This was my first time at Tycoon. I have been to Volstead and really liked it. They are similar, but Tycoon feels a little "fancier". The decor is very plush. I love the bar. I can't wait to go back and sit at the bar. Our waiter Shawn was great. Very calm, helpful and available when we needed him. The Lavender Lemonade is a delicious cocktail and a great way to start the meal. The Fat Cat Fries has so many flavors going on. They were good. I LOVED the Blistered Shishitos and Crabmeat Dip. The naan it was served with was warm and abundant. I do not like when you order a dip and hardly get any chips or bread for dipping. Tycoon covered it! Our friend had the French Onion Soup and liked it. The Steak Frites (substituted with broccolini) that our friend got looked amazing. My husband had the Wagyu Sliders and really enjoyed them. I had the Mediterranean Primavera with blacked chicken that our waiter recommended adding. It was very good. They have a nice wine selection. Not a huge list, but good. read more

So I have been wanting to try Tycoon for quite some time now. I decided to make reservations there for Valentine's Day, which was probably my first mistake. I made my reservation on Resy. A couple of days later I get a call from the restaurant saying they needed a $25 deposit over the phone, in case we cancel. I have dined at a lot of restaurants but never have I made a deposit upfront, they would just have a card on file and charge it if there is a no show. The lady on the phone (Chelsea) said we would only have 90 minutes at our table, which is standard for most restaurants. Nevertheless we paid $25 and kept our reservation, since Valentine's Day is busy time I figured this was the reason for all of this. Upon our arrival we were seated right away, and as soon as we sat down the hostess let us know that they would need our table by 5:45pm, because that is when the next reservation would be there. Right off the bat I felt rushed. I hated the table we were sat in, because we were so close in proximity to other people. Tycoon is very pretty inside, but if you are not seated in one of their spacious booths, the other tables are so close together, you will definitely hear other people's conversations. Let's talk about the food, I ordered the Lavender Lemonade as my cocktail and that was really good. For our appetizer we had the Deviled eggs, and I was excited because I love Deviled Eggs, but these were just okay. I didn't love how over stuffed they were, I just felt like it was too much. For my entree I had the Chicken Parmesan which I thoroughly enjoyed. I thought my meal was flavorful and the pasta was perfectly cooked. My husband had the sea bass and he loved his food. To end the night we shared their Dessert Trio and that was delicious, aside from the Creme Brûlée because that had no taste. Their service was good. Our waiter was nice and attentive. I definitely didn't feel rushed by him, but the same hostess stood near waiting for me to take my last bite of pasta so she could take the plate from the table. We were watching the time the whole time to make sure we got out of there on time. Overall I was disappointed. I get that Valentine's Day is busy day for restaurants but I don't want to be rushed through a dinner that should be enjoyable. read more

Friday evening happy hour with a friend and we needed a place to meet that was in between both of our work locations- Tycoon came up so we made a reservation! What a treat! We truly enjoyed this hidden gem of a restaurant. We ordered two appetizers and lemon drop martinis which was strong and tart- not overly sweet- a plus in our book! We had a really solid dinner here. The steak frites were cooked well, flavorful, and paired nicely with crisp fries. The wedge salad was classic and well executed fresh, cold, and generously dressed. Dessert sealed the deal: the crème brûlée had a properly caramelized top and a creamy interior, exactly what you want to end the meal. Service and food quality were both strong, so overall the dining experience itself was enjoyable. That said, one disappointment worth noting: although this restaurant participates in American Airlines Dining, the evening we went was considered a "blackout" night. That wasn't communicated clearly in advance, which was frustrating and took a bit of the shine off an otherwise good meal. Drinks are pricey if not happy hour and seats are crammed into bar area like sardines. Highly recommend the Espresso Express & Dirty Martini. Large group of 9 for dinner and honestly I didn't think the food/drinks were worth over $200. Definitely disappointed with Ricotta Toast that waiter said was phenomenal and Steak Frites didn't have a ton of flavor and weren't Medium Rare as ordered. When I first heard about the restaurant called "Tycoon" in Flower Mound TX i had my doubts but after having a business dinner at Tycoon on a Tuesday night I became a believer Described as a speak easy vibe - dead on accurate it is a smaller intimate restaurant with an elegant and active bar area and private intimate dining seating For dinner we shared a wedge salad and the bruscetta.. Bruscetta- big fan! Plenty of fresh tomatoes and great drizzle of a balsamic reduction , I could have had the "full portion" myself. Wedge salad was big enuff to feed two, greens were fresh and crisp - only criticism is i would have enjoyed more blue cheese crumbles Entrees , my buddy had the honey truffle chicken - looked great.. I had the miso sea bass - excellent. Sea bass was HOT but still tender and not overcooked - couldn't believe the finish. Fish comes over a bed of delicious creamy mash potatoes and some baby broccoli Service for dinner was attentive and professional, our server Ally was always available for needs. When you walk in it gives you the impression you are walking into a nice restaurant even though it is in a strip mall. But, as soon as you walk through the doors, the outside disappears into a small upscale dining area around a central bar. We were in on a Sunday evening and it was nearly empty other than a couple and a single person at the bar. The conversations between the patrons and that bartender were clearly audible which gives me the feeling if the bar were crowded it might get very loud. The service was good. I would say our server could have been more attentive to drink refills. It is a bit odd that given how empty this place was, he would disappear for a while. The food is what we all really want to know about. Unfortunately, nothing exciting to report. My son had the smoked steak tartare and given that he ate the whole thing I will assume that it was good. We also had the lump crab with spinach and artichoke dip served with pita bread. So, this tasted fine. It had good flavor but none of us could really discern crab. The basic flavor was a creamy artichoke dip with some spinach here and there. Other dishes sampled were the truffle French Onion soup which was apparently angel dusted with truffle and that wouldn't have mattered because the soup overall just wasn't anything to get excited about. We had a wedge salad which was a bit too much with the addition of entirely too much bacon and what may have been cranberries (?) and shredded carrots. Not a traditional wedge and I found myself looking for more lettuce and dressing to overcome the mounds of bacon. My wife had the Miso Sea Bass and she said the fish was fine but that the mushrooms did not belong. The one item I tasted that I thought deserved kudos was the Beef Wellington. Very nice and tender cut and the pastry was crisp and well prepared. The potatoes were good but the sauce that was on the plate was a red wine reduction and was a bit bitter and not enjoyable. Finally, the chicken Parmesan was not a hit for me. The sauce and the pasta combination are not traditional to chicken parm. I do not mind a break from tradition, but it should add something to the original, which this, in my opinion, did not. Overall, we all agreed the meal was nothing we would return for and for the price, it was simply not close to being worth the cost. We will not return for a second round. read more

I will say I was bit apprehensive on our first "visit"... which wasn't great...but I couldn't really judge because we didn't even get a table-- they were so busy and we couldn't wait an hour. Since then, we've been 5-6 times. I typically make reservations, but we have walked in and only had a five minute wait at least once. But I would still recommend reservations if it's a Friday or Saturday evening. We've really enjoyed the food, and considering prices are high everywhere, I have actually been pleasantly surprised with their prices for the quality of food and the ambience. It has a dark, but not too dark, trendy bar vibe... I think they're going for a speakeasy feel. Definitely love the decor And we've had some excellent wait staff and then we've also had some newer younger wait staff, but they have done a good job. The wine list is on an interactive iPad, very cool. You can filter for your exact desires and just point to it to order. If you don't like mustard, you won't like the deviled eggs. If you do, the whole bite is a lot, but really good! The steak frites are fantastic, I subbed the fries with the Thai Brussels sprouts and am really glad I did. Daughter got chicken parm and raved about the pasta (not rigatoni as stated on menu), instead it was rotini. This changes the way the sauce clings, but she liked it either way. BUT, this is the only restaurant that charges me $5 for Diet Coke when I order a whiskey and Diet Coke on top of the charge for the whiskey. Like no other place in this area (or anywhere else I've ever been to like ever) charges a drink as liquor + mixer. Not sure I'll go back with these shenanigans. Be better. Edited. Stumbled across Tycoon and wow--what a find! The vibe is relaxed but stylish, with a great energy that makes you want to stay a while. I ordered the French Dip and it was seriously one of the best I've ever had. Flavorful, juicy, and just done right. The service was excellent--super friendly and even took time to chat with me about the Stars game, which made the experience even better. Our review of tycoon based on an early Sunday dinner: food and service here rivals that of the big steakhouse chains. Our server, Joel, was outstanding - always attentive and available, and provided great recommendations. The prime rib was well seasoned and a perfect medium rare (medium for the wife). Sides from best to not best: 1) creamed corn - omg the corn here is out-of-this- world and is a must-order. They brûlée the top of it! 2) brussels- great flavor with a bit of kick - delicious 3) creamed spinach - very close behind the Brussels. Nice rendition of a classic with shavings of Parmesan cheese on top 4) duck fat fingerling potatoes - had us at duck fat but these don't compare to the other sides Pairing of a Daou Cabernet was perfect and their bottle pricing is extremely reasonable considering the quality of this wine. Carrot cake has a citrus drizzle on it which changes the flavor profile in a good way. It's pricey but it basically serves 2-4. Final pro tip if you got this far: there is a Sunday special on the Prime Rib which is an insanely good deal. We loved Tycoon and will definitely be back! read more

I'll start by saying you need to take all the Yelp reviews with a grain of salt. Maybe this is a YMMV place, but it's worth confirming for yourself. Also, you can easily run up a significant bill here--but you can also have a nice dinner experience for the same price you'd pay at neighboring places. It's all in when you go and what you order. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at Tycoon and enjoyed everything about the experience. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Our server--Madison--was personable and professional. For food, we started with wedge salads. Healthy portions, fresh and satisfying. I also had the crab bisque and it was excellent. Very flavorful and had more crab meat than I was expecting. Entrees were the prime rib (yes, we know it's available for $19 on Fri and Sun but my wife really wanted it) and the double pork chop. We enjoyed both. I didn't try the prime rib but the chop was super tasty, moist and was big enough I only had half so it was really 2 meals. We also got the mashed potatoes, asparagus and brussel sprouts as sides. All good--but the brussel sprouts were some of the best I've ever had. Explosion of flavor. Not nearly as spicy as we thought they'd be given the Thai chili in the name on the menu. Strongly recommend them if you like brussel sprouts. For dessert, we got the chocolate cake and the carrot cake (will provide dessert at home for at least the next 3 days). Both were good and the portion size is gigantic, which makes the $22 price understandable. Easily sharable for 4 people minimum. The only slight negative that is also mentioned in earlier reviews is the iPad wine list. I can see how the sales pitch from the iPad wine list people would make it sound good. Being able to read a little more about the wine than a printed menu provides is nice. But, it isn't consistent with the rest of the ambience we felt--which overall is fantastic. At a minimum, taking the iPad away after the wine is ordered would help. All in all, we're looking forward to returning here to try and happy hours, prime rib special and working our way around the menu. This place seems to us to be trying to be a play on a speakeasy. The doors are kind of masked, the windows are blacked out, the ambiance is quite dark but lavish, and there are a lot of pretty old school liquors. The menu is diverse but consise. I had lemon blueberry angel food cake french toast. It was exactly what that sounds like, dessert for brunch and it was delicious. My parents split waygu sliders and bone marrow. I really want to say this place is beautiful and I love the space and decor and low ambiance , the food I am sure would have been better with better service. I usually make time for dates with my husband we love to sit at the bar and have some drinks and food. It was kind of hard to enjoy a nice place with the bartender cursing worse than myself and I curse so this is how much she went out of her way to curse heavily and sipping her chick fil a straw while taking our order at the bar was unique. We tried to enjoy it but it was just so hard to as bar/restaurant owners ourselves, not notice many things about our server, sanitation and semi cold food because she was gossiping loudly with the other workers and there were only about four in there the entire time.
