Just left Chuy's in Denton and immediately remembered exactly why I became a fan in the first place. We started things off right with chips, jalapeño ranch dip, and queso, which is honestly the only proper way to begin a Chuy's visit. The queso was warm, creamy, and exactly what my soul needed, and the chips with that jalapeño ranch were the cherry on top. Speaking of cherries, we also got the Tito's cherry limeade, and it was the spring we didn't know we needed to bounce. Crisp, cold, a little dangerous in the cutest way, and honestly adorable -- the perfect little kick to start the meal. Our waiter was top notch: kind, attentive, and somehow always there right when we needed something without ever hovering. That kind of service makes the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. For food, we ordered the Baja shrimp tacos, and when I say the shrimp is BIG, I mean it (and no, we're definitely not out here flattering any men ). The shrimp was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and absolutely the star of the plate. They came with rice and beans, and even though I forgot to ask for the cilantro lime rice , I was still super happy with everything. We also got the steak fajita Tex-Mex burrito bowl, and every single bite just kept getting better. The steak was tender, packed with flavor, and once it all got mixed together with the salsa and scooped up on the crispy tostada, it was perfection. I'm from California, and I was really looking forward to trying this place after hearing about it for years. Finally got a chance to try it with my boyfriend and his family. It was a total disappointment. The grilled chicken and steak was tasteless, and the food wasn't presentable at all. I think it's one of the worst Mexican food places I've tried in a long time. I'd rather eat at Taco Bell rather than go back to this place. I have no idea how they're staying in business serving food that has no good taste or quality. Whenever people gush about how much they LOOOOVE Chuy's I automatically assume that they are not referring to this location. I don't doubt that the original restaurant was spectacular, otherwise it would not have expanded to become a chain, but I believe that this one is quite far removed from it's origin. A copy of a copy of a copy is actually what comes to mind, and we all know what happens in that scenario! The menu has all the usual suspects of any Tex-Mex establishment worth it's salt, like enchiladas, tacos, fajitas, etc., including a couple of stand out items like the "Big As Yo' Face Burrito" and "The Elvis Presley Memorial Combo". They also provide a jalapeno ranch dip along with a tomato based salsa (which is more like pico) to accompany their super thin chips. But, these slight deviations from the norm just don't make up for the general mediocrity that is the majority of their food. There are no memorable, unique or even spicy flavors to be found anywhere. For example, the very hottest salsa they offer is made with hatch green chiles which barely register on the Scoville scale they're so mild. I don't want to imply that anything has ever been particularly unsatisfactory, but at the same time there is nothing that would compel me to return. With the Tex-Mex restaurant market being so saturated and competitive around here I am genuinely perplexed as to why this place is so popular. read more

Since the parking lot of almost full, I was not surprised when the hostess area was full of folks waiting for a table. Fortunately, the bar was only half seated. As soon as I sat myself, one of the two bartenders asked me what I wanted to drink. When I asked for the food menu, the specials menu was not specifically pointed out. Oh, how I miss Chuy's! This is real Tex Mex. On a hot, hot day, the dining room full of tile and hubcaps was a restful respite from our car. We started with their delicious chips and queso as well as the jalapeno cream dip - yum yum. Their chips are so thin and crispy but still hold up to the weight of the queso. Our ordered a mix of tacos and quesadillas. My tacos al carbon were slightly overcooked in that it was a bit hard to pull the meat apart with my teeth to tear off a bite of the taco, but still very tasty especially when I added some of the jalapeno cream sauce to it. We were too full to partake in tres leches cake but that just means we'll come back next time! Waited forever just to get bathroom paper towels to clean up the water spilled on our table. Then waited forever to get some queso with chips. And while waiting, everyone around us got seated and ordered and served! Then waited even longer to order food just for our waitress to come back several minutes later to tell us they're out of certain things and did we want to order something else or what! We said no because we had other places to be and our guests with us were traveling and we had already been there for nearly 2 hours! We just had water and tea and one person had one beer and those even took forever to get to us! I went to the Denton Chuy's location tonight with my daughter who is in college, attempting to lift a mood between us and simply seeking a pleasant evening. Her pick was Chuy's and we always go to Southlake location, but this one in Denton was closer, so we tried it for the first time. OMG the waitress was a total dingbat! We ordered, but what we received was not what we ordered. We were confused. The waitress told us she was trying to save us $4. We were both baffled and then she said don't worry a half order was in its way, but we were still totally confused...while I appreciate her trying to save us $4, I have other stressful concerns in my mind than saving $4 at dinner...When I asked the waitress, if you were going to change our order, why didn't you just ask us first, "would you like this instead?" And her story got stranger as she tried to explain "I was going to loose either way"...WTF? How are you going to loose by giving us exactly what we ordered versus changing our order without telling us??? She made our bad situation for seeking a pleasant dinner at Chuy's far worse. Maybe under different and less stressful circumstances it would have been ok, and maybe I'm being too hard, but this is such a simple thing and destroyed my Friday evening that I cannot get back...We didn't eat and immediately asked for the ticket and left...Needless to say, I will never return to this Chuy's location in Denton....And it's pretty much ruined my whole Chuy's experience for the "far" foreseeable future...Lesson learned, communicate with your customers; especially if you are going to change their order! Love!! I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. Absolutely love their chips with jalapeño ranch dip... everyone at the table does but hubby loves the salsa the most. They are social distancing which is great. I got the taco salad, hubby got enchiladas, kids enchilada and kids mini burrito. Chuys is so good but I would recommend going to a different location. This is the 4th year I have ordered an entire Tres Leches for a birthday party (normally I get it from Fort Worth) we get to the party and open it up and it's so burnt the edges and the bottom are BLACK and its super dry. The manager ends up sending me a "dinner for two" to replace the $80 cake. I order Togo and use the coupon and my total is LESS than the cost of the cake (1 app, 2 meals and 1 dessert - which is what I would consider dinner for two") and they won't even take care of the entire bill, even after I explained the situation with the MOD and she still charges me $18.
