Hands down the best bar in Denton. Excellent beer and whiskey selection. Big front porch and a huge backyard makes it feel almost like home.

This is a great addition to Denton. Located in a historic house, it's kind of like a coffee shop for people who drink beer. Neat old furniture, separate rooms, and the huge outdoor area. I love getting a beer on a nice afternoon (recommend #23, Franconia Wheat), sitting under the big trees outside and just reading a book. I went on a Friday night shortly after it opened and it was definitely a bit awkward trying to make it thought the crowd to the one counter to get a beer. Took forever, too. However, it looks like they've added an extra bar outside since then, so I'm sure that helps a lot. read more

My brother lives in Denton. That is how I know about the Oak St. Drafthouse. I now have been there as well. Thankfully it was on a warmish evening as the outdoor space in the back is huge and good for people watching. The inside is where the magic is. There are many beers on tap here. Most of them are local Texas brews. I love supporting local and on this night one of the beers came with a free pint glass from the brewery. We got there as the keg was getting to its final pour. Our pints were probably 2 of the last that came out of the thing, but a free pint glass is a free pint glass. After taking those out to the back and enjoying them, we got another beer from the bar outside. You really can't beat $3 pints and we enjoyed a few more TX beers. Nice laid back vibe from the place. Even got to meet one of the owners who my brother knows a bit. He'd fit well in Portland with his thick beard. Drinking here I almost felt like I was home. read more

It's like having a drink in the comfort of your living room, or in your backyard, without having to clean or make the drinks. Seriously, it's just like being at home because they have everything from bug spray to ping pong available to use They have a large selection of beer, and I'm more of a liquor person, so I get the mixed drinks mostly. Definitely try their Cucumber Margarita or Raspberry Lemonade! Both refreshing and yummy. OH! Also, they're DOG FRIENDLY!!! There's no smoking inside, so that's a bit different from a lot of bars and should satisfy smokers and non-smokers alike. read more

I was very excited on the day that Oak St Draft House was opened. A year and almost a half later, I am still very excited about this establishment, and trying to find all kind of excuses to go there as frequently as I can. Since most fans of this place already covered everything great I could say about it, I will, then, try to explain my feverish about the Oak St Draft house from a slightly different angle. Oak St Draft might not carry the best selection of micro beers, however, it does carry a rare ability in understanding the local communities, contributing to the local communities through charity works, and building the customer loyalties around it. I think the owner of the Oak St Draft should write a book on how to run a successful business in Denton TX that everybody loves. Period. Oh,BTW, the OSD&CP has the best price for drinking the Real Ale Sisyphus. Trust me. It is better than eating a burger. read more

Cute place we decided to stop off at before we headed back to McKinney. We got up to the porch, and started to go inside when a staff member sitting on the porch called to us that she needed to see our IDs. Totally fine, except she was just sitting there chatting with a group of friends, so we didn't even realize she was working there. After we got inside, we got in line to get drinks from the bar. The line looked long, but moved pretty fast. There were two bartenders working. One of them yelled out "who wants to party?", so I guess that meant me since I was next in line. Maybe I'm just too old for all of that, but this place didn't have that "party" vibe to it. No, didn't want to party... Just wanted some drinks. Ordered two vodka sodas. The bartender asked if we wanted to keep it open or close our tab. We said we'd like to close it. He took my card, scanned it, and then handed it back to me. Then he yelled for the next person to come up and get drinks. I was confused. I had never been there before, and I was waiting for him to give me my receipt so I could see what I was charged and also leave a tip. Nothing. We went outside and sat on the very nice porch. It's a really nice area to hang out at. Very pretty. Enjoyed that time. After we had finished our drink, we decided to leave. I checked my bank statement the next day, and I was charged $14 for the two drinks. Not too bad. I don't know how they do tips or anything, so that was a bit odd. I'm glad I didn't get overcharged or anything. I'd come back. Probably would go at a different time though. Saturday night probably isn't ideal for the over 30 crowd. Oak St. Drafthouse is an unusual drinking spot. Built in what I think I remember reading is Denton's third oldest house, you go through the main entry way of this old beauty and find a bar with a lovely variety of beer options on tap in what must have once been a kitchen? Living room? The house is filled with chairs and couches for lounging in the downstairs rooms, but what I really fell in love with was the huge backyard. Lots and lots and lots of outdoor seating, pretty good music choices playing, and a dog-friendly policy make this a fantastic place to do some day drinking. The front yard has a bathtub, which is very difficult to walk past without wanting to sit in. Like many places in Denton, you'll have to hand over your ID to become a "member" in order to drink here. On the occasion we went, the bartender was happy to help us navigate the multitude of choices and give us samples to help our decision making process. Just a head's up, no food is available here but you are walking distance to basically all the goodness Denton has to offer. Now that the weather's warming up again, I can't wait to spend some more time people watching from the comfort of Oak St. Drafthouse's fantastic backyard. read more

In my opinion, this is definitely one of the most Denton-y places in Denton. Super chill bar opened up inside one of the oldest buildings in the city. There's always several smiling faces enjoying a beer on the front porch as you walk in, and bartenders are almost always nice and personable (although I have had a couple less-than-great experiences). At the indoor bar, they have a huge tap list on the wall always filled with great local beers. OSDH&CP is a huge believer in supporting local, which makes me a huge supporter of them! They also offer several different themed beer flights, which I think is pretty neat. For a bar with such a great beer selection, the liquor and cocktail selection is also quite notable. They have several signature cocktails (most including local spirits) and daily specials posted above the bar. Next time I'm there I'll try to remember to grab a pic of them. A small selection of cigars are also available for purchase inside, though smoking is only permitted outside. The back patio is one of the best in Denton. Nothing fancy at all, just picnic tables, lights, and chill decor. There's a pingpong table in the corner for the restless, but other than than, it is a very person-centered area. No TV's or stages, just friends having drinks with each other and enjoying Denton and the community. read more

One of our many stops in Denton was here, and this place was actually great. Towards 1 AM, we were finishing up our night, when we came across this place. It seemed chill, so I was definitely down to check it out. Walking in, some people were at the front porch and welcomed us in. We walked inside, and there was a bar right in the front. I ordered a Moscow Mule and my friend ordered a oatmeal beer. The drinks were made quickly and we were on our way to the patio. The patio was huge with an outdoor bar and plenty of seating. There was also a ping pong table in the back. Bonus points for that and for the patio also being dog friendly. Overall, this place was quite nice. The drinks were good, the service was quick, and we got to play ping pong! Definitely coming back. read more

This place always feels like home. Everyone is so nice. Staff is very knowledgeable. Lots of craft beers to choose from. Cheap prices. What a great place to grab a beer with some friends, or just chill quietly by yourself. I happened to meet Desmond (one of the managers) one day, and he recommended that I come by that evening. I'm really glad that I did! It's set in an old corner house a couple of blocks from the historic Denton Square, and every room is conducive to brews and conversation; there is also a big backyard patio for those pleasant evenings that we get in the fall and spring. There were 45 beers on tap, and an expansive menu of cocktails, too, including a few guaranteed to warm you up on a cold night! Also remember that Tuesday is $3 draft night, which is a great reason to go on a Tuesday!! read more

Today me and my boyfriend came to get a drink and our dog was having a rough time with the heat and the owner got out of his way and brought my dog a big bucket of cold water and put a fan facing him so he could cool off. Really great atmosphere and they even had heaters near every table which was very beneficial during the chilly evening that we visited. It's not particularly hard to sort out just how Oak St Drafthouse has managed to captivate the Denton community in the time that it's been pouring: and why not? It has all the hallmarks of some of my favorite bars - the reputable beer list (replete with a Texan forward section), a seemingly ever-changing bottled beer list and a (by my estimation) savvy staff that loves to chat about what makes beer good for different people. In fact, I tasted a sour which I never would have given a chance otherwise and was pretty impressed. Score one for the bar staff. I was excited to hear that my old college stomping grounds had introduced a beer garden which is the "New-to-Dallas" fad. I was also excited to hear it was in an old historic house. However, when I got there, the house hadn't really been transformed into a funky-hip beer establishment. It is essentially a front for an empty old house that has a room with 40 something beers on tap. The outside lacked any type of unique character or landscaping. If you feel this place is "super cool" then you haven't been outside of Denton and you especially haven't been to Austin. That being said it is a start for Denton, and you can grab a great beer there, but I know there are some investors out there that could open a better establishment. read more

OSDH&CP is the best bar-that-doesnt-feel-like-a-bar ever. They just got in some Jenga to play last month that adds to mis-matched Checkers and whatever-color-disk -you-can-find Connect Four. The beer garden is awesome, but on hot days the couch indoors is a cozy home away from home. Bring some playing cards, friends and good conversation and you'll be here for hours having a great Tv/crappy jukebox- free time. I digress...this place is awesome. When I first moved here a year ago my friends took me and I fell in love. I've always liked perusing and tasting new beers from the isles of Central Market and Whole Foods, but this place has it all, ON DRAFT. Deep Ellum brews = check. DogfishHead IPA = Check. Seasonal pumpkin/Christmas/Spring/Fall/Winter brews = check. But my all-time favorite....Revolver Blood&Honey out of Granbury, it's beer perfection. The Pecan Porter is a close 2nd. I'm also quite partial to the moscow mule cocktail. Try something new! The bartenders know more about beer than you can fathom, so don't be pretentious. Order your beer by number and tip your handsome bearer of the pints and you'll be A-OK. read more

My brother told me about this place today, we are both beer geeks and heard of this place via word of mouth. When he pulled into parking lot I was like "Where is this place?" and he said pointing across the street "Right there".. But all I seen was a older historic house....but apparently, this WAS our destination! Holy crap, walk in here, you see a couple rooms and a ton of taps, 48 to be exact....took me a while to adjust.....this is a house with an awesome bar!!!...the rooms were full so we went into the back yard. Wow! Round bar tables with tents and picnic tables in the shade. Unbelievable! Overall, you have to go here to believe, and great prices too! Damn I wish I lived down the street! Also, in regards to another persons rating on the place, "I have been outside of Denton".....This place is awesome and they are cooperating with the beer culture, giving this place a low score and you consider yourself a beer geek is just wrong! I REALLY wanted to like the Oak St. Drafthouse! I want to support local businesses, and it seemed to have so much going for it. But, for me, it just doesn't quite come together. Lots of good beers on tap? Check! A selection that is nicely rounded and changing often? Check! Clean glassware? Check! Oops, that's the end of the checklist because that's where the goodness stops. Since I didn't go to UNT or TWU, and since I'm not a drinking buddy with the owners or bartenders, it seems I'm at a disadvantage and not in their target demographic. What I see is a run down house filled with retro furniture. Retro without class. It looks like stuff picked up on the side of the road after no one bought it at the estate sale and before the trash man picked it up. The flow of the place is awful when they are busy, and not that good at any time. The beers are served from a centrally located room. It gets crowded, and the line becomes diffuse and directionless as people go through the room to the front or back of the building. When you finally get to the bartenders, they want you to tell them the tap number, not the beer name. This is the only place I've been where I have to tell someone, "I want a number 12" rather than, "Maredsous tripple". The decor would be eclectic if it were a bit more polished. The only TV's I've seen here are 1950's vintage analog TV's that, for many reasons, don't work. Since the floors are neither polished nor freshly painted, the place has a dirty feel to it. It's probably not actually dirty, but it doesn't feel clean. I'm not looking for an antiseptic building, just cared for. I'm hardly a snob - I love the Dog and Duck in Austin, the lamented Prufrock's in Houston and even Dirty Martin's in Austin - and none of those places are going to win a "House Beautiful" award. Still, I'd rather drive further and go to the flying saucer, the gingerman, or even further and go to the moth. I'll probably come here again - too many of my friends swoon at the mere mention of it's name for me to successfully avoid it. And I'd love to give it a better rating. We'll see. read more

I've been meaning to update this for awhile now. This place has grown on me so much and they continually give back. Not only do they have an excellent beer selection, but they are now making on some "finer" cocktails. This opened up the door for so many other people and has made this a more rounded bar. The cocktails are good and i've had nothing that really complain about. While they are not "top shelf" or "high end" they do hit the spot if you are wanting something that you cannot normall get in Denton. I'm super pleased with this!!! Staff is still pretty darn good and keep things nice and tidy. I was out there one saturday and they served everyone fajitas for a customer appreciation day!!! I starting to fall in love with this place, but the inside is holding me back. Like i said before i would like to see how it grows and it has, but i don't think it's reached it's full potential yet. Can't believe I haven't written a review for Oak St. yet! As I'm sure many people have already said, this is one of the best bars (if not the best) in Denton. The outside area is so much fun and very open, which fits Denton's personality perfectly. The beer is on point, and they usually have some good specials depending on what time you're there. The inside is fun too for when it's freezing outside... they have games and couches and the music is usually great and always something different. If you live in Denton you've probably been here, and if you're visiting, this is a place you don't want to miss! read more

While sitting out on the back porch of Oak St. Drafthouse, I was chatting with my friends about the change that has been happening in Denton. We were marveling at all the amazing establishments that have been popping up around the square, and there is no better example than Oak St. The beer selection is astounding and the bartenders really have a solid understanding of each of the 40+ beers on tap. It's hard not to wish that I was still a college students basking in the glory of the up and coming bar scene here in Denton! Oak St. really shines on the beautiful Denton days when you can really enjoy sitting in the back area, staring at the variety of dogs that patrons regularly bring in and enjoying brews that you'd have a hard time finding anywhere else. I am currently obsessed with a milk stout nitro (#26 I believe) that pours beautifully and goes down even smoother. It's hard at times not to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of draft and bottled beers, but keep heart in knowing that it's hard to go wrong in your choice. The best way to enjoy a visit to Oak St. is to be adventurous and not stick with the same old beer you're used to. read more
