As someone who attended TXST and is used to the huge, messy, crazy party/nightlife in San Marcos and Austin, I know how it works. After graduating, I moved back to Dallas and reconnected with some high school friends who all attended UNT and from them, I had always heard them rave about Fry Street but never experienced it until Halloween and it was pretty chill. We started off the night at Cool Beans Bar & Grill. Within this particular bar, I loved that the staff and everyone were dressed up in costumes for Halloween, which added to the festive atmosphere. The bar offers both indoor and outdoor seating, giving it a relaxed and versatile vibe. My friends ordered food and drinks, which were really affordable. The food itself seemed like no-frills, classic bar bites-exactly what you need for a fun college night out. Especially to start the night off or something to get to sober up. The drinks were solid, and we enjoyed hanging out before making our way down the strip. Fry Street is definitely different from what I'm used to, but I think it's such a cool, close-knit spot. Even though it's small from what I'm used to, Fry Street and its bars, including Cool Beans, will help you get to where you want to be for a fun night out. This bar definitely suits well within the Denton culture and it's a pretty decent bar, perfect for college students. read more

We came here for a friends 21st birthday. This was my boyfriends haunt when he went to UNT, so he knew what to get. Those pitchers are amazing. I love cool beans it's my first time and they told me the Chicago bean was named after them really cool fact. Sole oren was great she a story teller for real. My daughter has been coming here for a while and loves the margaritas. So while visiting we ordered a half gallon to go. Drinking them we smelled nothing, tasted nothing, and felt nothing. They forgot to add the tequila. They were prepping quite a few when we picked up maybe they forgot to add it to ours. The contents were far from the top. I understand human error but the manager insisted they had added. Maybe she just thought we were bring sneaky and trying to get free drinks? I could have finished the whole thing and gone for a run. I had left a delta-8 pen at the booth by accident (i never smoked inside the bar though), and the bartender, Hannah, let me know as i closed my tab that the bar doesn't allow the devices and had been confiscated. After researching and finding a lack of info on it being banned, I called the manager. He hadn't been informed, and let me know that the bar doesn't confiscate any vape pens. My pen wasn't even behind the bar or anything. I'm led to believe I was literally lied to for no reason and Hannah technically stole it lol. This happened Thursday night and as of today (saturday night) i haven't been contacted about it. She then proceeded to offer my best friend a birthday shot/ which she actually retracted due to some on the spot made up rule (No birthday shots before 7pm) wow.lol Then when we ordered bloody Mary's, and they said no bloody Mary mix available...this is a bar mind you. Really liked this place and the bartender when i first arrived here, even got the bartenders instagram after chatting with him for a few. But after a couple of hours i was very rudely told by a bartender that came in after him that i had been there for "hours" and basically insinuating that i should leave. Why? Went back again due to my friends wanting to come here. I figured it maybe would be better this time around, but it wasnt. I ordered a patty melt with jalapenos on the side, with a half order of bacon cheese fries. It took about 50 minutes for my order to come out. Im not expecting fast food speeds on delivery, but the place wasnt crowded or super busy. Once my food came out, I noticed the jalapenos were in the patty melt than on the side. This isnt a major issue, but its the little things that add up with frustration. Taste wise, I say they do have good beef. The cheddar cheese was standard, as well as the texas toast bread. The toast had a good texture that held up without getting soggy. I think they could use a little more butter, but thats my opinion. The cheese fries were as satisfying as last time. I like that I could get a half order. They also have good ranch dressing with the fries. Overall, this place is a solid three stars: nothing I would recommend, but somewhere I will still eat with friends every now and then. read more

Cool Beans is the place to go especially if you're a college student wanting cheap but fulfilling drinks! You can get an entire pitcher for $7 which pours about 4 full glasses, sometimes even a little more. Great for sharing with a group of friends! Flavors are delicious and include cherry limeade, adios mother fu****, long Island ice tea, ocean water, and more. I'm a happy person during their happy hour because the food is cheap and good! Cool Beans has a vibe that's not for everyone. Kinda dingy tbh but a cool place nonetheless. They have really good food and an awesome bar menu. I recommend trying out the liquid cocaine shot! I used to go to this bar almost every night when I went to college. Recently went back for the first time in years. The blonde bartender was so rude to my friends and I that we just left. There are soooo many other bars in Denton that you can't afford to let people like that represent your business. I hope the owner takes these reviews seriously and makes some changes quickly. The drinks are great and atmosphere is pretty chill, but one of the bartenders gave me a attitude after closing my tab and not seeing a tip on the receipt, she gave me a look of disgust and proceeded to say (Next time you should leave a tip). I was gonna leave a cash tip but that whole experience ruined my mood and quite frankly put me off from going to this place ever again. The $5 burger combo here is killer deal. I honestly didn't have very high expectations. But the burger was amazing. Just amazing. I have had $10 burgers that weren't as good as this burger. I live right off of Fry Street and frequently walk there for food and entertainment, on top of also having to go through for school all the time, and I've been to each bar and venue here multiple times. That being said, anytime any of my friends suggest Cool Beans to drink or hang out I will find literally ANY reason to get out of having to go or try to change their minds. I've had an explicitly bad experience at this bar Every. Single. Time. I've gone out to it. It's actually become a running joke among my friends because anytime I (rarely) go now, we all just wait to see how long before one of the employees there harasses me or tries to give me a hard time. Each time I find myself in this establishment I avoid speaking to any bartenders, I do not order any drinks or food, and I try my best to sit and just calmly talk to my friends counting the seconds till we hop to the next place. Let me LIST my experiences. 1.) The first time I ever went to Cool Beans, it was our first stop of the night and I was waiting with friends in line at the bar all just talking and laughing. Before it was my turn to order a worker comes up to me and asks me if I was drunk and if I was okay, I thanked him and said "oh yeah I'm okay haha! I haven't had anything tonight yet but thank you!" And he said "oh, cool just checking in on ya" I said "no problem bro," and it was fine. Once I got up to the bar the bartender asked my friend with me "umm are you two okay?" She said "??? Yes?" He said "okay. I thought you look fine but I saw him ask you so I have to make sure." She said "thank you haha, we are good. So can we have two tequi-" and before she could finish he says "-because we don't like, serve, like, if you're visibly drunk or anything," she said "well. We are not." And he nodded his head in agreement and it was fine. Later we sat and the five of us were having a drink and catching up, singing to the music playing and joking around when I went to the bar for a second drink. The guy in front of me, WHO I DO NOT KNOW, got into an argument with the staff and I even took a step back to not be so close and the bartender asked him to leave. When he angrily stormed out I went up next and before I could order a drink he said "I SAID LEAVE." I said "what? I don't know that guy-" and he literally had two other bartenders come to me and threaten to call authorities on me if I didn't leave. So I left and had to call my friends to inform them that I was kicked out. 2.) Second time EVER at cool beans was MONTHS later because I avoided going back after what happened the first time. This time the girl working at the front door told me I was "way too drunk" to be allowed in and she was gonna have to say no. I had zero drinks before this. Was not talking, was not joking or laughing was with ONE friend and we were just quietly waiting our turn to enter. She even made small talk with the people ahead of us and then let my friend in before me, but me, standing perfectly normal and not doing anything was told I was too drunk to come in?? So I LITERALLY told her "Thank you for looking out for me. I know you're just doing your job." And I left. No argument, no other comments. 3.) Third and final time EVER coming to Cool Beans. I came in with a friend and we were meeting a group. When walking by we could have SWORN we saw them on the patio so we went around to the front door, showed our IDs and went to the bathroom first before going out to the patio to find our friends. We walked around the whole patio about two times but didn't find them so we were concluding we must have just seen someone else and thought it was them when a bartender WALKS OVER TO US and says "hey guys, I'm gonna have to ask you to come in the front door." And my friend said "we did come in the front door? We are looking for our friend." And he said "preeeeeeetty sure I just saw you both come in through the gate (The patio entrance)." So I said "we came in the front with the girl at the door we just came out here because we thought we saw our friend when walking by." He said "right. Well I just SAW you come in the gate." My friend got annoyed and said "no you didn't." And the bartender said "okay, then can I just see both of your IDs again?" So, rolling my eyes, I pull my ID out to show him. After taking extra long to look he says "okay. Cool." And walks away. No "oh sorry bruh" no nothing. Anytime I've gone to this bar since then I've been too afraid to walk, get out of my seat, order a drink, talk too loud or laugh too loud, dance to the music or anything. Very unpleasant environment. It's like all the patrons are having fun while being glared at angrily by the bartenders and employees. All of my friends have had similar experiences at least once when visiting so we go less and less often. Nothing against the bar or venue itself just not appreciative of the borderline targeted aggression I receive from the employees every time I visit. read more

Absolutely love Cool Beans! We heard about this place when we first moved to Denton and were invited by some friends. One of them suggested we try the Cherry Limeade pitcher. BEST DRINK EVER it taste just like Sonic's! We tried some of their food as well. Burgers are pretty good and the waffle fries are to die for. One word: brunch! On the weekend they have a stellar brunch menu. My personal fave being the french toast. Not only is the food good but you can get everything in a pitcher. That means pitchers of mimosas or bloody Mary's for a great price! Any other time the food is great as well. Some even say they have the best burger on fry but that's still up for debate. You can get pitchers of margaritas, cocktails, fishbowls or even a simple vodka and lemonade. I've seen people have some cool looking cocktail pitchers with hot pink, bright blue, or whatever funky color your heart desires. Cool Beans does have a trivia night. I believe it's Tuesday or Wednesday but don't quote me. I've never actually been but have watched from another bar and people have so much fun! There's a karaoke night as well and I have no clue what day that's on. This is easily the least pretentious bar on Fry. When I bring any non locals to my old stomping ground I bring them here. There's a cool deck/patio with picnic tables and umbrellas. Half the umbrellas are broken though so if you go during a hot summer day there's a lot of trial and error going on to find the right table. Several cool things about this place. One, it's dog friendly inside and outside. Two, it's the oldest bar on Fry being the only one with the original building. Back in 2007 fry street was burned down to a crisp by vandals. They main target was The Tomato but almost everything burned by the time firefighters got there. Tragedy but makes for an awesome story and great history lesson that I learned from one of the bartenders herself. Cool Beans is a great place to buy a 6$ pitcher if you're trying to have a nice start to your night at Fry. The pitcher serves about 4 people and has a minimum two per a pitcher so bring a friend. Their food is also pretty good! I recommend this bar to start your day drinking off! read more
