I had a really bad experience. The last time was here, but this visit has restored my faith! Last time the curly head blonde bartender, just totally ignored me because I wasn't ordering from the bar, check with me like twice once when I order it once when he delivered my food and then didn't refill anything, and when I asked him for refills. He just ignore me basically saying yeah, but they're not doing anything. This time, Josh was there and he was an amazing waiter, he checked in. He chatted. Made sure my tea was filled on. Make sure everything was going well. Thank God the food here is always delicious so I wouldn't have come back. The food was amazing, I got the pesto Parm sandwich, it was huge and delicious. The chicken was perfect and tender. The pesto was zesty, but not overwhelming and the vodka sauce was perfect. The fries are always tasty, but honestly, I couldn't finish them... I ate all the sandwich, but it was just too good. You couldn't stop. One of the things I do love about this place is the cute speakeasy vibe and I've been here several times and the bartenders normally are awesome and very talented. When I'm not about to go to work, I'll stop by and have a couple of drinks. And I've always had a good experience except for that one time. I don't know if I have anything "new" to add to my review because most of the reviewers for Volstead seem to be in agreement - it's a fun, unique, eatery with good drinks & food. Today was no exception lol I MUST shout-out, Josh though. My drinks were AWESOME! He suggested the Clover Club (martini) and I don't have words to describe how yummy it was - then he made me a coffee drink that absolutely MUST make it on the menu. Good energy. I'm sure he's going to kill it at Texas State :) The cheeseburger was delicious & I'm mad I forget my to-go box (ugh!) of course I wanted more truffle on the truffle fries, but.... that's just me lol The service was excellent. The whole experience is worth the price. It's a fun environment and the food, drinks & service are awesome as well which isn't always the case with "theme" restaurants. We came for a family dinner early on a Saturday evening in mid June. It's definitely a "vibe" in there and you don't feel like you're in a strip mall in Southlake anymore once you walk in. The decor is really cool and there's lots of stuff to look at on the walls. The bar area looked beautiful but we were sitting at a high top table. The cocktails were somewhat creative and we all liked what we ordered. The appetizer hot honey pepperoni flatbread/pizza was honestly the best thing we ate. Everything else was good too but that was the standout. Service was prompt and efficient. I ordered the chicken sandwich with pesto. It was pretty good but the sauce tasted sweet(?) but it wasn't terrible. I think I would have ordered something different if I could do it all over again. My mom got some chicken with broccolini on the side and the only thing that was substandard was the broccolini. It was basically raw - I've never seen broccolini with thick stalks before but I guess it exists. It also had this sweet sauce on it that really didn't accompany the dish very well. Our server works at another location and told my friend about this place I feel horrible I can't remember her name right now but she's a ginger super sweet and took care of us and answered all of our crazy questions. Cool looking place, but my lunch was very disappointing. Had the Seared Tuna Salad, which looks good on the plate but had zero taste. The tuna - as another Yelp reviewer mentioned- was bland, somehow lacking any tuna flavor. The salad was equally bland - the amount of dressing provided was stingy and it wasn't bad but was also very uninspired. I ate four bites of the salad to ensure it wasn't just me missing the tasty parts but that didn't help. I left all the tuna except the first piece I tried and half of the second. When the server finally came by and I had a 90 percent untouched plate he didn't bother to ask if everything was okay - just said "can I take this away"? I think these are the same owners who have The Tavern and Tycoon in Flower Mound and I've never had anything but great food and service experiences at both so hopefully this was just a rare bad experience. Speakeasy atmosphere in the middle of a strip mall. Definitely a creative and chill vibe in there with great happy hour specials and solid food choices. Happy hour is from 2-6 mon-fri and has half off wine, cocktails, martinis and $10 on a few different appetizers. Great pricing for the quality of drinks you're getting and they have something for everyone. Food was also on point and great for sharing. Tried the popcorn chicken and spicy tuna crispy rice - both things go great with the beverages. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Only gripe is they add a rather large "Beverage Surcharge" of ~13.5% (came out to $19.5 for a $144.5 pre-tax bill that included a few food items) which was a bit shocking. Only explanation we got was that "everyone does it". Aside from that, this place is a solid spot to go. read more

Came here for lunch. I love the speakeasy vibe and all the available photo ops upon entering. I was sat right away and the service was very attentive from the start. I ordered the Crispy Deviled Eggs and those were delicious, they are topped with bacon jam which adds to the delicious taste. I got two drinks from the bar the first was a Bootlegger's Blossom and the second was a Lemon Drop Martini and they were both delicious. For my meal I had the Volstead Cheeseburger, which they said it was the best burger in Southlake, and that was not a lie. The burger was flavorful and perfectly cooked, the meal came with fries which were also tasty. Kevin was our bartender/waiter and he was awesome and very attentive. Volstead has been open a while in Southlake. They are the same outfit that owns Jane, also in Southlake, The Tavern, and Tycoon. Both the Tavern and Tycoon are in Flower Mound, and I have not visited, but I have made stops at both Jane and now Volstead. And I have to say, I wanted to be impressed, and I just wasn't. When I went to Jane, the cocktails were not up to snuff. My visit to Volstead, the cocktail was fantastic but the ambiance and food disappointed. I came into Volstead to check out the happy hour. They have a discount on wine, and half off their signature cocktails and martinis. They make craft cocktails, which were impressive, but only have one bartender. It takes time, but they could use another. I ordered a Volstead Vesper. It is a bold martini. Josh made it well. It was well balanced. Boozy yet balanced. And I love a lemon curl. A garnish can really elevate a cocktail. Five stars for the drink. I will come back and order another one. I also ordered their spicy tuna crispy rice. It was rather a disappointment. The serving size was generous, the crunch on the rice was there, and then it fell short. The texture of the rice was on the mushier side. The tuna was NOT spicy. It had been dressed in something, but it brought absolutely NO flavor or anything to the tuna. There was a wasabi cream and a sauce (maybe eel sauce) that dressed the plate, but the tuna was bland. A little soy, citrus, yuzu, sriracha or SOMETHING to elevate and brighten the tuna would have been EVERYTHING. So it just ended up being bland tuna, on undressed avocado, on fried mushy rice with some tasty sauces. It absolutely was not spicy. And with a little something something it could have been rather tasty. Even with mushy rice. When I walked in and sat down, there was no music playing so you were just hearing conversations bouncing off the walls. After about a half hour someone decided they needed some tunes, but then it was too loud and it was hard to hear the bar tenders. I loved the decor, and again, my cocktail was really rather good. The overall feel just felt kind of sloppy. It could have been awesome, and fell short. They claim to have Southlakes best burger, and maybe that is a better choice than the tuna. I may give it a shot. It got rather popular as I was leaving, the crowd a bit more mature. And maybe that is their bag. They have great reviews and high stars, I just didn't feel it. read more

The name of this place has intrigued me for some time. You see I am a bit of a history buff and the Volstead Act outlawed alcohol sales in 1919. Clubs still existed though, in the form of speakeasy's. Volstead is fashioned after a speakeasy from the era, and you feel it walking in. The place has an old time feel to it. My service was great. Came here for happy hour after several coworkers recommended it, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Watermelon Skinny, which was light, refreshing, and easy to sip on. For food, we shared the happy hour spicy tuna crispy rice and the oysters Rockefeller (not on the happy hour menu), and both were excellent. The crispy rice had a nice crunch with flavorful tuna on top, and the oysters were rich and well-prepared. We live really close by and had been to the restaurant that was previously there so thought we would give it a try. Parking is easy and they did a really excellent and cool job changing the decor from fish shack style to a modern vibe. I absolutely love the blowing bubble gum wall paper. What I really love about this place is there is an option for everyone and the serving sizes are huge! My husband and I shared the fish and chips because we knew we were getting appetizers and a dessert. The serving size of the split order could almost be a full serving at other restaurants. The quality is great as well and everything we had was very good. Our server, the bartenders and the manager were very friendly and checked in JUST the right amount. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant as I'd heard it's the sister restaurant of Tycoon in Flower Mound which we love. But our experience here was average. Started out with some cocktails which were great so that was positive. The restaurant overall is super small so even though we were only a party of 2 we were squished between parties on both sides of us and barely had room to keep my coat next to me. For apps we had oysters which were nice and fresh. We also had the fried rock shrimp which was tasty but they went overboard on the cilantro. For dinner I had the blackened redfish and the flavors were there but was dry and overcooked. My husband ordered a medium rare filet which came out medium well so they had to cook a new one so my food just sat in front of me getting cold while waiting for his new plate. So that was a huge bummer. They did give us a free glass of Prosecco to make up for it which I appreciate. We also got a side of the truffle fries which were good and gave us something to snack on while waiting for the steak to be refired. Water was coming to the tables all around us and finally when we did see the server again I had to request it. Spinach dip was ok but loaded with salt. The scene was set so we only ordered appetizers and French onion soup. The soup was hot but again loaded with salt. Warning: If you are watching your sodium intake, stay away from here. Finally, it looked like the manager was going around to all the tables asking how everything was, and he visited the table next to us twice. Lovely spot. Inconspicuous in a very lax spot in suburban Southlake, Volstead is refreshing in more ways than one. I thought the blacked out walls were temporary only to realize that they're part of the allure. When you walk in, you're greeted immediately by hostesses and once you sit down at the bar / the bartenders ask your name and from then onwards you're part of the Volstead family. First time at Volstead. Really quaint speakeasy type bar. Met some friends and had a terrific time. The girl who took care of us and really made our evening, Kayla (AGM) was amazing. she not only took care of us, but seemed to take care of all the customers well. I am big on customer service and the fact that this girl has only been there less than six months, but literally had such a command of everything it was really fun to watch her at work. They obviously train their employees well. Happy hour was great. The drinks were very well priced and the food was excellent. The happy hour burger was my favorite.
