My friend went to Fry Street Tavern this past weekend and called me in Tears. Someone in the group wasn't feeling good. They tried to take her to the bathroom to escape the crowd and a female bartender came into the bathroom and asked them to leave (not a problem). As they were trying to gather their things to leave the bathroom and exit the establishment a male member of staff (Zachariah) came into the women's bathroom and started yelling at them to get the F**k out and calling them all sorts of names and yelling in their faces. He physically picked up one of them and started dragging her out then dropping her on the floor. He used such force that her arms are now covered in dark purple bruises. Completely unnecessary as they were complying and trying to leave the establishment. I completely understand kicking someone out of a bar if deemed necessary but this went beyond that. When another member of your staff is telling the one dragging a girl out to stop and to let her go that's a sign there's a problem. read more

Literally this place is so wack. Last week a classmate of mine came here and shit got crazy. He had to go to the bathroom you know so went to go take a poo and the security guard comes in and tells him to leave. The men's restroom had no door on the stall, so the security guard watched my friend take a shit and said he isn't leaving until he leaves. He wouldn't even take his eyes off him while he pulled up his pants. TMI but who does that????Anyways as soon as he gets up him and the security guard start fighting and 5 other security guards come in, hold my friend down and start choking him then proceeded to physically throw him out the bar all because he was pooping in the bathroom. Last time I checked a restroom is meant to be used as a bathroom so I don't understand why you can't use the restroom in peace. read more

I had an incident occur Friday night with one of their security guards. The bar was about to close and he told me that I could go get my Bestfriend from outside, that way we could tab out. I found my friend and then I was told by the same security guard that I was no longer allowed inside. He proceeded to become physical and verbal with me. He pushed me multiple times and called me a bitch. No one from the establishment came to help or offer aid. I've never been so disrespected in my life nor have I ever felt so in danger for my life. This place is not where you want to go have a girls night or even a night with your guy. This place has no integrity or your best interest in mind. Spend your money and time elsewhere. read more

What a horrible excuse for a bar. I waited in line to get inside, only because the other bars were too crowded on the last party night of the semester. I got in, had my ID checked, and then they called last call. They closed the doors to the remaining people in line, but told me I had to leave because I didn't have a stamp already and it's last call. Seriously? I literally just wanted to talk to a few people who I won't be seeing until next semester. It's just the principle, how are you going to let someone in and then tell them they have to leave? If you can't let anyone new come in at 1:45, say last call at 1:44, close the doors, and let anyone who had come in already to enter. This place has no redeeming qualities. I first ventured into Fry Street Tavern at the recommendation of a friend, and sat at the bar with my two lunch companions during the early afternoon. The bartender who served our food was FANTASTIC, incredibly friendly and remembered our orders perfectly without writing them down. Their burgers are served on fresh ciabatta rolls, which are warm and awesome, and I always get the parmesan truffle fries on the side. Their onion rings and fried pickles are also VERY good. I would not recommend going and trying to eat on a weekend night, mostly because it is first and foremost a bar, and Fry Street is always very congested on weekends. read more

This is always my go to spot whenever I'm wanting to go out and have a good time. The staff is always on top of their stuff and everybody is always having a good time. They are adamant about using wearing masks and there's hand sanitizer and cleaning supplies everywhere. I'm pleasantly surprised by how well they are handling social distancing guidelines. The drinks will get you in there, but the music, atmosphere, and good vibes will keep you coming back. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Drinks are cheap! Service is usually always good. BUT BE CAREFUL, THEY OVERCHARGE YOU... Yesterday was the third time that it has happened to me... Sometimes the bartenders will accidentally ring in another drink (or ring it in twice)... Sometimes they will swipe your card twice and therefore you are left with paying double. They never offered me reimbursement (It was 12 dollars the first time and 6 dollars the second)... They just offer me free drinks which never amount to the money they owe me... Other than that, Drinks would be very cheap if they didn't overcharge and the servers are nice to you... but maybe thats so you wont complain when you notice they overcharged you. read more

I'm just reviewing the food with this, not the alcohol/bar service. The food is pretty good, kinda what you expect out of a typical American bar, but better than the average college bar. The things I've tried: BURGER - It looked small, but it was a 1/3 pound and filled me up. The patty was juicy without being greasy. I liked that to add things (cheese, bacon, egg, avocado) was only 50 cents to add and not a dollar. The bun was nice and toasted, crispy on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. FRIES - Pretty good. They remind me of McDonald's fries in a good way. They're seasoned before coming to the table, always nice. PHILLY CHEESESTEAK - was ok. I'm not too familiar with cheesesteaks, but I was wanting more bell pepper/onion/mushroom/stuff with mine. Also, a seasoned salt was used that was dominating the flavor and I'm not sure I liked it. BACON WRAPPED JALAPENO - Awesome. Cream cheese, bacon, jalapeno, covered with a sweet syrup. Personally I would of preferred crispier bacon, but I could eat a ton of these and be happy. EGG ROLLS - Pretty good. They were like southwest style egg rolls, but tasted better than the ones from Chili's/Applebees/Frozen food aisle. CHIPS & DIP - By far the best deal. House chips come with 5 dipping sauces: salsa, pico, salsa verde, queso, and guac, for $4. Really the deal is so good I find it hard to order any of the other appetizers. The chips are thick, which I like because they don't break off in dip. The guac has a nice, clean taste to it and the salsa verde has a sweet kick to it. Service was good, you just walk up to the bar and tell them whatever you want. Prices included tax. My entree came right after I finished my appetizer, which came right after I finished a drink. read more

Just stopped in on our way through for a quick drink. Evidently they have remodeled in the last few years. The lay out is nice and there is plenty of room to mingle and enjoy a meal. The staff was plenty friendly and able to make some stellar food recoommendations from their menu. Kind of wish I took him up on it to be honest looking back. But alas that wasn't the mission for this visit. Great place with some great drink prices. Definitely worth another visit next time I'm in Denton. read more

I assumed that the friendly staff had taken the night off until I met the cook. The "bartender" who took my order was very unfriendly and passive aggressively rude. My order was prepared incorrectly and while the cook offered an apology, the bartender offered no input and didn't take any action to correct it. I was also ignored when trying to get his attention for condiments. My experience wasn't the friendly customer service that everyone else boasted about. Went there last night with my Real ID from Maryland and they thought it was fake. I live in Maryland and go to school in Texas, so naturally I would have a Maryland ID. The girl who was checking it even pulled out a book and tried to flunk it, while the guy sitting next to her said it was fake. They called another guy over who looked at it for 2 seconds and then called it fake as well. I said to the main guy "how do i prove it's real?" and he said "i dont know, be 21." and I was flabbergasted. Should've asked to speak to a manager then. They asked me my address and of course I knew it since i'd been living in Maryland MY WHOLE LIFE. And then I said "what, do you need pictures of my house?" And he got annoyed and let me through. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? It's like they were trying to prove it was fake and not real. Will never go back, since they seem to reject any ID that isn't from TX or the surrounding states. read more

This is the most disrespectful bar on Fry. Help yourself, and spend your money else where. This starts with the girl who checks ID's at the front. If you are a minor with a fake go ahead and try to get in. She will pretty much let anyone in. You have about a 50/50 shot with her. I was surrounded by minors when I was inside, talking about how easy it was to make it in. Hard to enjoy a bar with underage kids going crazy. Nevertheless when she catches someone with a fake, she makes a scene. For something that happens pretty often, you would think she would just refuse them and move on. Not that hard to just say no, without being extremely rude in front of everyone. She is extremely impolite to everyone when they come in, minor or not, and it ruins the environment of the bar. Once I made it past her, I wanted to leave. Everyone in line was talking about how rude she usually is. They couldn't have been more right. Every time I have gone she works, so don't think this is just a one night thing. I've even been in line and watched her turn someone away simply because she did not like them. That person was with 10 other people and they all left, talk about a loss of profit. I realize a bar can turn down anyone for any reason, other than a discriminatory one, but come on. This is not an exclusive bar with perks that make every bar on Fry look like trash. This is just another hole in the wall. You would have a way better experience with any other bar on Fry. As for the bar itself, drink are priced mediocrely. Many other bars have better prices. The place is as dirty as it gets for a bar, I would guess maintenance is a low priority. Don't even try to use the bathrooms, you would have better luck in a porta potty. This bar is considered to be the worst of the worst. No wonder they don't have much of a crowd, hard to go to a bar where you feel unwelcome. I'm sure the bartenders don't enjoy such a low customer base. Point of all this is, local or foreign to Denton, you would enjoy your time at pretty much any other bar. Save money, enjoy your time, and avoid this bar at all costs. read more

as you walk into the tavern you're met with a stale smell and a poorly lit empty room. it was painfully obvious that the beer i ordered was from the bottom of the keg and tasted absolutely horrible. to top off our visit my friend was told he was against their dress code simply by wearing a hat with 1990's cartoon characters on it. another problem with the dress code posted on their door next to the cob webs, it states that team jerseys are prohibited even though on the outside of the building it says sports bar. how is this place a sports bar and prohibits jerseys? along with the mildew there was cob webs everywhere. poorly kept arcade games no pool tables and we weren't even told that they offered food (not saying that i would trust anything that came out of their kitchen). so after suffering through half of my beer before throwing in the towel we left and went right next to the fry street public house where i highly recommend you spend your money and leave the fry street tavern to be handled like a horse who has out lived its usefulness and, take it to the pasture and let it die. please do the lovey town of Denton, tx a favor and close your doors forever. read more
