the food is of a mid quality. the tortillas are not authentic ingredients are basic. drinks not special.

More filth

Spider webs in the eating area, completely filthy. Where are the health inspectors. Hard beans that must have been setting all day. Does anyone want to work anymore and take pride in anything. This was absolutely disgusting.

So many choices to choose from. Perfect place to get fulfilling food if you're on a low carb/keto diet. Monster bowl is a huge portion that can make 2-3 meals out of it. They also offer low carb tortillas which is great. Flavorful meat and have some good selection of sauces. Burrito is GINORMOUS. Good service and you get your money's worth. I definitely prefer freebird over chipotle any day.

We came here during our pit stop. There are a decent amount of stores and restaurants in the area. A few of us opted for the Freebirds World Burrito and it did not disappoint. The service was fast and friendly. They have 3 types of tortillas (cayenne, regular, and whole wheat) that day. The burrito was big and filling. They didn't have quesadillas on the menu... it would be nice if they do. The interior was big with ample amount of seating.

So I'm a Freebirds fan from way back in the day. I used to live in College Station and frequented the Northgate location for years. I've also been to the other locations in College Station and Austin, it's always been consistent. The Freebird burrito is big and completely stuffed. Even with the changes other chains have made over the years, they are still in a league of their own. I do not consider other chains worthy of comparison. Now they do offer more than burritos- bowls, tacos, quesadillas, nachos and salads. However, being my favorite burrito, I rarely stray. The regular size is large enough for 2 meals in my opinion. When I'm not feeling like two burrito meals in a row, I would often get the Hybird, which is closer to a normal big burrito size at other places and still plenty of food. My husband likes to play man vs. food a lot so he would sometimes get the monster, which is ridiculously large. I've never actually been present when anyone has ordered a super monster so I can only assume it's ordered to feed small villages. They offer steak, carnitas, ground beef, chicken and veggie- all of which I've had over the years, but steak is always my go to. I think I saw a 'beyond meat' option which is more recent- a plant based protein mixed with potatoes and spices. I love their huge tortillas, flour and spinach being my favorite. Whole wheat and spicy cayenne are also available. I haven't had their cilantro lime rice because I've always liked their Spanish rice with refried beans (you can get whole or pinto beans as well). Cheese is included and they have a ton of sauces and toppings. The guacamole, queso and avocado are the only toppings that incur an upcharge. Kids meals are limited to burritos and quesadillas. You can get chips as a side, but I can't see that being necessary unless you are sharing a meal. The desserts include brownies, cookies and Magic Mallow Rice Krispy Treats. Needless to say, I was psyched when one opened in Denton and even had a couple of decent visits back when the lines were always out the door. These visits were not as good as the location I used to frequent and the staff was slow, but I figured that was normal (to an extent) in the first few months to a year. However, their consistency over time was just awful and I stopped giving them chances during the early part of summer in 2016 (pre Yelp for me). I got sick of old, hard rice and chewy steak and indifferent staff and never returned. Recently, I saw a really good review from a fellow Yelper which led me to their Yelp page and a multitude of recent, positive reviews. I deemed them worthy of another chance and my husband and I placed an order for delivery Sunday, late afternoon. I ordered a regular size since I was okay with leftovers, those run $8.75 but there is an upcharge for getting steak. My husband ordered a fajita steak quesadilla for $9.50. I also threw on a rice krispy treat for $2.25 The food was delivered lightning fast, way quicker than I expected (off to a good start)! I examined my burrito and it was well wrapped, the right size, nice and full and had no tears. I took a bite and moaned as it was exactly how I remembered it from back in the day. Unfortunately, several minutes later it was clear that there were some issues with this burrito. The sour cream was only on one end, what? A few of the steak pieces were complete fat, ew! Still, we are in 4 stars territory at this point, strays happen and everything tastes great. The biggest problem came with the pieces of old, rock hard rice mixed in with fresher rice. At first, it was a piece here and there. A third through there was a lot more. Somebody added an old crusty batch to the new stuff- not cool. This kept me from fully enjoying my burrito and diminished value as I no longer wanted to save the leftovers. The rice krispy treat was stale too. This place has a fairly small menu, they can't afford to let their ingredients get old or nasty. The brand has higher expectations than that and so do customers. Now I can read, I see the good reviews, so clearly this isn't an all the time thing. However, it's a consistency issue and it negatively impacted my enjoyment quite a bit. I know they can do better. Three stars since I see some improvement and my husband enjoyed his very large quesadilla. Minus 2 stars for inconsistency and besmirching my fond memories... again.

Table top art was very cool

My first trip to not just this location but this chain in general and I was very happy. I love the feel of the location and could quickly tell it had roots to Southern California by the vibe. From the music to the decor this place was very chill. Now let's talk about the food... three sizes of burritos or bowls for you to enjoy with an assembly style line of workers taking care of you. Brisket, carnitas, veggie, steak or chicken can be accompanied by rice, beans, veggies, cheese, sauces, sour cream, guacamole in any form and fashion you choose. The only thing I would have liked to have seen different would be a size chart or something to let me see what exactly I was getting into. I chose the freebies size which was the medium option and I could have gone with a smaller one in retrospect and had to take part of it home.

This is a DOUBLE meat chicken burrito. I don't see any chicken at all.
Richard S.

I really like their carnitas burrito. There are a lot of choices of meats, tempeh, veggies and sauces. I've had the seasoned chicken thigh meat and the carnitas burrito and my favorite is the carnitas. I choose not to take be and rice and ask for extra veggies instead. I've noticed that the burritos are a bit inconsistent. Sometimes the same order varies in size dramatically and sometimes it is very spicy and other times mild. Oh well, it adds variety I suppose so I don't need to worry about varying my order.

We came here with a group, and the whole setup worked really well for just sitting around, talking, and having a good time. I probably wouldn't come here absolutely starving though. A lot of the menu is smaller dishes and à la carte items, so it's more of a place to grab some food while you're having drinks and hanging out. I had the beef birria taco plate with rice and beans, and it was enough to fill me up, but I definitely wasn't stuffed afterward. The chips and salsa were really good. The salsa has a decent kick to it, but apparently not enough to slow me down because I went through two baskets of chips and two ramekins of salsa. Our server was great. She checked on us regularly, made sure we had everything we needed, and kept the drinks from sitting empty for long. The atmosphere was probably my favorite part. They have regular tables and chairs, but also couches and comfy chairs, so it's easy to settle in and stay awhile without feeling rushed. Overall, Wild Cactus is a great place for some drinks, good conversation, and a little food along the way. Just don't show up expecting a giant dinner.

If I could give La Fondita Mexican Restaurant six stars, I would legally change the rating system…read morejust to make it happen. Let me set the scene: I walked in expecting a casual meal and maybe a decent taco. What I got instead was a borderline spiritual awakening wrapped in foil and served with rice and beans. First of all -- the giant piña colada. When they say giant, they are not messing around. This thing arrived like it had its own gravitational pull. I'm pretty sure I saw a small family of tourists orbiting it. One sip and I was transported to a beach that doesn't even exist on any map -- coconutty, icy perfection with just enough kick to make me briefly consider texting my boss that I've moved to an island and won't be returning. Then came the beans. Listen carefully: I don't throw this word around lightly -- perfect. These beans were so good I genuinely paused mid-bite and just stared into the middle distance reevaluating my entire life. Creamy, rich, seasoned like someone's abuela whispered ancient secrets into the pot. I would trust these beans with my taxes, my passwords, and honestly my emotional well-being. And the corn tortillas... dear lord, the corn tortillas. I have had tortillas in many places, including at my own abuela's table -- and saying this feels like confessing a sin -- but these might be the best I've ever had besides abuela's. Warm, soft, slightly charred in all the right places, like they were handmade by someone who has been perfecting this craft since before I was born and possibly before electricity was invented. If I could build a house out of these tortillas, I would. I would live there. Happily. And then--just when I thought things couldn't escalate further--the huevos rancheros arrived. Eggs cooked to that perfect sweet spot where the yolk still has a little rebellion left in it, laid over a bed of everything that matters, all tied together with a sauce that refuses to be anything less than unforgettable. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you question why you ever settle for anything less in life. Comforting, bold, and somehow both rustic and wildly impressive at the same time. Everything else on the plate? Outstanding. Rice that actually deserves to be eaten and not just politely ignored. Salsa that sneaks up on you like, "oh this is nice--OH okay there it is." Service? Friendly, fast, and somehow emotionally supportive. Atmosphere? The kind of place where you immediately feel like a regular even if it's your first time. Final verdict: If you are anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Denton and you are not eating at La Fondita Mexican Restaurant, you are making a series of deeply questionable life choices. I came in hungry. I left changed.

We started things off right with chips, jalapeño ranch dip, and queso, which is honestly the only proper way to begin a Chuy's visit. The queso was warm, creamy, and exactly what my soul needed, and the chips with that jalapeño ranch were the cherry on top. Speaking of cherries, we also got the Tito's cherry limeade, and it was the spring we didn't know we needed to bounce. Crisp, cold, a little dangerous in the cutest way, and honestly adorable -- the perfect little kick to start the meal. Our waiter was top notch: kind, attentive, and somehow always there right when we needed something without ever hovering. That kind of service makes the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. For food, we ordered the Baja shrimp tacos, and when I say the shrimp is BIG, I mean it (and no, we're definitely not out here flattering any men ). The shrimp was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and absolutely the star of the plate. They came with rice and beans, and even though I forgot to ask for the cilantro lime rice , I was still super happy with everything. We also got the steak fajita Tex-Mex burrito bowl, and every single bite just kept getting better. The steak was tender, packed with flavor, and once it all got mixed together with the salsa and scooped up on the crispy tostada, it was perfection. This meal was such a good reminder of why Chuy's became a favorite for me in the first place -- fun atmosphere, great food, amazing service, and one of those dinners that just hits from the first chip to the last bite.
