Just left Chuy's in Denton and immediately remembered exactly why I became a fan in the first place. We started things off right with chips, jalapeño ranch dip, and queso, which is honestly the only proper way to begin a Chuy's visit. The queso was warm, creamy, and exactly what my soul needed, and the chips with that jalapeño ranch were the cherry on top. Speaking of cherries, we also got the Tito's cherry limeade, and it was the spring we didn't know we needed to bounce. Crisp, cold, a little dangerous in the cutest way, and honestly adorable -- the perfect little kick to start the meal. Our waiter was top notch: kind, attentive, and somehow always there right when we needed something without ever hovering. That kind of service makes the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. For food, we ordered the Baja shrimp tacos, and when I say the shrimp is BIG, I mean it (and no, we're definitely not out here flattering any men ). The shrimp was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and absolutely the star of the plate. They came with rice and beans, and even though I forgot to ask for the cilantro lime rice , I was still super happy with everything. We also got the steak fajita Tex-Mex burrito bowl, and every single bite just kept getting better. The steak was tender, packed with flavor, and once it all got mixed together with the salsa and scooped up on the crispy tostada, it was perfection. Tve bartender was so great that it was a pleasure to sit in the bar. The food was delivered by another nice guy. I ate child and salsa while I waited but it was worth it. Whenever people gush about how much they LOOOOVE Chuy's I automatically assume that they are not referring to this location. I don't doubt that the original restaurant was spectacular, otherwise it would not have expanded to become a chain, but I believe that this one is quite far removed from it's origin. A copy of a copy of a copy is actually what comes to mind, and we all know what happens in that scenario! The menu has all the usual suspects of any Tex-Mex establishment worth it's salt, like enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, etc., including a couple of stand out items like the "Big As Yo' Face Burrito" and "The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo". They also provide a jalapeno ranch dip along with a tomato based salsa (which is more like pico) to accompany their super thin chips. But, these slight deviations from the norm just don't make up for the general mediocrity that is the majority of their food. There are no memorable, unique or even spicy flavors to be found anywhere. For example, the very hottest salsa they offer is made with hatch green chiles which barely register on the Scoville scale they're so mild. I don't want to imply that anything has ever been particularly unsatisfactory, but at the same time there is nothing that would compel me to return. With the Tex-Mex restaurant market being so saturated and competitive around here I am genuinely perplexed as to why this place is so popular. read more

I'm from California, and I was really looking forward to trying this place after hearing about it for years. Finally got a chance to try it with my boyfriend and his family. It was a total disappointment. The grilled chicken and steak was tasteless, and the food wasn't presentable at all. I think it's one of the worst Mexican food places I've tried in a long time. I'd rather eat at Taco Bell rather than go back to this place. I have no idea how they're staying in business serving food that has no good taste or quality. I love Chuys creamy jalapeño sauce. It is always good!! The salsa and queso are good and fresh as well. I've had the Mexi-Cobb salad and it's always good and a "healthier" option. I enjoy the taco and enchilada combo but prefer the boom boom sauce over the tex mex sauce. All in all it's a good stop for Mexican. Since the parking lot of almost full, I was not surprised when the hostess area was full of folks waiting for a table. Fortunately, the bar was only half seated. As soon as I sat myself, one of the two bartenders asked me what I wanted to drink. When I asked for the food menu, the specials menu was not specifically pointed out. Luckily, I did notice it and ordered the Macho Burrito. While waiting for my food, both bartenders asked a couple times if I wanted any chips and salsa. Fortunately, I knew better than to get any. There was plenty of burrito on the plate and I enjoyed every bite of it. I wished there was more of the Hatch Green Chile & Tomatillo Sauce; although I did enjoy the amount provided. We started with their delicious chips and queso as well as the jalapeno cream dip - yum yum. Their chips are so thin and crispy but still hold up to the weight of the queso. Our ordered a mix of tacos and quesadillas. My tacos al carbon were slightly overcooked in that it was a bit hard to pull the meat apart with my teeth to tear off a bite of the taco, but still very tasty especially when I added some of the jalapeno cream sauce to it. We were too full to partake in tres leches cake but that just means we'll come back next time! First day back in town and of course, I had to get me some Tex Mex. I had a late lunch so not many people there. It was a pretty day so decided to sit on their spacious patio. Complimentary chips and salsa were immediately brought to the table along with packaged utensils that noted they'd be sanitized. I thought this was a nice touch! I ordered a lime margarita with a patron shot floater, which was very good. The tacos al carbon with fajita chicken were what I decided to go with for food. It came with rice and refried beans. I loved the flavors of my meal. The only change I would have made was to the tortillas they came with. They were super thick. I got through half of one of my tacos before deciding to just eat the filling alone. If I wasn't driving, I would have gotten another margarita. The service at Chuy's was great. The food is decent. The steak fajita nachos are good. The jalapeño ranch dip is addictive. Sound carries throughout the restaurant. it's incredibly loud. The bar is actually the best location if you want to be able to hear conversations at the opposite end of your table.. I reserved a table in a back (quiter) area for a large group. We asked for some house salsa and our waitress Lexi was rude and said they don't have another salsa, then proceeded to ask if we're sure it wasn't queso or a different location. Stopped here tonight on the way back from Oklahoma and I have to say, I am very glad I did. Marianna was our server and she was amazing. From the moment we arrived, we were treated very well and we're attended to with superb perfection. She was very personable and extremely sweet. Chuys is so good but I would recommend going to a different location. This is the 4th year I have ordered an entire Tres Leches for a birthday party (normally I get it from Fort Worth) we get to the party and open it up and it's so burnt the edges and the bottom are BLACK and its super dry. The manager ends up sending me a "dinner for two" to replace the $80 cake. I order Togo and use the coupon and my total is LESS than the cost of the cake (1 app, 2 meals and 1 dessert - which is what I would consider dinner for two") and they won't even take care of the entire bill, even after I explained the situation with the MOD and she still charges me $18. Got seated with no issues. Our queso was good but our food came out cold. The cheese in the inside of the beef burrito wasn't even melted. My daughters got chicken enchiladas but they ended up getting horrible stomachaches about 3 hours later. Saying this because they had not eating anything else prior to this lunch (because we were looking forward to this) and nothing after because of their stomach pains. The waitresses were nice. We sent the beef burritos back but it came back 2/3 of the size of the previous one... it looked like they took everything out of the previous burrito and put it in another burrito but lost some of the beef so they put it in a smaller tortilla. I thought they could not reserve previously touched food, but that may not be true. We love Chuy's for years and years, but this was not my favorite visit. It's the only one in Denton but I may drive further to get to another one next time. read more
