I love oak street so much. My husband and I come here weekly to hang out on the porch and read. He always has a cigar and I get a St. Rita. So good. One of my favorite spots in Denton. I love the atmosphere here and being able to bring my dog to the outdoor seating area. Feta's Greek food truck is right outside and they'll bring you your food if you opt to eat here. I am no beer connoisseur but everyone always gives great recommendations and gives samples before you order anything. There are so many options and they're constantly rotating out the selection of beers. A favorite I've tried has been the redbud wild berry wheat by the Denton brewing company! read more

Really cool space just off the square in downtown Denton. I loved the history of the house and how homey it is. The selection is great and prices were even better. Bathroom was large and clean, too. We went during the day in June so we stayed inside but I imagine the outdoor space gets a lot of use. I really enjoyed it and will be sure to visit again when I'm back in town! read more

Very cool spot in terms of vibe. However, the drinks are not good. The lemonade is sour mix. And the bartenders shorted us on a jigger pour because the bottle ran out and they couldn't be bothered to get a new one. Def not friendly bartenders. Such a shame because it's a cool space. Get your going out on the town beard done, grease up the chain on the cruiser (i'm a biking guy) and head out to this place for a great beer and some overall hipsterness. This place is great! Old house crafted into this great backyard, neighborhood feel sort of place. They have an amazing selection of beers, some cocktails to choose from and food outside (I think, I only came for the beer). This place is a definite stop when in the Northern Dallas area. I've been coming here for years and love all the work John Williams has done for his staff and the community. I was served by Barrett tonight, and very much appreciated his attentive and personable service. I'll gladly come back more regularly because of how welcome he made me and my gf feel. One of the moments I appreciated the most was asking about the cheese board from 10:1, which he told me he didn't know what specific cheeses were on it, but told me he would find out. Oak St. Drafthouse is the kind of venue that totally thrives in city like Denton. It's a charismatic concept; resurrecting the third oldest house in town by converting it into a bar. The essence of "home" is still honored through the preservation of original furnishings and decor, and a "boutique bar" spirit is risen with the promise of great beer, creative cocktails, and an awesome patio. I'd like to talk about this "patio" for a minute. Oak St. Drafthouse is a house, of course; an old Denton house with awesome, beautiful porches. Naturally, it possesses a front and backyard. The outdoor patio is definitely - and simply - a giant backyard. It's full of picnic tables, mismatched patio furniture, and outdoor games strewn about. You feel like a big kid being released into your grandmother's backyard where you can roam freely, relax, hang out for hours, and feel safe. It's all made better with a drink in hand, and on the weekends the "back bar" is open so you won't have to walk inside to buy your brew! There's all sorts of drink specials going on here, so check their website, facebook, or twitter for their most up-to-date goodies. They also feature live bands fairly often and participate in a lot of events; I know they're involved with 35 Denton and host "tap takeovers" from new breweries in the area. Oak St. Drafthouse is a pretty darn Denton-y bar, obviously, so expect a not too diverse crowd of young twenty-somethings with beards. I've seen patrons from other demographics on occasion, so I do think this bar's appeal translates well to anyone. I'm sure they'll only get more popular! read more

So I really enjoyed coming here last night just to relax and hangout. My first impression of the place was ummm wasn't that a house? And the answer to that is yes oak st. drafthouse was once a house that got converted into a beerhaven. So their selection is pretty good with 48 beers and some liquors for those of you who don't drink beer. The staff seemed very well knowing on their selection and helping you narrow the choices down to maybe one or two beers. If you wander inside there are chairs and sofa's everywhere so there's a lot of seating space, not to mention some metal chairs on the front porch when its nice outside...but its summer in texas so the porch is nice for when its really late outside. I felt that coming here last night the atmosphere here was really relaxing and it had a very Austin-y vibe going for it. Up until some guy in the shopping center next to the drafthouse opened his car door and started blaring a song where the only line I can remember was Imma smack tha bitch... The only other thing to note is after 9 they set up a table right in front of the door on the patio and card people as they're entering but if you've already gotten a beer by then, then they won't card you. read more

Definitely one of my favorite spots in Denton. The interior is a charming old house with comfy sofas, intriguing decor (love that lamp) and a sit-down multi-game arcade set-up. It's a great hang out with friends in winter (when they remember to turn the heat on) or when it's rainy (especially because it's one of 3 bars in Denton that DO NOT allow smoking! WOO HOO!!), but I think the backyard outdoor area is the big draw. They even have umbrellas for shade or heaters if it gets chilly. A lot of reviewers seem to think the whole place has a bit of a watered down Austin feel (perhaps in the spirit of Spider House but way more beer) but I think it's a great addition to Denton. The crowd seems to have a little bit of everyone, it's not a bunch of college kids. Likewise, the music is pretty diverse as well--50s rock one day, country the next, but it's almost always good stuff. No food offered but you can order from anywhere willing to deliver or bring your own. The bartenders are all very friendly and helpful. There are about 50 or so beers on tap with a focus on Texas brews. Ask about any beers you're unsure of, and you'll likely also get a sampling first. They have a couple wines (sadly only chardonnay in the white dept--usually I hate chardonnay but this is Becker Vineyards so it's drinkable) as well, and the few mixed drinks I've had have been pretty tasty. It definitely gets pretty crazy on weekend nights but I've found it's usually still manageable! read more

I have to admit, I'm a bit partial to this place... I love a good beer and the idea of a bar simply centered around hanging out with friends. No TVs, no loud bass, no pool tables... just a lot of chairs, a big ass backyard, and bean bags if you want to play. Haven't seen a popped collar yet! The background music sounds like someone hooked their iPod up to the stereo and is always different- Much better than most bars in Denton for sure. This is one of those places that you can stop in and grab a beer almost any time and with anyone. A mid-day drink is nothing out of the ordinary. There's not really a defined "vibe" of the bar- you'll see all types of people at all different ages. It's kind of like stopping by a friend's house that just happens to have a ton of delicious craft beers and invites you to hang out in the backyard. As a side note- seating space inside the house is limited. The lack of shade in the backyard would be my one complaint/concern. They're constantly putting up and taking down individual table umbrellas and now have a few shade shelters, but I don't know how much that will help when it gets to be 110 degrees. If only there was a way to plant some big trees in the middle of it all... But as of now, the temperatures are still bearable at night when there's a good breeze. The pricing is pretty reasonable, especially considering the number of specialty beers and frequency of new ones. It's nice to be able to try stuff you see at the store before splurging on a 6 pack. Most beers will run you about $4-5/pint, with higher alcohol ones in a 7oz. specialty glass at a higher price. Their late night happy hour from 9-11pm nightly is wonderful with double premium wells for only $3 (Amsterdam Gin, Titos Vodka, Jim Beam, Sauza Gold and Cruzan Rum). The staff has always been exceptionally friendly. You order your beer by number off a massive menu, which kind of feels like ordering at a fast food place, but they're good about confirming what you want. There is NO pretentious beer snob attitude and they're always willing to offer recommendations when asked. They seem to be constantly improving, which just makes it that much easier to support and love this place. The beer and liquor selection continues to grow, they are hosting awesome events, and I've noticed regular new little additions like lights on the fence posts, citronella candles, etc. Yeah, everything's still a little plain and has room to grow, but if you haven't checked it out already, I strongly recommend you do.
