We love the Rusty Taco! Every time we come up to Denton we end up here instead of trying somewhere new. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is delicious! We love their spicy queso! And even though we knew we didn't NEED a third taco each, we decided that we did! LOL We do wish that the dining area was a little better lit with more seating options. Lots of large tables, and not everyone wants to make new friends at dinner. Also, they could use another trash can or two. Once I did that, I waited a couple minutes and walked inside and sat patiently and waited while my order was ready... They knew I was there. I told him I was there early for the name and they gave me my cup for a drink. I went to go fill it and as I was my food was ready so it took maybe 15 minutes but the fact they saw me out to bring me my food instead of they saw me when I went front just says it all to me... they wanted me to have a good experience. There are many good taco places in Denton, and I hoped to add this to my go to list, but not sure if I'll be back. The tacos were very small for $3.5+. The meats didn't have much flavor to them. Located by a public parking lot, others probably made a similar last minute decision to dine here. Quickly scanning the menu, I decided on the two marked local faves: Green Street Taco and Club Pollo Taco. From conversations with the previous customer, I knew the cashier started recently. I can give leeway for her forgetting to ask if I wanted grilled or crispy chicken on the Club Pollo. The experienced employee assisting her on the register should have asked me when she had forgotten. Once I had gotten my order, I discovered crispy was chosen. The Club Pollo was the least favorite of the two. The crispness of the chicken overwhelmed the flavor, so I may have enjoyed the taco more if it had been grilled chicken. Although I liked the Green Street Taco, the avocado seemed to be an afterthought in the manner it was placed in the taco. Fortunately, I did not order one taco. Neither alone would have satisfied me for lunch. As I skipped on the chips and salsa, I may have been able to eaten a third. read more

Just left here about 20 minutes ago. A little lighter in my pockets...$26.30 lighter. And very, very upset. Theie register accepted my payment and somehow they say it did not go through. After several tries...the transaction kept saying "duplicate". I checked my account which shows the payment pending. The "key holder" Hector said since its pending on my account that means it did not go through and tomorrow the payment will reverse. Hector called the GM, Jamie Salinas, spoke to him in spanish, and responded that they both agree the payment did not go through. Jamie and Hector are not that smart. I tried, unsuccessfully, to tell Hector, that is how transactions work...I use my debit card, if there is money there, it will be debited from my account and the bank will in turn pay the business. He was too inept to understand. Long story short, I am sure I am being called Karen or something else unflattering, but I am wise enough to know how banking works. Anyway...Rusty Taco stole $26.30 from me tonight and I will FOREVER share the story of how I was maligned, inconvenienced and hungry. How could Hector, the key holder, have made this better...APOLOGIZE for the inconvenience and give me the food I paid for. I cannot believe anyone could be as uniformed as the people in that restaurant. And the young lady who called me a liar for telling little Hector that him speaking spanish to Jamie while describing the issue with the card was rude. She errantly interjected. I told her I was not talking her. Was there a scene - yes! Did I give them the tongue lashing they deserved without cursing - Absolutely! Rusty Taco - you stole from me. I will never forget how I was treated and made to feel due to an error on your part. And little hector said this happens from time to time...Really, you all steal from your customers like this frequently. Maybe you should fix your registers and get some key holders and cashiers that know what they are doing. Oh and they begin only taking cash after that. I've been here 2-3 times and it's only because I always forget about it because it's located away from the Denton square. I've had brisket tacos, breakfast tacos, and their chips and queso and all was flavored well, nothing stands out nonetheless tasty fresh food. Clean establishment, friendly employees, but bathrooms need a little work (faucet runs). Definitely somewhere we usually go when we are walking around playing POGO. Check it out. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, just a block or so off the square so it's in a pretty convenient location. It seems like it's popular with college students, seemed like there were quite a few. It's pretty simple, you just order at the counter and they tell you when your food is ready. They have a pretty large patio which I can imagine is popular this time of the year and they have plenty of space indoors. I wanted to try a few different taco's, they are pretty small so you can definitely eat 2-3 easy. Their #3 steak fajita was OK but wasn't as tender as I would have liked it. The #5 brisket taco was quite good, it had really good flavor. The #3 roasted pork was my favorite, it had really good flavor. The tortillas were just OK. They serve breakfast taco's all day as well, it was a little difficult to decide between breakfast taco's and "regular" tacos. They didn't seem that busy but it took a good 15 mins before I received my food. read more

This is a neat little taco place. It's on the end of the building so it provides both indoor and outdoor covered seating. Space is a little limited but people were coming and going fairly quickly so after about 5 mins we found a table that opened up. Ordering is a la carte which allows you to mix and match different tacos. You order when you come in and a staff member calls out your name over an intercom to come pick up your food. The wait was less than 5 minutes for our tacos. We tried the chicken fajita, fish, beef fajita and the uptown. The chicken fajita was a little bland, but the rest were very tasty. The beef fajita was my favorite. They have a good selection of drinks both kid friendly and adult. Will definitely go back. read more

I've been coming here for 10 years and I've never had as bad of an experience as I did this evening. One half of our party ordered tacos around 7:30 pm. It is Margarita Monday so we just assumed their order wasn't out yet because of how busy it was. Finally at 7:50 pm I went to the counter to ask about the order. They then pulled it out of the heater reserved for to-go orders. Upon asking for a refund or comp, I was passively told I can be given free chips and queso. Fine - I'll take it. Stuff happens as I know all too well having worked in food service for years myself. Then I got the order to the table and we discovered tacos that were not supposed to have onions in fact did have onions. When I took the receipt up to the register to get those remade and a refund, the single associate who can work the register argued with me and amongst the kitchen staff for about two minutes. They finally remade the tacos. But I was then told by that same associate he would call someone and it would be refunded in 3-4 days. He offered no receipt, no proof of this happening. So I stood for another 10 minutes while he finally did his job and made the refund happen. To be honest, this place has damn good food for the prices. But this is the absolute worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The establishment has been going downhill since the newest owner took over a year or so ago in terms of customer service. It's infuriating to see one of the town's core restaurants be so bad. read more

I used to be a big fan of this place, but it seems like it's going downhill a little bit. I just ordered fish tacos for take-out today, and the fish was cooked to the point of having the consistency of rubber. The fish was also absolutely tasteless, like it had been frozen a long time. Their shrimp tacos are usually pretty good, so I may give the place one more try. I think they also need to step up their cleaning game. My little sister & I found this spot after a BETO event at the civic center on Wednesday, and it was a great way to end the day. The tacos just weren't as good as Torchy's. I'm a vegetarian, and I base everything on their fried avocado taco-Which is why I didn't give this place a higher rating. BUT- Ms. Janice, was on duty and she was AMAZING!!!!! She gave us a full run down of the menu (this was our first time) and even offered us a sample of the margaritas, after checking our ID's of course. By far, this was the worst of the Rusty Taco locations- and we have been to almost all of them. We stopped by on a Friday night around 8pm and it was just GROSS. The staff is all college-aged kids, but they don't seem to know how to clean up at all. Tables were sticky and not wiped down. Floors too. The trash hadn't been taken out and anytime one of the staff threw something in, it landed on the flood instead. One of the girls working was "wiping" down the trays with a dirty cloth. This would be a super cool location (it has nice outdoor seating and is open late) but to us, its not worth going to if they cant keep it clean. We took the food to go rather than eating on the dirty tables and trays. I can say my husband's crispy shrimp tacos were not crispy at all- we ate them right away so there is no reason they should have been soggy. My brisket tacos were very greasy and actually fatty. The girl behind the counter was a mess. Her shirt looked like it hadn't been washed in days and we later found out why. She took out order without really caring whether we ate there or not. We got our food and we're short two tacos so had to engage the behind the house staff to get them. I noticed the entire place was a bit dirty. Food was great but while we were eating it, the girl at the front who had handled our drinks went to wipe some tables with a little bucket of stuff. She then rolled some carpets and asked some customers to wait while she rolled a few more rugs. She then returned to the counter but rather than wash her hands, dipped them in the little red bucket of cleaning solution and wiped them on her shirt. Yuck! Made me wonder if the entire place is similarly nasty. Will not eat here again. read more

If you are looking for a quick bite to eat that is delicious and reasonably priced-- GO HERE!! I hate when I pay too much for tacos. These tacos were comparable to higher priced places like Torchy's and Fuzzy's but tasted better in my opinion. The guac was fresh and the chips were hot and toasty! I got the breakfast potato egg and cheese taco and the chicken fajita taco-- both delicious. The salsas were also great and the place is very clean. Horrible service by the girl who works the register. I've been managing in the service industry for years and was not impressed. Her attitude was horrible. Luckily the manager Rebecca was willing to listen and gave an apology when we explained how we were upset because we found saran wrap in our food and just wanted it simply remade. I love Fuzzy's and everyone compares this place to it, so while checking out UNT we decided to give it a go. Tried a fish taco, the rusty taco (pulled pork) and black beans. The smallest amount of fish on a taco I've ever seen. Absolutely no flavor and the corn tortillas weren't even warm. Made for a complete rubbery exterior, so I just ate the inside slaw. The rusty taco, while it had a nice kick of heat, was absolutely nothing special. I left most of it. The black beans were ok, although the sunflower seeds mixed in were weird. Fuzzy's is so much better. The employees here are loud and annoying and you can't speak because they yell at each other. Won't be back. read more
