went here for the first time last night & was very unimpressed to say the least. bartender's were frustrated when i asked for my mexican candy to be remade because there were about 3oz of sour put into it (don't know when MC's started calling for sour mix at all but whatever). then i asked for my check before running my card to make sure the MC i sent back wasn't on there (it was) and immediately after he hands me my check he runs my card, i always use a credit card when going out for these types of reasons, but being a fellow high volume bartender just cross your T's and dot your I's because you're not always serving drunk, ignorant to the service industry college kids. still provide some kind of customer service. it's really not that hard... read more

Called ahead to ask about a specific basketball game, and if they would be playing it on tuesday. The bartender that answered assured me that they would be. After arriving at the bar, they turned the game off in front of our faces in the middle of the second quarter. I asked the bartenders to turn it back on and explained that we had called before, and no one seemed to give a single fuck. They turned on a soccer game instead, and had five of their sevens playing the same game while I had called ahead and specifically requested to have this one game played that other people were also watching. completely fucking disrespectful to the patrons trying to enjoy a separate game from the one already being played on the majority of the TV's in the establishment. read more

I'm terribly jealous of UNT/Denton's nightlife. UTA/Arlington's is virtually nonexistent. I mean, I guess that's what Dallas is for, but I digress. A good, decent bar to meet up with your friends. I mean, the bathrooms are gross, the floor is made of concrete, and there's enough smoke in the air to make you think that you're in a third-world country, but you don't go here to keep your shoes clean. Bar tenders are quick, friendly, and, if you catch them in a good mood, give you discounts. A variety of beer on tap. They have a list of bottled beers from around the world to help guide your venture. There's tons of the liberal artsy UNT crowd milling about, probably swapping vegan recipes. It's definitely a nice change of pace from Arlington. Reportedly the guys here are shyer and won't approach you (and I can attest to this), but if you walk up to anybody, they will gladly (and cheerfully!) engage you in conversation. Basically the social interactions you get involved in are voluntary. Perhaps I just went on a night where everybody in Denton was in a good mood. Or perhaps everyone there is friendly. I went to lucky Lou's looking for an old fashioned got my drink and everything was great gave the bartender my card Brunet without glasses. And it was great, however I was asked multiple times but the glasses and red head that if I needed help and I told them yes I want to close out my tab and the brunet without the glasses helped me so I was waiting on her. (Assuming she had to close me out.) I stood and waited 15 min while she helped others around me, she looked at me asked me what I wanted i informed her multiple times I wanted to close my tab And I was continually ignored after telling her so I waited and the red head grabbed her and told her I am waiting on her she looked at me and walked over while not busy and asked what I needed again, I told her I wanted to close my tab and she walked away and didn't help me. I had to wait another 5 min only for her to walk over and rudely brush me off and say "Anyone can close your tab." Like I should know how the business ran. I got fed up and went to the the brunet with the glasses and closed my tab after waiting, and not wanting to deal with the other girl. When I asked about who the tip was going to, I was told it was shared and I told the girl with the glasses I wasn't going to leave a tip on my card. She then cut me off and wouldn't let me speak as I was trying to tell her about the horrible customer service and give her a cash tip for the help. But I was rudely talked over and cut off and told she doesn't care what I have to say. I have never had such a bad experience at any bar and I understand being busy and missing things but when people are picked after me and get severed 3 times and with open spots in like only to be avoided and ignored. It's sad, not for my sake but for the owner this is the staff you have serving customers and scaring off business and these are the type of people that will run the business into the ground. read more

We had a group of 7-8 people for a night on Fry Street, and Lucky Lou's was our second stop. It started off really well with good drinks and jumbo Jenga! When we finally finished our game and cheered over it, one of our friends showed up. We met her at the door and hugged her. However, the chick at the door checking IDs, told us that the manager was watching us and if we didn't chill out, they would kick us out. We weren't being very loud and we weren't disrupting anybody, even though it's a bar. Other than the rude accusation, it was a pretty fun experience. read more

Lucky Lou's is always the second bar I visit when I go out to Fry St on the weekends. They have a huge inexpensive shot selection, my personal favorite is the caprisun shot. It actually taste just like caprisun, but for adults. I frequent on the weekends so wait is rather long and staff isn't the most friendly or attentive, but given how chaotic the bar is I truly don't blame them. I really wish they would do something about expanding their restrooms. There never fails to be a long line for the women's restroom. read more

This is probably the best bar on fry. You won't only find your college drinkers here but also locals. My favorite dive bar with the least pretentious people. They have great deals like 2 dollar doubles. You can grab a table inside or outside and subject yourself to bar games like giant connect four, corn hole, and pool. Most of the bartenders and staff are great. If you come here at night any day from Thursday - Saturday expect a wait at the bar. I've had one weird experience here. My friend called me to meet her at Lucky Lou's. I had just gone through the Taco Bell drive thru but decided to go in bring me food in (which is allowed.) I hadn't had one drink and I had been eating at a table for 10 minutes and someone working there came up to me and told me I can't have anymore drinks. It's was very odd. I wasn't even acting drunk I was literally sitting at a table eating Taco Bell talking with my friend. Anyway a couple of my friends kept buying me shots after that and they didn't kick me out so there's that. So just beware of some snarky workers. Definitely start your night here and end your night here if you're doing a fry crawl! This bar will always have a crowd. read more

Pretty neat place. Probably has the oldest crowd of the bars on Fry. Just like every other bar on Fry, it's definitely a beer bar(I don't know if anyone has ever ordered a legitimate cocktail on Fry haha). Several bar games inside and out and huge covered patio that's heated in the winter. Also, they do not serve food, but sometimes have free chips and salsa. Prices are alright, best deal is $2 double wells (except whiskey) from 9-11pm every night! Also Pint Nights every Tuesday, buy the pint for $3.50 and keep the glass. Honestly my biggest complaint is that the bartenders can be kinda rude sometimes. read more

Cheap drinks in a run down bar that has a balcony. What isn't to love? As we drove by this bar to visit the house my friend's lived in I told my driving companions that Lucky Lou's looked like my kind of bar. Suffice to say after having a beer there, it sure is. Lucky Lou's is dark and full of wood. Its as simple as that. It is smoky. Coming from a city that hasn't allowed smoking in bars for almost two years then walking into an establishment and being met with cigarette smoke is tough. Thankfully there was a patio and my friend's and I sat out there, under a cloudy gray sky, and got our drink on. To get my drink, I had to first fill out a receipt. I guess some Washington licenses had caused problems in the past which resulted in this practice. My name was needed as well as my address. Peculiar. Soon it was forgotten after I received my $2 beer. In the ladies' bathroom there is a chalkboard with chalk provided so anyone who feels so inclined can leave a little something behind. I wrote "Carl, the armadillo, does your mom" Carl is my armadillo purse which was a mighty hit in Texas. Go figure. The bottom line is Lucky Lou's is a great bar with cheap drinks. Lucky Lou's was one of my favorite bars during my 7 years I lived in Denton. Yesterday my boyfriend and I were driving through Denton on our way to Lake Texoma. He suggested we stop and have a drink and I was stokes to show him my ole stomping grounds! Of course Lou's was our first stop! Unlike many of the other fry street bars, Lou's has always stayed the exact same! We got two texas beers (I got shiner cheer he got some ipa from Austin) on tap. This is the only bar in Denton that always busy apparently. The only reason I would come here again is if others chose this bar. People come here for the incredibly cheap drink specials for incredibly broke college students. To be honest, it's one of the worst bars I've been to. There were at least three bartenders working, and none of them were in any rush to get to customers. I understand that college students generally don't tip well, but if it's your job, then you should make up for it in volume at least... It took be about 20 minutes to get to the "front" and order my second round of drinks and another 30 minutes to finally close out my tab later. I have an incredible amount of understanding when it comes to people who work in the industry, since I am one myself, but that is ridiculous. I left disappointed, and very irritated. I love Lou's! It's easily the busiest, bustliest bar on Fry St. but that's why I love it. You will always see someone you know there! Grab a drink and wander the expansive patio giving out hugs to high school acquaintances or waving to current classmates or coworkers - this is the place to be. Drink specials are great; my tab never fails to surprise me at how low it is. The staff is friendly but efficient. Even with a large crowd surrounding the bar, you'll get you're drink within 4 minutes. Yes, I timed it (out of curiosity). The atmosphere is totally chill and laid back. No need to worry about bro-dawgs or drama queens - they're all packed in the Garage down the street. Plenty of seating inside is a plus, too. See you next weekend! read more

I always make it a point to check in on a visit, you can get free sunglasses or t shirts after getting points. Andy, Cody and Layne are great! And everyone working door is always sweet, too. To be honest, I hate Lou's. It takes forever to get a drink, the crowd is 90% douchebags and/or slut-looking idiot girls, it's too crowded, and there's always some stupid shit going on (i.e. fights, dramatic break-ups, etc.) But, alas, I've spent many more hours inside that little fence than I really want to admit because that is where my friends went. Only reason. Though, I will give Lou's credit for their numerous televisions and projector which always featured the important sport games. And it's actually quite nice in the afternoons to go up there after class with a couple of friends and have a cold beer out on the patio. I used to bring in pizza from The Tomato or noodles from Mr Chopsticks, but those days are long gone (thanks again, city council). Not the best bar in Denton, by any means. When my friends say they're going to "the bar" they're talking about Lou's. This is my favorite bar in Denton, which isn't saying much. Most people come to this dirty, smoke-filled place for their $2 drink specials, such as Long Island Iced Teas, on Thursday night. You'll usually see people show up around 1 a.m. just to see if there are any parties going on after the bar closes. (It's a small town.) Lou's was more intimite and comfortable before they opened the outside area in front two years ago. It used to attract mostly artsy people, but for some reason the reconstruction attracted a lot of sorority/fraternity types and things haven't been the same since. read more

Now it's more of a mix. The drinks are indeed cheap. They usually have $2 specials on various nights...margaritas, long island iced teas, and rum and coke. And shots are $3. $1 PBR. Can't really beat that. And they play decent music most of the time. However, it has gotten EXTREMELY crowded, especially after 11pm. If you want a drink, you might have to wait 20 minutes to get it, because there's 15 people in front of you. I've grown a bit weary of the place, but I still like it. read more

The beer selection here is what brings people back, its an awesome selection and as far as college town bars go this place is usually packed with people and can be difficult to get a drink, more or less try to hear your conversation. But that being said its a fun place to hangout during the week if you've finished a major project/assignment/exam. Another perk for me is that this place is a smidge cleaner and more open than all the places down on Fry st. Although the bathrooms can always use more work that's just something that college bars are going to have. Also the staff here is really patient and very laid-back which is good when dealing with loud drunkards on a nightly basis. They have PINT NIGHT, every Tuesday, where you pay $3 for a pint and receive a FREE pint glass to keep. Some Tuesday nights (like last Tuesday, 10/20/2015) a company named Pan-Ector comes outlets you get to design and customize a FREE customized T-shirt. Also everyday from 4pm to 9pm they have FREE chips and homemade salsa. The staff is very friendly and can get the lines moving very efficiently. There are plenty of tables, a pool table, darts, and a couple arcade games along with eight TVs. As a veteran, student, and residence of Denton for the past 3 years I can honestly say that Lucky Lou's is one of my favorite bars of Denton Texas! read more

Easily my go-to bar when I'm hitting up Fry Street. Lou's is filled with all walks of life in this college town, and that's what makes them awesome. Plenty of room inside and out, even on the crowded first Thursday of the new semester. Drinks are continuously cheap, and the bartenders are continuously cool. Granted they're cooler if you're an attractive female, but I do pretty well for myself, I guess... I usually get my drinks on the outside corner bar when I make an appearance. They always have my back when I'm trying to forget everything I had learned that week, and poor me up a Grape Soda, or my favorite frequent mistake, a mind eraser! And for the nights I want to respect my body and not feel terrible in the morning, Lou's has a nice variety of drinks on tap. From a delicious cider, to a usual import, or an awesome IPA. Lou's oughta be everyone's first stop when doing their bar crawl on a birthday, or hell even a regular day. It's the epitome of an awesome college bar. Check it out. read more

The bar staff is always friendly and quick to help, even on packed Friday and Saturday nights. The crowd always seems to be a good one, never seen a fight or anyone completely sloshed. Located close the University of North Texas campus, this college hangout has one of the best people watching patios around. Stake your claim on one of their outdoor patio tables and drink the night away watching drunk college kids wobble past. If you're lucky you'll see drunk girls in high heels fall trying to cross the street, I did it once myself...so embarrassing! Their patio is def their claim to fame. Inside is kinda crowded...so I suggest staying outside. That way you can see all the hot guys & girls walk in and keep an eye on them. ;) The women's bathroom line gets crazy....so prepare yourself to wait. Ok, I don't like this being listed as a "dive bar". The building is a little older and a little weathered, but I love this place. . The atmosphere is spectacular. It's hard to be in a bad mood at Lou's. The bartenders are amazingly sweet and GREAT at what they do. Plus- jumbo jenga? AWESOME. One of the greatest things I have ever seen: in the bathrooms at Lou's they have the walls painted as chalk boards. Removable graffiti! Fucking EPIC. A common complaint is the wait for service on a busy night. No worries, they know you're there. Just be the polite kind of aggressive, smile and tip well. . . You'll be golden. Unlike the other side of the block at Public House everyone is welcome at Lou's. This may be a sign that I need to be in a program, but this bar can easily become a second home for anyone. read more

Lou's is the quintessential college bar, stocked with a superb selection of beer and plenty of drunk college kids. You'll often hear people saying "This used to be a staple in my drinking diet..." or things of that nature, and there's a reason for that. There comes a point in every collegiate's life that they outgrow Lou's. Don't get me wrong, I still venture here when the dart league season starts up again, but I feel out of place for practically every other occasion. Lou's has a great outdoor patio that really is the main attraction; especially on heavy flow nights. Fridays and Saturdays are difficult times to get seats inside, but there's no point when there's plenty of standing room out on the patio. Sure, standing for the 3 or so hours you plan on drinking isn't the most fun, but I doubt the people of Lou's really care. The beer selection makes up for the leg cramping and there are some pretty good beer specials throughout the week. If games are up your alley, Lou's definitely has a few. From pool to darts to corn hole, this place has you covered. Again, on busy nights you'll be hard pressed to find one of these spots open, but there's no harm in waiting if you're so inclined to play. Overall Lou's is a great college place, but there's not much draw for people looking for a less crowded, less undergrad atmosphere. Try venturing out of Fry Street for a different kind of atmosphere. read more

This used to be "my bar" before I grew up... Always packed, always good drink specials, and if you aren't a dick or a Hipster, the bartenders will know your name and treat you very well. Fast service, and an awesome couple of managers. It's smokey and loud, but hey, it's an effing college bar, so lighten up. I recommend always drinking Beam, as they have it on draft. Hands down, the largest selection of beer in Denton, for a bar. The only negative thing I have to say is that sometimes I end up puking when I go back for that "old times sake" visit... read more

Lou's was my favorite bar while I was an undergrad at UNT. Coming back to Denton as an alumni, it's one of the first places I go. Whenever I meet up with friends, it's almost always at Lou's. This place was a great part of the memories I had at UNT. Every college town should have "the bar" and Lou's is definitely it for Denton. They have great specials during the week (Pint Night on Tues, $5 pitchers on Wed). Since I'm mostly a beer person, my tabs were usually pretty low. The bartenders are cool and every efficient. It got to the point where if I left my tab open and I ordered another drink, they knew my last name. Not sure if that makes me an alcoholic, or just a regular! Even when it gets busy -- and it does -- the bartenders are really good, often taking multiple orders at once without screwing them up. There's also an outside bar that, while limited in drink selection, can get the job done if you're really not interested in waiting in long lines inside. The only not-so-great parts (I won't go so far to call them bad): Like I said, it does get crowded, so sometimes trying to find a seat can be a little difficult, but the outdoor patio is so big that it hardly matters. The lines to the bathroom can be pretty long sometimes as well. As a guy, I can't vouch for the girls bathroom, but the guys is fine. You're usually so drunk anyway it doesn't matter. read more
