We had a very good meal at Villa Grande. The service was very good, fast and friendly. My wife and I ordered the large margaritas to start. They are pretty huge so a small would have been fine. She got the frozen, I got the house. Both were good. The chips and salsa were the only let down of the meal. The chips were thin and lacked salt. The salsa was pretty bland, heavy on tomato and no spice/heat. My wife had the tamale dinner. This was two moderate sized tamales that she thinks was beef but wasn't sure. They were covered with chile con carne. She liked them. I got the shrimp tacos on corn tortillas. This was 4 small tacos. They were good but I thought the cheese, spinach and chipotle sauce overwhelmed the shrimp. The avocado sauce on the side was very good and had some spice. The charro beans were excellent, very soupy and flavorful. We finished with an order of flan. It had a great flavor but the texture was a little firm, could have been more creamy. It was big serving, plenty for 2 to share. Our bill was about $60, which was reasonable for the meal. We don't live in Denton so can't compare to other places but we liked our meal. Good choice if you're looking for Tex-Mex in Denton. read more

This is a solid Tex-Mex choice and is starting to become my local go-to spot. In my last visit, I ordered the steak fajitas and they were cooked perfectly. You could tell that the meat was marinated correctly and the the texture was juicy and tender. I've had tough fajita meat too many times at other restaurants, so I really appreciate that they do it well here. The interior of the place is nice as well. Not a bad place to take the family once you are done shopping in the area. Not the best Mexican food in Denton (of course that will always be a debatable topic on who is the best), but a very solid choice with good food. I saw that this place had some poor reviews based on the service but my server was great. That's just how it is in the restaurant biz. read more

Beautiful restaurant- I have gotten to go orders multiple times and sat in once. The staff is always super friendly. Our waiter on the date we dined in was fantastic. Visited Villa Grande and was expecting the same hospitality and great food as Decatur location offers but was very disappointed. Our server seemed very pushy with taking our order and had an attitude or must've been having a bad day. We still stayed and ate but the experience wasn't good overall. We went to Villa Grande on 1/5/26 at about 1115am. The Restaurant was nearly empty - only noticed 1 other occupied table. The host sat us at the worst table trifecta next to the restrooms, kitchen doors, and drinks station which is a huge distraction in a near empty quiet restaurant. I chose to not complain but couldn't help but constantly observe my immediate surroundings. It overshadowed the meal which was fine. Couldn't help but wonder why restaurants do that? They must know it a huge negative for diners. We've always had a good experience with good food and service at Villa Grande. I understand that someone has to sit at these tables but this was unnecessary and the seating felt personal. Villa Grande, you can do better. It will probably be a while before I go back and I will resume speaking up when issues such as problematic seating arise. read more

The assistant manager and manager both came over and asked us for proof of disability, what disability the service dog was for and for certification of her status as a service dog. All of these are illegal to ask for. We said very politely what task she performs and that she does the task to aide in a disability (what we are legally required to say). They continued to ask for documentation and say that our dog, who was sitting and even doing her task during the conversation, was not acting like a service dog- stating that other patrons have admitted to their dogs not being service dogs before. They then told us that the dog made other patrons uncomfortable. We asked if someone had said something. They said no but that they would. Then they said that they would rush to get our food out so we could leave. The manager continued to say that we weren't being honest and that she was not a service dog for about 5 minutes (not exaggerating). Sometime during this interaction the assistant manager researched the laws, came back, and apologized but they caused a scene and verbally berated us long enough for other customers to get upset at them for how they handled it. If the service dog was out of control, roaming, barking, or even pacing, I could understand their concern. But they came over when she was laying down. We stayed only because the assistant manager apologized. read more

I did not get a chance to try the food. I went in on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. We were sat outside as requested and were the only party out there. After about 5 mins chips and salsa were brought to the party. After about 10 or so mins the server never returned or let alone brought water to the table. Please not that it was in August and was super hot outside. Water should've been the first thing to arrive. After seating there for what seemed about 20 mins we decided to get up and leave. This was my first, and most likely last visit to Villa Grande. I walked in and there was no wait. I was greeted and seated immediately. That's where the promptness ended. There was a couple that walked in shortly after me. While I sat at my table for over 15 minutes without anyone coming to my table, that couple that walked in behind me already had drinks, chips, salsa and their food orders taken. I was growing frustrated and about to get up and walk out, then a server came and asked me if I knew what I wanted to eat. I told her I was still waiting to order drinks. She said "ok, what do you want then?", she then took our drink order and food order at the same time. She left without taking the menus or leaving us utensils. Several minutes later, a man dropped off chips and salsa to our table. I'm not a fan of their salsa, I thought it was very bland. Needed some spice, salt, lime, or something. Their chips were also cold. They taste as if they came right out of the bag. Our server delivered our food to the table within 10 minutes, and that was literally the last time I saw her. She never came back.... Not Even Joking!!! No one came by to see if we needed anything, or refill our drinks. I waved down the hostess and asked for utensils so we could eat and asked her to take the menus that were still on our table. My veggie burritos were less than desirable. They had absolutely no seasoning and were literally cooked frozen veggies on a flour tortilla... no rice, no beans, no cheese, and no sauce inside. I had to wave down the manager to ask for some salsa to put on my burritos because they were dry and flavorless. When we were done eating, I waited a very long time for someone to bring me my check. No one ever came. So I put my credit card on the edge of the table, after some additional waiting, some random guy walked by and grabbed it. He said "I'll charge your card now". I never saw my bill before he took my card. He came back with a merchant slip for me to sign and thanked me for coming. Overall, I was very, very disappointed in my visit. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant was very nice and there is so much potential here, so I don't know how the ball was dropped on me. I definitely cannot recommend Ville Grande. After my poor experience, I don't think I'd ever come back. What a shame! read more

We have been here many times and 4 out of the 5 times the service is terrible. This is probably are last visit. Even before we came we said hey you want to go to the Mexican place by Sam's that always has bad service. Well we did and same issues. 5-8 minutes to get chips and salsa. Another 10-12 minutes to get anyone to come back and refill chips and drinks. Not sure where the manager is at this place. Think I spotted him rolling silverware napkins. Food is great, but when service is bad it ruins the whole place. read more

First time and wasn't sure about since it's in a shopping center but I was pleasantly surprised! When you walk in it has very traditional Mexican decor which was fantastic, the decorator did an amazing job at making the restaurant feel very inviting as well as traditional with Mexicano music!! I say this because I am finding many establishments have done away with the music and I very much appreciate! Small considerations make a huge difference for me and I love the ambience and atmosphere that music makes.. We were immediately greeted and our drink orders were taken the chips and salsa were brought immediately and they were wonderful there is a hotter salsa by request if one prefers! I ordered the Pollo con Crema 8.99 Tender Strips of Grilled Chicken Covered in a Creamy Poblano Sauce. Served with Refried Beans and Rice. It was so so good and the portion was huge! The sauce was perfectly spiced and creamy but not too thick - The fresh flour tortillas and they were so good hot off the grill and clearly homemade!! Yum!! read more

We've given this restaurant three chances, but unfortunately, we won't be back. Each visit we had the same server, and it was clear the service issues we experienced were specific to her and not reflective of the entire staff. The first time, we waited quite a while before even being greeted. Another server, who was managing a large 15-top along with other tables, noticed and kindly got us started with drinks--something our own server should have done. As for the food, it's just not up to par. On our first visit, I tried the Grande Relleno. It wasn't a traditional chile relleno but a strange, unbalanced version with overly spicy parts, bland meat, and no cohesive flavor. The second time, I ordered the Carne Asada and enchilada, which tasted oddly sweet, like someone had accidentally added sugar. On the third visit, I went with tacos, but the meat was dry and completely flavorless. Overall, the food ranged from "meh" to outright bad. Service was another issue. On all three visits, our server never pre-bussed the table--even when we stacked plates for her and asked for them to be cleared. She simply said she was busy and that someone else would take care of it. Ultimately, another server--who was already juggling other tables--stepped in to clear our plates and apologized for the inconvenience. For the price, the food and service simply don't justify the expense. While we've seen some hard-working staff members here, the overall experience has been consistently disappointing. We'll be looking elsewhere for good Mexican food. read more

Beware when ordering! My daughter and grandchildren and I stopped in for dinner tonight.. she always gets the chicken chimichanga. I decided I wanted the beef fajita chimichanga. So when we placed the order she decided to try the beef FAJITA as well! We ordered the kids fajita for my granddaughter. Needless to say when we got our food both of our chimichangas were ground beef-not fajita meat. ( keep in mind no where does it say ground beef). My daughter just asked for the chicken as a replacement. Disappointing. My granddaughters 8$ plate came with 4 little pieces of meat sour cream and enough rice and beans for all of us-NO cheese..we asked the waitress where the cheese was and she said it didn't come with it (I'm sorry what??) it's fajitas!!!then we kept having to ask her and it took her over 20 minutes to bring the cheese and by then she was full. When we got the bill lo and behold charges for the sour cream and cheese!!! But when we ordered the waitress said it came with sour cream.. petty. Zero stars Never coming back. Normally, I love Villa Grande and feel it is one of the better Tex-Mex options in the area. I knocked off a star as my last visit was disappointing as service slow and even worse the food just wasn't great. My wife ordered a chimichangas that came out more like a burrito as they forgot to fry it. We would have sent it back, but the service was so slow. The food was so bad that it would make me not return. However, this is not the norm, so I will go back and give it one more try. I will update my review upon my next visit. read more

Since moving to the Denton area have been trying multiple Mexican and Tex-Mex restaurants to find something that can contend for being our regular go-to location. After this visit, I believe we have found a contender. This restaurant hit the right notes for ambiance, service and food. It looks good and was nice and clean. Service was attentive and consistent. Most important the food was excellent. Beginning with the chips and salsa, we were pleased. Salsa is one of those with nice chunks of tomato and onion with good spice but not a lot of heat. For the main courses we had Brisket Platillo (brisket taco, brisket enchilada, brisket quesadilla) and Spinach Enchiladas. Brisket was flavorful and lean with the right amount of sauce. The accompanying rice was good as were the refried beans. And a small salad on the plate was a nice touch. The spinach enchiladas were fresh with the spinach cooked just right and still green. Again well sauced. They came with Charro Beans which I highly recommend. The only strong negative was the Chile con Queso, which lacked much flavor and felt like a bad version of rotel dip. I suggest staying away from that. Minor negative for the glass of Sangria. The beverage itself was okay, but served in a small wine glass with ice meant very little beverage for the price. Suggestion is either serve the Sangria without ice in the wine glass, or serve it with ice in a tall beverage glass. Good experience overall. Gets 4 instead of 5 for the two things that kept it from being perfect read more

I've been wanting to try their Denton location for a good while and finally we had an opportunity to try it. We were in a bit of a rush and came on a Monday night but we were seated, dined and had the check paid within 40 mins which was great. I prefer tortilla chips warm which theirs were not but they were still pretty good. If my wife likes the salsa at a restaurant then I usually don't which was the case here. My wife loved it, I thought it lacked heat but it was ok. We also ordered their queso, it was pretty good but wasn't particularly great either. One of the reasons I like Villa Grande is that their menu is a bit different from most other mexican restaurants. It's been a very long time since I had been to any Villa Grande location so their menu looked a lot different than what I remember it. I tried the Camarones Monterrey, 6 jumbo shrimp wrapped in bacon with steamed veggies, rice and charro beans. There's also a good shrimp cocktail sauce with some heat that I really liked. The shrimp was really flavorful and they were big! I was quite full after the meal even though I didn't eat the rice. I really like that they serve with steamed veggies so you can be a bit healthy at least. We didn't have a chance to try their dessert but hopefully next time we'll have time to try it out. The service was really good throughout, we didn't have to wait long for anything. I feel it's like a 3.5, I will try a different dish next time and see if they deliver consistently. read more

The enchilada comes topped chilli con carne which was pretty good. I liked the Mangoneade drink, but the tamarind straw was my favorite part. It is messy and sticky so get ready. I wasn't overly impressed with service or the chips and salsa. There were only a few tables (5:30 on a Thursday) and service took a bit to greet us and get orders. The server passing around chips and salsa was very attentive, but I wasn't fond of the salsa. I think it could use more flavor. There was a mix up with drinks where we ordered all regulars, but received and were charged larges. We didn't bother correcting it because we couldn't catch our server and it got super busy and crowded.
