Salsa is obviously your first impression of a place and I was nervous about the food bc the salsa wasn't good. Luckily the food was good! Hubby and I shared the combo fajitas and it was huge for 2 people! Plus each person got their own tortillas and rice/bean plate! I also got a strawberry margarita which wasn't too shabby for the price! Had their cute Christmas decor up too! And our waitress was super awesome! She didn't seem to be bothered by us being annoying lol

While on the rode wanted to try some Tex Mex. From Yelp reviews this looked good. Madison was our waitress and took great care of us. Chips and queso are served when you sit down. I had cheese chili relleno with charo beans and rice. Soo good fresh cooked to order. Tiki hubby had tamales and beef enchiladas. Cute clean restaurant with a delicious Tex Mex.

I love this place! The restaurant is clean and comfortable. Service is great. We were quickly seated and our orders taken. They brought out Chips, Salsa and Queso! Yummy! The food is really good. We had: Beef & Chicken Fajita Burrito covered with Queso and served with Beans and Rice! Chili Releno Stuffed with Taco Beef covered in Queso and served with Beans and Rice! Our meals was Hot and Very flavorful !

Oh, how I have such a nostalgic, beautiful feeling for this place. I was recently in Denton for a conference and stopped in. It stuck in my memory from the brief time that I lived there, and I'm so glad I did. Back then I was just out of my folks house, and on a night when I had "a little extra money," I had to go to this spot. A beer and some tacos. A step up from the fast food. Don't let my precious statement fool you. It's not expensive or fancy. However, it is so delicious. If you are familiar with Tex-Mex, it's that classic yellow cheese queso, refried beans and rice. In this instance, however, it's a spectacular mix of sodium and complex flavors. What stole the show for me was the brisket tacos (see my photos). Where post Tex-Mex inserts a BBQ taco or a poor imitation of a Birria Taco, this spot provides you a delicious lean beef almost swimming in au jous without being too wet (somehow). I cannot say enough for the flavor, either. If you are in Denton you may be tempted to hit the chains, or the heavily advertised El Matador, but drive past it for this place. You won't regret it!

Great little spot to get some delicious cheese enchiladas! We got there around dinner time and service was super fast. We got cheese enchiladas and the chicken flautas. The beans and rice were really tasty which is how I judge a Mexican food spot. The chicken flautas were a bit bland but I'd just get the enchiladas or the quesadillas because those are really good.

    Lunch Beef Fajitas

Mazatlan Restaurant is a wonderful hidden jewel nestled in Denton, Texas. The service and atmosphere were outstanding! Our waiter was very attentive and was quick to refill our drinks, chips, and salsa. I ordered lunch beef fajitas and was pleasantly surprised by the tender and delicious meat and flavorful pico and guacamole! This will definitely be on our restaurant rotation when we come to visit!

Everything we ordered was delicious. The guacamole tasted super fresh, the queso was flavorful and came in a generous portion, and the salsa had just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. The only small hiccup was the chips situation--they give you big portions of guac, queso, and salsa, but the chips come in a tiny bowl. (Literally 10 chips) very sad for 6 people to fight over so little of chips. Not a huge deal, just a bit surprising. We also tried the margaritas--they had great flavor, though they tasted absent of tequila. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back...maybe next time we bring our own chips! :)

If I could give La Fondita Mexican Restaurant six stars, I would legally change the rating system…read morejust to make it happen. Let me set the scene: I walked in expecting a casual meal and maybe a decent taco. What I got instead was a borderline spiritual awakening wrapped in foil and served with rice and beans. First of all -- the giant piña colada. When they say giant, they are not messing around. This thing arrived like it had its own gravitational pull. I'm pretty sure I saw a small family of tourists orbiting it. One sip and I was transported to a beach that doesn't even exist on any map -- coconutty, icy perfection with just enough kick to make me briefly consider texting my boss that I've moved to an island and won't be returning. Then came the beans. Listen carefully: I don't throw this word around lightly -- perfect. These beans were so good I genuinely paused mid-bite and just stared into the middle distance reevaluating my entire life. Creamy, rich, seasoned like someone's abuela whispered ancient secrets into the pot. I would trust these beans with my taxes, my passwords, and honestly my emotional well-being. And the corn tortillas... dear lord, the corn tortillas. I have had tortillas in many places, including at my own abuela's table -- and saying this feels like confessing a sin -- but these might be the best I've ever had besides abuela's. Warm, soft, slightly charred in all the right places, like they were handmade by someone who has been perfecting this craft since before I was born and possibly before electricity was invented. If I could build a house out of these tortillas, I would. I would live there. Happily. And then--just when I thought things couldn't escalate further--the huevos rancheros arrived. Eggs cooked to that perfect sweet spot where the yolk still has a little rebellion left in it, laid over a bed of everything that matters, all tied together with a sauce that refuses to be anything less than unforgettable. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you question why you ever settle for anything less in life. Comforting, bold, and somehow both rustic and wildly impressive at the same time. Everything else on the plate? Outstanding. Rice that actually deserves to be eaten and not just politely ignored. Salsa that sneaks up on you like, "oh this is nice--OH okay there it is." Service? Friendly, fast, and somehow emotionally supportive. Atmosphere? The kind of place where you immediately feel like a regular even if it's your first time. Final verdict: If you are anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Denton and you are not eating at La Fondita Mexican Restaurant, you are making a series of deeply questionable life choices. I came in hungry. I left changed.

My server was doubling as the door guy but what surprised me was that there wasn't another soul in the restaurant at 12:15 on a Friday afternoon. They have a wide open space for seating which to me might potentially get loud if it was busy, but with just me in the place it was quiet. I didn't feel any bad vibes at all from the place. I just happened to drive over while I was waiting for my number to be called at the tax office down the street. Luckily the service was speedy and fast. Cheese enchilada with carne and a hard ground beef taco are my go-to at any restaurant. The enchilada was fine, but the taco really underwhelmed me. Felt like I could make a similar flavor with ground beef and a packet of taco seasoning at home. I will say the shell was well-done to be fair it had a nice and light crispiness to it. Price vs food quality I'd say a smidge on the high side. I did the pick 2 for $13 whereas I felt like it should have been in the $10 range. But new place and new building I can understand if the price point needed to be higher. The menu did have a lot of other meals that I might have been willing to try if not pressed for time. Last thing I wanted to do was miss my number being called a the tax office. So speed-wise also great at this place. I got a couple refills of tea and a to go cup from the waiter and it was much appreciated. It wasn't the service here, nor the location I think. It is the food that probably needs to improve some. I left a $20 which was more than enough for the plate and tea and for the waiter who wasn't at fault at this place.

We have grown especially fond of their fajitas. They are always excellent. We couldn't decide which was better, the beef or the chicken, so now we always have the combo plate. We stopped in again last evening. Their window tint is so dark we weren't sure if they were open. Thankfully they were. Jesus, one of the three family's brothers, made certain we had everything we wanted throughout the evening. His parents, Jose and Mrs. Ocampo, came out to make sure we'd had a good meal. We now have added their street tacos to a growing list of favorites. And their margarita puts those served by the Brothers competitors to shame. Rich in flavor and just potent enough to make you savor every sip. They said they're launching a new weekend morning brunch. You can be certain we'll be there to try it.
