Haven't been here in a while but food was good, i ordered the Carne Tampiqueña, I know the tortillas aren't homemade but most restaurants now a days aren't. Either way it was good cause it was mostly empty when I went lol.

I feel like I know a thing or two about hole in the wall types of places. I like them, I like to find them, I then become the duchess of them. I like a good deal and hidden gems almost as much as I like sushi. This place is making it difficult for me though. After finally eating here though, I can't say that I had the same experience as other reviewers. We actually tried to come here a couple of months back and there wasn't an employee in sight. We stood around near a counter trying to figure out if it was a seat yourself place or an order at the counter place or what. After four minutes, no one emerged, despite the front door ringing the bell and we were getting unfriendly stares from the patrons... weird. Now, this place is on my route home and I didn't notice them for years because the sign was really run down and it looked abandoned. Then the sign got spruced up and I wanted to try them out, as I am a fan of Mexican. However, I noticed after this event that they were closed for nearly two weeks. Since then I've noticed they will be periodically closed in the middle of the day when I am passing by. They have strange hours, but Wednesdays are the only days they close early and they do not seem to stick to their operating hours. I finally made it in today and the gentleman at the counter wasn't really interested in my business and was pretty cold and unhelpful. He told me that I order at the counter and then proceeded to stare at me wordlessly. That was unnerving so I took the menu to a table to determine what I wanted. Five minutes later, I was still looking through their varied menu when the only friendly person in the building stopped by. I placed my to go order with her and paid at the counter. About 10 minutes later I had my food and was home in about five minutes. When I opened up the order, Carne Tampequena $10.19, I didn't even say anything before my husband piped in that it looked like slop. Now this man is someone I refer to as a garbage disposal who will eat anything, he is not picky at all about food... but he had a point. My steak was thrown into my beans and the enchiladas didn't look very good. He then mentioned it smelled bad and looked like a frozen dinner. Now that sounded harsh for anyone, I was pretty surprised, but I couldn't really disagree. I ate two bites of each item and it just tasted awful. It all had the texture, taste and smell of something that had been reheated, even the rice wasn't good and the beans were watery. The meat was tough and had a terrible taste. The beef enchilada had a similar texture, but was completely bland. It all ended up in the trash, money wasted. When it comes to bad food, I usually try to chalk it up to a bad day, but reheated food is not a good sign. The inability to stick to their operating hours and the lack of customer service by everyone, except the one woman who was nice today, is not acceptable. I can't give this place a higher rating, too many things were disappointing. There are many places in town that have really good to outstanding food. You can take your pick of Mexican, Tex-Mex or taquerias- there are so many that are tasty and affordable. I am disappointed in this experience and suggest they step up their game to keep up with the competition.

Bean and cheese and bacon three tacos are in there it is a container for a burger

Horrible service menu said that we had to order minimum 3 tacos but didn't say they needed to be the same , then they charge 1.75 a taco and they are all the size of mini tacos, and the tortillas are not homemade ... bill miller bean and cheese are 99 cents this is really ridiculous the mini tacos were 1.99 a piece and they were made sloppy do not come here ... seriously we are from San Antonio and these tacos are ridiculously priced and super small . Don't know how this business is still open

La Mexicana has been around since 1998, so it's safe to say they know how to make some good Mexican food. I've seen many of my Yelp friends make stops here quite frequently. It made me finally make my way over there. I was glad I did. They have everything. Tacos, burritos, tortas, tostadas, enchiladas, menudo, pozole, nachos and too much more to name on here. I was in for something small and ended up with a milanesa torta with jalapenos. Fresh bread, lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions, jalapeno, mayo and a pounded thin piece of breaded beef. Creamy and very filling. The homemade salsa also hit the spot. Not too hot but it had a kick to it. Add a tall horchata to it and damn, I was a happy, happy guy. As other reviews have said, the place isn't much to look at, and even inside that holds true. A half painted mural lines the back wall that never got finished and all sorts of random knick knacks and pictures all over. But you come for some good food, good, inexpensive food. Do stop by. Support Denton businesses.

Let me tell y'all how good their meat is, if you like pineapple on your pizza then you'll definitely love pineapple in your tacos! They cut the pineapples in perfect amount, where the pineapple doesn't over power the meat but aids it, to make a magical taste. I definitely recommend this place to UNT and TWU students, if they want some Authentic Mexican food in Denton. Their michiladas are good as well

Excellent service and the beef fajitas are super savory! By the time we sat down and ordered, we had our food within 10 minutes or so. If you are craving sone local Tex-mex, this is the place to be!

Everything we ordered was delicious. The guacamole tasted super fresh, the queso was flavorful and came in a generous portion, and the salsa had just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. The only small hiccup was the chips situation--they give you big portions of guac, queso, and salsa, but the chips come in a tiny bowl. (Literally 10 chips) very sad for 6 people to fight over so little of chips. Not a huge deal, just a bit surprising. We also tried the margaritas--they had great flavor, though they tasted absent of tequila. Overall, we really enjoyed it and would definitely go back...maybe next time we bring our own chips! :)

Let me set the scene: I walked in expecting a casual meal and maybe a decent taco. What I got instead was a borderline spiritual awakening wrapped in foil and served with rice and beans. First of all -- the giant piña colada. When they say giant, they are not messing around. This thing arrived like it had its own gravitational pull. I'm pretty sure I saw a small family of tourists orbiting it. One sip and I was transported to a beach that doesn't even exist on any map -- coconutty, icy perfection with just enough kick to make me briefly consider texting my boss that I've moved to an island and won't be returning. Then came the beans. Listen carefully: I don't throw this word around lightly -- perfect. These beans were so good I genuinely paused mid-bite and just stared into the middle distance reevaluating my entire life. Creamy, rich, seasoned like someone's abuela whispered ancient secrets into the pot. I would trust these beans with my taxes, my passwords, and honestly my emotional well-being. And the corn tortillas... dear lord, the corn tortillas. I have had tortillas in many places, including at my own abuela's table -- and saying this feels like confessing a sin -- but these might be the best I've ever had besides abuela's. Warm, soft, slightly charred in all the right places, like they were handmade by someone who has been perfecting this craft since before I was born and possibly before electricity was invented. If I could build a house out of these tortillas, I would. I would live there. Happily. And then--just when I thought things couldn't escalate further--the huevos rancheros arrived. Eggs cooked to that perfect sweet spot where the yolk still has a little rebellion left in it, laid over a bed of everything that matters, all tied together with a sauce that refuses to be anything less than unforgettable. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you question why you ever settle for anything less in life. Comforting, bold, and somehow both rustic and wildly impressive at the same time. Everything else on the plate? Outstanding. Rice that actually deserves to be eaten and not just politely ignored. Salsa that sneaks up on you like, "oh this is nice--OH okay there it is." Service? Friendly, fast, and somehow emotionally supportive. Atmosphere? The kind of place where you immediately feel like a regular even if it's your first time. Final verdict: If you are anywhere within a 50-mile radius of Denton and you are not eating at La Fondita Mexican Restaurant, you are making a series of deeply questionable life choices. I came in hungry. I left changed.

We started things off right with chips, jalapeño ranch dip, and queso, which is honestly the only proper way to begin a Chuy's visit. The queso was warm, creamy, and exactly what my soul needed, and the chips with that jalapeño ranch were the cherry on top. Speaking of cherries, we also got the Tito's cherry limeade, and it was the spring we didn't know we needed to bounce. Crisp, cold, a little dangerous in the cutest way, and honestly adorable -- the perfect little kick to start the meal. Our waiter was top notch: kind, attentive, and somehow always there right when we needed something without ever hovering. That kind of service makes the whole experience feel easy and enjoyable. For food, we ordered the Baja shrimp tacos, and when I say the shrimp is BIG, I mean it (and no, we're definitely not out here flattering any men ). The shrimp was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and absolutely the star of the plate. They came with rice and beans, and even though I forgot to ask for the cilantro lime rice , I was still super happy with everything. We also got the steak fajita Tex-Mex burrito bowl, and every single bite just kept getting better. The steak was tender, packed with flavor, and once it all got mixed together with the salsa and scooped up on the crispy tostada, it was perfection. This meal was such a good reminder of why Chuy's became a favorite for me in the first place -- fun atmosphere, great food, amazing service, and one of those dinners that just hits from the first chip to the last bite.
