I am like a kid in a candy store here! Owners and staff are simply the nicest in town. Steve and Karen have a true gem here. Heather is my favorite server. Cheryl is the best kept secret somm in DFW. Even my daughter likes to go and she is just developing her wine palate. She is not intimidated which is unusual in wine bars. They will help you pick the perfect wine. My husband enjoys all the beer options. The music is always great. And the group wine tastings are always top notch. The wine club is an amazing value. They even host dinners with wine pairings and host trips to different wine regions across the world. All while supporting everything local. Arrived for a girls night and a wine tasting. The service was non existent. Had to get up every time to find someone to assist. Request new stemware for transition from white wine to red, and was told "we typically don't give new glassware because we have to wash them". Flabbergasted!!! Request their cheese charcuterie board, it was store bought cheese thrown onto a paper plate. Not sure why you offer this fare if you're not going even try and make it nice. Our visit to Steve's was great. Svetlana was a great hostess. Very nice, explained the menu, and let us know how to get 10% off since it was our first time. The extensive wine menu has many new and interesting wines. You can get a flight of 4 different wines of your choice. We stayed for the live music - a NOLA Jazz band - and ordered food from Hootchies since they don't have a full kitchen. We enjoyed ourselves and are considering joining the wine club next month. I can't believe I have not been in Steve's Wine Bar before in downtown Denton! My niece graduated from North Texas (4 year degree in 2!) and we had her graduation party there last week. What an adorable place! They had the back room reserved for the party, the room was colorful and had nice artwork and seating options. Perhaps it got a bit cramped with as many people who came to the party, but that was ok, still cozy. They have a really nice patio with string lights and had the interior decorated nicely for the holidays. The wine selection in the front room was good, they had a variety of options available at different price points. The servers were very friendly and accommodating. The band that played that night was really good, I wish I had more time to sit and enjoy the environment, will def be back in the future! Great experience, I highly recommend! read more

We just happened to find Steve's Wine Bar while in the area and are so glad that we stumbled upon it. This is an oasis that creates an instant sense of relaxation and calmness once you enter the doors. Located in an up-and-coming area of Denton Steve's Wine Bar is a great location to expand your palate and wine knowledge and be able to catch some live jazz at the same time. We arrived on a Saturday evening after they had just completed a large group tasting succession. You could tell that they were trying to make the transition from the event to normal operations, but they managed to take care of the customers that were coming in with grace and speed. There are multiple rooms here which are nice because it helps control the volume of the conversations, and provides you options. They also a nice patio on the west side of the building so even on a hot summer night it will get shade earlier and start cooling down. You can get wine by the bottle, glass or even do a taster here. It looks to us like they do some monthly wine selections that you can do as the tasting menu, with options for either 4 tasters or 8 tasters. The tasters are at two different price points so you can also do 4 or the less expensive or 4 of the high-end. Cool way of structuring it. The staff was very knowledgeable about the wine and was able to provide some helpful information about the varietals of each wine and help you explore the flavors on your palate. I am excited to return here for some of their jazz music and update this review once we have experienced a night of live music at Steve's Wine Bar. read more

The New Yorker in me feels at home at Steve's. I mean, where else can you hear some cats from Brooklyn blow the roof off a joint with some hot Jazz beats in the middle of the DFW metroplex other than Steve's? Well, as it turns out, most of Denton. Denton hosts some pretty legendary musicians because of their epic Jazz program at UNT. This means you can sort of haphazardly stumble into a world of really amazing artists for the price of seeing someone you would rather throw some produce at. Sure, there are other local venues, but they pale in comparison to Steve's. This place is part of the community, and they treat you like family. Steve and Karen recently moved from a much smaller location and believe it or not; it was the local community that helped them move. The New Yorker in me is shocked. Steve's new place is great! The same vide with a little more elbow room. Great happy hour, nearby food is deliverable, and separate, private room for parties. They still have live jazz music from students at UNT on select nights. The place is still fairly quiet and offers free WiFi, which is great when I need to get some work done. Easy, free, or cheap parking is close and an easy walk to Steve's. All in all, Steve's new place is great! read more

Okay you guys, get ready for a review from someone who has never been to a wine bar before! I haven't even stepped foot in one because I had a perception of them being expensive, pretentious and uptight which is the opposite of fun. I also rarely drink, so why would I end up in a wine bar? Steve's Wine Bar was the BEST first experience with a wine bar anyone could hope for!! After dinner with yelp friend T.W., we were perusing the historic district for a place to chat and this was on her bookmarks and is right on Hickory and Oakland. We entered the establishment which was fairly busy and took a seat at the bar in high swivel stools with wooden backs and cushioned seats. I really liked the cozy atmosphere, it was welcoming and not pretentious at all. There was canvas artwork and the original brick had been preserved and it was really cool to hear about the history of the building later in our visit. After we settled in, Steve came by to ask what he could get for us. My fellow yelper requested a sweet, white wine and I agreed to the same. I didn't plan to drink much at all as I had been up since 3am, had been sick most of the day and had to drive home soon. After a sip of the splash he poured for us to taste, I realized it was a bit strong and I was still recovering from being so ill, so I shouldn't be drinking at all. While my fellow yelper agreed to a glass for the extremely reasonable price of $5, I got ready for what was sure to be an awkward to terrible experience. I placed my glass down, looked Steve in the eye and asked for a glass of water, waiting for the sigh or eye roll... that never came! He got me the water, asked if I wanted the glass filled and went along with business with no attitude or judgement toward me whatsoever- now that's service. We learned from Steve that they had been there about 6 months and only carry wines from small wineries, stuff you can't find at Kroger or Total Wines- how very special! Later, as us gals were chatting, Steve's wife, Karen, gravitated to T.W.'s empty glass to see what else we needed. Now Karen is beyond awesome and we got to learn even more about their business and a lot about the original building, we had a fabulous time!! Karen told us they are BYOF (food, friends and fun)!! Though they do have wrapped cheeses, crackers and mixed nuts, they do not have a kitchen so they encourage people to bring in outside food. Do you know how rare that is?? Also, due to their limited license it's legal for patrons to take wine or beer to go within the historic downtown area, which is a large area, and this has got to come in handy during the many festivals that go on around the square! How cool is this place? In addition to the variety of wines from small wineries they carry, they also carry ports, beers and several other concoctions so it seems they have something for just about everyone. I was extremely impressed with their prices which is a majority of the reason I have never previously been to a wine bar. As I mentioned, the wine I sampled and T.W. got was only $5 for a glass but in discussing their club and the tastings they host, I found out they have two packages for their tastings. One is $13 and one is $20- this is per person for the entire tasting, not per glass, isn't that amazing? While we were there it seemed all the people coming in and out were regulars and Steve and Karen were very personable with each. We even saw a couple bringing in their own food so that clearly wasn't exaggerated. We also saw their wine tasting room in the back which holds approximately 15 people and heard a lot about their tasting events. This place seems fun and laid back, why haven't I come here before? I love the relaxed, no pressure atmosphere of just catching up with friends and a drink without anyone getting rowdy or loud. This place is such a gem. I couldn't stop thinking that a yelp event needed to be hosted here. Regardless, any event, whether intimate or a large group, would be so fun here. I think their capacity is around 50 people, so plenty of space if you don't get crazy with your gathering, lol. Definitely a great option to stop by on a whim and extend a date or enjoy catching up with friends. When we left there, I was really happy with the place and felt like it was a 5 star experience but I realized that I had never been to another wine bar for comparison. I started grilling my fellow yelper on other wine bars she had been to and am fully satisfied that my initial gut reaction is quite right on the friendly service and the reasonable pricing. The one thing we got, that other places are lacking, is how unique and special this place is: filled with history and an exciting selection of wines that you cannot locate anywhere else. Steve and Karen are wonderful, warm, inviting, passionate. I see the love they have for their business and I love them! I know I keep saying special, but it really is; no other way to describe it. This is a pretty cool little place with friendly owners. The shop is very quaint with a small bar, but a large tasting room in the back and a walk in humidor which is pretty cool. They have a nice selection of wine but prices seem a little high. We came during happy hour and were very glad that we did. We stayed for about 30 minutes and had an ok time. The wine we got based of recommendation was ok, but not something I would buy. One of our glasses was dirty which was not cool. I would like to come back and get something from the walk in humidor. Not many of these in denton. Our experience wasn't bad, but nothing special this time. Will probably give it another try though. It's in a great location by lots of good restaurants. They have so many good reviews so it's definitely worth you giving it a try and seeing if you like it. read more

Legitimately sad to write this review. First time there and I reserved two seats for me and a friend to see the band play. We sat at our reserved seats for 20 minutes and were ignored by 4 people behind the bar, who were not busy with other customers. I said hello to two of them, asked if there was water and if we could order, and she looked up with an inconvenienced face and pointed to the back where the water dispenser was, telling me to go get it. We left 5 minutes later because no one served us wine. My friend and I are very understanding if a place is busy and we need to wait a minute, but this was not the case. Very disappointed. There was one very nice lady who worked there, but she was busy helping others. I had hoped for a normal level of hospitality, but service was overall rude and unavailable. read more

I fell in love with this place from the moment I walked in! The place is rather small and we weren't sure of the seating arrangements when we arrived, but one of the employees recognized our confusion pretty quickly and encouraged us to grab a seat wherever.
