I have known about this place for years but never had an opportunity to try them. Today was different... My wife's favorite ice cream store is next door to this place and she asked me to pick up a couple of shakes for her and her friend, so I grabbed a burger while I waited for their shakes. Choosing one thing was tough. On their menu we're Pizzas, Burgers, Sandwiches, Nachos, Loaded Fries, Salads, and more. But I figured, that old adage of "When in Rome", so I ordered the Loophole Burger. It was a "Wowza"!! The Fries were really good too. I am not even a Fries guy, but I ate them all! Ezekiel, the server, was fantastic. He even gave me suggestion for my next visit, which I am going to try. The ambiance here is really neat. It is in an old brick building and is kind of split level inside. Think antique brick & really old hard wood stairs and you will begin to understand the historic presence of this place. So disappointed! The food here used to be top notch! My husband and I went today. I got the Loophole burger and chili cheese fries. The fries are what you would expect from bar food. The burger was inedible. It was overcooked and so was the bun. Hubby got the triple stacked BLT. The only thing triple stacked about it is the bread! It was at least edible. The service was attentive but a bit lacking urgency. We will not be adding this to our rotation. read more

As much as I love the Loophole, they're severely understaffed, to the point where if you want to eat their delicious food it's impossible to order. They'll require a seperate tab for the bar and just sitting at a table which is weird. They're not ADA compliant, stairs and steps everywhere just to reach seating or karaoke. Don't get me wrong, they only don't have a one star because of their food (when you're even able to order) and karaoke. They also require a paper resume if you want a job there, they're pretty old school with it. The staff is friendly, food and drinks, great. Just not ADA compliant and understaffed. To describe the loophole in a single word- fun. This pub is eclectic and cool in definitely downtown Denton vibes. The drinks are made properly, there's strong, and satisfying. Staff members all work very well together, I found them to be engaging and entertaining which made my experience even better. The brisket nachos get two thumbs up, it's a perfect bar food, Scott does the midday cooking and he came out to ensure we were satisfied as well. Overall I had a great time at the Loophole, met some new people in the relaxed environment and it was great. We specifically returned here because on our first visit we saw the Italian Cheesesticks someone had ordered (which were triangular and MASSIVE) but on this visit the ones we received were just standard frozen style cheesesticks. The waitress did say they'd been out of stock for a few days so maybe they were substituting temporarily? That being said, our table ordered a plain burger, the goat cheese burger, turkey pasta press, and French dip press. Overall everything was yummy but the French dip definitely lacked something. The waitress was very friendly and attentive despite the bar getting pretty busy shortly after we arrived. With regulars seated at the bar, the bartender was able socialize with them without making me wait for service. Deciding between the Loophole Burger or the Chipotle Turkey Press, I chose the former due to it being the daily special. I took advantage of the knife which was served with burger. Cutting the burger in half made it proportionally less messy and more enjoyable to eat. I love a casual pub in an old historic building that has cool architecture and lighting and a very homey "stay awhile" feeling. I wish we'd had lunch here during our recent Denton day trip, but we arrived too early in the day and just weren't ready yet to eat. Too many other stops to make! But the menu here looked thoughtful and delicious as far as classic bar food goes. You'll find pizza, burgers, fries, nachos, wings, fried cheese sticks, sandwiches, and salads -- and everything is made with locally sourced ingredients where possible, including their daily fresh squeezed juices and house made syrups! Jon ordered an old fashioned and I had the latest trending cider of the moment, a grapefruit apple concoction that was a little too sweet for me but overall crisp and enjoyable. Jon said his cocktail was just right. Our bartender made it quickly while she seemed to keep this entire pub running. It was relatively busy for 1PM on a Wednesday and she was the only staff member we saw for 45 minutes. She had everything under control and was so sweet as well. Speaking of Wednesdays, Wednesday is half priced burger day at The Loophole and I'm still thinking about that ones I saw on their menu that caught my eye: the "Poblano Raspberry Burger" with roasted poblano peppers, smoked bacon, smoked cheddar, lettuce, raspberry jam, and chipotle mayo on a pretzel bun; and the "Bacon Jam Goat Cheese Burger" with house made bacon jam, goat cheese, Swiss cheese, lettuce, stout grilled onions, tomato, cracked black pepper, and mayonnaise. Just kinda meh. We got the French dip, and honestly wasn't great. Meat was tough and really had no flavor. **Update** We are now deeper into the pandemic and me and my boyfriend have finally been able to go inside to order and eat this past Saturday, and wow.. We both absolutely love the environment, it's got a warm feeling, seating is so nice because it tucks you away into your own space and lets you visit with ease and enjoy your grub. We ordered the brisket nachos.. AWESOME! They were made with homemade potato chips and dusted with some sort of seasoning (delicious seasoning may I add that had a good spicy flavor to it) topped generously with brisket, tomatoes, queso, lettuce, chives and drizzled with sweet bbq sauce.. the crunch from the homemade chips were perfection and didn't seem to get soggy even when we got near the end, we even got full on these and Coke. Honestly they exceeded my expectations from my initial visit. Our server (wish I had gotten her name) was very attentive and sweet.. loved her bright blue hair, btw really suits her well. I love this place--all around good food and drinks. I went here with family recently and the staff was accommodating. I don't expect a bar to have a kids menu, but it's nice to see they cared enough to make a smaller pizza for our kid. I highly recommend the burgers. Recurring Loophole visitor for a while. Went back recently and their entire menu had changed. Prices went up across the board, and the menu has shrank down to fewer choices. I guess they had some sort of mini revamp? Nothing notably different about the atmosphere or service, just higher prices and less choices across the board. Miss the old stuff. read more

Worst service i've ever had at a restaurant in my life! My girlfriend and I were there for almost 2 hours and one of those hours was just waiting for my girlfriend's burger because our server forgot to ring it in! I also got the wrong burger and the burger i got didnt even have any garnish or nothing, just 2 buns and a fry and burnt patty! When i complained to the manager i got a measly $4 taken off of my bill. Both the manager and our server didn't even seem like they cared about our terrible night at the restaurant and took our server 30 minutes to pay us out and that's only because i had to go up to her 3 different times just to pay out. she was either waiting at the bar for drink that werent there or talking to other customers right in front of our table. The monte cristo was deep fried and a total caloric splurge like expected, but was surprisingly not greasy and not overfilled with cheese and meat. Great ratios, one of the better cristo's I've ever had. The house salad came with smoked cheese which really set it apart. The jalapeno ranch was delicious and next time I want to try their house made vinaigrette. My husband said the burger was one of the best he's had, and loved the cracked pepper aioli. This used to be a cool place with decent food and reasonable prices. Had not been there in several years but met up with friends last week. While the waitress was ok and made no mistakes and drinks and food came fairly fast, it is the price and quality of my order that irritated me. Had the chicken fried chicken for a little over $13 and it was bad. The chicken breast was of substandard quality, full of tendons. I was unable to eat it, one could not chew that thing. I like the Loophole for food (poutine), but not as a bar to hang out. It's not that their drinks are bad (the cojito is great), just not my thing. They do have darts and pool if you like that. But anyway, that's mainly why it's a four, not five. That being said, I crave their poutine sometimes ~ it's a great amount for the price and their bbq wings are pretty good too. Service is good. The servers here are great - kind, fun attentive. They no longer allow indoor smoking, so it's more please inside. Their beer selection is abysmal. Unless you love dark beers IPAs, or the most basic stuff, you're really out of luck. (We asked if they had any blondes, kolsches, or similar beers and the server recommended an IPA and a wheat beer, which sort of suggested the dude didn't know too much about beer.) The food is okay - nothing to complain about but also nothing I'm going to go looking for again. They seemed to have a good number of regulars, people whose orders the bartenders already knew, and they were playing sports and movies behind the bar. Really, we couldn't get over the beer selection and so we left pretty quickly after 1 beer and a shared burger. We've been here a few times, but it's been a while since our last visit and even longer since trying the food. In the past, the staff has been friendly and attentive enough for expectations. The previous time we ate here, my husband liked the French Dip and I had a pretty good pulled pork sandwich. We also found the atmosphere casual and relaxing, which is right up our alley. Our most recent visit was Sunday. We had been travelling all weekend and wanted to relax. My husband was looking for a place where he would get served a drink and some greasy grub. I just wanted food and a casual enough setting for yoga pants and a sweatshirt. So we took advantage of the open parking spot right in front of The Loophole. We started off looking at the drink menu. My husband asked our server how much the Tequila flight was, since they don't list prices, and she shrugged and said she didn't know. We paused for a second to see if she was going to go check, but she just stared at us and said she didn't know prices off the top of her head like we were stupid to think that an employee could answer such a question. I was baffled by this as I've found the staff friendly and helpful on previous visits. My husband decided to go with his standby, but she said that they no longer carry Knob Creek. What?? But... you're a pub... Anyway, we went with the flight and later found out it was $12.99 for the three shots, which isn't too bad. When she returned with the flight and my soda, we were able to place our order. The menu seemed slightly changed from our last visit and I was really excited to see Monte Cristo lollipops for $8 as an appetizer. That sounded really interesting, really yummy and my husband and I so rarely agree on things like this, so I figured God wanted me to have them. :) I also ordered baja fish tacos for $5 and my husband got their 1/3 lb cheeseburger for $9. It's a good thing we ordered when we did because after that we didn't see our server for a long time. Well, I saw her, I saw her watching tv and playing on her phone with her back to the tables, but couldn't get her attention due to the distance and the music being just a smidge too loud to call out. My soda had arrived watered down and my husband's flight was long gone and he didn't even have water or anything else. We had to wait for the food to arrive, to remedy that situation. Though we've had better experiences here in the past, there were still some highlights of the night. Two of the three shots on the flight were very smooth and seemed pretty top shelf, can't recall which ones were ordered though. The baja fish tacos were okay- they were a great concept, but not executed as well as I had hoped. They were too big to eat easily and no silverware was provided, so I basically made a mess, lol. I found both the fish and the cabbage to be bland. The upside is the fish appeared to be fresh, the portion size was very large for the price and the baja sauce had a pretty good flavor. The chips impressed me though, they were very good, and I don't usually care for chips as a side. Crispy and just salty enough to be satisfying, a great snack in a bar! My husbands fries were okay, not as seasoned or as crispy as I like my fries to be, but they did an adequate job being a side dish. His burger totally surprised me. He started getting really full towards the end, which is surprising for a 1/3 pound and his appetite. So I stole myself a bite and wow! The char was excellent and there was so much flavor in that one little bite. Now, that's a good burger!! I love it when a simple cheeseburger is elevated on taste and cook instead of crazy toppings. Hats off to the guy that was manning the grill! For me, the winner of the night were the Monte Cristo lollipops. Now, the sticks were pointless, they weren't strong enough to hold up to the huge lollipops, so they were more like Monte Cristo bites. But no complaints here, they were AWESOME! The exception was out of the three my husband had, his first one was almost all bread and hardly any filling at all. The three I had were perfect and I am seriously craving more right now. The jam was great, the turkey was smoky, the ham was hearty and the cheese was a perfect compliment. The bread was a great vehicle with a lovely crispy outer texture. It was the perfect combination of flavors. Mmmmm. Though this visit wasn't perfect, it was the only one I can recall having service hiccups. Overall we had a good time and the Monte Cristo lollipops alone are reason enough for me to stop back in and order those as a snack. I've considered that three times this week! For the best experience, I suggest sitting at the bar, the bartender seems to be really on top of things. This was the 2nd time that my hubby and I have eaten here since they've changed the menu. AND, we love it. It's not just your average bar food, it's a lot better- and sometimes you need that. I've had the veggie burger and their BLT with avocado. Both were pretty tasty. My friend says the veggie burger is a frozen patty but I don't care. I just like they have a healthy option if you want to go that route. The onion rings are too big though, like each ring is half of an onion and it's a little too much. The standouts, however, are the Parmesan herb fries which are thin, crispy and perfectly shareable. The homemade soups are amazing so don't pass those up. And, the salad is standard but automatically comes with cheese, and I love the champagne vinaigrette. So, when you're in the mood for above average bar food, give them another try! read more

Their menu and happy hour prices/times have changed...but they haven't updated their website. Let's just say there were a lot of annoyed people there last night, myself included. Our server was brand new and had no idea what was going on. I get that it's a lot to learn a menu and what's on tap, but it's frustrating when you go into a place you've been before and end up paying more than you expected with worse service. The $5 burger Wednesday special is now $7 and happy hour is from 4:20-6:20 instead of 4-7. They also got rid of some of their menu items, which I heard the table next to us ask about. The thing that annoyed me the most was when anyone questioned a change, the bartender just kept saying "I don't know, I just work here" in a super annoyed tone. And I get it, it's frustrating when customers are annoyed about something that's out of your control. But management should have given him more answers and have prepared their staff to explain the changes. Because, frankly, the changes are quite unappealing and it's not a surprise people were displeased. It's also annoying to visit an establishment's website right before going there and be given incorrect information. It clearly states that during happy hour is 4-7( not 4:20-6:20, which it is now apparently), well drinks are $2 and domestic drafts are $3. However, well drinks are now $3 and domestic drafts are $4. Also, there is no happy hour menu, so they don't make it easy to order off of it and the new server had no idea what was included.
