Menudo: was a little to greasy for my liking and the flavor was not 100% there like it was missing flavor - it wasn't nasty or anything it was just missing something i can't pinpoint but I love the chucks of meat in it . Sope de chicharrón: it was good! Chicharrón was not the greatest but it was good. The salsa needs to be a little more spicier Taco de cabeza: the meat was actually good! But the taco was a ay too small for the price! Taco size is for like a baby ! Little baby tacos! Street tacos tortillas are small but these are XS !!! Either bigger tortillas for the price or make the tacos a little cheaper! Guanajuatense taco: it was good! The grilled onions needed to be grilled more and the meat was good! OMG! Having been brought up with fried cactus and eggs, Tijuana tacos, Olvera St. and East LA street tacos you have to bring your A game. Guanajuato brought it!!! We were going to another Mexican restaurant but when we arrived and learned they no longer serve cabeza we left. I wanted cabeza and lengua tacos and so we decided to walk to Guanajuato. A google map snafu and a 3 mile walk back to the truck and we drove into an older Hispanic lovely neighborhood. Kids playing outside and community members walking through the neighborhoods. Nestled in a small local market is Guanajuato. Walking in it's a tiny packed space and all the free space have tables for diners. The menu is in Spanish with English subtitles and the staff all speak Spanish. They were so nice and friendly. The gal took our order of cabeza, lengua, carnitas, and asada tacos with a small side of rice and beans. I adore good beans and love making them from scratch at home. The tacos were packed with meat cilantro and onions. The rice and beans were on a second plate. The beans were smooth, creamy, and seasoned perfectly. The tacos were served up with lemon wedges and 3 homemade sauces chili verde, Rojas, and a tomatillo cream sauce. The complemented the tasks with just a little heat. The homemade tortillas were amazing. I haven't had tortillas so good I could have ate them by themselves. This is a gem of Mexican cuisine, if I could I'd love to spend a week with the cook and glean everything from them. This in my opinion is a must try restaurant. read more

It is a dive with an attached convenience store, but the food is truly amazing! Every bite was flavorful. I can't wait to go back. The birria tacos may be the best I have ever had and I eat them all the time. I would have liked the tortillas to be more crunchy but the flavor the shredded beef made up for that! The consommé was delicious. I prefer a thicker, non-strained consommé and this delivered. It actually had chunks of beef in it. The wife had street tacos and one pork tamale. No complaints! This is truly a hole in a wall place. Limited space and limited parking but worth the visit. Service was quick and ordering was easy. I also love when nobody speaks English because that's just beautiful in my opinion. The food is tasty I had the Al pastor tacos and barbacoa. My sisters picked up some tacos to go while we were moving to Denton. They loved the quesabirria and the Al pastor was pretty good!

After searching for the best taqueria in the Denton area, thus far this one is the best one. I ordered 4 tacos. Apparently here it's weird that they have small or large tacos (large is flour tortilla or corn tortilla and small is just corn). He described the small ones as normal taqueria size and larger ones are like soft taco size, and since price was only like 75 cent different per one, I got 4 of the large ones. The meat? Very flavorful and each one noticeably tasted differently (surprising number of places, you can't tell which meat is which). They actually used 2 tortillas per taco to make it less likely to fall apart (few places seem to do this anymore), and OMG those tacos were stuffed with meat, and had cilantro and onions on them. The Hot sauce, though would be nice to have spicier ones, were actually pretty good as tasted homemade. The green (avocado perhaps?) Was very creamy and the red was liquidly but both had a decent flavor. So, so far out of the 4-5 I've tried in Denton, finally found one I'd gladly return to and $13 for 4 large tacos packed with meat and flavor, in 2023 is a really good price read more

This is hands down my favorite comfort spot when I don't want to cook. I will say lemon / onion/ cilantro are inconsistent. Some days I order and get too much and others not enough by a lot. When I'm sick I would pay an arm and a leg more for their menudo. The tacos are wonderful. The seating is just ok but the parking is my nightmare- especially for Denton/ where too many people don't care if they hit your car. I always come up the side road and park there and walk to Guanajuatos. The staff is always on point and very efficient though- they will not keep you waiting, but this place will absolutely have you coming back for more. read more

Hard opinion that these are the best tacos in Denton, TX. Love the tacos, from nopales to fajita, corn or flour. Definitely try the signature guanajuatense tacos or the torta - amazing, and i ordered it for years. Not a bad lunch deal on some of the apps for lunch, and I even get wings from them. The chips & salsa appetizer you DO have to pay for (sad), but it is worth it - warm salsa de molcajete. Very nice staff, always. The seating inside is hard and the parking outside is even harder, but worth a trip, ESPECIALLY for pickup. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Denton! The staff is always friendly, the food comes out fairly quickly and it's a good place to eat at no matter if it's inside or to go. It is connected to a convenience store so the inside is a bit odd. But I have tried several dishes such as the chicken quesadilla plate, asada taco plate and I had a burrito with beans, rice, French fries, asada, and lettuce. They are all so good! It can however be a little bit pricey considering the type of food it is but I think it's worth the extra penny. read more

I got the chicken quesadilla with beans and rice. It was soo good! The chicken was juicy and the tortilla was fried perfectly- crispy on the outside with a gooey, cheesy inside. The green and sour cream salsas and the veggie garnish (shredded lettuce and a slice of tomato, cucumber, avocado and orange) paired perfectly with the quesadilla and beans and rice. This is the first time I have seen or had cucumber or orange slices with a Mexican dish and tbh it was simply amazing- the flavor combo was incredible! I ordered my food to-go but had to open it and taste test as soon as I was in my car. I ended up scarfing the whole meal down at once, it was just that good! The portion size is really good for the price too. My meal was $12.98 and I started to feel full a little over halfway through eating it all. The tacos here are immaculate!! Everything appears to be authentic Mexican food with lots of Spanish conversations going in the stores. I finish my tacos in 2 minutes because of how good it is. Ordered from here via DoorDash. The food arrived warm not hot. That's due to the DoorDash driver making an extra stop so not the restaurant's fault. We ordered enchiladas, a shrimp taco, and a gordita. The food was really good. Very authentic and everything tasted really fresh. The shrimp taco tasted like what my wife makes at home and that's a compliment. The only bad thing is they forgot a Gordita and they charged me for it. That is very unfortunate. That's why I took off a star. I don't know what it it's like to dine inside as of yet but once I do I will update my review. But I recommend giving them a try. read more

I had seen a lot of good reviews and I thought I would like it more than I did. It was a bit busy already around noon on a Sunday. It seemed like most were carry-out orders though. I had to wait a good 5 - 10 mins before anyone would even address me and took my order. I ordered and I assumed they would either hand me the drink or come out with it with me when the food came out. Nope! After a long wait the food finally came out. I asked the server if She could get me water since they didn't give me that when I ordered. She didn't confirm or deny that she would just didn't say anything. The rice and beans were bland, the beans were watery. I can make better beans myself and I even like the Mexican rice from Kroger cooked as directed better. The tacos were pretty small which is fine. All of the meats were crunchy maybe that's the way they cook here but to me it seemed to be overcooked. The chicken taco didn't have much flavor but wasn't too bad after adding sauce. The al pastor and carnitas were good but as mentioned too crunchy for my taste buds. The server was never to be seen again nor my water. I can't remember last time I felt this unwelcome at a restaurant and I have fairly low expectations except to get the food and drink that I paid for.
