Our server works at another location and told my friend about this place I feel horrible I can't remember her name right now but she's a ginger super sweet and took care of us and answered all of our crazy questions. (Photo didn't turn out) My friend had the burger & french fries so I got to try them and they were also delicious. I don't know if I have anything "new" to add to my review because most of the reviewers for Volstead seem to be in agreement - it's a fun, unique, eatery with good drinks & food. Today was no exception lol I MUST shout-out, Josh though. My drinks were AWESOME! He suggested the Clover Club (martini) and I don't have words to describe how yummy it was - then he made me a coffee drink that absolutely MUST make it on the menu. Good energy. I'm sure he's going to kill it at Texas State :) The cheeseburger was delicious & I'm mad I forget my to-go box (ugh!) of course I wanted more truffle on the truffle fries, but.... that's just me lol The service was excellent. The whole experience is worth the price. It's a fun environment and the food, drinks & service are awesome as well which isn't always the case with "theme" restaurants. We came for a family dinner early on a Saturday evening in mid June. It's definitely a "vibe" in there and you don't feel like you're in a strip mall in Southlake anymore once you walk in. The decor is really cool and there's lots of stuff to look at on the walls. The bar area looked beautiful but we were sitting at a high top table. The cocktails were somewhat creative and we all liked what we ordered. The appetizer hot honey pepperoni flatbread/pizza was honestly the best thing we ate. Everything else was good too but that was the standout. Service was prompt and efficient. I ordered the chicken sandwich with pesto. It was pretty good but the sauce tasted sweet(?) but it wasn't terrible. I think I would have ordered something different if I could do it all over again. My mom got some chicken with broccolini on the side and the only thing that was substandard was the broccolini. It was basically raw - I've never seen broccolini with thick stalks before but I guess it exists. It also had this sweet sauce on it that really didn't accompany the dish very well. Cool looking place, but my lunch was very disappointing. Had the Seared Tuna Salad, which looks good on the plate but had zero taste. The tuna - as another Yelp reviewer mentioned- was bland, somehow lacking any tuna flavor. The salad was equally bland - the amount of dressing provided was stingy and it wasn't bad but was also very uninspired. I ate four bites of the salad to ensure it wasn't just me missing the tasty parts but that didn't help. I left all the tuna except the first piece I tried and half of the second. When the server finally came by and I had a 90 percent untouched plate he didn't bother to ask if everything was okay - just said "can I take this away"? I think these are the same owners who have The Tavern and Tycoon in Flower Mound and I've never had anything but great food and service experiences at both so hopefully this was just a rare bad experience. If you are looking for a speakeasy experience, this is not the place. I have been to several located in Fort Worth and around Texas in Las Vegas. This one has nothing compared to what it normally is. It is super bright. They had TVs with football going on, and normally the place is supposed to be dim with music that goes along with speakeasy. The drinks were expensive however they did taste good and the food looked good. Came here for happy hour after several coworkers recommended it, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Watermelon Skinny, which was light, refreshing, and easy to sip on. For food, we shared the happy hour spicy tuna crispy rice and the oysters Rockefeller (not on the happy hour menu), and both were excellent. The crispy rice had a nice crunch with flavorful tuna on top, and the oysters were rich and well-prepared. I also tried some of the popcorn chicken and truffle fries my coworkers ordered--both were delicious and hard to stop picking at. It's a great spot to hang out, catch up, and unwind. Happy hour is from 2-6 mon-fri and has half off wine, cocktails, martinis and $10 on a few different appetizers. Great pricing for the quality of drinks you're getting and they have something for everyone. Food was also on point and great for sharing. Tried the popcorn chicken and spicy tuna crispy rice - both things go great with the beverages. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. Only gripe is they add a rather large "Beverage Surcharge" of ~13.5% (came out to $19.5 for a $144.5 pre-tax bill that included a few food items) which was a bit shocking. Came here for lunch. I love the speakeasy vibe and all the available photo ops upon entering. I was sat right away and the service was very attentive from the start. I ordered the Crispy Deviled Eggs and those were delicious, they are topped with bacon jam which adds to the delicious taste. I got two drinks from the bar the first was a Bootlegger's Blossom and the second was a Lemon Drop Martini and they were both delicious. For my meal I had the Volstead Cheeseburger, which they said it was the best burger in Southlake, and that was not a lie. The name of this place has intrigued me for some time. You see I am a bit of a history buff and the Volstead Act outlawed alcohol sales in 1919. Clubs still existed though, in the form of speakeasy's. Volstead is fashioned after a speakeasy from the era, and you feel it walking in. The place has an old time feel to it. My service was great. Friendly, cheerful, and a Ray of sunshine in the mysterious and dim lights, reminiscent of a speakeasy. I ordered a Cheeseburger and it came with Skinny Fries. Volstead has been open a while in Southlake. They are the same outfit that owns Jane, also in Southlake, The Tavern, and Tycoon. Both the Tavern and Tycoon are in Flower Mound, and I have not visited, but I have made stops at both Jane and now Volstead. And I have to say, I wanted to be impressed, and I just wasn't. When I went to Jane, the cocktails were not up to snuff. My visit to Volstead, the cocktail was fantastic but the ambiance and food disappointed. I came into Volstead to check out the happy hour. They have a discount on wine, and half off their signature cocktails and martinis. They make craft cocktails, which were impressive, but only have one bartender. It takes time, but they could use another. I ordered a Volstead Vesper. It is a bold martini. Josh made it well. It was well balanced. Boozy yet balanced. And I love a lemon curl. A garnish can really elevate a cocktail. Five stars for the drink. I will come back and order another one. I also ordered their spicy tuna crispy rice. It was rather a disappointment. The serving size was generous, the crunch on the rice was there, and then it fell short. The texture of the rice was on the mushier side. The tuna was NOT spicy. It had been dressed in something, but it brought absolutely NO flavor or anything to the tuna. There was a wasabi cream and a sauce (maybe eel sauce) that dressed the plate, but the tuna was bland. A little soy, citrus, yuzu, sriracha or SOMETHING to elevate and brighten the tuna would have been EVERYTHING. So it just ended up being bland tuna, on undressed avocado, on fried mushy rice with some tasty sauces. It absolutely was not spicy. And with a little something something it could have been rather tasty. Even with mushy rice. When I walked in and sat down, there was no music playing so you were just hearing conversations bouncing off the walls. After about a half hour someone decided they needed some tunes, but then it was too loud and it was hard to hear the bar tenders. I loved the decor, and again, my cocktail was really rather good. The overall feel just felt kind of sloppy. It could have been awesome, and fell short. They claim to have Southlakes best burger, and maybe that is a better choice than the tuna. I may give it a shot. It got rather popular as I was leaving, the crowd a bit more mature. And maybe that is their bag. They have great reviews and high stars, I just didn't feel it. read more

We live really close by and had been to the restaurant that was previously there so thought we would give it a try. Parking is easy and they did a really excellent and cool job changing the decor from fish shack style to a modern vibe. I absolutely love the blowing bubble gum wall paper. What I really love about this place is there is an option for everyone and the serving sizes are huge! My husband and I shared the fish and chips because we knew we were getting appetizers and a dessert. The serving size of the split order could almost be a full serving at other restaurants. The quality is great as well and everything we had was very good. Our server, the bartenders and the manager were very friendly and checked in JUST the right amount. Never feeling ignored but also not feeling like we had to stop our conversation multiple times to handle a check in. Had first visited Volstead a few weeks ago with a friend for their weekend brunch and found it to be a unique gem from the decor and ambiance to the warm welcome, excellent service, extensive drink menu and delicious food. Returned today for an early dinner with my husband. We started with the spinach artichoke dip with homemade chips and wine. Dinner was a huge chicken pesto sandwich with fries for him, while I had the teriyaki grilled salmon with mashed potatoes. The only thing I haven't liked is their broccolini, which tends to be a bit tough. Otherwise, everything was delicious. Addie provided excellent service, and we also had the pleasure of meeting GM Cory. Volstead has a great vibe, and the energy was ramping up even more around the beautiful bar area as the Saturday evening crowd was building. They explained how the location used to be Fish City and the owner decided to turn it into a speak easy. The drinks were good and the deviled eggs were a great choice. I was looking forward to trying this restaurant as I'd heard it's the sister restaurant of Tycoon in Flower Mound which we love. But our experience here was average. Started out with some cocktails which were great so that was positive. The restaurant overall is super small so even though we were only a party of 2 we were squished between parties on both sides of us and barely had room to keep my coat next to me. For apps we had oysters which were nice and fresh. We also had the fried rock shrimp which was tasty but they went overboard on the cilantro. For dinner I had the blackened redfish and the flavors were there but was dry and overcooked. My husband ordered a medium rare filet which came out medium well so they had to cook a new one so my food just sat in front of me getting cold while waiting for his new plate. So that was a huge bummer. They did give us a free glass of Prosecco to make up for it which I appreciate. We also got a side of the truffle fries which were good and gave us something to snack on while waiting for the steak to be refired. Volstead is probably the best customer service experience I've had in a Bar setting since I came to the DFW area. It is a true to concept prohibition bar - dark, cozy, WELCOMING, yet quiet enough for m, a solo session or intimate conversation but also enough energy for a festive happy hour or cocktail meetup. So far I have only been there for happy hour - which is great (2-6p M-F) in comparison to nearby alternatives. I love places that have a set happy hour menu you can count on! Above all the 4 stars are for service. This is a place where the bartenders make eye contact, introduce themselves, ask you your name, and are attentive and actually make real conversation! Love this place! However, stopped by around 5:30 today to grab a beverage during happy hour and the door was locked, parking lot full and didn't see a notice posted as to why. One think that if the facility was full of people for any reason it would be a fire hazard to have the door locked. No sign was posted that I saw regarding the lockout.
