If there is anyone in Denton that you don't want to run into, I guarantee you they'll be at Lou's. I like to go out after 11, which, if I'm unfortunate enough to find myself at Lou's, means a long line to get in, a long line for a beer, and and a long line for the bathroom. Honestly, I've walked over to RipRocks or Cool Beans and gone to the bathroom faster. Also, make sure to get a bottled beer (as opposed to draft) because its guaranteed that some drunk frat guy is going to run into you. That being said, if I find myself out and about around sunset, Lou's patio is a much quieter, nicer atmosphere and the pool tables inside are probably open. Usually, on a night out I prefer the down-to-earthness of Cool Beans, or the dive bar atmosphere of Andy's. read more

Stopped in at around 10:15 on a Tuesday night. Really just wanted a jack and coke but the bartenders were insistent that I get a beer. I don't need a crappy glass to take home, I just need good service, neither of which were provided. Atmosphere, meh, and you call that a bathroom? Come on. Drinks are okay, entrance folks were okay, environment is pretty fun sometimes. I highly recommend to get a banana hammock. Been here about 6-7 times with my dog. One time the bartender was really nice and brought me a dog bowl full of water even when they were busy plus a treat. However one time a different bartender acted like a 4 year old child to myself and several other customers, since then I have taken my beer money elsewhere but all in all not a bad place. read more

Huge open patio, three bars and a great atmosphere. I prefer open air seating outside and no live music so this was a much better bar for me. Drinks were fast and cheap, hardly a line at the bar. Of course we went during the summer so no crowds as everybody is back at home. They check licenses at the entrance, just a simple swipe and maybe a signature and that's it. read more

I decided to take my friends here for their first night visiting Denton. Big mistake! Kelly (the name she gave me) who was working the door, said my friend who tripped over their dangerous concrete in heels couldn't come in. My friend (who had one drink all night) explained that her feet were hurting and it was the sketchy path that made her trip. Kelly clearly didn't care. Kelly needs to take a refresher course or find a new job. Until then, I will never be back. read more

Lucky Lou's Manager Discriminates against people with physical disabilities and apparently US Veterans too--- With friends from out of town, I showed up to Lucky Lou's sober as a duck. They dropped me off at the front of the gate so I didn't have to walk to far. We wanted to go to Lou's due to its open environment. My friend drove all the way to Dallas to go out. I have had several surgeries on my leg. I tore my ACL and both sides of my meniscus. I tend to limp because of this. Before I could even hand the bouncer (black gentleman with long hair) my ID he told me he would not let me in. When I inquired why, he told me I was stumbling. When I explained my surgeries and offered to show him my scared up leg, he said it was not happening. When my friends eventually found a parking spot and showed up at the gate I told them what had happened. I politely asked to speak to a manager, and the bouncer informed me he was the manager. He was the bouncer so he managed who gets in and I was not getting in. Standing out side the gate with my friends (again completely sober), he threaten to call the police if I did not leave because I was on his property. I informed the "manager" that I was well in my right to stand on the side walk out side of the business. I invited him to call the police because again I was sober and very coherent. This is when he reached over the gate as if to put his hands on me, I backed away. My friends and I left. Never once did the bouncer take my ID and ask me a question (birthday, address, anything of this nature). Never once did the bouncer try to evaluate my speech to see if I slurred my words, or ask me any questions about my night so far. It was 10:30 pm. Even if I was drunk as a skunk this "manager" never even offered to call a cab for me, or offer to grab me some water to sober up. He noticed that I had a limp, and I have never felt more humiliated when I was with my friends. We ended up going to Rip Rocks, Cool Beans, and the Garage with no issues due to my limp. I was served and thankfully had a great night regardless of the disservice I received at Lou's. I see another reviewer (Google reviews) had the exact same problem I did with Lou's and discrimination. He was a veteran! It is too bad when a soldier can take a bullet for his country but not allowed to have a beer. I would not have written a review if I would not have seen this veteran having a similar issue as I did. It is appalling. Instead of hiring any six-foot-tall-neanderthal who can bench press 200 lbs but struggles with lifting and turning the pages of a book, hire and train someone with some common decency. There is plenty of other bars in Denton that are available that treat all their guests with respect while upholding the law. Lou's is not one of them, and I would not recommend going. This is especially true if you plan on taking anyone who is self-conscious about a physical disability. read more

Lucky Lou's use to be my home away from everything (our Cheers bar). However, since the patio addition a few years ago, this bar now attracts frat boy idiots and sorority vomit. I miss the days when it was full of more artist/music/weirdo types. Now I'd rather go pay cover to drink at Dan's Silver Leaf than sit in this annoyingly loud bar with not so great music. At least i'd pretty much be guarenteed a good show. If you like smoke and being crowded by sorority/frat types and enjoy screaming to your friends instead of talking... go for it. You could say i've out grown this place but i don't think that's the case at all. I think it's the other way around. read more

ugh. lou's. it's true that basically everyone comes here. it's almost obligatory. and it's guaranteed that you'll see someone you know here, whether you want to or not. i mean, i had some good times there. but at this point, i could honestly never go back, and i wouldn't miss it. there's usually ample seating, even on crowded nights...so...that's good. the music is generally decent. but i'll have to join the choir and agree that this place peaked a few years back. i like when they have free chips and salsa. i like when they have drink specials. (granted, they make the mixed drinks that are on special weaker than normal, but a lot of bars do that.) i especially like watching the parade of drunken fools coming in and out through those wrought iron gates. that part, i'll miss. read more

If you're 21-25 yrs old, you might enjoy this bar. Age is totally a a factor because it is the closest and cheapest place near UNT campus, and it is teeming with hyped up youngins. I guess I outgrew the place when I realized I didn't like standing in lines to get drinks and I didn't like being in the vicinity of fresh alcohol-induced vomit. The bathrooms are rough, but considering the cheap drinks you gotta expect a somewhat cheap looking place. The dudes lean towards the bro dude or frat kind but that might be your jam! If you're a hipster or artsy in any way, this bar is probably the best fit for you. They have decent drink specials. Happy hour with free chips and salsa from 7-9 daily, regular priced $3 frozen margaritas, and the largest selection of beers on Fry Street. I particularly enjoy a nice Michelada and about half the bartenders actually know what one is and how to make it. If I ask anywhere else on Fry Street, I usually get a "O_o huh??" read more

I always try to arrive a little early because by 11pm on a Saturday night the place is usually packed. Lucky Lous nights were always a fun part of my grad school life in Denton. My friends and I would usually grab a table on the patio and people-watch and chill out until closing. The place can get packed, as any typical bar, but I liked the feel of it. New Years Eve was fun at Lous too, and I liked walking there from apartments that were just blocks away. My sister started going to UNT in Denton back in 2002, and we'd hit up this place once in a while when I'd be in town. They have great deals on drinks, and I enjoy the new outdoor seating. Great place to have a drink and good laughs with friends. The staff is friendly and nice and the drink specials are always great. The outdoor patio has lots of tables and chairs so there is always a place to sit. The patio even has its own bar allowing you to get a drink without having to walk back inside. The music is mostly rock, classic and modern with a couple of metal songs in there to keep people awake. (Metallica, Sabbath, The Sword). I lived in Denton for 6 years and called this bar home. Management is awesome and bar staff are like brothers and sisters to me. Even if they have gone on to other ventures it's still a tight knit family there and I was fortunate enough to be apart of it. There are always awesome drink specials and quality craft beer on tap that is not price gauging like you experience in Dallas or Ft Worth. I was refused service because I was in the Military. I walk with a prosthetic leg how much trouble could I really be. I waited patiently and respectfully in line like everyone else and was told to leave right after the bouncer asked if I was a veteran. When I asked why I was being told to leave all he would say is "you can't come in and you need to leave". Absolutely terrible bar, would never recommend to anyone. This place is AWESOME. The best bar in Denton by far. They have cool life sized games like connect four tourny where the winner gets a $40 bar tab. How awesome is that. They have $2 long islands, rum and coke, margaritas from 9-11pm everyday. The best night is the $3 Mug Night, you pay $3 for the nights import and you keep the glass that the beer comes with. I've been 21 for a couple of months and I just recently began checking out Fry Street in Denton. There's definitely a wide variety and style of bars to fit most moods. One of the bars which I'm beginning to like more and more is Lucky Lou's. From what I've seen thus far, this is one of the bars with better drink specials and the staff and bartenders are actually pretty friendly compared to some of the other bars. However, the inside is a little limited in size and on busy nights, you're going to find yourself weaving through tight crowds. On the plus side though, the outdoor patio makes up for that lack of space indoors. Right now, I rate this bar 4 stars but only because this is were I've enjoyed myself the most the times I've come to Fry Street. Otherwise, based on the rest of the review I've written, I'd rate it at 3 or 3 1/2 stars. Overall, it's not too bad of a bar. With a pool table, couple of flat screens, darts, another game (kind of like throwing horse shoes but they're sand bags and you sink them into opposing whole, not sure of the name??) and a large outdoor area, it's certainly worth checking out when you visit Fry Street. read more
