more tinit on the front doors. There's no space to wait if they're on a wait so be prepared for awkwardness as you stand over the first table which is placed too close t the door. The bread is good but delayed to deliver. My wife and I were excited to have a date night at the fairly new restaurant in Bartonville. We had remembered it as a wine bar with some live music. I will say upfront they've done a wonderful job with the space. Patio looks like a fun spot once the weather cools down too. Bar would be a fun place to watch games. Quick rundown, the food needs improvement at this price point. The folks working there are very cordial, just seems to me lacking in service experience. The theme of farm to table is even reflected in their checkered blue shirts. Good ideas here just execution not quite there yet. Also make reservations as they were pretty busy this Friday night. We had to make reservations at 5:00 because all the other spots were taken, but we did notice there were several tables empty throughout the evening as we had after dinner drinks. We started the evening with a fun drink menu. Lots of creative ideas. I went with the smoked old fashioned and my wife went with the Tinkle on the Blower. Both very good drinks. Also went with the charcuterie board ($25) which is one of the important factors for my wife on whether she likes a place. This one had the basics down. Some pickled vegetables with it that I didn't care for but others might. This night featured a blueberry coated soft cheese which was really good. Cured meats-salami prosciutto, capicola types. Mini-puff pastries were one of the best on the plate. We had an after dinner drink at the bar and the couple next to us had the same sentiment about the cheese board. It's enough for two, very light for four people. Dijon mustard was just a little too strong for me. Fruit slices also there and probably would have been nice with a glass of wine. Also ordered a rabbit arancini, a house wedge, and chicken fried prime NY strip.....all of which came out within just a few minutes of each other which is always awkward. House wedge probably the best deal in the place at $9. Based on the rest of the evening, I might have ordered the $30 steak with the salad and called it a victory...but filing that away for next visit. At this point the server took my unfinished glass of scotch unbeknownst to me. Why didn't I notice? Well when the chicken friend strip came out, it was on a hot plate. The young lady (not our server, just someone kind enough to help out) plopped it down in between us and promptly burned my elbow ....nothing serious but just enough to wake me up and keep my attention away from the drink. To their credit they replaced it with a full drink at no charge. So no harm done there, but just some really rough sequences. The rabbit arancini was called the chef's choice and I thought it was interesting given that it has Romesco which I normally associate with seafood. Also Arborio, Parmesan and ricotta deep fried. Came out really dark brown and clearly could tell it was overcooked. When the manager came by to apologize about the drink mixup she asked what I thought. I pointed out that I thought it was definitely overcooked and quite bland. No offer to replace it with a better version came and for a higher level restaurant I would think they'd love the chance to try it again. Chicken fried NY strip....well I should have known better and just ordered the ribeye, but I like ideas that might change the way I've previously had food. This one came out atop mashed potato's and green beans. So for a NY strip meal that comes out with vegetables included, $23 seems decently priced. But the flavor of the fry was really bland. Mashed potato's also unevenly seasoned. Bland bite mixed in with a seasoned bite here and there. The green beans though reminded me of grandma's East Texas style. Cooked with slices of bacon and seasoned great. I mentioned the seasoning issue to Blake while we had after dinner drinks and he mentioned that he had them adjust some because the feedback prior had been over seasoned. So perhaps they over-adjusted. Hoping they can dial it in because there's some potential here. After dinner drinks were a really great time. I'm afraid to say I can't remember her name but the bartender was really up to the task of listening to what we like and recommending drinks. And she delivered nicely. Now I did take the leftovers home as I figured I could season them up and they would be pretty good. A little remoulade covered the rabbit, and some pepper fixed the steak. Looks like they change the menu based on the food they acquire. Love the idea of farm to table, again people there very nice. But I'd get the staff trained up a little better on finer dining points and offer to re-cook mistakes. Hope they can take this feedback and do better for our next visit as we will give it another shot. Bill came out to about $110 or so and we left $20 over that. Tucked away in a series of small retail stores off Rte 407 in Lantana its a great location with ample parking and nice outdoor patio for dining With a nice sleek indoor environment and a large bar area this is a great place to go and enjoy the weekend game at the bar Our reservation was for Saturday night 6:15pm and the place was starting to fill up. Even with it being a busy Saturday eve we were given over 2 hrs to dine and enjoy our dinner - its nice not to be rushed Our appetizers were the charcuterie (easily feeds 4 and it did) and the mussels togarashi. The mussels were very tender and served in a flavorful broth - enough to serve 3 For entrees we had the pan seared salmon , seared duck breast and I had an off the menu special - rabbit risotto Our sides included crispy potatoes, butter green beans and asparagus . Size of entrees is ample and actually 2sides would.have been enuff.. GO with crispy potatoes and Green beans ! Service was excellent, our server Noela was always around when we needed her but not intrusive or rushing our meal. Booked an event for 30 in their speakeasy and had confirmation. Arrived the day of and they had canceled my reservation. They told us that they had called and didn't get a hold of me but never followed up over email. They put my phone number in wrong and never tried a second poc after it didn't go through. They told me they could sit 7 of us at the bar and would cover the first round of drinks. Would not recommend for any meaningful events because of how huge the mess up was and all they were willing to do to fix it. My wife and I found this restaurant to be excellent in every way. Great service, Creative drinks as well as an extensive whiskey list. Fun and tasty appetizers. Fresh, tasty, well-seasoned, well-presented food. So, my review will merely mention the food and drink highlights, knowing that service was top notch all the way. We tried two of their signature drinks - Resting Peach Face and Show Me Yours. Loved them both for being creative yet not forced weird. All of the food was also excellent. Barrel Meatballs were well prepared, nicely seasoned and not swimming in sauce like so many places. The crab cake was real crab and nice breading but no oil taste or fishiness at all. Served on a sauce with an additional sauce on the side. One of the best crab cakes we have ever had. Goat Cheese Salad was crisp, nicely dressed and generous on the goat cheese. Texas Goat Cheese Grits were firm and not runny grits with the cheese mixed nicely throughout so every taste was full of flavor. For desert we split the vanilla bean crème brulee, which was caramelized on top to perfection and bursting with vanilla flavor. What a disappointment! We came here last for our anniversary when they had first opened and it was a great experience. So we decided to come back again for our anniversary this year and that was a huge mistake! The service was soooooooooo slow! And it was a Sunday with at least 5 servers working so they was really no reason for it. The person we think was the manager was just sitting at a corner at the bar stuffing her face and doing something on her laptop. Not once did she look around to see how things were going or engage with any of the guests. The food was ok. Not as good as we remembered it to be. We mentioned it was our anniversary to the server. Usually a restaurant at least gives you a scoop of ice cream or some small dessert but she did nothing. And it wasn't because she forgot, since she mentioned it again as we signed our check. At the very least she could have provided us with a little extra special service vs. basically ignoring our table. Incredible experience and wish I could've found this gem sooner! Will be back ASAP (will find an excuse other than birthday or anniversary). First impressions were elevated, small, intimate, attention to detail was not lacking in the slightest. Awesome decor, the music isn't blasting and you can actually hear who is dining with you, and seating is comfortable with plenty of room -- doesn't feel like your smashing into the table next to you. DRINKS-- incredible. Pricing on point, fresh, purées made in house. Great wine and whiskey selection. If you like a spicy marg get the "No Trowsers"-- DELICIOUS and made with habanero ice. My boyfriend enjoyed their smoked old fashion (great pour), and we both have high admiration for their espresso martini now. FOOD-- top notch. Every bite we took was fresh, delicious, attention to detail and quality tasted with every bite. Stand out bites for us included the bacon wrapped quail on goat cheese grits (HEAVENLY), the lamb shank was melt in your mouth incredible, and my bf greatly enjoyed the pan seared elk. I just realized I had never updated my review since the first time I went to The Barrel. It was brand new and I tried to not be too harsh. I will tell you that I read a lot of their reviews and the best thing is that you can tell they care about their customers, because they listened. The Barrel is really a great restaurant with top notch service. I have been back 4 or 5 times and have recently joined their Cork Club. I am looking forward to future visits. Sitting on the patio for happy hour was a fun visit. Steak, salad and bourbon cocktails were all delicious. Going for a girls night is a lot of fun. The Ceasar Salad with Steak is a perfect choice with a glass of wine. Our most recent visit was with friends, on a Thursday; Ladies Night. Parker was our waiter and he was very helpful. I tried a friend's pork chop. I am picky about pork chops, but I would definitely order theirs. For our appetizer we shared the tuna wontons. They were very good. The sauce was amazing. They really need to include a spoon to scoop it up. We poured it out of the serving dish onto our plates. My husband and I shared the steak fried rice. It was good, especially with the carrot side. I had the whiskey stick and the Wingman cocktails and enjoyed them both. read more
